When I run the latest android build on my Tilt 2, it flies through battery like no other.
Are there any settings I can tweak to get at least a full day's worth of use out of it (mostly in standby anyways)?

Setting the sleep mode = 1 doesn't seem to work for me. The processor seemingly goes to sleep and enters a coma (yes, I set the clock speed back to stock in the startup.txt).
One quick tip to the OP is set the clock speed to stock.
Edit: sleep mode = 0 seems to work (GSM phone here). However, deleting the "acpuclock.oc_freq_khz=XXX" line from the startup.txt and setting sleep=1 just might work as well.
Edit2: sleep mode = 0 seems to result in the phone functionality breaking. It stopped waking up to phone calls after a while, and calling out wouldn't work either. Damn.. Just a heads up.
1. Close every program that you don't use on startup of android. You can do this with advanced task killer.
2. Run stock speeds.
3. Turn down the screen brightness.
4. Make sure your phone goes to sleep when you are not using it (green led = sleep)
Is advanced task killer installed by default?
Also, how can I clock it to stock? I wasn't aware that it was overclocked past stock.
Screen brightness makes sense, I'll definitely do that.
So, if green is sleep, what is the orange?

I reckon hepatic feedback would drain a little battery on its own probably best to turn that off
This is all true. I'll have to do that.
Still figuring it all out. Once I can get a solid 18-24 hour charge cycle out of it, Android will become my primary OS, easily. Simply works better, IMO
For me sometimes it's green, sometimes it's Orange - not sure how to change it back green -
I use Advance Task Killer, but then i also read that Froyo 2.2 doesn't need a task killer?
The two things that have helped battery life the most were:
-Switching to stock clock speed (the reference over the overclocked BLZN which i loved but killed the battery life)
-turning off background processes... i only turn it on when i have to (using the market, etc)

The colours are not that hard.
Red/orange = awake
Green = sleeping
If the LED stays red, then your device is doing something, you can either wait or try closing the programs with the task killer. That will help sometimes.
For returning to stock speeds read the faq And advanced task killer can be downloaded in the market.

Its kind of tough trying to go anywhere without a charger nearby. The battery drains quickly and on top of that the actual battery meter is off.
So sometimes that is a main issue

Indeed but that is something that they are working on it as we speak. Give them time
I ran a test last night before going to sleep to see how long the phone lasts.
Charged my phone fully. Ran advanced task killer and killed all the programs. Put the phone in deep sleep ( green light).
Woke up 7 hours later and phone was completely dead. I do have auto sync turned on, but only over wifi, so it should not have used any data as i have the data turned off and no widgets on my home screens that auto-update.
I'll try again tonight for a shorter time (5 hours).

How did you 'put the phone in a deep sleep'
I turned off all auto updates.
The next day i did the test again, charged the phone to 100% and used the phone moderately for 8 hours before the battery died.
Without overclocking i can safely say i can get the phone to last 8 hours with moderate to heavy usage, which is excellent.
My main problem with the new updates are that it constantly restarts or crashes after using it for less than 30 minutes while before I could use it for several hours. Not sure whether it's to do with battery life or not as when it boots back in WM the battery is near full.
The biggest things that have helped conserve battery life for me are disabling GPS and background syncing but some apps require this to be enabled. :S
Phone seems to recover from "sleep"
FWIW, I set sleep mode = 1 and removed the overclock line from the startup.txt and the phone SEEMS to sleep and "wake up" just fine. Previously, I had problems with the phone going to sleep and when waking up, everything seemed fine, but the phone didn't work. With the overclock line removed, it seems to "wake up" with the phone working now.
Just a heads up to anyone who wants to save battery life.. might want to remove the overclocking line in the startup.txt..

I need a simple app to help with an overheat problem on my EVO.
Let me recap the problem simply, when the phone gets too warm it will shut down and vibrate five times and then blink the green LED. The phone then cannot be turned back on until the battery has cooled down.
I have found a half solution, if my phone is in Airplane mode then it will not shut down even when it is warm. So, to avoid shutdown, I need a simple widget. The widget should be 2x1. On the left side, a simple battery temp monitor. On the right side, an airplane icon to let me know if the phone is in airplane mode or not.
What I need the app to do is to automatically switch the phone to airplane mode if the the phone gets above a user designated temperature. The only exception to the automatic airplane mode should be if the phone is in a current call. Seems like the phone will let me finish a call before shutting down due to heat. Hopefully the app can throw the phone into airplane mode immediately when the call ends. But if that exception is too difficult, the primary functionality would still be worth it.
This is my first app request, so I don't know if I'm being specific enough. I also know that other people can use this app. Hopefully someone out there can help us all out.

There is an app called tasker that should be able to do that for you. At least untill someone can build an app for you.

Not sure what your doing to over heat the phone, but I would try to fix the problem instead of usong a work around. It sounds like you have an inefficient kernel or its too far ovrrclocked. I'm thinking continual use in this overheated state will cause unrepairable damage to your phone.
Just looked at Tasker, from what I can tell it does not have Temperature as an event.
And the problem cause is not my kernel, from what I can tell. I've tried a few different kernels on a couple different mods. I've tried underclocking and under volting. Nothing seems to help. From what I've read, I might have a faulty sensor.
I had a hell of a time with cm7 and the jit compiler. Poor battery life and running warm even when browsing the web. Not sure what your running but it may be as easy as tapping a checkbox.

It's a hardware cpu sensor calibration issue, according to Sprint tech Lokifish Mars. Search for my thread in Evo General.
I avoid shutdowns by keeping battery temp < 39°C.
mine overheated when i was charging and using hotspot/tether, somehow after i wiped my sd card and everything else and installed the rom again it never overheated again.
somehow the more apps get installed the more the chanse some of them be are gonna be running in the backgroung, who knows...

Some phones overheat and shutdown regardless of installed apps, rom, or kernel. My Evo consistently shutsdown at 39°C, even when running bare aosp w/zero apps installed.
It's only an issue for me when playing games, using the phone in high ambient temps, and flashing mods. Keeping the battery & cpu cool with a fan or ac vent is the only way I can flash mods or roms.
Elixir is a free app on the market, you can make customizable widgets (1x1 up to 4x1), one for temp, the other to toggle airplane mode.
I use it to monitor temp, battery, cpu freq, and cpu %, and to keep an eye on ram.
Works well.
The other morning I woke up and unplugged my phone and the "Unplug your phone" notification wouldn't go away and the phone thought it was still plugged in. If I rebooted it would just turn off and keep going from the green batter charging icon to a black screen and back. Only way I could turn the phone on would be to actually plug it in again. Problem fixed itself that evening and the phone was fine for a couple days. Today the phone started with the same thing.
I've tried searching but couldn't find anything on this specific issue. Any insight? Thanks in advance.
Brand new ept4g and I got 6hrs of battery life its so lame I have hack so much bad luck with this bad boy but I'm not giving up.

I'm having the same problems the last few days. Also when I unplug my phone I get a red exclamation point over my battery widget, when i open the widget it says that the battery is over voltage and the red led light won't go off. Think i'm about to go see what best buy does for me. Been dealing w/ this problem for a few days now.
Did you get a replacement? I haven't had any free time to go to sprint with my problem. It is still happening often though.
I had a similar issue the other morning. Though my phone would only boot back up in recovery mode. I reflashed it to out of the box stock but that didn't make any difference. When it did boot up it would show that it was connected to the usb port but it would not be plugged into anything. I plugged it into a usb port on my computer that I hadn't used with the phone before and it reloaded the drivers on my computer and "that" issue went away. After turning phone off it would start rebooting itself immediately or with in a few seconds of turning off. I let the battery die completely and then recharged it and the automatic reboot went away, at least for most of the day, but last night I turned the phone back off and it rebooted itself. I did reroot and restore my phone after I got it to not show the usb connected or the battery charging while the phone was off icon. Just wish I could figure out why it wants to automatically reboot itself when I shut it off.

I figured a way to shut the phone off and not have it automatically reboot. If after shutting the phone off the normal way and once the screen goes black but before the capacitive lights go out, if I again press the power button, the phone finally shuts down without rebooting itself. Not sure why this is happening but at least I can get it to turn off now.
I found better battery life by determining which app or apps drain the battery. I used Battert spy, cpu spy and system tuner. My problem was Touchdown exchange for Androir 2.x. I switched to Moxier Mail. I would get hours on moderate to heavy use. I got 22.5 hours yesterday on moderate use.
It's been three days since my Galaxy Nexus has been behaving weirdly. It says it's charging when is not connected to the plug or the computer. The battery depletes quickly and when it's low on charge it freezes and reboots indefinitely.
I contacted Samsung's customer service, and they told me that it's a connector issue, but what about the freezes and reboots?
Doesn't look normal at all. Are you running stock? If not what ROM/kernal. Have you messed with any power-saver settings or anything of that nature? Different outlet?
I'm running the 4.0.2 GSM default image from Google, factory settings. I reinstalled the original image because I thougth the issues may be caused by the Manhattan custom rom and Franco's kernel.
The thing is all of this happens after I unplug the phone from the outlet: it says is still charging, even if the battery percentage diminishes. It reboots and goes from 40% charge to 11%, then it goes up to 20%. After that it's all freezes and reboots, until it doesn't power up again.

I'm looking for any ideas for the problem I'm having on my G2. I'm afraid it's a hardware problem and not much I can do about it.
I started having problems after upgrading from CM 7.1 to 7.2, but I don't think it was related to the upgrade. I started having battery draining problems, the phone took forever to get fully charged, and car mode would automatically start sometimes when plugging up or unplugging the charger. I cleaned the usb port with alcohol (with battery removed), let dry, and restarted. Now I don't have the car mode problem and the battery problem is somewhat better.
My problem now is that the phone will just die when I'm using it. Usually when I'm using the browser. I'll be scrolling on a page and the phone will just turn itself off. Like the battery died. I can turn the phone back on and it will start up, get all the way started back up, but while it is still loading the home screen widgets, it will go off again. I can repeat this several times. The only way to recover is to plug in the charger. I don't have to hit the power button again, just plugging in the charger will start up recovery mode automatically, I'll choose reboot and the phone will start normally then and stay on.
The phone never dies when I'm not using it. I'll carry it all day, making phone calls on and off, and it'll stay on with no problem. Mostly, I only have the problem when using the browser. Also had the problem while using my newsreader. Once during playing a game. But if I start up browsing the internet, it doesn't take long before it will turn itself off. A matter of a couple of minutes. I don't have the problem with reading emails with K9. Don't have a problem in downloading from the internet such as podcasts. Don't have a problem in sending text messages. Don't recall it shutting down while using the Facebook app. After putting up with this for a week, some troubleshooting and observations.
I never have this problem if the charger is plugged in. Only when it is running fully from the battery.
I've tried swapping to a different battery.
Turned down the overclocking with no difference.
I've changed to other recoveries, CM 7.2, CM 7.1, a CM 7.1 that I was running in May. No difference.
I've swapped memory cards.
I've reset battery stats.
No difference if running on wifi or just data.
Clearing caches made no difference.
So, I start thinking it must be a hardware problem, but then why does it only crop up when internet browsing. Must be power related since plugging in the charger makes it go away, but why does it not have a problem with using the phone in other ways?
Any suggestions on what I could try?
You could try to see if there is too much voltage drop when you start something power-hungry. Use a battery voltage logger and post the results. Start logging, let the phoneidle for a minute and then start browsing. Even if the phone shut off, the log should still be there after rebooting.
Thanks for the idea. I can't locate a logger that looks like it would work. It would have to capture a quick drop in voltage that is momentary. This problem happens even on a full battery and when the phone come back on (either momentarily or after a recovery reboot) the battery level is unchanged.
You might try as well an other way: first idle, then gradually step up to a more power hungry app to see when the problem actually happens. I have no other ideas...

Normally batteries are covered with an aluminum wrap, and can cause short-cuts with the phone itself.
I searched it for a while with the galilio batteries.
You can try to put some saranhwrap around the battery.
I have the same problem with two different batteries. But I'm ready to try that too.

So here's a graph of my battery status. Long time to charge to 100%. Discharges pretty rapidly. Each downturn ends in the phone turning itself off. Notice that at 7:30 today, it turned itself off, I did a recovery reboot, then noticed it wasn't charging very well (green line turns to blue but doesn't increase), then I did a manual reboot and when the phone restarted, it showed the battery was at 100% charge (from about 60% before the reboot).
What do you think - hardware or software?

Well, I just took the cover off for awhile and tried it. Played crosswords (Shortz) for awhile with no problems. Started my newsreader (Newsrob) and it shut itself off in about 15 seconds. So, no short to the battery cover.
Same thing is happening to me. I use poweramp or the browser and the G2 just shuts off. Then I restart it and it tells me that the battery is low. Once I shut it down and reboot in recovery and wipe the battery cache it's back to it's normal battery level. I disabled data and set my phone for 2G networks only and it didn't shut off after. I'm assuming this is a wireless issue? I'm running mimicry 1.3.0 on my G2.
Had the same problem. Swapped out batteries and problem gone.
