[Q] 4G connected, no ip address? - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I recently flashed to gb rom starskyrom.. everything seems to be working fine but lately, 4g connects and doesnt find ip address. Ill have an idle 4g icon ( sleeping zzz...) but when I go to wireless settings>4g settings> and check the sprint 4g network it says ip address 0.0.0.0... but I'm connected? Because it thinks I'm connected, it won't fall back to 3g.. anyone else experiencing this? Does it have todo with signal strength? Maybe my rom?... but it was workin before... my modem? Any thoughts

Just got back from work, the 4g is broken on starsky 4.0, not sure how I thought it was working, but its not.
Not sure what would cause it, I'm also using starsky and have no problems with 4G.
Try the basic fixes
Reboot
clear and re flash
etc
If that don't work, it may be a problem with the network in your area.
Like the day I started trying ei22 roms and utah had its 3g die. I could not figure out what I was doing wrong.

So you have the same symptoms as described above?

4G Constant Scan - connect/disconnect

I have tried to search but it doesn't like to include 4G (to short to be included) in the search box so forgive me if I wasn't bright enough to find this somewhere else.
My EVO will scan for 4G service. It then says connecting to Sprint, then flashes disconnected and scans again only to say connecting to sprint. Rinse and Repeat this process over and over. I have had this issue both on clean installs of fresh rom and currently on Koni's elite series rom. Anyone have this issue as well/and or know of a solution.
I do have a 4G MAC address so I would think that I should be able to connect.
Thanks in advance for the help

Well for one are you in a strong 4G coverage area?
Try shutting off your phone, pull the battery for a minute or two and restart your phone. (If you call Sprint and tell them this issue - this step will be the first one they tell you to execute)
Also you can try updating your profile and PRL, When I am having weak signals under 4G/3G - I update my profile & PRL and it always seems to fix the signal issue...
hope this helps

this happens to me when trying to connect to a 4g signal from my apartment. it will say "scanning... connecting... obtaining IP address/disconnected/scanning...connecting..." (sometimes the "obtaining ip address" does not appear) yet if i try to connect in other parts of town it connects fine. wimax sucks as far as connectivity, so until more towers appear and the signal is better there's probably no way to fix your issue. ive tried every inch of my house, and of course by the windows is slightly better. if you can manage to get a "poor" or "fair" 4g connection you'll probably end up with slower speeds than 3g anyway. it's really misleading because the software indicates the phone is trying to connect even though the signal isn't good enough to maintain a connection. clear and sprint coverage maps indicate my address and neighborhood as "best" 4g coverage too, so i have little hope of this ever improving. there is a thread for updating your ##data# values to get the phone to connect sooner and stay connected longer which i think probably helps, but not enough for me (nothing you do on your end can improve the tower signal) and even if it did, like i said you're connecting at "poor" or "fair" signal and your data speeds will often remain slower than 3g.

I am good coverage areas, my work where I am now can get it in buildings and comically my home is exactly on the line of in-home/on-street. Tried pulling the battery to same results, I think I have current PRL 60675 PRI 1.90_003. Not sure what you mean for the profile though.
Thanks for the tips.
I can connect to 4g with a poor/fair signal now, and heres how I did it if anyone cares:
flashed joeykrim's rooted stock sprint rom (5.1 I think)
updated prl through settings menu
updated profile through settings menu
use msl reader app from market to get msl code
go to dialer and type (NOT call) ##DATA#
enter MSL, go to edit mode, tap the first out of the 5 or so menu items
press menu, choose "restore" (phone will reboot or power off)
turn phone back on and enable 4g with phone on window ledge.
somewhere along the line (flashing many many different roms and wiping a lot, trying various kernels and tweaks) I had gotten stuck in the seemingly irreversible 4g/wimax connection/disconnection loop. Now I can at least connect!

No Network Connection

Happened about a day ago...Everything that access the internet gives me an error connection when I have full bar signal over 3g on my epic. Wifi works fine and when it is turned off I cannot connect at all.
Running ECO5 lastest syndicate rom with genocide kernel if that helps. Hoping this is just some type of sprint network thing and not my phone acting up. I will try changing roms or reinstalling after a day or so. Anyone having this problem or know how I can fix it?
NEVERMIND IM A BIG DOPE data network mode was off..........DOH
Hope this helps someone.

No data on 4g

Lately when I turn on 4g it will connect and then go to sleep indicated by the "ZZZ" but if I try to use data i get no connection messages and the "ZZZ" doesn't go away indicating it is trying to connect. I turn it off and 3G works fine. Sometimes a reboot fixes it for a while. For some reason this morning after rebooting I got the message about updating the modem from EF02 to EF10 even though I am on the EC05 modem. Could it be a hardware problem with my 4G or does anyone have any other ideas?
Did you try adjusting the minimal 4G reception in the "Want better 4G" thread. It worked great for me.

Yes I did that when it was first posted and it has worked fine up until recently. I have 2 other Epics in my house both rinning SFR 1.2 also but I haven't done that mod yet to them. I was considering getting the original values off one of them and changing mine back to see if that helped.
I have noticed that some apps wake up 4G and some do not. For example, I would do a speed test, it wouldn't work, I load a web page, then try speed test, and it would work.
Also, try turning off then on 4G.

Yup, same here. I know Whosdaman said they are doing some improvements on the network towers. My 4G speeds have been better lately but there are times where its hard to connect

I figured there may be a problem waking 4G but even Browser, Google Maps and Market don't work when this happens. I would think if it was a tower issue I wouldn't show connected would I?

[Q] Wifi issues on CM7

Wondering if anyone else has this issue. My wifi is pretty weak on my EVO. i had strong connections before, and after, i rooted. But since i started running cm7 my wifi has become very weak. currently, my laptop has full bars, my friend has full bars on her intercept, but my EVO wifi shows only the dot in the wifi signal display is lit up.
Is this a known issue? and is there a fix? as i said, everything was fine when i was stock, unrooted and rooted.
running CM7.1.0, tiamat 4.0.8.
iv flashed several CM7 roms since rooting, all nightlies.
If this has been answered before i apologize. did a search for "wifi" and found no answers.
did u find a fix for this? i have the exact same problem
You may have low bars, as each device [phone] will register the connection strength, but as long as the data is there, nothing to complain about.
Try updating the radio. Somewhere on these forums there is a post with a combo zip that will update all of them all at the same time.

yeah, I had very poor wifi signal and 3g signal with cm7. Liked the look and feel of cm, but with poor wifi and signal strenght, along with gps not working and wifi tether unable to work, I went back to Fresh.

[Q] wifi connection problem

hey guys,
I searched couple threads and could not find any answer to my problem.
My t989 shows connected to wifi but does not browse web, or any sorta data transfer. this happens only when i am home. some people said it could be a problem with my dsl modem. my dsl modem is D-Link. Waiting for your solutions. Thank you.
Reset the router?

Tried that couple times. It works for an hour or so then it stops working again.

Does it happen when you leave the wifi zone and then come back?
You leave. Wifi disconnects. You reenter and wifi reconnects, but doesn't send/receive data?
Try telling the phone to forget the access point's information and then reenter it. See if it will start pulling data again.
The reason I am asking is because I have an issue like the one i just outlined. Switching roms doesn't help. It's very odd and happens with EVERY wifi spot. I've been wondering if someone else had the same issue.
Do you have a wireless home phone at home or maybe a neighbor who has one? Because from what I understand it could be the radio frequency of your (or someone's) home phone. I had a netgear 2.4 ghz and the wifi connection would be interrupted once my home's phone (which also operates at 2.4) is being used.
So in other words, check to see if you have anything in your house that might be running the same radio freq as your router.
