Hi Guys, I'm running Warm 2.2 on an EVO first edition (bought the day it was released) and lately I've been getting this really annoying lag problem with the internet browser.
This happens in all browser, the default android browser, firefox and dolphin but doesn't really happen with other internet applications, so I'm thinking it's a port 80 problem perhaps..
Basically - websites take a very long time to load, doesn't matter if i'm on Wifi, 4G or 3G, the site will start to load just fine, advance to about 30%, and then get stuck there for around a minute. It will eventually continue and load just find, but that lag makes it completely unusable. This happens on ANY website. Though you feel it less on sites that are optimized for mobile since they require less data transfer.
Has anybody seen this before? is this a common thing? what do you think the solution is?
Any help would be appreciated
It happens to me too, way too often over 4G. I think it has to do with Adfree, do you have it installed?

It's a known issue, and has been covered many times in Myn's gigantic thread. Anyways, download the app 'ad-free' from the market. Open that app, and hit the big button that says 'revert'. Then reboot the phone. That will revert your hosts files (your internet stalls because Myn's has ad free hosts files cooked into the rom, to get rid of adds, and they are out of date, causing the browser to stall). Once you hit revert, your internet will be normal again, but you'll have adds.. If you don't want adds, go back into the ad free app, and hit 'download hosts files' or whatever the other button is. Then reboot. That should take care of it! FWIW, ad free always breaks my browser on 4g, with whatever rom i use. Not everyone reports that, but it's my experience. So i just don't bother blocking ads anymore, and have full speed browser.

Ditto buckley. Once I revert back I just go ahead and don't block them and it runs fine for me. I would suggest doing this also

I dont live in a 4g area so this is hard for me to test. When i was away for work in a 4g area i noticed some web pages would load and some would load halfway and stop. Im rooted running evio rom from caulklin. After playing around for a while it seemed once i uninstalled ad free the problem went away. Can anybody else confirm this or have a fix? Thanks!
Anybody? I cant be the only one.
Can you list some of the site you were having issues with? I use Ad Free and live in a 4G area. If you give me some specifics I can test it out for you.
Yes it does. Noticed this a couple of months ago. When using 4G and ad free, a site will not load passed the first ad. It will get stuck in the ad tag and prevent the entire page from loading. Using 3G or WiFi the site will load. 4G really isn't broken as you can use it for anything else that requires a data connection but you won't be able to load pages with ads.
For example, on 4G, load espn.go.com. It won't load. Now load the adless espn mobile site. It will work.
This is an interesting problem, because Adfree does not interfere with browser operation on 3G or WiFi or with non-browser apps. The issue is specific to 4G and browsers. There must be a simple work around?
Wow I have been having the same issue and did know what the cause of it was. My first thought it must have be the custom rom that was causing this issue. I will uninstall Ad free to see if the issue does in deed go away.
Update: Yup, that did resolved my issue. Thanks OP
AdFree merely replaces the hosts.txt file in the \system\etc directory. Are you guys implying that removing AdFree restores the stock file? I'm having this web page loading issue but I manually swapped out the hosts file without installing AdFree...
If so, that's a tough decision...no ads or full browser......
How did you get the original hosts file. I need it because my uninstallation of adfree didn't fix my problem with the browser not fully loading pages .

AdFree has a button to revert your hosts file. So reinstall, revert, then restart.

Hello,
Hope to get some help on this. I've got an Inc rooted with CM7 build # 29. Using the built in tethering with windows 7, I get a lot of strange behavior. Everything shows like it's connected, but some web pages fail to load, or if i'm downloading a large file it quits a fraction of the way into the download. If i refresh a few times it may start again like nothing and actually quite fast. But this only seems to work in short bursts and then quits again.
I've searched all over the forums only to find solutions pointing to PDA net or some other app. I feel this is not a proper fix though since the native tethering is supposed to be better and everybody says with root you do not need a paid app for accesing secure sites.
Maybe the fix is buried somewere in the older threads and someone can point me out to it. Anyways any help is appreciated and thanks all ahead of time.

Hey,
I've been experiencing this issue as well, except I had it tethered to my iPad. It said I didn't have an Internet connection when I loaded up a page in Safari. Perhaps it's because I've installed a different kernel? I cannot seem to find the cause of this issue.

Haven't tried tethering on CM7, but I had the same problem on the rooted stock rom with wifi-tether app.
Try "wireless tether for root users" from the market or google it. It works well for me most of the time.
I am new to the site, I have been using it to learn a lot, I love it. I have one complaint, the sites pages continually refresh. Usually I have several tabs open most of which are Xda and the continued refreshing is slowing everything down.
Just a note I have a hard lined win7 PC, a Mac book pro, and a Win7 laptop all of which have FF and Crome the Mac has Safari and both PC's have IE I have checked all browsers and all three computers, this refreshes nearly continually on every thing. Is there anything I can do to stop this on my end, its really irritating.
I would like some feedback on this too as it is REALLY irritating. Especially on the phone because the address bar keeps coming up and interfering with reading of Xda threads. Most of the time I get so frustrated with it I just say forget it and wait until I can view on my computer.
I assume it has to do with the ad's regenerating or something??
Any way to turn it off or something?
+1
all this refreshing when browsing from work is not a good thing either.
I am experiencing the same problem of refreshing, but also my XDA tab(s) crash and restarts itself. I can't really search, post, or do much with this site since it keeps refreshing and crashing. I have Windows 7 (64-bit) using IE 8.
my guess is that it has something to do with the ads. im using google chrome with the extension "adblock" installed and i am not experiencing this issue. however, when i use firefox (which does not have any adblocking plug in installed) the pages seem to refresh every so often.

I only have the issue on my Nexus 7. When I view the site from my PCs it seems to work fine, but from my tab its horrible with the refreshing.
I installed Dolphin Browser on my phone a few days ago because I love the browser but I noticed my data went up a lot quicker than it ever has. Luckily I have Unlimited data but it's currently at 11GB. Dolphin Browser used 7.34GB while in the Background which is odd. I noticed the problem when I would leave my phone on over night at 70% and wake up to a very low battery or a dead phone.
It's the best browser I've ever used but I don't know what would cause Dolphin to use that much data. Any ideas?

Why not just use the stock browser? Or at least Chrome? I haven't used Dolphin since the Moto Cliq lol. It's definitely not one of the better browsers, especially on the note 2.

I seem to remember Dolphin doing the same things on my Vibrant and haven't bothered with it since. Definitely try another browser. The others don't have that problem.
It's definitely a hog, but I can't do without it. I keep it frozen (along with most of my apps) when not using it.
Because it has all the add on capability so it's constantly on to search for update and stuff

Its not a virus.. Well unless you consider The Browser itself a virus. Its not but it does come close.Look at the permissions on dolphin browser. I once seen a article how it pushes adds to the browser in the back ground and Makes clicks on your behalf to pay the developer money .
I have not tried using it in a Long time like many above its definitely malware.
Just my thoughts
any phone I've ever had has ran like crap the day after I installed dolphin so I agree also with above its may have been good once but now it's just a system slower and I guess a data killer too so hey Dolphin browser is a double threat

For it to use 7gb on background is had to do a lot more than push ads. Anyway i used Dolphin on every phone and never had a problem.
i dont mean to bump an old thread, but i have just found this out today, i have adblock plus and have been using dolphin when not on wifi for the last 2 days, i have been letting the device sleep with it running in the background and i have checked today and have used my data for this month aswell as gone over $7, 250mb and 160mb today,
i dont know what it has been doing while its asleep, today i checked and it was at 160mb remaining then 1 hour later i got a message about nearly going over my cap 10mb remaining then when i checked it had gone past that.
its definitely spyware because why else would it be doing while idling no webpages open, i dont use its addons just stock without its ux improvement program, no dolphin connect either, i didnt block its privileges via pdroid unfortunately
if you read their privacy policy it could of drained it through, update service and push notifications as well as the other ones listed below,
dolphin engine beta, may use the information without your permission, if you disagree please do not use the application
i do use other browsers without issues opera, stock, i just wished i saw this thread earlier, time to remove it
other than the security flaw 2 years back there must be something else its sending back to its server

I use boat browser and no issues. Dolphin always gave me issues so I left it and never looked back.
It's definitely also my favorite browser !
Why?
- fast
- displays Facebook very nice
- javascripting, html5 works
- youtube works fine
- handy settings sync
I'm using Maxthon also, which might compete.
I've tried others such as Boat but it didn't suit me.
Pitty Opera has become so bad in displaying webpages.
So I discovered the same problem here via data usage app.
IMO it's facebook that's connecting all the time?
They only way is to shut down the browser every time?
Came across this thread doing a google search for other people noticing battery drain with Dolphin.
I've never noticed any unusual data usage, but I wonder if that's related to automatic updating. I have my phone and tablet set to only update when on WiFi and I'm on WiFi quite often.
I have recently noticed a ton of battery drain though, especially on the tablet. Took me awhile to figure out which app(s) might be responsible, but I found that when issuing a Force Stop after finishing with Dolphin, my battery tends to level off. Once I exit the browser, its not listed as running in the app killer that I have, but from the App manager the Force Stop option is available, so I guess its still running after all.
Attached is a photo showing normal battery levels to the left, then the sudden battery drain next to it. Then the battery charging and continued excessive drain once unplugged, followed by the battery leveling off when killing everything I found running in the OS (not specifically Dolphin by itself). After this though, I routinely FS Dolphin after using it and the battery's been behaving much more normally.
Its a pain, but it just runs so much better than other browsers I've used..
Using "Greenify app" maybe helps. ..

All,
Have any of you new G4 owners been experiencing ridiculously slow page loading times with the stock browser? My old GS3 loads web pages much faster in Chrome by comparison, as does my work iPhone. What gives?!
Thanks in advance!
Same here. With stock chrome it's lagging when i watch a movie on website.

Have you tried a different version of chrome like the beta, or my favorite right now, Chrome Dev?
I haven't tried any other versions of chrome...did notice that I wasn't even able to load a page at all while photos were uploading, wonder it has to do more with how it's handling data traffic.

I've noticed it also happens when using the "in app" browsers in Facebook or Twitter. I've also tried increasing the memory available to chrome using by typing in by changing maximum tiles for interest area to 512 to no avail.
I'm beginning to think this may be a wifi connection issue, even tho my wifi tests faster than the 4G connection. Pages are loading much more quickly over 4G.
Yes i think this is wifi related also... Same happens to me but only on wifi

It just seems to have problems loading web pages for me. Sometimes I will just get black squares but other times it just wont load. I will refresh and get nothing for awhile. I'm doing this at home where my Note 4 wasn't having a problem. Also doing this on cellular data. I doubt this is a network issue.

I did try chrome beta and Opera mini- opera was faster due to the data compression, but chrome beta was just as slow to load.

I've noticed insanely slow loading times using IPv6 over WiFi with some Comcast modems, so I rooted and disabled v6. Dunno if you guys are having the same issue, but it fixed my problems. Apps like Instagram were slow to load/refresh as well, though.

yup had this issue on my note 3, only improved on disabling adaway. so far its not occurred on my g4 using adaway so not even sure what triggers it.
