GPS on My Xda

Right i'm new here and in fact i have to admit i'm new to this toys ... so i will try to be as detail as possible ... of all the other sub forums i think posting here is the right place (to mods sorry if i posted on the wrong sections)
Yesterday i was a proud owner of the O2 XDA executive...
Managed to twist around the PDA without problem but tried to install a GPS navigation system on it and got stuck in no where.
Got Tomtom 6 installed and running but i failed to connect the GPS receiver between my PDA and the device. My GPS receiver is a Cellink Bluetooth Global Positioning System which i did managed to connect it to my PDA but not recognised with the sign "?" next to the name of the device in bluetooth options and says that i need to install GPS in my PDA -_-"
Can anyone enlighten me as i'm really in need to use the navigation system and provide me "step by step" on how to install it.Thanks in advance
p/s : i really appreciate for any advice but please try no to use so much jargons as i'm a beginner and might not understand ... thanks again

on your phone turn on bt then go into bt settings tick make this device discoverable to other devices then pair your phone with your gps recever then set up com ports make note of numbers these will be 6 or 7 Then start tomtom go into change preferences then in to show gps status then into configure pick other bt gps receiver then pick the com port you set up for gps receiver 6 or 7 it will work now

right i have done exactly what you said
1)bt --> discoverable
2)paired the GPS receiver
3)problem starts here ... tick on serial port and saved then i came into these 2 options which is "new outgoing port" and "new incoming port"
4)tried on either 6 or 7 but says "The com port could not be created.Please check your settings and try again"
5)it works on port 8
6)started tomtom and 1st thing i see is an arrow on a white background and below there's there's a message saying "no gps device!"
7)got into main menu and GPS status and i see is
8)QCT DATA INTERFACE
Serial Cable on COM1:

RIL on COM6:
Infrared Port
Ir on COM3:
COM8:
COM4:
9)from there at the GPS status it says "no valid gps signal!"

** You need to understand registry manipulation before attempting this. - So backing up your device is a mandatory exercise beforehand! **
• Step 1 – Assumes that you have TomTom already installed & working.
• Step 2 – Activate The GPS Control Panel
- If the GPS Control Panel icon IS present in the PDA “Connection Settings”, go to Step 5
- Obtain any registry editor eg. PHM is free and works well - Download and install the ARM CAB file to suit your device - (http://www.phm.lu/Products/PocketPC/RegEdit/) The Win Mobile 2003 edition CAB worked fine with Win Mobile 5 on my iMate JasJar
• Step 3 – Back up the Registry
- Using the registry editor, back up the entire device registry to a storage card
• Step 4 – Edit the Registry
- Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MASCHINE\ControlPanel\GPS Settings - Delete the DWORD marked "hide" - Add a new DWORD called "Group" and give it the value of "2" (dec) - Exit PHM by selecting Tools -> Exit - Soft reset the device & the GPS panel will now show up in your connection settings. ***Important Note!!! *** --> make sure you exit the registry editor properly by Tools -> Exit, this saves the setting.
• Step 5 – Setup the GPS
- Establish a bond (pair) with your GPS and select the checkbox for serial access.
- In the BT Manager, create a new OUTGOING port – COM8
- Go to the GPS control panel, set the GPS program port to COM0 and make sure that the hardware one, is set to None. (Select (tick) Manage GPS Automatically)
- Start TomTom, and follow the configuration wizard, select a Bluetooth GPS, and you will be presented a selection of COM ports to use: Select COM0 (Should be 1st on the list) and close TomTom
- Return to the GPS Control Panel again, now set GPS Program Port to COM8 (This is the same port that we previously set to COM0). This will free up the COM port for use by TomTom
- In BT Manager create a new OUTGOING COM port as COM0
- Back again to GPS control panel and select NONE for both hardware and program ports. (This prevents the GPS middleware application from interfering with TomTom)
- Finally, run TomTom and it should connect automatically. You may be prompted for a passkey, please check your GPS Bluetooth Device User Guide to find the default key. Wait for a couple of seconds and check the GPS settings and you should see it has connected. Don't change the GPS settings page!
I was able to set up my JasJar running Windows Mobile 5 to connect to an iPAQ BT-308 Bluetooth GPS (AKA GlobalSat BT-308) using this procedure and it worked well.

& I have simply adapted it to use with my Universal. Kudos to Andy007.

To the OP: Try steps 5 onwards if the first part is daunting, if not you might need to enlist the help of someone with some registry manipulation skills.

Probs with GPS and AKU3.5

Hi,
I have a TT GPS module and have just installed a ROM to give me 3.5.
I did have the GPS working with GPSDash, but had to hard reboot and can not.
I have tried different com ports for both the GPS and the new MS GPS mananger thing, but GPSDash cannt find it.
Anyone else running this new ROM able to help please?

Installing TomTom Navigator 5.1
15. Using File Explorer, navigate to the .CAB file you copied to your SD card and install R-Edit
on your Pocket PC. R-Edit can be acquired from http://www.pocketfleet.homeunix.com/REGEDIT.htm
but you can also Google for any other Windows Mobile 5 Registry Editor.
16. Run R-Edit from the Programs Menu.
17. Within R-Edit, navigate to the registry key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel\GPS Settings"
18. Within the registry key, delete the DWORD entry marked "Hide"
19. Add a DWORD entry called "Group" and give it a Value of "2"
20. Soft reset your Pocket PC.
21. On your Pocket PC, go to Settings > Connections to ensure that the GPS icon is there.
If it is not then I can only apologise but it may not be possible to get TomTom working with
your GPS device. It is necessary for TomTom to see a specific GPS serial port that can
(as far as I can tell) only be set by this GPS connection program. After you have paired
with your Bluetooth GPS device you could try setting an Outgoing port to COM7: as that is
a default COM port that TomTom Navigator can connect to. Do step 22 then skip to step 26.
22. Turn on your Bluetooth GPS and stick it in a location that it's likely to get a signal.
On your Pocket PC, enable Bluetooth and search for new devices. Establish a bond (pair) with
your GPS device and ensure you check the "Serial Port" option.
23. Go to Settings > Connections > Bluetooth. Create a new Incoming COM Port. I chose COM8 for this.
24. Other guides on the Internet tell you to also create an Outgoing port and setting it
as COM7 but doing this would not work on the PPC that I was using so I had to create the
Outgoing COM port on COM0. Either way you need an Outgoing COM port to be set.
If you can set it as COM7: then you should do so, if not, use COM0:
25. Go to Settings > Connections > GPS. Set the GPS communication port to the same
Outgoing COM port that you set above. For the PPC I was using,
I had to set it as COM0: above so will set it here as COM0: also.
The "Manage GPS Automatically" checkbox should already be checked but if it isn't, check it and OK out.
26. Start up TomTom Navigator using the Programs menu and run through the setup procedure as
normal but select "Other Bluetooth GPS" when asked to select a GPS device.
27. TomTom will ask you to now pair your GPS device with your Pocket PC.
We've already done that so click Continue.
28. You will be given a list of ports that your GPS device is likely to be on.
Remember that this is the Outgoing port that we created earlier in steps 24 and 25.
Basically the COM port you set here must be the same as the one you set in step 24 and 25.
29. Select the relevant COM port and then click Next. You will likely be taken straight
in to the map view and with any luck your Pocket PC and GPS device will start communicating and your Pocket PC will show your position on the map.
30. If you made a mistake in setting the COM port that your GPS device lives on,
simply tap anywhere on the screen. Tap Preferences, tap Next three times until you
see an icon that looks like a satellite labelled GPS status. Tap that icon and then tap configure to change the COM port.

External Bluetooth modem for Hermes

Hello,
I have recently upgraded my MDA Vario II with Schap's 3.30c in Spanish (nice work, btw). I'm trying to use another 3G phone as an external modem for the Hermes due to cheaper rates here in Spain, but I cannot make the connection.
The other mobile phone is an LG U8210, and both devices pair correctly. I do configure the connection via Bluetooth and I enter as dialing numbre on the Hermes *99#, same as when using the Hermes as a modem with the PC.
It seems to try to connect with the LG, but then drops the connection so I was wondering if the problem is on the dialing number I'm entering.
If anybody is using an external mobile phone as a bluetooth modem for the PDA, could you please post your modem configuration?

P.S: I've searched the forums and it seems some people are using this setup, but none of them say anything about "special" parameters.

I'm not using WM6, but I sometimes connect my Hermes (latest official WM5)
via bluetooth to a Nokia 6260 which then dials a gprs connection.
settings:
modem: bluetooth
number: *99#
on the username/password page, in the advanced settings, I have:
general:
baudrate 115200
uncheck wait for dialtone
extra dial string (most likely, this is your problem)
+cgdcont=1,"IP","internet.proximus.be"
(internet.proximus.be is the accesspoint I need to use)
check cancel if not connected for 120s
port settings:

use server assigned
uncheck slip
check software compression
check ip header compression

Most likely, you don't have the extra dialstring set. I'm not sure what
you should set (I would suggest using the same one as the one I have, but
with the name of your accesspoint). Without this string, I also couldn't
dial.
For test purposes, you can first try to dial a regular phone number: this
doesn't require an extra dial string. That way you can tell if the modem
works correctly.
(FWIW, the same configruation is also usable over an IR connection )

This is fine. I had the same number to dial

I don't have these settings. Nothing about baudrate or extra dial string can be setup on my Hermes. I only have the IP settings stuff.

Tried adding the dial string on the *99# number, but it does not work either. It doesn't even appear to try to dial on the other phone. And if I try to enter a normal number, as it is searching for a modem, it says there is no modem on the entered number...
I guess I'll have to google a bit more as it is more likely to be abnormal behaviour of my LG phone.
Anyway, anyother ideas are welcomed.

Here are all my steps:
First I have a screen where I can choose the name of the connection and
the modem. After choosing "bluetooth" and "next", I get a list of paired
devices that support the DUN profile; here I select my Nokia 6260 which
has been paired beforehand.
Next page is the phone number.
Next page has username, password and domain; plus a button labeled
"Advanced". The soft keys are now labeled back and finish.
I click the button Advanced, which brings up a screen with 4 tabs:
general, port settings, tcp/ip and servers.
Then general tab is where I can find the extra dial-string commands.
There must be a way in WM6 to get to these settings, as they are very
standard modem settings.

I just upgraded my TyTN with the official wm6 upgrade... and also lost that general tab. Like you, I can't get the TyTN to connect via my other mobile...
Anyone know if there is a registry string that can be added and filled in as extra dial string?
(I have mailed HTC support Europe)
(a search on google yields that this is a common issue on many wm6 devices)

I found a workaround for my situation (where I use a Nokia 6260 als bluetooth modem).
The 6260 runs Symbian 60 v2.x, and it has this setting:
Menu > Settings > Connection > GPRS
where you can enter an access point. When I enter internet.proximus.be (the same one as the one I'd put in the extra dial string), the TyTN doesn't need an extra dial string to be able to use this connection. I suspect this setting adds tells the Nokia to alter the dialstring so that it works.
On Meinnesyys (or however it is written) blog, it is mentioned that the similar workaround is possible when the device used as modem is running Windows Mobile:

So the extra dial string is not necessary when the modem runs Symbian or WM... As these features are NOT well documented (I guessed the Symbian workaround by reading the referenced blog), perhaps other phones might have similar settings?

Bluetooth and ActiveSync enemies???

I have been trying all weekend to Sync my 8525 and my HP laptop via Bluetooth and it will not work! They are both paired and I can do just about everything with them both but sync with ActiveSync. I can use the phone as a modem, transfer files, use the laptop as an external stereo speaker and as a speaker phone but it will not sync with freakin' Activesync! Both the Laptop and the 8525 serial ports are set at Com8. When attempting to sync via bluetooth on the phones active sync all I get is:
"Cannot connect using Bluetooth to a PC that supports ActiveSync. You may be out of range. Would you like to create a Bluetooth partnership with a different PC?"
Oh my LORD!! This is becoming soooo anoying! I have tried searching here and through Google, I have tried just about everything to get this crap to work and so far NOTHING!!!!
I am at wits end! Please if you can help it would save my sanity!

Looks wrong to me, as PDA's COM8 is not laptop's COM8. I suggest you delete all the serial ports, and delete the partnership itself on both PDA and laptop. Then let ActiveSync establish it back as it wants.

I have tried that before, and it still gave me the same message when trying
to sync. The laptop usually sets the com port to 8 and the phone sets the com port to 0, however this does not seem to sync. I will try it again tonight to see if maybe I missed something. Thank you for your suggestion.
If anyone else has any ideas I would love to try them.

For what it's worth, I'm able to sync my 8525 via Bluetooth ActiveSync with my Windows XP Professional notebook. It took a little finegaling, but I was able to make it happen. Unfortunately, the notebook is at home, and the phone is not allowed into my office. If you don't get it resolved by this evening, I'll try to post my settings after I get home.

So......Huston we still have a problem. Deleting the two devices and repairing did not seem to correct the issue.

Hmmm. I have experienced this before, and have fixed it....somehow. Sorry. I have a Dell laptop (yeah ok, wotever!). Established activesync partnership via usb to start. Told phone to find new BT gear, paired with laptop, ticked every box that the laptop presented, including 'allow device to access activesync service'. In BT settings, laptop has activesync box ticked in list of services available. To connect, I go into comm manager, turn on activesync, menu, connect via bluetooth. All sweet. Running WM6.1, had it working on most of the WM6 roms too.

what bluetooth stack are you using on you laptop?

Umm.. would that be 'WIDCOMM Bluetooth Software 5.0.1.2609'? Dunno - whatever is installed on the Dell Inspiron 6400. Would be happy to provide any further info, if you can tell me exactly what it is you want and where I find it....

oh, sorry ads2112, should have been clearer, i was asking acuraman2004 wat his bluetooth stack was, not you.......you dont have any problems with ur bluetooth and activesync right?

You know what I am not sure as to where that information would be located on the laptop. I will search for the information once I get home from work and post it. Thank you for the reply.

Didn't have quite the same problem that you are having, but was having trouble. I found these instructions and took care of mine right away. The author, and the link to the site are listed in the instructions. I copied them to notepad so as not to lose them. Hopefully this will work for you.
BlueTooth Sync
I got my bluetooth to work by following Hazymat's guide: Here (http://www.modaco.com/Active_Sync_over_BlueSoleil_Blutooth-t232696.html) Excerpt:
Thanx to a Hazymat over on xda-dev I managed to get it all working, his guide, for anyone else finding this:-
1) On your computer, go into bluetooth settings. Check bluetooth is ON and set to discoverable. Add an incoming COM port, eg. COM5.
2) On ActiveSync on your computer, go into connection settings. Tick all the boxes. If the COM port is greyed out, untick it, close the settings box, go back in, now tick it and set the COM port to eg. COM5.
3) On the K Jam go into bluetooth settings, and remove the connection to your computer.
4) On your K Jam go into ActiveSync, click 'menu' > 'connect via bluetooth' then you should see a message saying 'cannot find an existing bluetooth partnership with a PC that supports ActiveSync. Would you like to set up a partnership now?'
5) Click YES - you are taken to the Bluetooth settings screen.
6) Now click 'new partnership. As soon as you do this, the K Jam will search, and as long as your computer has bluetooth discoverable turned on, your computer will eventually be displayed. Check the computer name showing on the K Jam is the same as the name you gave the bluetooth profile on your computer.
7) On K Jam, click your computer name then NEXT.
Now enter a passcode - any four digit number (remember it) then next
8) When you do this, your computer will pop up with a message saying "a bluetooth device is requesting authorisation". Open this message and type in the code that you gave the K Jam. The next screen on the computer will tell you that it was successful - click FINISH.
9) Back on the K Jam, the screen will now be showing the services available. AS LONG AS YOU FOLLOWED STEP 1 and 2, ActiveSync will be an option, and you need to tick this and press FINISH on the K Jam.
10) Close bluetooth settings, now in ActiveSync screen click MENU > Connect via bluetooth. Your ActiveSync program on the computer should eventually pop up and connect.
The only port you worry about is the incoming pc one. Active Synch does the rest. You must see acitivesync as a service when you connect. I did not see it until I updated my Toshiba Bluetooth stack from thier website. Creating other ports can stop the synch from working.

I have it working on my desktop PC in front of me. Here's my setup:
PC:
IVT BlueSoleil v5 I think (the one that costs money but has a new slick interface)
Device Name: PokerPro
Device Type: Desktop
Accessibility: Allow other Bluetooth devices to find this device, Allow other Bluetooth devices to connect to this device
Services: Bluetooth Serial Port (COM4), Bluetooth Serial Port (COM5), Bluetooth Advanced Audio, Bluetooth Object Push, Bluetooth File Transfer, Bluetooth Personal Area Network. All have Security On (i.e. a secure connection).
Serial Ports: COM4: Direction Incoming. COM5: Direction Incoming.
Microsoft ActiveSync:
Connection Settings:
Allow USB connections
Allow connections to one of the following: COM4
This computer is connected to: Automatic
Open ActiveSync when device connects
I >don't< have "Allow wireless connection on device when connected to the desktop" set.
On my Phone:
Running WM6 (Windows CE 5.2.1933) (note not WM6.1) and Schap's 4.01 full rom
Bluetooth device name: "Dir Someone" (my name). I don't have OBEX enabled.
Within the Bluetooth settings:
PokerPro shows up as a device. If I select it, it shows Wireless Stereo (not ticked) and ActiveSync (ticked). This is the important bit - ActiveSync needs to show up as a service under your PC paired connection.
Mode: Turn On Bluetooth is ticked, but "Make device visible to other devices" is not ticked.
COM Ports: I don't have anything there aside from "New Outgoing Port".
FTP: Enable Bluetooth Explorer is ticked
Security: Authentication (Passkey) required is not ticked.
ActiveSync: I have "Synchronise all PCs using this connection" ticked, with the default " 'USB " selected.
When I select "Connect via Bluetooth", I get a message on my desktop saying the phone has connected, and ActiveSync turns green and starts spinning.
If I recall correctly, it took me a couple of goes before the ActiveSync service appeared under the PC paired connection (the bit in italics above). I don't recall how I got that working but it was just a matter of deleting the connection and letting them discover each other again I think.
I did a bunch of research and found a few articles that I read at the time, but because I'm using BlueSoleil it was slightly different for my setup. But you can get the general idea of what you need to do here.

I don't see "Activesync as a service" on my Cingular 8525. now AT&T, and I have their latest software. How do I get an update?

BlueTooth Sync

Thanx to a Hazymat over on xda-dev I managed to get it all working, his guide, for anyone else finding this:-
1) On your computer, go into bluetooth settings. Check bluetooth is ON and set to discoverable. Add an incoming COM port, eg. COM5.
2) On ActiveSync on your computer, go into connection settings. Tick all the boxes. If the COM port is greyed out, untick it, close the settings box, go back in, now tick it and set the COM port to eg. COM5.
3) On the K Jam go into bluetooth settings, and remove the connection to your computer.
4) On your K Jam go into ActiveSync, click 'menu' > 'connect via bluetooth' then you should see a message saying 'cannot find an existing bluetooth partnership with a PC that supports ActiveSync. Would you like to set up a partnership now?'
5) Click YES - you are taken to the Bluetooth settings screen.
6) Now click 'new partnership. As soon as you do this, the K Jam will search, and as long as your computer has bluetooth discoverable turned on, your computer will eventually be displayed. Check the computer name showing on the K Jam is the same as the name you gave the bluetooth profile on your computer.
7) On K Jam, click your computer name then NEXT.
Now enter a passcode - any four digit number (remember it) then next
8) When you do this, your computer will pop up with a message saying "a bluetooth device is requesting authorisation". Open this message and type in the code that you gave the K Jam. The next screen on the computer will tell you that it was successful - click FINISH.
9) Back on the K Jam, the screen will now be showing the services available. AS LONG AS YOU FOLLOWED STEP 1 and 2, ActiveSync will be an option, and you need to tick this and press FINISH on the K Jam.
10) Close bluetooth settings, now in ActiveSync screen click MENU > Connect via bluetooth. Your ActiveSync program on the computer should eventually pop up and connect.

(Solved) External GPS in Windows mobile 6.5 beta

Has anybody managed to configure an external bluetooth GPS unit with the new windows mobie 6.5beta?
I can pair them, but the JRTGPS (JR-29) remains disconnected and when I try to connect it I get:

Your device did not connect with JRTGPS. The connection failed or the passcode is incorrect
Tomtom naturally does not see the GPS unit.
See settings at the bottom. By the way the JR-29 are very sturdy, small and compact and used standard nokia batteries so a lovely and cheap 42 channels bluetooth gps receiver!

Thats one of the best GPS I've had. I had another BT and had problems locking on Sats. Had a wired one and also had problems with Sats. GPSlim 236 always locks on atleast 6 Sats and I've had up to 9 at a time. Great buy!
@Gloomyboy: I haven't flashed 6.5 yet, so can't give you feedback there mate.

I have TomTom GPS and it works well with WM 6.5.

I have a Pharos and it works like a charm.

Well, it must be the JR-29 that doesn´t work with 6.5
pairs ok but afterwards stays disconnected (under the new bluetooth settings) no matter what I do

Verify a few things...
1. Make sure you don't set BT GPS as Serial
2. Make sure you have assigned an Outgoing COM Port to the GPS (You need to know which one your GPS uses. IE: GPSlim236 uses Port 6.
3. Try both, Secured and Unsecured for the port you chose.(I use secured)
4. On Settings>> GPS Settings>>Program: verify that you have (None) for "Program Port Software
5. On Settings>> GPS Settings>>Hardware: Select the same COM port assigned under BT Outgoing Port. (my case Port 6)(Baud Rate 115200)
6. On Settings>> GPS Settings>>Access: Select Automatic

Settings for GPS in WM 2003 and WM 6.x are totally different.

In case anybody else has a JR-29 (they were very popular on ebay when I bought it some 2 years ago, cheap and with 42 channels)
Bluetooth Settings:
- Outgoing COM PORT 8
- Authentication passkey required = ON
External GPS:
- Program port NONE
- COM Hardware port 8
- Bauds 9600
- manage GPS on (works with off as well but seems to take longer to handshake)

I have a gpslim240 but my situation is like gloomyboy. When I tried to pair my gps, it always said "wrong password". Can you tell me more about what you did to make it work ?
Did you do all the settings part BEFORE or AFTER trying to pair the devices ?
The GPS problem is the only thing make me regret to have a BA because all other things work great.
Any help is welcome.

I know my password is 0000, I switch to WM2003 each trip I make to be able to use my GPS. I use it also with my laptop.
So I know for sure this is a problem with any rom WM5+. I was hopeless until today. I just want to know exactly what you done because if this is only a settings problem, it's a great new ... I thought it was a driver problem.

well for my GPS it is a MUST to disable secure connection but I have to enable authentica. Play with those settings...

I too have a problem like gloomyboy while using Windows mobile 6.5 beta without Ramdisk version. But I can connect to my external GPS Holux 1000 by using Garmin XT 5.00.20 software.
I didnt face any problems pairing or conecting to my holux 1000 with ramdisk version from Sundream's one.

Try swampys V3 full rom (not the basic version), it definately has working bluetooth drivers.
Setting up external Bluetooth GPS
You only have to do this, if you want to use an external Bluetooth GPS. If you have never used your external Bluetooth GPS, this takes five minutes.
Connecting via bluetooth
* Make sure that the Bluetooth GPS device is turned on.
* On your phone go to Start-->Settings-->Connections-->Bluetooth.
* Set the checkbox "Turn on bluetooth" on the "Mode" tab.
* Go to the "devices" tab and choose "Add new device".
* Your bluetooth GPS device should appear in the list, otherwise recheck that its bluetooth functionality is turned on.
* Select your GPS device and click "continue" on the very bottom of the screen.
* You may be asked for a password - if you know the password enter it of course. Probably you don't because you didn't configure it.
o If you don't know the password, first try entering nothing (empty password) and continue.
o If that doesn't work try entering four zeroes "0000".
o Otherwise try reading the GPS devices manual or the manufacturer's web page.
* After you took that hurdle, check "serial port" as connection service - then click finish.
* Your device should now be listed on the bluetooth devices tab.
Configuring the COM port
* Go to the COM tab in the same Bluetooth system settings.
* Select "new connection".
* Select your Bluetooth GPS device.
* A COM connection will be shown "e.g. COM8", note this down, and click finish.
* Go to Start-->Settings-->GPS (or External GPS).
* Go to the "Hardware" tab and make sure that the GPS hardware connection is the COM connection you just noted down.
Check if your GPS works

Sorry for the clarification/correction for the benefit of the forum users.
NOTE 1 >> So far in the years I've been using BT Devices, all of them always use password 0000.
NOTE 2 >> Serial port is only used for WIRED attachments using a Data Cable. If its BT, do not check Serial.
NOTE 3 >> COM ports are not chosen randomly. You need to know the specific port that your device uses.

You can go to BuyGPSNow and click on Customer Service... Ask a Question... and get the exact COM port that GPSlim 240 uses.

I can now use my GPS !!!!
Here is what I did :
-Add BT device.
-When Asked for password : 0000 ====> Error
-When Asked for password : 0000 ====> Error
-When Asked for password : 0000 ====> No error
Now I can choose a "BT Service" but no service are in the list.
-Save
-In the BT devices list, choose "Edit" for the GPS.
-Go in the "BT Services" and hit "refresh 4-5 times (until the serial service is shown).
-Choose Serial
-Create a new outgoing port (com 6) without secure connection.
In external GPS,
-Choose Hardware Com 6, 38400
Use COM 6 in any GPS software.
I tried to use COM 9 for "program port", but the GPS softwares didn't find a GPS on this port. But since COM 6 works, I'm REALLY happy.

so what is the cheapest GPS unit I can buy for BA?

2 years ago I bought my JRT-29 for 35 euros on ebay
It was advertised as bluetooth GPS 42 channels and is black and probably 5cm x 5cm (or 2" x 2" if you are in the states)
It uses standard nokia phone batteries which are easy to source so a very good purchase as far as I am concerned and works with the BA

Hi,
Beg to differ with you:
1. I personally have a BT carkit mirror that has a pairing code of 8888, and I once had a BT headset that had the pairing code printed on a label hidden under the battery. So it is not always 0000 although most of the time it is.
2. Serial is NOT only for wired use. Older BT stacks used to use a virtual serial port for BT protocol communication and some still do. I have a Holux GPSlim 236 and the only service that shows up after I pair it is Serial.
3. The COM port used is not random, but you can pick any one that is free. I have successfully use COM6, COM7 and COM8 with the Holux connecting to IGO. You just have to make sure that you set up the same COM port in the BT settings and in the GPS program.
Personally, I dont even use the external GPS program. I set up the BT device and COM port in BT settings, then I go into the GPS program (IGO or Google Maps) and set the same settings there and it all works.
Hope this helps anybody who is having problems.
