Wassup All,
This thread is dedicated to problem resolution. So if you have a prob let us know. And for those who know how to fix the problem post your solution here and let everyone be happy!
BTW, here is a set of solutions for:
1) those whose WM5 lockups during the night (haven't had this for a week or so after applying the following):
a. Make sure your Today Items are compatible with WM5 (disable suspicious items by unchecking Settings->Today->Item name box);
b. Disable HKCU\Control Panel\Phone\Sleep by putting 0 value;
2) those whose GPRS connection drops when putting/receiving a call:
a. Make sure your HKLM\ConnMgr\Planner\Settings\SuspendResume contain ~GPRS! value
b. Power off your device after 5sec of GPRS connection establishment
c. Try to place/recv a call
3) those whose Bluetooth over ActiveSync have stopped working unexpectedly:
a. Make sure your desktop PC have at least one network adapter enabled (if you have no adapters you may install MS Loopback software adapter from network adapters section of hardware installation wizard)
b. On your PPC, check ActiveSync->Connections->Syncrhonize all PCs using this connection box
4) those who have dual sim card and changing of cards using flight mode off/on takes so much time:
a. Whenever you need to change sim card start Wireless Modem application, choose Irda from the drop list and tap Start. Then tap Stop and close Wireless Modem. Now you can turn off flight mode in much faster way.
5) Caller ID filter to be used during the night or busy sessions:
a. Assign a ringtone to VIP contact using Contacts->Ringtone
b. Find any silent wave/wma/mp3 file and place it to \windows or \windows\rings folder
c. When you need to receive only VIP calls choose this silent audio file from your Phone->Options->Ringtone drop list
6) To disable automatic repeat of reminder:
Set "0" to HKCU\ControlPanel\Notifications\Reminders\AutoSnooze\AutoSnoozeMins value
7) To enable MMS reception:
Try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=142617
Re: WM5: Problem Resolution Center
Is there anybody who progressed with ArcSoft MMS/Inbox integration?
This thread is an excellent idea. Here are a few questions/issues I am facing with WM5.
- The Alram Bug is back My alarms don't ring. Sometimes they ring once and instead of repeating, like they are supposed to, they just go back to sleep. They will only continue when i turn on the phone (whever that may be).
- ActiveSync is always running on the PPC. If I kill it manually, it comes back after a while.
- Can I hide the BT icon in the system try? Can I control the display (hide/unhide) the system tray?
- Can i customize the soft buttons (Phone, Contacts) at the bottom? i.e. assign other programs to those buttons and change the label?
- Camera and record hardware buttons do't work. This has been widely reported and I believe its under investigation.

In your particular case let's try the following: while your system is powered (power off value does not turn off your device) a set of automatic snoozes will be performed and each snooze will prolong time of power-off.
So, change HKCU\ControlPanel\Notifications\Reminders\AutoSnooze\AutoSnoozeMins to a value less than the value of system Power Off.
Example of alarm that repeats every 2 mins on a system that suppose to power-off after 3 mins of idleness:
a. Set up value of Power off (Settings->System->Power->Advanced->Turn off device if not used for) to 3 mins
b. Set the registry value to 2 mins
- Can I hide the BT icon in the system try? Can I control the display (hide/unhide) the system tray?

You can control appearance of the icon by moving \Windows\Startup\BTIcon.lnk file to and from \Windows\Startup\ folder. Example, I want tray icon so I leave the file in \Windows\Startup\ folder. Now I don't want tray icon so I move \Windows\Startup\BTIcon.lnk file to a different place and soft-reset my device to get the changes take effect. Moving operations can be performed using Windows Explorer (Cut function)
- Can i customize the soft buttons (Phone, Contacts) at the bottom? i.e. assign other programs to those buttons and change the label?

Place path and name for your applications at the value 1 of HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\:MSCProg and HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\:MSContacts registry branches.
Here is an example of starting calculator when pressing Contacts button:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\:MSContacts\1 = calc.exe OR \windows\calc.exe
WARNING! Changing of CProg branch will lead to remap of your Green Phone Button too.
ActiveSync is always running on the PPC. If I kill it manually, it comes back after a while.

I also noticed that and changed many reg values so don't remembler what helped. First try to uncheck this checkbox "ActiveSync->Connections->Syncrhonize all PCs using this connection" when not using activesync and soft-reset your device to see if it helps. Let me know on your progress pls.

PocketIE starting with blank page
Starting PocketIE with a blank page is a bit faster than loading a default page with graphics.
1) Navigate your PocketIE to "about:blank" (type and open in the address bar)
2) Open Tools->Options and set current page as your home page
Now, each time you start your PocketIE a blank page will be fastly loaded

If you haven't updated your OS with service pack you can still install ActiveSync4 and use it for Bluetooth or IrDA synchronizations.
1) Login with Administrative privelege
2) Open your Windows Explorer and open properties of "setup.exe" file. Choose Compatibility tab, check "Run this program in compatibility mode for" box and select Windows 2000 option

TomTom51/WM2005/BlueTooth problems
Can someone help me?
About every minute TTN5.1 is loosing the Bluetooth GPS
(EMTAC Crux II/BTGPS) but soon after finds it again.
I'm using de TomTom5patch but can not use com5.
Also installed Bluetoothtools, using com4 for the BTGPS.
Com 5 is in use according to Bluetoothtools
(http://www.bluetooth.jazztel.es/).
Within TTN5.1 i can select the BTGPS correctly on com4.
It identifies itself as the BTGPS.
I'm not using "New Outgoing Port" or "New Incomming Port"
because i'm not sure if this is necessary.
If it's necessary, what port must I use?
Can the settings done by the TomTom5patch be reversed and how?
Which settings are affected by this patch?
How do i disable Infrared on the Himalaya?
How do i disable BT within TomTom?
My main issues seem to be
MMS- Cant get to work at all
GPRS- Cant get internet over GPRS
Camera and Notes button- Can live without these
i have the same problem with tomtom my bluetooth keeps droping out.
i'm using tomtom5.0 and the tomtom com5 patch
with the deflut microsoft bluetooth
i set my outgoing port to com5 and tomtom5.0 can find it but like i said it drops out alot
and one more side note i put my com5patch file in my tartup folder but after i soft-reset and try to start tomtom. tomtom can't find com5 so i have stop tomtom and manuly go start the com5patch

Automatic disconnect is known feature of Pocket Bluetooth Tools it automatically disconnects after 1 minute of BT inactivity. As I remember you can stop this feature by taping on clock icon at your today so your clock icon should not have white color but should be grey. Warning! Sorry don't have TT & BT GPS. Haven't you tried Settings->GPS Wizard for setting up your GPS?
0) Pair your GPS using serial profile
1) Set COM9 to Settings->GPS->Programs tab->"GPS program port:"
2) Set COM0, if not using ActiveSync over BT, or COM1, if using AS over BT, to Settings->GPS->Hardware tab->"GPS hardware port:"
3) Make sure your Settings->GPS->Access tab->"Manage GPS automatically" is checked
4) Open your TT and select COM9 in your device configuration window
OR
0) Pair your GPS using serial profile
1) Select your device through Settings->Connection->Bluetooth->Com Ports->New Outgoing Port->Your GPS Device
2) Tap Next
3) Select any port under "Port:", e.g. COM8
4) Open your TT->GPS Device Configuration->Select Com8
Try to check if your GPS works... if not, continue with the following:
4.1) Open Settings->GPS Wizard, Assign hardware com port to COM8 (Hardware tab) and Assign program com port to COM9 (Programs tab), check the "Manage GPS automatically" in Access tab
4.2) Select COM9 in your TT.
Good Luck! ;-)

Registry Settings -> Software Settings
Dear All,
Please pay attention that after making changes, installing new software or doing your usual software settings it is advisable to power off your device before soft-resetting.
Example, I recently setup my Inbox mail accounts and soft resetted my device in a usual way. After a soft reset I found out that none of my accounts was actually kept. So, I did setup again, powered off my device and soft-resetted it. After soft-reset all mail accounts were saved and were workable
Solution for TomTom51/WM2005/BlueTooth problems
Hi all,
I think I've found a solution.
TTN5 works for me perfect now, but when I activate the
compass so it will display itself on the navigation screen,
then the GPS is lost (and found again) about every minute.
When I deactivate the compass, there is no problem at all!
So, try this and let me know if this solves your problem.

Hi I have recently purchased tomtom navigator 5 software and great britain maps on a memory card from tomtom plus tomtom wireless gps mkii unit. I have tried to install on both my xdaII and xdaIIs devices. everything goes as instructions until i get to the screen where it asks me to configure gps device. i select picture of gps mk11 but the following screen with the spinning yellow and black circle continues to say no gps device. i have tried leaving this running for sometime on both devices to no avail. blue tooth recognises the gps unit and friends with PDAs installed with tomtom can connect to my unit. Any ideas?
TT5 and wired GPS
Turn off "receive incoming beams" in the "beam" sectiom of settings.
This will release Com 1 which TT5 expects to be assigned to the Wired GPS.
Thanks for the advice have tried this on both devices to no avail. the GPS Status screen still says No GPS device even if i leave it running for some time.??
Daft question I know, but you have paired the GPS device with your XDA before you try and get it to work with TomTom?
If you have and it does not work on the default GPS MKII then try other bluetooth GPS and select the BT com port and see if that does the trick.
It should work just fine, no need to pair first.
Have you tried a soft reset when it sticks and starting Navigator from the start menu?
Failing that you can tell Navigator that it is "Other bluetooth device" http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=26883&highlight=tomtom
You have downloaded the update to Navigator 5.1 from the TomTom site?
Try choosing "other bluetooth gps", failing that choose wired gps and tell it the com port and speed settings for the bluetooth.
Tried all the things suggested thank you all but still wont work!
ok,
1. switch on Bluetooth on the XDA.
2. pair the 2 devices, XDA & TomTom Bluetooth receiver.
3. Start TomTom Navigator and choose the option as mentioned above "other bluetooth gps", choose one of the bottom 2 Com Ports for the conection.
if one doesnt work then try the other....you should get the TomTom connected using this method.
if unsuccesful, please explain how far you got and what failed at that point then we can better assist on what's causing the problem.
ok using com 6 when i look at blue tooth manager active connections out going is connected nothing on incoming connections?
thanks again for all your help.
does this mean you got TomTom connected and working?
do the 3 steps and explain where it goes wrong.
well it seems i have connection one way at least but on the configure/done screen with the compass etc it still says no gps device and nothing happens in the top right hand corner ie numbers moving etc or any movement in the vertical bars at bottom of screen
well it seems i have connection one way at least but on the configure/done screen with the compass etc it still says no gps device and nothing happens in the top right hand corner ie numbers moving etc or any movement in the vertical bars at bottom of screen
try changing the com port you selected in step 3 and each time your doing so, leave it for 30 seconds to see if it connects....you should also try using the Wired connection, i beleive it's a problem with your TomTom software install, have you upgraded it to version 5.10?
before upgrading, try to configure within TomTom on your XDA using the Wired connection as suggested above then selecting the com port...i reckon this should work....otherwise something small is being overlooked or you got serious issues...it's probably the 1st one though.
I have started from scratch again and when i go into bluetooth connection wizard the gps wireless mark 2 icon comes up with a question mark on it. then it says service not available on this device?
ok, we're gonna get this sorted Clair
i'll try walking through the steps to making a successful connection, you may have covered some of these already and no doubt been through most of it before but it's worth trying from the top again....as when it works it's pretty good.
here goes - Bluetooth Pairing:
when your in the Bluetooth Manager on the XDA, go to Tools, Paired Devices, click Add.
it will say 'Device' and to the right of it there will be an icon of a sheet of paper with a magnifying glass on it, click this icon and it will search(make sure your GPS unit is on)....when it finds the TomTom or GPS Wireless, select it and enter the passkey, should be 0000(4x zero).
now the GPS unit will be paired with the XDA.
press 'OK' on that screen and go to 'My Shortcuts' and select 'New', you'll be in Bluetooth Connection Wizard, scroll down to the bottom, select 'Explore a Bluetooth device', select the TomTom or GPS Wireless, select the text that says 'GPS output' and click 'Next'....you'll now have the shortcut created which you can double click to connect....do this before starting the TomTom application.
when i click on magnifying glass icon the screen says bluetooth browser select a bluetooth device and below tom tom wireless gps mkii icon with a question mark in blue over the top of it and a red tick in a black box to the left and cancel at bottom right of screen no activity
click on the 'tom tom wireless gps mkii icon' to select it.
ok done that blue tooth manager says status connected signal strength just right sent o bytes received increasing press ok go to change preferences show gps status. screen still locked on configure/done with compass etc yellow and blue circle spinning whatever way i try configure
the compass is yellow and blue spinning?
this is in TomTom, at the configure page i assume, thats sounds like a good sign if the yellow and blue circle are spinning i think....it's probably not picking up satellite's...you'll need to position the GPS adapter near a window so it can see the satellite's.
here's what you do, exit from TomTom completely, make sure the program is not still running.
establish the Bluetooth connection again, then start TomTom once it's established and go to the same 'Change Preferences', 'Show GPS status' screen and choose 'Other Bluetooth GPS', 'Bluetooth Serial Port COM6'....when you see the blue and yellow circle spinning it means it's searching for satellite's if i'm not mistaken....right under the text 'GPS Status' int eh top left corner it should say 'Other Bluetooth GPS'.....this means it's connected......now you just have to position it so it can see some satellites as if your in a house or flat indoors it may not be picking them up
p.s. i've been sitting here reconfiguring my unkles device at the same time so i'm hot on how this thing works.
yes i think this is where it all gets stuck. even though yellow and blue is spinning whether i configure using tomtom wireless gps picture or other bluetooth gps picture and select com 6 neither one shows under gps status both say no gps device. gps device itself is flashing green light which means it is locked on and i have tried all this in various locations around country always outside
... can someone give me the settings to fix this problem, and also an english lanuage voice, thanks
Other NMEA GPS recever Baud Speed to 9600 on Com 4 should work fine. You can download a voice from www.tomtom.com go to the Plus section of the site and select voices, the built in ones are available for download, what happened to your original? - Mike
thanks for the help, dont know what happened but they all came up not installedhad a look at the extended rom and tried to run the cab but it wouldnt run, but al should be fine now thanks
the gps still wont work, what settings do you have in the gps applet in settings? i cant select com 4 in tom tom what comes up is com9 gps com0 com2 and serial, no matter what it is set to in the gps settings
I think you need tom tom 6.02 to recognize the internal gps.
I'm using tomtom 6.010 and it works perfectly on Xda Orbit.
Settings in Orbit
Program GPS: Com 4
Hardware GPS: None, baud rate 9600
Tick Manage GPS Automatically
Settings in tomtom
Select "Other NMEA GPS Receiver" 9600 on Com 4.
Have you been to the Tomtom options>preferences>GPS>configure yet? maybe that's your problem ??
Mine is set to com 4 by default in the prefs and In built GPS in the TomTom settings. Hope it helps.
EDIT:
Also bear in mind that the program will take about 30 secs to recognize the built in GPS and then it will take around 45 secs to get a signal outside so give it time too

With 6.02 it takes about 10 seconds for a cold start to get a lock and 3 seconds for a hot start. It uses the QuickGPS files! Mine has usually got a fix by the time I've loaded TomTom and opened the satelite info page!

Software tab : port : com4
hardware tab : port not set, speed 4800 bauds
Acces tab : select the item
These are the settings with were set when I bouth the device.

QuickGPS files ?????
Quick GPS is an application on the HTC Artemis and MDA-C-III (Not too sure about the Orbit as I haven't had a chance to mess around with one yet).
It uses the internet or GPRS connection to download a tiny database every 72 hours to speed up the GPS signal acquisition. It is in program files on the device if you have one - Mike
Got It working in the end Couple of Restarts got it going. and to clarify the orbit does Have the Quick GPS aplication, thank you all for your Help

First, make sure your Quick GPS is up to date ( although I'm not really sure just how effective quick gps is, I'm sure I've had a signal without updating in about the same amount of time)
On your MDA, go to Settings/Sytem/GPS.
Click on GPS and in Programs tab, set GPS program port to 'COM4'
Click Hardware tab, set GPS hardware port to '(None)', and set Baud rate to
'4800'.
Click Access tab, tick box for 'Manage GPS automatically (recommended)'
Load Tomtom and go into the GPS Receiver configure screen. Select Other NMEA GPS receiver. Next screen, slide GPS baud rate to 4800 if it isn't already at that. Click done. Next screen, highlight COM4 if it isn't already highlighted, then click on COM4 and it'll bring you to the next screen which shows your current GPS Status.
Make sure you are outside to get a signal. It can take anything from 2 minutes or longer. Mine rarely gets a signal before 2 minutes and sometimes much longer. Some people are very lucky and manage to get a signal within a few seconds, though I've no idea how they manage that.
Also, I've just replaced Navigator 6 with Navigator 7 which is essentially the same but with some different colours, splash screen and one or two additions in the change preferences menus. However, it has a new feature in the GPS Receiver screen which might be useful. It now has Built-in GPS receiver and there seems to be nothing to set after clicking on that. I'm going to go test it now, see if it's any faster or works at all.
I DID IT YAYEE!!
For HTC TOUCH HD TOMTOM6 i chose 9600 and com2 and its now working.
In mobiles setting i turned all com to none..
cheers!!

Hi,
I got Quick GPS updated through Activesync

In External GPS, I did what you suggested.
Same with TT too

What more can I try?
Do I need an external antenna?

I did have the GPS working with GPSDash, but had to hard reboot and can not.
I have tried different com ports for both the GPS and the new MS GPS mananger thing, but GPSDash cannt find it.
Anyone else running this new ROM able to help please?
Thanks,

Hi there
try the following
hope this help
Installing TomTom Navigator 5.1
15. Using File Explorer, navigate to the .CAB file you copied to your SD card and install R-Edit
on your Pocket PC. R-Edit can be acquired from http://www.pocketfleet.homeunix.com/REGEDIT.htm
but you can also Google for any other Windows Mobile 5 Registry Editor.
16. Run R-Edit from the Programs Menu.
17. Within R-Edit, navigate to the registry key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel\GPS Settings"
18. Within the registry key, delete the DWORD entry marked "Hide"
19. Add a DWORD entry called "Group" and give it a Value of "2"
20. Soft reset your Pocket PC.
21. On your Pocket PC, go to Settings > Connections to ensure that the GPS icon is there.
If it is not then I can only apologise but it may not be possible to get TomTom working with
your GPS device. It is necessary for TomTom to see a specific GPS serial port that can
(as far as I can tell) only be set by this GPS connection program. After you have paired
with your Bluetooth GPS device you could try setting an Outgoing port to COM7: as that is
a default COM port that TomTom Navigator can connect to. Do step 22 then skip to step 26.
22. Turn on your Bluetooth GPS and stick it in a location that it's likely to get a signal.
On your Pocket PC, enable Bluetooth and search for new devices. Establish a bond (pair) with
your GPS device and ensure you check the "Serial Port" option.
23. Go to Settings > Connections > Bluetooth. Create a new Incoming COM Port. I chose COM8 for this.
24. Other guides on the Internet tell you to also create an Outgoing port and setting it
as COM7 but doing this would not work on the PPC that I was using so I had to create the
Outgoing COM port on COM0. Either way you need an Outgoing COM port to be set.
If you can set it as COM7: then you should do so, if not, use COM0:
25. Go to Settings > Connections > GPS. Set the GPS communication port to the same
Outgoing COM port that you set above. For the PPC I was using,
I had to set it as COM0: above so will set it here as COM0: also.
The "Manage GPS Automatically" checkbox should already be checked but if it isn't, check it and OK out.
26. Start up TomTom Navigator using the Programs menu and run through the setup procedure as
normal but select "Other Bluetooth GPS" when asked to select a GPS device.
27. TomTom will ask you to now pair your GPS device with your Pocket PC.
We've already done that so click Continue.
28. You will be given a list of ports that your GPS device is likely to be on.
Remember that this is the Outgoing port that we created earlier in steps 24 and 25.
Basically the COM port you set here must be the same as the one you set in step 24 and 25.
29. Select the relevant COM port and then click Next. You will likely be taken straight
in to the map view and with any luck your Pocket PC and GPS device will start communicating and your Pocket PC will show your position on the map.
30. If you made a mistake in setting the COM port that your GPS device lives on,
simply tap anywhere on the screen. Tap Preferences, tap Next three times until you
see an icon that looks like a satellite labelled GPS status. Tap that icon and then tap configure to change the COM port.

GPS Working
Hi mate, download a program called crux_view. I have the program and it's only an .exe file so i'm not sure how to upload it, when i tried no attachment.
You just put the exe file on your ppc and run it. It will then test your connections etc.

I'll try again here you go

I don't know how to use this programme. Need I change the setting of the programme?
When you start it, accept it then when the screen comes up change the comm port (should show default comm1) and change it to comm port 4 (comm4) which is the built in gps port. Then click open in the top right and wait for it to connect to your gps. If your gps is working it should show how many satillites it has seen, then it should show you how many it has connected (better to be outside when you do this).
If nothing shows up at all try different comm ports. if something does show up then your GPS is working and you need to reconfigure which port it is using to your default so it always uses that port.
It is only a trial version not the full version but it's enough to test if your GPS is working.
Let me know how you get on. If you need simpler instructions let me know and i'll talk you through it.
Or install Google maps, press 'menu' and click 'use gps'.

First sign that you DO Have GPS is when the Multi LED (Left One) starts flashing orange, NOT the right one, the left This indicates, that the GPS Device is initialized. If this LED is flashing, your device is searching for satellites. It could be that if you install one of these applications there won't happen anything, due to a missing GPS Fix, which takes a while, so i would recommend you look for the LEDs...
Make sure you tell your gps software to use COM 4 at 57600 baud rate with the NMEA protocol.
