I knew there was going to be Bloatware.. Here it is the Verizon Galaxy Nexus will have bloat ware click here. I tried to tell some and i would get slammed when ever i did. If it also hits Tmo or Att, expect the same. The days of bloat free Nexus devices is over.. Im definitely Importing mines now. !
Now mind you i am importing mines soi expect none, but the fact that the verizon version has the Nexus brand name and it has bloat/rear branding horrifies me. its a disgrace
Look at what i just found. while not official it makes sense. One of the bloatware APK's not playing nice with ICS.. SMH
What is going on here, Google?
Unless the definition of what a Nexus phone is supposed to represent has changed, why is Google buckling to Verizon?
There's a Verizon logo on the back of the device too.
looks like the Verizon Galaxy Nexus is exactly that... a Verizon Galaxy Nexus.
You could argue that the two apps are not considered "bloatware", but I agree with OP - it's a slippery slope.
But, since we'll be able to remove them anyways, I dont think the 'sky is falling' is quite necessary. It WOULD be interesting to see what exactly is going on behind the scenes from Verizon/Google (the initial deal, the delays, and the negotiating).

but you can't remove them. you can only hide them.
Not the biggest thing in the world, but how does this suggest firmware updates? Does Google send updates to Verizon so they can tweak it before releasing? Does this mean well be at the mercy of Verizon to release updates? This kinda defeats the purpose of a Nexus phone whose updates come directly from Google.
Damn this phone looks worse and worse today. Wifi Death Grip, now the possibility of delayed or lack of speedy updates. Ouch.

Out of the box, you are right. My apologies, I meant to say - give it 2 weeks, and you will not see them. With the large dev community backing the device, any bloatware, annoying searchbox, or other change you'd like will most likely surface soon.
That doesn't change the fact that it was placed on the device in the first place, which I think is the initial complaint of the OP and many others. If a Nexus device cannot keep carrier apps away, little hope is left for any other device.
Damn. Unbelievable. Goodbye Nexus program. It was fun while it lasted.

The first I've heard of lack of updates from Google is the speculation from this post...I don't think there's a reason to worry until this is actually confirmed as fact.

i'd say it's pretty indicative that updates will have to go through Verizon first. Android updates have always had to go through the carrier if they have insisted on their own bloatware to be preinstalled.
considering a lot of peopel consider those 2 apps useful, its still not a deal breaker.
still, as it hasn't been stated anywhere yet, it's just speculating and rumor-mongering

Yes, this is what you get with a carrier-subsidized phone.
None of the other Nexus phones were sold/distributed by carriers. That is why they had no bloat. The sim-free Galaxy Nexus is also not a carrier phone. It will have no bloat.
If you don't want carrier crapware, don't get a carrier phone. Oh, your carrier doesn't allow any phones on their network that they didn't sell? Well get a new carrier. F***ing CDMA ****e.

Did you even bother reading the article? Christ, you probably should so you don't seem like a complete idiot posting threads like this.
1 of the apps is the My Verizon application, which also allows you to put a widget on your desktop of your phone to monitor data usage (rather useful IMHO). This is hardly bloatware...
The other application is the Backup Assistant application, which allows you to backup your contact information to Verizon's online database, and would allow you to easily, and quickly, transfer your contacts from 1 phone to another without having to transfer them manually.
All things said, these are hardly bloatware applications (like the blockbuster app, or the vcast application). In fact, the article even makes MENTION of the fact that these really aren't bloatware.
Over-exaggeration on your part totally.

I am starting to believe Verizon is pushing the date back to push more RAZR's and Rezounds. Some have said 11-21 and now this http://androidcommunity.com/latest-...ch-date-pushed-back-to-december-8th-20111118/ . Fun fun fun. Could be a legit photo or not, any thoughts team?
I honestly believe Verizon doesn't want the Nexus line of phones to succeed. Google made a huge mistake partnering with Verizon.

Makes me wonder why do they even bother to pick the phone up? I mean I know Verizon wants to bloat the crud out of all their phones, lock booloaders up. There hasn't been much advertising for the Nexus either compared to say the Bionic and RAZR. Another main concern for them is probably the tethering issue for starters. That and they probably wont make as much money since they cant push their crapware market on the Nexus.
Or, you know, maybe Verizon is testing the device, making Google fix any bugs before it gets deployed, and thus don't know the exact date it'll be ready because new bugs may crop up.
Read some of the other threads here about the initial bugs people are experiencing. I'm actually kind of glad that Verizon is taking their time (assuming, of course, that they are really doing due diligence and not just trying to sell more RAZRs).
Also, the bugs being reported here seems to confirm this source: http://androidforums.com/samsung-ga...thread-12-8-release-date-648.html#post3478434
This source claims that Verizon was still testing the device and had bugs crop up, but they weren't serious enough to postpone the launch. Well, maybe it turned out to be more serious than they thought and they had to postpone it. Maybe it was the very same volume control bug being reported here...
I have also read reports that the phone is done, ready, and capable of being sold, BUT, VZW is holding off due the poor sales of the Razr & Rezound which of course why would they suck. Crippled, bloated, and forced to wait 9+ months post next OS or bug fix update no thanks.
While I am not loving my iP4S as much as I thought I would (can't wait to sell it and get a G-Nex ASAP) at least the OS updates come right out from Apple with NO CARRIER DELAY. This is the reason I want a Nexus device so I can do more and get more out of it especially with CM9 coming. Which is the way I will likely rely on updates and fixes and NOT Google/Verizon/Samsung.

Its a combination of both these things.
Google was either stupid or clueless. Knowing those two phones were coming then giving VZ exclusivity borders on the retarded.
When you see the success off the SGS2 its dumbfounding that Samsung would go along with there device being limited to a carrier with no interest in truly flags hipping there device.
Well,
looking at the handful of these that are out in action, and all the issues, I would doubt even the 8th for Verizon. I mean, they are not going to put a product out there if the end result is people just returning them. Especially in the US where VZ is the only drinking fountain for the Nexus.
Someone who is not in anticipation of the Nexus, wandering in to VZ, is going to see the face unlock and the dazzling screen, and say "cool, I want it!" Then when they wonder why there are issues with video and Flash, that they are used to, and if the power consumption of LTE mirrors that of the smaller battery non-LTE, they will want thier money back.
No one really knows what the extent of the issues are because there are just not that many of these phones in service yet. If and when VZ starts selling the Nexus, then you will see what the extent of the issues are, unless they take care of them prior to putting them out for sale.

if it doesnt launch friday ill be buying something else, i'm getting sick of using my cracked thunderbolt and even more sick of waiting
I don't think they ever officially stated a day. I've thought for a while that they would release it with some clause that said no worry free guarantee exchanges for this device since a lot of people are planning on returning their razr or rezound too.. we'll see.

Take a look through this forum. I think VZ would have to iron out all these issues before putting it up for sale. I doubt VZ is going to have thier tech support saying " oh you can just download this app to fix that issue". It's going to have to work 99%, or people will just bring it back in and swap phones. There really isn't anything so magnetic about this phone that will make a regular user say they can't part with it. Imagine 50,000 used phones, cases, screen protectors, cradles etc. I can understand a few issues with a new device, but it looks like there are quite a few.
So I guess we will just wait for the 9th and see.
this is what i know verizon has a **** load of iphone and razrs! wouldn't you try and get the most out of your inventory? i wouldn't want to price cut just to sell if i didn't have to, or at least prolong a long as possible
Verizon sucks. that's why I left them after 10+ years. They are like the Apple of cell carriers. Need to control every aspect.
So now they aren't releasing the Gnex cause their 4G LTE is crapping the bed... Seems their LTE service has all kinds of issues with each new phone that is released to it.

Well I will agree on one thing. Their cell reception is the best.
But I can't deal with their arrogance, and pricing. At the time the OG Droid launched (I got mine on first day), they said they were changing their style... going to be more open with regard to their phones. After the OG Droid was a huge success for both Verizon and Android, they pretty much went back to their old ways.
Now they are releasing their 2nd pure google phone. And they are dragging their feet with the release. Probably making google changed certain aspects of it, making it more closed then the GSM version.

I'll agree that the pricing is outrageous, but until someone with an equal or better network (see: competition) comes along, Verizon will be the status quo as far as high quality networks are concerned.
I don't think the latest delay has anything to do with the Nexus as much as it has to do with the overall network from a QoS standpoint. As a network technician myself, I can tell you that the issues being described with LTE SIM Card Authentication warrant a "freeze" until the problem is rectified. Why introduce a large amount of new devices onto the network without resolving the problem first?
Was just in a Verizon store buying a case for my GSM nexus. Guy said they had the phones in store but got an email a couple hours ago that it was no longer being released on Friday. Didn't have any details but seems like the article posted was true.

Funny I went looking for release dates. Mondays and Thursdays seem pretty common for Verizon. Also funny is the original 11/21 release date (I'm sure it was even earlier then that).
You know I've been on both sides. Push the release date until it's ready and people complain. Release the phone before its ready and people complain. Coming from a LG G2x, I can honestly say releasing the phone before it was ready was good for me but not for the population as a whole. The negative feedback it received as a "faulty device" forever scarred its name.

Motorola isn't exactly known for making phones that aren't riddled with bugs.....
This sounds more like something with Verizon's LTE network and not something to do specifically with the phones themselves.

Sigh... its pointless waiting for this phone.
I really think Google needs to do a HUGE investment into the Development and QA department for Android. Android is huge and requires more attention then they are giving it. Google really needs to get more hands on Android and better testing so less buggy software gets out of the gate.
I have owned all of the Nexus phones and they are always pretty buggy until a few updates later.
I currently have to deal with slow screen rotation, multi-touch issues, laggy landscape keyboard response and crashes, SMS text bugs, Wifi bugs to name a few. How in the hell did the slow screen rotation and laggy landscape response go unnoticed is beyond me. I noticed it the first day i got the phone.
The NEXUS brand should come to an end, its essentially just like buying an iphone…….you pay extra for it, and its no better than anything else out there, or less than anything else out there.
The problem is Nexus is no longer a developer phone. Its now a brand. I knew i was not getting this nexus because sammy had there hands on it.
are you on 4.0.1?, 4.0.2? 4.0.3?
is your phone rooted?
are you running the GSM version or the CDMA version of the galaxy nexus?
is it stock android O.S.?
I don't have any of those issues on mine....
I'm running stock 4.0.2, getting software updates firectly from Google not samsung.
Everyone says the only reason you should buy Nexus phones is because they are so much better than other manufacturers phones. I'm not talking about rooting and such, because you can do that too with other phones and it would be the same.
It’s not just about timely updates. Even the 4.0.3 source code has bugs. This means that all these devices based off 4.0.3 can (and might) have the bugs as well. Then, you have to wait for Google to update the source and maybe just maybe your manufacturer of choice will update your phone before moving onto something else.
Well don't buy a Nexus device again. Then you don't have to worry about those problems, and the people who love the Nexus phone can continue to love it whilst you love your Droid Epic Galaxy 4G Super Touch Plus thing that you buy.
Thats the good thing about Android, you have choice. Your opinion doesn't mean anything, Google aren't going to do anything about it. Find a phone that you like and use it.
Also, have you ever used another Android phone other then the Nexus? Carrier bloat and skins make me shudder.
I disagree with the paying extra. It's essentially like buying any other phone whereas, the iPhone would be $100-$300 more than other phones depending on the sku. I have no complaints with my Nexus but I'm not trying to argue with your dissatisfaction or defend the brand, I just don't see the paying extra part which obviously varies from country to country.

Rooting is one thing, but we like the nexus because of its bootloader and lack of bloat. Let's face it, iphone is easy mode, android(nexus) is expert mode.
Easy mode is... well.. easy. It is easy to master but gets stale incredibly fast and is lacking in features. Expert mode you have to read a couple forums, do a little tweaking, but in the end you get a pro longed satisfying experience that is rich in features and really let's you become... a superuser.
Ps rotation delay is a feature, just tap the screen for it to rotate faster.

I wanna try out the Droid Epic Galaxy 4G Super Touch Plus.
Just for a little input, the rotation "Lag" that you talk about is supposed to be there. People were complaining that there phone would rotate to easily so they made lag so that just tilting your phone for a second wouldn't rotate it you had to actually want to rotate it. Takes an extra second, if that.
Also, ICS was released, you knew that when you bought the phone, you expect a completely clean product the second it comes out? Look at Apple with there battery bug, no OS comes out without it's fare share of bugs, Android is no different.
Also also, why cancel an entire line of phones because you have one mad customer? You don't.
Finally, Google picks a different handset maker every year to make their "Nexus" phone, just because "sammy" made it doesn't take away from the fact that it's a Nexus. Go buy a Razr with Motoblur and enjoy having a "Bug free enviroment" on an OS that is over a year old.

We considered that, and nobody cares. Thats the way the phone is, stop complaining about it and do something about it. We aren't you brain, do some thinking for yourself.
Root your phone if you want to fix the issues, or wait for Google to issue an update.
Nexus phones have historically been far cheaper than average. N1 and nexus s both sold for $529 from day 1. Only the Gnex broke this tradition.
Typical phone launches higher than $600.

sorry to all hear you have all those bugs, im glad AOKP is smoother than ever on my nex
For reference, my last phone was a Palm Centro. Lasted 5+ years, bugs and all. I also work in the computer hardware industry, so while I am new to the current smartphone format and OS, I am versed in technology.
If you wanted something that was already polished out of the box, that's where the other Android and iPhone comes in. Works well out of the box depending on the model. If you want a 'pure' Android experience, the G. Nexus is the appealing one. I think in this case 'pure' is a bad word choice, as it denotes only good. However, it is both good and bad. In the 3 months I've owned the phone. I've def. thought to myself "****! I've got to fix this again!" AND "holy crap! this is way cooler than iOS!" It sucks that you have to extensively play with the phone, but once you do, the opportunities are much more appealing.
TL; DR: Don't buy something like a Nexus if you don't want to transform it to it's full potential.
Why are people still on stock on the Nexus....its a NEXUS!!
ITS A DEV PHONE!!!
you are SUPPOSED to hack it!!!
don't complain if stock doesn't have all that you want..
btw...i was on stock for 2 days...no bugs.
Ived owned two nexus phones and theyve been the best phones I have ever owned. Sometimes they do lack the performance other Androids have but the support/development for this phone is the best IMO.

OK, so this is pretty exciting information, i just hope this isnt something the carriers can disable in some way.
That being said, I do see one major downfall and that is, IMO, this might cause carriers to push the update slower, or even omit some devices that would normally get updated to make sure their apps are getting used on as many devices as possible.
Cant wait!!!
If true, it's a game changer. But why do I get the feeling carriers will still find a way to install crapware/bloatware that we can't remove.

Damn, I agree! The main reason I wanted Root (well two reasons) was for bloatware removal/freeze, and for backing up apps/app data (especially games!)....Well now with most apps doing the cloud-save thing, if Lollipop really does allow us to remove both carrier AND oem bloatware, I won't be as desperate to Root....although IF Root ever comes to our ATT Note 4, I'll still Root, just won't be as desperately needed. I'd still like to put a custom ROM on my Note4 someday, but I can wait a year or so.....after I'm out of warranty

I sent her a picture while on vacation of her grand children, then when I got home she handed me her phone and said "What did you do to my phone, it now has this thing on it" and I had to show her the message!) We see it all the time. People who don't even know that there is a calculator, or how to set up their email, or how to do anything other than Candy Crush on it...
The carriers can do whatever they want to those phones. Those people (and I would bet you are looking at 90% or more of smartphone owners) don't know how to uninstall an app, or don't bother to try. You could make the boatware uninstallable and the vast majority of people would still have it, and never know the difference. Up until recently the only people taking off bloatware were people like us who found a way... Root hasn't been this hard for very long, so their bloatware install numbers won't change much if we can uninstall without root.

Yes, for 2 reasons. Buying an iPhone and having absolutely no idea why she did it. I think people who are passionate about the iPhone an want one, more than anything else are delusional, but at least most of them can articulate why they want it, and many of them use it to its very limited potential. Then there is my mom, who got an iPhone because to her, thats was really the only phone they had at the store. Its falling for the advertising.
And the second reason... she released me into the wild to be a productive member of society... anyone with half a brain would have realized that it would be a key step in the collapse of modern civilization. :silly:

OMG....awesome, thank you so much sir.
What's up with all the iPhone hate? Different strokes for different folks; no reason to bad mouth others for a difference in taste.
Well, seems the way around this is already out there. This will just continue to put these apps on like they currently do, and we still can't remove them. This will only be handy if they have their programs to be downloaded automatically from the play store.....which they probably won't, they'll keep them in the system.

Any proof to this? Where are you getting this information from?
I hope this gives users the ability to remove these apps. Hell if Microsoft can pull it off so should Google. I have disabled over 20 apps on my AT&T Note 4 with the majority being carrier bloatware. Ridiculous.

This is only for phones that come with 5.0 on them. All phones upgraded from KitKat to 5.0 will not have this feature. Also these same updated phones will not have encryption as their default setting either.

My current phone is a Note 4. I've been a Sammy user since Galaxy was introduced (started with Captivate, as I"m on AT&T.)
So, interestingly, I"m not very happy with the Note 4:
AT&T issue - Not rootable. (I don't care any longer for custom ROMS, but miss some capabilities that root offers)
I have several little crazy issues, but 2 main ones are: Google voice prompt speaker whistles with feedback when first say 'OK Google' (Got a replacement and same issue on it); Can't get any app to consistently read texts over BT while driving.
I think the bloatware is causing some performance problems for me. I have disabled several and it did help.
I have a LOT of apps installed. Always have. Counting bloatware that may not be disabled, I have around 150.
Oh, also, I have lots of problems with Pandora on this phone. When the accessory is launched from my car, often it fails. When I play Pandora app, it often quits playing if it is not the front/active app. Very annoying.
If multitasking, it definitely has strong lags.
So I was thinking that the Note 5 would be my final phone for a while (actually thought that about this one). But I read that the 4GB is half used up on initial boot. So, I'm thinking I need to move to something less bloated. I don't have any confidence that the Note 5 would be rootable, I did have confidence that it would be eventually on the Note 4...but it's taking a long time.
Given my large app list, I'm thinking thatI should not settle for less than 4GB . Less bloat may help that issue...look at a pure Android experience maybe. (Of course chasing that via a custom ROM may be an alternative...but we know the status of that on the Note 4. Plus, in the past I've tried a lot of different ROMS, including popular 'stable' ones, and they ALL have bugs.)
I'm hoping to get something that works much better hands free. Haven't had much luck with that with any of my Android phones. I had much better luck with that way back when I was on Microsoft's phone OS, before Windows phone...with Microsoft's Voice Command.
Thinking of switching to Tmobile. Trade in the Note 4 for a Moto X style. Great specs for $399. It'll be easy to pay off. Service monthly payments will be cheaper then att.
But I've invested money in a gear vr and cases. Still deciding and looking at other devices.
Also most Samsung phones on Tmobile are or at most times get root.

I'm waiting for the official launch of the Note 5, and if it doesn't have the expandable memory as its being reported, then I'm a definite bye-bye Samsung. And no matter what, never again AT&T.

I actually considered purchasing a TMobile one when I got this one. Could still sell/change...but I've lost confidence in the Samsung brand working. I hear good things about the Moto phones. I'm considering the Pure...but given my penchant for a lot of apps (none of them games), I'm thinking I need 4 GB RAM.
I don't want to change to TMobile due to less coverage. I have considered moving to Verizon to bet better data speed in my area (St. Augustine, FL), but they would cost me more than AT&T, and I'm not sure I would get better data speeds.

Sounds pretty much for sure it won't have the SD. But even if it does, in my case, I'm just ready to move away from Samsung. Of course, I could find I have as much trouble getting what I want it to do with any of them.
I checked on the Moto site, and it says we can test for 14 days and return for free if not happy. I may just give that a whirl.
There is no expandable memory on the Note 5

I used the note 5, it's the same memory as the s6, you shouldn't be surprised. And you should have no hope for root or an unlock on any att or verizon phone. Seriously, you all know what to expect, but the phone from tmobile or the international version.

No surprise to me. That's part of why I'm ditching Samsung. Maybe my posts haven't been quite clear about that though.
I got to see and hold the note 5, just confirming the reports of no expandable media.
The point of this thread is .... ?
I feel you big time. I also love big ole sammy, but bloat is a huge problem. I have been using the GS6 edge for the last week and I will say I love it. My note 4 is sooooo sssluuggish. Its gets frustrating. I also have a lot of app.s. Maybe that is the problem. I got this to be my everyday device. A phablet. But I am really leaning the direction of just having my nexus for reading/gaming and a phone for social. That has really been working for me this past week. The GS6 Edge is very snappy and the less bloat on these new phones help a lot. I aloso disabled a bunch and put on nova on and call me speedy gonzalez because I am flying.
Yep me too! My next phone will definitely have to be the One plus Two or Moto X 2015. It all depends on what I can get my hands on first. I love Samsung, but if I can't have my freedom on what I wanna do with my phone, there's no point of having an android version of an iPhone. Because if those were my only two options, iPhone would be my first choice. I choose Android because of Root, and customization. Not stupid Knox and carriers locking the bootloader crap. I wish I would've kept my jailbroken iPhone if I knew that were the case. So yeah definitely One plus Two, maybe Moto X if it's unlockable and rootable
Since some Notes are locked down and others not, shouldn't everyone's anger be placed on the carrier? Obviously AT&T and Verizon are the ones at fault. If you like the Note series buy unlocked or go for the guaranteed unlocked Nexus. I have both so when I want to mess around I have the Nexus and sometimes it's nice to trade off to the full featured Note. It really is the best way to go and keeps my anger to a minimum. I have to say with the Nexus you never have these back and forth games and you can do whatever you want without worrying about an update locking you out for the long term.

May try T-Mobile Note 4 - Root...
Before I abandon Samsung, I may try abandoning the AT&T version of the Note 4.
I haven't been interested in putting on ROMS (did that a lot on previous phones, and I find even for those that are touted as 'solid', there are always one bug or another), but maybe that is what I should do. Been reading on various ROMS over on the T-Mobile forum.
So, if I do this, next I need to decide whether to abandon TW (I do like some of the features...), then if not, whether to install a KitKat or LP ROM. I may try one or both of those options, then if not happy, try AOSP.
Then if not happy, maybe by then there will be reviews out on others I'm considering...although the Nexus has to arrive. From what I'm seeing, it'll be October before that gets out.
My anger is with ATT for being locked down and even more so Samsung. Their greed is borderline criminal IMHO. There is absolutely no reason why the Note 4 and Edge cannot have the updated Touchwiz. Wish I had stuck with my Nexus 6, but only gave up on it because it didn't take advantage of the big screen and Android M took care of that. Been trying to trade my Edge for a G4 or N6 for weeks now.
Still seriously confused why some st**id carriers locked down phones? Should have make some research before trading my trustworthy Note 3 for Note 4 at&t. I don't see this device having unlocked bootloader soon G4 callling
I had faith they would break it and be able to root it. Seems that the developers for Samsung or AT&T is finally getting ahead of our developers and winning that battle.
I no longer have faith the AT&T will get rooted.
In fact, it's starting to feel like the leanings are headed to no root more and more.

The locking of bootloaders is to exponentially increase security in order to gain military, government and corporate contracts...which they did. Verizon and AT&T Samsung devices were rated highest in security in today's market. T-Mobile and Sprint chose not to most likely because they do not have the coverage country-wide to encourage those sales.
