Been having a weird issue with my phone lately. I'm rooted, s-off, running stock 2.2, no custom kernel.
Lately what will happen is my phones 3G won't work for loading pages, apps, streaming video as it'll be stuck "uploading". By that I mean the upstream arrow will either stay lit or blink. I've tried to pin point an app that would be doing it with no success. It'll do it for a minute sometimes two then work normally. Seems to happen most often when I wake the phone. Any thoughts?

Hmm, sounds like it might be some app, or service phoning home and hanging. Try using a process manager app to see if you can detect which apps and services are running when your phone is doing that. Try killing all nonessential services, then see if the condition persists. If no, then reactivate one service at a time until it does. If the problem persists after killing all nonessential services, have a look at running processes, and kill any that seem suspicious. Once you know which app, service l, or process is the offending party, try uninstalling the related app.
Hope that's helpful.

I'll give that a try. Thanks.

So after a few weeks of trying, killing apps or processes does nothing to stop the issue. Its very random when it happens and when it does I can do nothing that uses 3G.
Anyone else have an idea?

Is there an app that will show what's using my network in real time? Not a stats app but actual, current usage.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Could it be PRL and location based? Starting to get real frustrating.

Sorry you're still having trouble
Hi Phaded,
Sorry that my suggestion yielded no positive results for you. If you've killed all non-essential services and processes, and it's still appears to be "uploading," something is definitely not right. I don't think it's PRL, but I personally don't know enough about how the radio works to say for sure.
At this point, you could try a different ROM. If you don't already have it, I recommend ROM Manager root. It's totally worth the $ and is available on Android Market. It makes trying different ROMs really easy.
Trying a new ROM would also effectively reinstall your radio, which might do the trick. Before you flash a new ROM, do a nandroid backup from recovery, and backup your apps with Titanium Backup, which is another must-have, IMO.
If all else fails, RMA? It could be hardware... A genius with this stuff I am not, but I have beaten my head against many a wall..
Good luck!
I installed Virtuous 3.1 last night and so far so good. Going to keep an eye out for the rest if the day so hopefully it is fixed.

24 hours and no issue with it. This was a multiple time a day occurrence so safe to say it resolved itself.

Congrats Phaded!
Welcome to the ranks of the Virtuous! Glad to hear it's resolved.
Now you've got ROM Manager, you can safely try a host of different ROMs and themes. I recommend the Revolutions theme on top of Virtuous - it's very pretty.

Having same "stuck in upload mode" issue
I have a non-rooted, stock G2 (from T-Mobile) running Android 2.2.
Every day, as many as twenty or thirty times per day, the phone gets stuck in "upload" mode. The data icon shows that data is uploading (or trying to) and I am unable to use any data-related services (whether tethered or on the phone itself). When it happens it can last anywhere from 10 seconds to 5 minutes. The only way I can forcibly stop it is to completely shut down the radio by toggling airplane mode off then on, forcing the phone to reacquire a data signal.
I've tried resetting the phone, deleting every app, reinserting the SIM card, and even formatting the SD card. Nothing seems to work to solve the issue.
My two main concerns are that 1) I can't reliably download apps, check mail, send pics/videos, or other data-related processes. 2) I'm concerned that if something IS uploading, it may be uploading a LOT and adding to my 5GB per month throttle-cap on T-Mobile.
I've ended every endable process, and killed or uninstalled every app possible (I can't seem to remove bloatware without rooting, which I'm not yet eager to do as this phone is less than 60 days old, and I'm otherwise happy with it as is).
Any suggestions or recent information as to why this is occurring?
Anyone else experiencing problems with the Market again just now?
It starts to download the file, then comes up download paused, then download unsuccessful.
I have tried Force Stopping and clearing Cache's & data etc, no joy.
Anyone else seeing the same?
Yeah I am having problems as well. Can browse to apps, but not download them.
Yeap..

Thank God - I have been going through all my settings to try and work out how I have screwed up downloading from the market!

This seems to be a routine now ...
Me too - Blade (or san fran)
Good news its working again!
I spent ages the other day trying to fix this. Thought my phone was knackered and was going to reset until I saw this. Can anyone confirm if they can download apps?
EDIT: vukis is right... it's working again! Weird!?
I'd like to say It's fixed... try downloading more than one app at once though. Doesn't work.

Just on cue, seems like its down for its Daily freak out again!
Strangely, I downloaded one new App, then and only then did it freeze up. Server overload?
Same here
Trying to update Goggle Maps and install Opera and nothing.
I've had similar problems. Noticed for me though, it's only for updating apps I've moved to SD card. Move them back to phone to update seemed to work. Move back to SD after update.

I googled this about ten minutes ago and I was reading about having to hard reset and all sorts. I came to see what was going on over here by pure chance and I saw this thread, I'm glad i'm not alone! I've cleared the cache and I could download one app, the new Dolphin browser, now I am back to 'download paused' - 'download unsuccessful'.
Unfortunately this seems to be a daily occurrence now.

Having this problem too, Google must be fudging about with it, really winding me up now, bit of a joke really.
Any official word as to why it's completely useless today?
I just bought CoPilot then it pooped up was hoping to try it for 24hours
Not working for me either.
The problem is well known and definitely server side androiddev just confirmed on Twitter that "the right people" are working on it.
Hi Guys, I'm running Warm 2.2 on an EVO first edition (bought the day it was released) and lately I've been getting this really annoying lag problem with the internet browser.
This happens in all browser, the default android browser, firefox and dolphin but doesn't really happen with other internet applications, so I'm thinking it's a port 80 problem perhaps..
Basically - websites take a very long time to load, doesn't matter if i'm on Wifi, 4G or 3G, the site will start to load just fine, advance to about 30%, and then get stuck there for around a minute. It will eventually continue and load just find, but that lag makes it completely unusable. This happens on ANY website. Though you feel it less on sites that are optimized for mobile since they require less data transfer.
Has anybody seen this before? is this a common thing? what do you think the solution is?
Any help would be appreciated
It happens to me too, way too often over 4G. I think it has to do with Adfree, do you have it installed?

It's a known issue, and has been covered many times in Myn's gigantic thread. Anyways, download the app 'ad-free' from the market. Open that app, and hit the big button that says 'revert'. Then reboot the phone. That will revert your hosts files (your internet stalls because Myn's has ad free hosts files cooked into the rom, to get rid of adds, and they are out of date, causing the browser to stall). Once you hit revert, your internet will be normal again, but you'll have adds.. If you don't want adds, go back into the ad free app, and hit 'download hosts files' or whatever the other button is. Then reboot. That should take care of it! FWIW, ad free always breaks my browser on 4g, with whatever rom i use. Not everyone reports that, but it's my experience. So i just don't bother blocking ads anymore, and have full speed browser.

Ditto buckley. Once I revert back I just go ahead and don't block them and it runs fine for me. I would suggest doing this also

I had a problem a while back with the Appstore logging out daily, so each log in adds a new device on-line. It was "fixed" on a revC apk and working fine for a few weeks. Just started doing the same yesterday. Anyone else having this issue?
I haven't seen this issue since it was fixed except for once. The appstore was logged out for no reason. It hasn't happened since so I haven't thought about it again. Not sure of any cause though.

Ditto here. I think I'm done with Amazon apps. Combine the losing password with the fact that you can't see the version of app store without logging in (to see if you need to update) and you can't paste into the password box (since I keep my passwords in a safe and normally don't see/type them) it becomes way too annoying.
So you are giving up on an app that gives you a free app every day because you occasionally have to re enter your details?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD
I uninstalled appstore, and re downloaded and reinstalled from here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/mas/get/android seems to stick now. I have too many free apps to give it up, although I am replacing them 1 by 1. Play is so much faster at updating.

Well, not just that. The free app every day used to include some good ones, but I can't remember the last time I saw one that interested me. The re-entering of details (and situations where you can't do that, like if you're on a plane) combined with the lack of timely app updates (and occasional battery drain issues) just make it more hassle than it's worth for me. YMMV.
I installed Dolphin Browser on my phone a few days ago because I love the browser but I noticed my data went up a lot quicker than it ever has. Luckily I have Unlimited data but it's currently at 11GB. Dolphin Browser used 7.34GB while in the Background which is odd. I noticed the problem when I would leave my phone on over night at 70% and wake up to a very low battery or a dead phone.
It's the best browser I've ever used but I don't know what would cause Dolphin to use that much data. Any ideas?

Why not just use the stock browser? Or at least Chrome? I haven't used Dolphin since the Moto Cliq lol. It's definitely not one of the better browsers, especially on the note 2.

I seem to remember Dolphin doing the same things on my Vibrant and haven't bothered with it since. Definitely try another browser. The others don't have that problem.
It's definitely a hog, but I can't do without it. I keep it frozen (along with most of my apps) when not using it.
Because it has all the add on capability so it's constantly on to search for update and stuff

Its not a virus.. Well unless you consider The Browser itself a virus. Its not but it does come close.Look at the permissions on dolphin browser. I once seen a article how it pushes adds to the browser in the back ground and Makes clicks on your behalf to pay the developer money .
I have not tried using it in a Long time like many above its definitely malware.
Just my thoughts
any phone I've ever had has ran like crap the day after I installed dolphin so I agree also with above its may have been good once but now it's just a system slower and I guess a data killer too so hey Dolphin browser is a double threat

For it to use 7gb on background is had to do a lot more than push ads. Anyway i used Dolphin on every phone and never had a problem.
i dont mean to bump an old thread, but i have just found this out today, i have adblock plus and have been using dolphin when not on wifi for the last 2 days, i have been letting the device sleep with it running in the background and i have checked today and have used my data for this month aswell as gone over $7, 250mb and 160mb today,
i dont know what it has been doing while its asleep, today i checked and it was at 160mb remaining then 1 hour later i got a message about nearly going over my cap 10mb remaining then when i checked it had gone past that.
its definitely spyware because why else would it be doing while idling no webpages open, i dont use its addons just stock without its ux improvement program, no dolphin connect either, i didnt block its privileges via pdroid unfortunately
if you read their privacy policy it could of drained it through, update service and push notifications as well as the other ones listed below,
dolphin engine beta, may use the information without your permission, if you disagree please do not use the application
i do use other browsers without issues opera, stock, i just wished i saw this thread earlier, time to remove it
other than the security flaw 2 years back there must be something else its sending back to its server

I use boat browser and no issues. Dolphin always gave me issues so I left it and never looked back.
It's definitely also my favorite browser !
Why?
- fast
- displays Facebook very nice
- javascripting, html5 works
- youtube works fine
- handy settings sync
I'm using Maxthon also, which might compete.
I've tried others such as Boat but it didn't suit me.
Pitty Opera has become so bad in displaying webpages.
So I discovered the same problem here via data usage app.
IMO it's facebook that's connecting all the time?
They only way is to shut down the browser every time?
Came across this thread doing a google search for other people noticing battery drain with Dolphin.
I've never noticed any unusual data usage, but I wonder if that's related to automatic updating. I have my phone and tablet set to only update when on WiFi and I'm on WiFi quite often.
I have recently noticed a ton of battery drain though, especially on the tablet. Took me awhile to figure out which app(s) might be responsible, but I found that when issuing a Force Stop after finishing with Dolphin, my battery tends to level off. Once I exit the browser, its not listed as running in the app killer that I have, but from the App manager the Force Stop option is available, so I guess its still running after all.
Attached is a photo showing normal battery levels to the left, then the sudden battery drain next to it. Then the battery charging and continued excessive drain once unplugged, followed by the battery leveling off when killing everything I found running in the OS (not specifically Dolphin by itself). After this though, I routinely FS Dolphin after using it and the battery's been behaving much more normally.
Its a pain, but it just runs so much better than other browsers I've used..
Using "Greenify app" maybe helps. ..
