[INFO] Good news for WIFI calling! - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

so i work at a tmobile store in Southern Orange County.. and i had a tmobile engineer come up to me today asking for the new sim cards our GS2 ... he then showed me a "manufacture testing" tmobile galaxy S2 and wouldnt you believe it .. it had the wifi calling setting under wireless & networks i almost wet my panties !! lol but he was telling me that its very close to coming to our samsungs ... prob by the beginning of next week . He also mentioned that the reason for the push back was because the overall quality of the wifi calls were horrible and consistently dropped out.. he also informed me that one of the head internal engineers stopped working for them and went over to HTC , so we can put all the blame on "her". haha anyways just my 2 cents

of course i immediatly tried thinking of ways to back up his Rom somehow lmao without having root on it .... but he was a lil prissy pants and had to leave .

Good news. Thanks! I hope it is actually next week and not delayed again. My service at home sucks!

FYI, modded ROM's for the Amaze already have it working. I was using it before I sold my Amaze for the G2.

If there was a Samsung phone that's had working wifi calling it would be easy to get it going on this phone. The amaze guys probably got it from the sensation and made it work

All first gen Galaxy S phones had it. Well i didn't have the ATT or Verizon variants but the Euro GS and Vibrant (TMo) both had it and worked really well. The Nexus S however has never had it even though many people have worked on it. Sounds like it's coming for the GS2 and that's good news because mine gets here wednesday or Friday.

Thanks for the info, I hope this information is correct.

BTW its under the "Extra Minutes" tab when adding new services.

Signed up as well. Doubt this magically unlocks anything on the phone but I've been wrong before...

He was right the reason we don't have if yet is because its a new version .older versions wont work

I think they're speaking of adding the "free wifi calling" to your account.
I'm just sayin!

When you go to your my.t-mobile account and go to add services, there's a section called"extra minutes" and under that free wifi calling. Sounds like not everyone is seeing it though for some reason.

Thanks for sharing yep I don't have that service to add either.

The question is though, does adding this feature online actually enable some kind of wifi calling when using wifi? And how do toggle it on our phones?

Samsung Galaxy Nexus coming to T-Mobile and AT&T *CONFIRMED*

"But my test version, provided by Google just a day ago, relied on a T-Mobile SIM card tapping into an HSPA + network."
Which sounds more like it would be sold by tmobile at least.
I could be wrong though.
It's been posted elsewhere that the GSM version works on those networks. I read the article as simply meaning that the test model the reviewer was given was gsm, not lte.

Though I'd love for that to be the case, I really don't see how that is any indicator that T-Mo will be picking it up and selling it themselves. All that the above quote tells us is that the HSPA+ model is compatible with T-Mo's airwaves.
This thread is incredibly badly titled, given the huge assumption made by the OP :\
Thanks for the enormous cocktease.
I went to my Tmobile store and asked when they might get the Galaxy Nexus. The manager told me that Tmobile was not going to get this phone in their stores but it would be sold at Best Buy at some point. I went to Best Buy and asked them and of course they knew nothing about it. Why do they want to make it so hard for me to buy the darn phone? Makes no sense.
Close this misleading redundant thread !
This is very selfish of me but I hope it doesn't come to T-mobile. I want to buy this unlocked from overseas and use it with T-mobile and my legacy data plan. If T-mobile starts carrying it, they might end up filtering the device and force me to buy their more expensive, Android-compatible data plan.

Engadget was able to use both Tmo and AT&T SIMs successfully. Just thought I'd share. It shouldn't surprise anyone though considering the radios support both on paper. At this point, it would be nice to see when ANY carrier in the US will be selling this phone.

[Q] Verizon Wants to Take my Nexus?

I got my Nexus LTE on Wednesday, had it replaced on Friday, and now VZW wants to take it back all together. They are saying that Samsung is working on a fix on the phone, but now Verizon thinks its a Network issue?
Does any one have a Nexus that isn't dropping Data constantly? Is it a bad Batch of phones? Does anyone know what is going on?
The ones with data drops are the most vocal...
I, for one, find my GNex's signal to be COMPLETELY comparable to my Droid X.
I still get the same slightly-spotty service at work (center of a hospital...surrounded by lead to protect from the X-Ray Machines' radiation). Excellent service literally everywhere else I've been.
I'm also not experiencing ANY 4.0.4 deep-sleep related drops as many are.
Bad Batch
So, is there just a bad batch of phones out there? Because this seems that this has to be a hardware issue. With a certain amount of phones that went out.
Mine is working great, I had to have it warrantied twice before I got one that didn't drop signal randomly.
Seems like the ones made in Korea are your best bet for better signal. My China ones were horrible.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I think my wife and i may both be having this issue with random signal drops while on 4G. 3G is solid as a rock. 4G drops and reconnects about every 3 minutes. Does that sound like hardware?
How do you tell where the phone is made?
i really think verizon hates this phone and doesnt really want to sell a nexus to people...
Talked to Verizon
So we are trying this one more time...
I talked to Verizon today, and the Tech person had the same phone and lived in my area and said she was not having any issues, which led her to believe it was Hardware and Software. She also said some razors are having the same issue, and if I switch phones I could have the same issue again. So, I am going to swap it out again and see what happens?
I have had 5 of these phones and they all have this problems.
Vzn just sucks!!! I can't wait until I can afford to break the contract!!!! and I thought sprint was bad!!! T-Mobile was heaven compared to this garbage service!!!!

I believe that the radios, and maybe a few other driver packages, are developed by verizon and only distributed by google when they package their releases. That's what the tiff a few months back was with the CDMA phones being "dropped" by AOSP, a licensing conflict with anything that interacts with the CDMA tech being tied down and not open source. The actual Android code is google's game, true, but it's not the only thing the phones run on.
So there's room for Verizon to screw up the way the phones run in the OTA packages.

Just cause you're having issues with Verizon doesn't mean it's the same for everyone. Have fun being throttled on T-Moible's "4G" after you hit 2GB .
I've had nothing but exceeding standard service from Verizon reps. Only thing I hate is that it took Verizon forever to come out with this phone. And the updates take longer than GSM ones, but still, its faster than any other phone.
I actually don't mind the 2 apps they pre installed. I actually use My Verizon and I used to use Backup Assistant, a lot of people still use it.

VZW customer service is amazing
I have never had an issue where VZW customer service DIDN'T immediately suggest "let me send you a new phone" when I called with an issue. The only phone I've ever had with VZW where I didn't warranty replace a phone (in Droid X's case, FIVE TIMES before they finally sent me an X2) was my old Blackberry 8703e. I'm on my 2nd GNEX (after a bad screen/battery life/overheating issue with my first) and I can't imagine every having someone other than VZW. I mean, I get 20Mb/s D/L on 4G LTE and 10-15 upload...and no matter how much bandwidth I use (with my husband and I playing MMOs via my GNEX) we do not get throttled. It really isn't VZW's fault if there is some widespread hardware issue in some of the phones that shipped.

Verizon did not touch the software or hardware in this device.
Did they supply Google with some apks and libs? Sure they did. Do they affect ANY PART of operation?
Heck no.
Verizon outsources their app development, by the way. If Verizon had modified anything built by Google, it would have broken signatures. Guess what? Google signs our otas and they stay signed (otherwise we couldn't install them).

No Connection Sprint

I'm just curious to see if anyone else is having the same problem. I have sprint and about an hour ago my connection completely went out. I can still connect to wifi as I am right now. I live slightly southeast of Dallas.. theonly reason I bring it up is because I know that ICS was released today and I'm running cyanogenmod 9 which is ICS. I'm worried that sprint now can somehow tell who is using clean versions of ICS and who is using one like I am. No, nothing is wrong with my account and all bills are paid. I've been multiple places in which I always get a signal so I'm thinking maybe someone else may be having a similar problem.
ICS was released today? show some proof, cause it hasnt been released.
i would say billing issues, but you seem to have that covered. probally just a local issue with a tower in your area or something.

Well first off... ICS for our S2'S (ET4G) has not been released. But if you have a link saying otherwise....
Now, a couple of things to look at first...
1. Do you have any friends or neighbors on Sprint??? If their service is messed up to... Its Sprint, give them a call. If their service is fine... Its your phone. If its your phone... Move on...
2. Your rooted and romed... Have you flashed or Odin anything before this happened???
3. You may need to update your profile with Sprint... But I think you need to be on a TW based rom to do that...
And just so you know, Sprint can't tell what rom your running over the air. WoW!!! Can you imagine... Talk about Big Brother!!!
Let us know if any of this helps out.

Sprint can see everything in your about phone section under settings over the air. I've had them tell me what rom I'm running and suggest trying a different rom when I was having data issues on my Evo 4g. They said the info is pushed to them when you refresh a data connection or update your profile. They don't just randomly look at it tho, only when you call tech support for issues does this come up on their end, and they don't give a rats ass if you're rooted and rom'd I've had many a conversation with the phone employees about which roms are cool, what's new and etc. Most of the guys I've talked to are members of xda or other android forums. The only time sprint really cares if you root and rom is if you obviously fubared your phone doing something with flashing and try to get it replaced and even then they only care when its blatantly obvious you screwed up and then try to weasel your way into a free replacement. If you're honest with them they usually just do a warranty replacement and charge you $35 or send you to assurion if you have it. I had one tech tell me how to hard brick my phone so he could swap it and no one could see it had been rooted =-O talk about an odd conversation.
We are legion, for we are many.
I noticed that you are in Dallas. I too am in Dallas and for the last several weeks service has been spotty at best. I am running stock gingerbread now but have had almost all variations of ICS with different modems. The service just sucks in Dallas right now. I have called more than once and both times I was told that we are experiencing upgrades to all of the towers in the DFW area. My 3G and 4G suck donkey balls right now.
I would say it might be a tower upgrade. I had this issue last week and after a few phone calls I found out they were upgrading a tower near my location and had to take it down. I would call Sprint and see what they say.

LTE enabled.

Hi all, Iam about to upgrade my Desire S and have been looking at Galaxy S III. I have just had a chat to Trish at Tmobile UK and she offered a great deal on a new Samsung but when I asked if it would be LTE enabled out of the box or a software upgrade she said it wouldn't be enabled and couldn't give any date if it could be. So I will give it a few weeks and then ask again.

Nice thing to say in the Q&A section
If your phone is a international quad core then it will never have LTE because it does not have the hardware to support it.
The US dual core Snapdragon 4 phones have the hardware in them and should already support it.

Not this topic again did OP even ask a q? Or just tell us what happened with the rep?
The reason I contacted Tmobile UK is that we are about to get 4G and they are pushing it in adverts. Tmobile and Orange are to be named EE, this is the Email :-
Superfast is on its way
Hello John
Everything Everywhere, the company behind T-Mobile and Orange is about to launch a new brand called EE.
EE is the new brand for a digital age and will offer the UK's first mobile 4G network and Fibre Broadband for the home, along with the UK's biggest 3G network. 4G will give you superfast internet on the move, making things like downloads, Facebook® and YouTube™ unbelievably quick.
It's all good news for you
As a T-Mobile customer you'll now use EE's new 3G network, the biggest in the UK. Soon you'll start to see EE on your phone screen.
We will be replacing your local T-Mobile and Orange stores with exciting new EE stores, giving you access to almost twice as many stores as today. These EE stores will be staffed by teams of brilliantly helpful people – including specialists in smartphones and systems like Apple, BlackBerry®, Android and Microsoft.
As part of these changes, if you pay by Direct Debit, you'll notice that the name on your bank statement will change to "EE and T-Mobile" within the next two months.
Still the T-Mobile you know and love
You will continue to be a T-Mobile customer. Everything you love about T-Mobile will stay exactly the same. You'll still enjoy the same great value, and your number and plan details won't change either. If you have any further questions you'll find the answers here
Be one of the first to know
Be one of the first to find out about all the great things EE has to offer, including how to move from T-Mobile to EE to start enjoying 4G as soon as it's ready. Sign up now
It's going to be great
T-Mobile
I didn't want to lumber myself with a phone on a two year contract, so it's not a dumb question for us over here. Thanks for the other replies.
It says new 3G network? I'm really confused.. I think your best bet is to change the thread title and put UK so people know what you're talking about. The difference between the US and UK is pretty huge. You're not going to get much help because the LTE in the US on tmo topic has been beaten to death.
Come on people CLEAR thread titles! Please!!
I still stand behind my post. People should research what is LTE and how it works.

h t t p://ee.co.uk/?wt.mc_id=ON_TMUK_C_breakcover-consumer&wt.tsrc=cross%20brand
I don't know if live links are allowed. Just take out the spaces.
You will see they have several phones which are LTE enabled. So they are saying it's going to work but the reply from Trish not yet. So I was hoping that someone here and some have given me the info. Your reply was US based and what I wanted was a UK answer.
I already answered it. The i9300 does NOT have LTE. The i9305 does. These are UK phones.

It's just we over here are getting crossed info and I didn't want to get locked into a long contract with a phone that may or may not work on their network, if it takes a few weeks so be it.
Thanks all.

[Q] Help to root a Straight Talk GSIII?

Hi all,
I have been guided to this section regarding my Straight Talk Samsung Galaxy SIII because it's model number indicates it operates through Sprint. It is a SCH-S960L. I have had it for about a week. Came with 4.1.2. Does anyone have any information on how I can root this phone? I have searched everywhere and can't find any solid info about it.
I thank you ahead for any guidance you can give!
Lisa
Rooting for all S3 is pretty much the same. The thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=38172219 has almost all the answers to questions you will have. #2 thing mentioned is rooting it will take you to the guide with video just watch the video several times read everything it's rather simple in less than 5 minutes you will have it rooted and custom recovery installed.

you might be right but i remember a commercial saying that you get t mobiles national coverage... but you may be right
ST runs on the Sprint network.
actually, i looked it up and it appears it uses all major carriers... its a part of tracfone which makes it a subsidiary of a subsidiary... but tracfone has contracts with all major carriers
I was able to confirm this phone does run through Sprint, and got it rooted using Skunkape1's excellent rooting directions in the Sprint SG3 forum...

Yes the S3 through straight talk runs on sprint.... if you rooted, did you use a rom?
I bought my wife and daughter these phones through straight talk. The box had the red verizon map on it, and the network type is LTE/ cdma. I'm on regular verizon and can get LTE, but they can't.They stay on 3g most of the time. Sucks. But I am curious if you were able to find a rom to run after you rooted it? I'm not really satisfied with straight talk service. Family seems to have a lot more dropped calls than me. Anything that can make these phones more bearable would be nice.

i beleive that youre phone is probably more related to the t-mobile variant since straight talk runs off of tmobile... check the model number under the battery

Straight Talk doesn't "run" on T-mobile. Straight Talk is a Tracfone service, which depending on the specific device, runs on a variety of towers through a variety of companies. Verizon and At&t are the most commonly used towers.
Well, I finally gave up and put my family back on Verizon. Weird thing was when vz sales rep was swapping numbers, he put the straight talk phone info into the computer and it said the phone was using sprint and some verizon variant network for data.
Was wondering if anyone has ever found a rom to run on this phone. Friend wants the phone, but rooted.

I'm running everything (flashaholic) on my S960L. After I bricked I got it back to life and have been happily flashing since.
And yes, it does run off Sprint networks

Yeah, I'll probably just sell it to him and be done with it. It's a shame straight talk didn't work out for me. Might have better coverage in a city. But where I live, it's crap.
Now on Verizon
The FIRST GS3 offered by Straight Talk WAS on the Sprint network. But after S/T got absolutely blasted by upset customers (and POTENTIAL customers) they finally pulled their heads out of their butts and now they offer a CDMA-V variant...that's VERIZON for those who don't know the codes. There is a code on the lower left corner of the packaging that will say CDMA-S (Sprint), CDMA-V (Verizon) and GSM which will be either T-Mobile or AT&T (not sure of the codes after the GSM as I'm not familiar with those, but the person in electronics would (should) know if you ask).
So now you can have one of the best phones on the market, behind only the S4, on Verizon's network. I got this phone the day after the Black Friday sales, and it still rang up at the sale price of $299. I was prepared to pay the regular price of $399 so you can imagine my surprise and delight when it rang up at the sale price. So what if it only has 3G. I constantly hear people complaining about this fact, so they can either have their 4G LTE on Sprint and get no coverage, or have a contract and pay 3 times what I pay, or have one of the best phones out there with 3G and $45 a month for everything unlimited on the best network with no contract. The choice seems obvious to me. And I'm an ex-Verizon contract customer. Our bill was just too high. I'm happy to pay more for a phone with no contract.
Now, hopefully somebody can answer my question...would it be the same process to root this phone as the one on the Sprint network? Is there any possibility you could screw up your phone with no chance of recovery? I would like to root my phone but I do not want to be in a situation where I'm looking at my phone with a blank screen and no way to recover, or it won't turn on or it changes to Japanese...etc...you get what I'm asking. If there's any risk I'm not going to do it, it just wouldn't seem worth it to me. But if it's something that it works or doesn't and no in between then I would like to try it. Thank you for any advice.
Wow! Great advice

Wow! Top answer here. Too bad it was a complete fail for the straight talk version.
