Hi,
I have only had my WFS since Tuesday, so please forgive me for my stupidity.
Can someone please explain or point me to some links on all the technical stuff about rooting and cooking. I don't want to be the odd one out. Before when I had my HTC Hermes, I had learnt all the technical stuff. But everyone moves on.
All I know now is what rooting is, what an XTC Clip is, a Goldcard, S-OFF and S-ON, and I think that's it.
EDIT:
What does port mean? For like a ported ROM. I think it means a ROM for another device changed to work with the device that the Dev/chef is developing/cooking for.
Mods, you might wanna sticky this.
Thanks!

Take a look at the index sticky at the general section, there are a few guides about rooting and other stuff
Swyped from my Desire S
To be able to do any rooting at all you need to have S-off which is achieved using the XTC Clip.
You'd think that after this thread having 158 views there would be more posts.
Yes. Port is to make one ROM from one phone compatible with another phone.

Thanks! One day I hope to port a ROM.
I'm happy that there's no more need for an xtc clip!
Just search xda for "[tutorial] root/s-off wildfire s without the xtc clip" w/o quotes.

totally owned him!!
I'm not trying to own anyone, the forum has rules we all agree to and in the time it's taken for him to complain he could've gone to ROM development and seen the 3 HD ROMs in there (which have the flip clock)

1. Root your device (i suggest u use unrevoked method)
2. Download a Desire HD Rom (DHD)
3. Flash it from recovery
You'll find detailed guides on how to do this in the Development section
Good luck

Easy man we are all here to help you but searching before asking helps all of us. The reason you should not just go follow 3 steps to root you phone is that when you don't understand what you are changing in the software, you can easily mess something up that we might not be able to help you recover from and we already have had too many cases like that.
Good luck on rooting your phone
I have thought to create this so that there no threads of the same topic again and again and the devs and moderators dont have to comment again and again on the threads.
So lets start it point wise.I'm writing it in big letters so that noobs or anyone doesnt miss anything :-
Do NOT start threads of unlocking your phone. There are about a million people who have done this
The ONLY way to unlock the Wildfire S at the moment is through XTC-Clip
For those who dont know XTC-Clip is a hardware used to unlock HTC phones
You can search around the internet to find an XTC-Clip
And Yeah........If ANYONE creates threads like "s-off" or "plzzzz unlock" then i'm going to send a million PMs quoting what you wrote in your thread
I'm COMPLETELY FED UP of noobs who just think to post before looking around
So plzz do me and all the other guys a favour.......CHECK BEFORE POSTING

Hey xda,
I've been reading trough the S-off thread and I noticed they developed an exploit, i'm not sure if it actually works but. Is it useable on all WFS devices? Or do you guys still call it in developement?
Anyways, Can we safely use it?
Thanx,
ShadowAS1
(I thought like.. lets just open a new thread so I won't spam the dev thread)
Good idea. I used the goldcard method. One of my great accomplishments and proud of it.
Happilly rooted and flash like a madman

oops.. sorry my bad.. I was reading in general, and i'd had another tab open but that was Dev forum. Sorry, if some mod pelase could move this
Thanks
EDIT: Asked the mods to move the thread
Actually the exploit isnt effective in gaining S-OFF atm.....so it's a no-go for now
No, the exploit failed, we are still working. We are very close though, hopefully we will get it sometime this year. We are stuck. We either have to build a kernel, that does done cool stuff, or we have to build an mtdblock driver. It depends. Although it was mentioned that it might ultimately result in building a vanilla kernel, that should fix things up. Again, we are very close. Not long now.

Hi XDA,
Most of the time I just browse around for my answer but I have not found any on this topic so my first post on the forums will be as such
Is it already possible to flash a custom splashscreen on a HTC Dev Unlocked HOX or is full S-Off required?
Never really had this question before because I was coming from a Desire S and there were lots of threads about custom splashscreens at the Desire S section.
High regards,
oGrady
Nobody knows the answer? Hope someone can atleast show me the right way if the answer is that obvious

Boot animation: rooted phone required
The HTC Splash screen: S-off required

Hey there, I'm still relatively new to the whole android scene. I understand the basics for most other phones but when it comes to HTC, I get lost. I just purchased a G2 and I've heard there are some pretty good stuff available for it as long as you do it right. So, I guess my question is, how do I do it right? I know there's something about unlocking your bootloader and getting s-off but thats about it. If it's already been posted on here, sorry.
Thanks!
