[Q] RECOVERY:CWM v4.0.1.4 problem - Wildfire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a problem with CWM 4.0.1.4.
Yesterday did S-OFF on my device using Revolutionary, at the end of the process asked me if I want to install CWM and i said yes.
Then I tried to flash radio (GPS problem) and installation was aborted.
(Amend scripting (update-script) is no longer supported.
Amend scripting was deprecated by Google in Android 1.5.
It was necessary to remove it when upgrading to the ClockworkMod 3.0 Gingerbread based recovery.
Please switch to Edify scripting (updater-script and update-binary) to create working update zip packages)
Sorry for my bad english.

Flash this ZIP in CWM 4.0.1.4, it will give you temp 2.5.0.7 (Green Text), then, flash the radio as normal:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=662193&d=1311319218
You will get the same error in installing Sense based / Froyo ROM's. The procedure to solve it remains the same.

Thanks, it worked.

I have other problem.
I s-off by revolutionary than i put Yes when ask about CWM.
and? now i have some problem with charging phon when it is power off.
When i put phone to charger when it is power off i see only orange light... for all time. When i disconect phoe from charger still i see orange light and i cant power ON my phone or enter fastboot menu. To resolve problem i have to put out battery for a while put battery on again and than i can power on the phone. Someone else have this some problem?

You need to update the cmw. The 1 you got with s - off 4.0.1.4 that is a known problem. I recommend this cmw 5.0.2.0, please read the dev section how to update and all the info on this issue is there.

[Q] E:signature verification failed ClockWorkMod

Hi Guys
been searching for hours for a solution but can't find anything.
Installed Lambros Rom - all fine. I've booted into recovery to put my old rom on and I get the following error:
E: Can't Open/cache/recovery/command
--Install from sdcard--
Finding update package
Opening update package
Verifying update package
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
So i've reformatted the card, wiped the phone cache and tried several different rom and I get the same error. Using ClockWorkMod recovery and rom manager.
Can anyone help? Is this a common error?
Bootloader 0.80
Baseband 32.42.00.32U_5.09.00.20
I dont know very well but it can be about S-on-off issue
Try disabling verification in clockwork. From memory I think its under the advanced option. It says toggle verification. Hope this helps

It is the signature verification but to toggle it you need to (in recovery) go to 'install update from zip' and there should be the option to toggle it.
I have the same problem. My question is whether there is anything I can do to avoid this problem the next time I upgrade to a newer version of leedroid?
BTW my HTC Desire was unrooted using the unrevoked method and I'm currently running leedroid 2.2f.
Thanks in anticipation.

I still have bootloader 0.80 - this sort of indicates I didn't upgrade to the OTA 2.2 can someone back me up on this?
If I unroot my phone to 2.1 using a gold card and then re-root do you think this will work?

^ This.
All you have to do is go into recovery, install zip file from sd, and toggle the signature verification. This has happened to me a few times; I just simply toggled it, and the ROM flashed perfectly.
sorry for ressurecting, but i have a similar problem.
wanted to install a custom rom and for some reason it failed und bricked my phone.
i boot into fastboot, but every time i want to flash a new rom, it says "signatur verfication failed" and i do not have the option to toggle it off.
hboot 0.80

You need to be in recovery, not in fastboot.
Are you even rooted and have a custom recovery image?

You need a fake flash recovery image.
AmonRa version can be found here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=689778
download it, place it on SD card. Boot into fast boot, chose run update.zip and it will boot in to the fake flash this is where you get all the option you need.
Get back to me if you have an trouble.

I have exalty the same problem as you. I have been looking all over the place for a tutorial I could follow. I even downloaded a zip signer and tried to sign the update.zip file I downloaded from the leedroid thread on xda. It did not work.
From what I understand from the above:
You have the exact problem as you

I think if you're on the leaked 2.2 rom you won't be able to use clockwork recovery successfully. You'll have to downgrade to 2.1, root, install clockwork recovery and then install the rom.
That's what worked for me.
Install Clockwork recovery.
Then boot into recovery (after a nandroid backup) and toggle off verification.
Then you won't get the error when you apply the update.zip. You must do this in recovery.
Toggle off verification in Clockwork recovery:

Cheers!
I've read all these posts, but my phone refuses to show me the clockwork recovery menu.. no matter what I do, I always get the android system recovery menu..
Please help..
Also, I cant get my phone into recovery/download mode using the 3 button combo. I've tried every possible combination, but the only way I can get to the default 'android' recovery menu is by using the ROM Manager app.

Hey guys, if you're still having this 'Signature Verification Failed" nonsense and Clockwork Mod is not letting you flash anything, check this thread (on the third page, my post tells you the fix), I just solved my own issue
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=944426&page=3
Good luck, post back if you have questions/comments, I'll check back and hopefully find you solved your problems as I have
Cheers
just try flashing clockwork mod
I am having the same exact issues. But i have found a workaround that is working for me.
When presented with the error, i go to the "Advanced" menu and select "Reboot recovery". After rebooting, on my phone, the process will start as desired
by me the same problem, it always comes E: signatur verification failed
So turn off signature verification in recovery. Should be in "Advanced".

[Q] Clockworkmod Recovery system will not install/start

Hi!
i've got a big problem with my HTC Desire Device. I flashed Ginger Villain 0.6 (or so) some days/weeks ago and updated to 0.8 some days ago but forgot to wipe data&cache. Today I tried to start the clockworkmod recoverysystem to restore my nandroid backup from Ginger Villain 0.6 (because of a note stored in "note everything" which wasn't working anymore after the update to Ginger Villain 0.8.
When i try to start the recovery system, i only get a red exclamation picture. I did a factory reset and then ROM Manager was gone and I wasn't able to reinstall it through market. I managed to install ROM Manager trough a manually downloaded .apk file. When I start the ROM Manager and install the Recovery system, everything goes fine but (i choose my device, get the message that ROM Manager where granted root priviliges) but when i try again to start into the recovery system i get the red exclamation mark again. I also tried to run unrevoked3 again, it pushes the recovery system and then it says that it cant get root (firmware too new?) anyway i have root privileges, it seems that error message doesn't matter.
any advice?
thank you
do you have s-off, you could try reflashing the clockworkmod recovery from fastboot
someone else reported clockworkmod just randomly dissapeering and it was the same rom too :/
hope theres not a bug
if you dont have s-off then the only thing i think you can do is reinstall an RUU, Re-root it and then restore the nandroid
Thanks for your reply. Whats s-off? How do i reflash the ruu? With the original exe from htc website?
just realised something, you mention rom manager quite alot
have you tried accessing recovery via hboot?
voldown+power then select recovery via volume rocker and select with power button.
what version of hboot are you on? did you use unrevoked to root the device or an older method?
Yes i tried accessing recovery via hboot, its v 0.80 i think. I rooted my device with an older method than unrevoked, but i dont remember how
I verified my hboot version: 0.80
ahh ok this makes sense now
you used fake flash to get to recovery
your latest rom does not like fake flash boot from rom manager ive seen this before)
so basically you need to do the following
download this file
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5684959/stuff/recovery-clockwork-2.5.0.7-bravo.zip
rename it to update.zip
place it on the root of your sdcard
boot to recovery using voldown + power (then select recovery with vol down and press power)
when you get to the screen with the exclamation hold vol up and press power.
you will be greeted with the blue engineering recovery
select apply update.zip and it should take you to clockwork mod where you can restor/backup what you need
you problem is that rom manager doesnt like the new build and because youve not used the original root method for so long you have forgotten
you can find someone with the same problem here
http://androidforums.com/desire-all-things-root/253957-rom-manager-problems.html
any luck!!!!
Hi! That sounds very good but i haven't had time yet to try these steps, i'll report back soon.

[Q] Problems flashing CWM after AlphaRevX

Hi,
Recently I turned my Wildfire S-Off with AlphaRevX. After Rooting with SuperOneClick I tried to install CWM 2.5.0.7 with Rom-Manager.
Rom-Manager itself told me everything went right. I tried to boot to Recovery, BUT:
Just got a Red Punctuation mark and after pressing Vol Up it said "Command not found in /Recovery/ "
Is this a known problem?
I think I can try to flash CWM via fastboot, but i'm not sure if I should do that.
The big question is: Are there any known problems with CWM 2.5.0.7 and HBOOT 1.01.00002 (don't know, but I think thats my version) after flashing via Fastboot?
Will it be possible to use Rom-Manager to install Roms?
Thx
BBsan
The same here.
How are you trying to access Recovery Mode? If you use the conventional Vol Down + Power, it will not work, and, as such, can only be accessed when you select Reboot into Recovery from within ROM Manager.
Anyway, Getting CWM from ROM Manager is more like a "temporary / secondary" way to get it. It is recommended to use Fastboot to write a Recovery directly to the NAND. Using it will not have any issues (Did it personally).
Lastly, your HBoot will be 6.01, after using AlphaRev X. There will be no issues using v2.5.0.7. The problem is, you will not be able to install Gingerbread ROMs, and, if you install v3.x.x.x, you will not be able to install Sense Froyo ROMs and Radios. Hence, the recommended technique is to Flash a Clockworkmod 3.x via Fastboot (ie in your NAND), and, Flash Clockworkmod again, but via ROM Manager to get 2.x. So, you have both,
Okay thx alot, I'll try tonight.
What Version does unrevoked flash by default?
I've got a second wildfire with old HBOOT and was able to flash CM7 without any problems via Rom-Manager.
Interesting.. Though I personally keep ROM Managers CWM as a Secondary one, more so, because one needs both 2.x and 3.x these days.
ROM Manager flashes 2.5.0.7 by default, although you can change it if you need to.
Hmm okay So I'll try and post if I succeeded
EDIT:
OK everything now worked fine THX for help!
EDIT2:
I was able to install CM 7 with 2.5.0.7!

Problem with Clockworkmod

Hi guys i hope that someone can help me!
I have a problem with ClockworkMod 3.2.0.0 because when I go into recovery from hboot ClockworkMod opens but when I select "install zip from sd card" only the background remains with the hat and I do not select the files in the sd.
Even when I select "power down" the phone is switched on and still remains on the screen with the hat.
How about pressing power button when on the hat icon and then pressing trackpad . Try them and you will know.

I had not thought!! Thanks very much mate!!
Hello guys!
I have exactly the opposite problem.
I rooted and s-off my phone following these instructions:
baert.ulyssis.be/ 2010/ 10/ 13/ wildpuzzle-rom-for-htc-wildfire/
(sorry for spaces, but the forum doesn't allow me to psot the link otherwise).
Then I installed SuperUser and then ROM Manager, in order to flash a new ROM. Then ROM-Manager "told" that my CWM Recovery 3.0.0.6 was incompatible or something like that and it should automatically download and flash Recovery 2.5.0.7. I allowed it to download the new Recovery and proceeded with installing my ROM (WildPuzzleROM_2.2.1 v0.8) successfully.
Every time I needed to access Recovery 2.5.0.7, I just open ROM-Manager and chose "Reboot into Recovery", and it always rebooted into Recovery 2.5.0.7. But today I tried to access Recovery by rebooting and holding down volume button. And it loaded Recovery 3.0.0.6. I turned off the phone, re-opened it, went to ROM-Manager and chose again "Reboot into Recovery" and it loaded Recovery 2.5.0.7.
So apparently my phone has two versions of Recovery. It loads version 3.0.0.6 when I reboot with the volume button and it loads version 2.5.0.7 through ROM-Manager. And I need ONLY Recovery 2.5.0.7, because the other version crashes (error message: "Amend Scripting is deprecated by Google in Cupcake...etc etc") every time I tried to flash new ROMs and I read somewhere in the forums that this happens because of the 3.x version of Recovery.
So here comes my question: How do I remove Recovery 3.0.0.6 and keep ONLY 2.5.0.7 ?
Thank you all very much, beforehand!
You can do so by using fastboot to manualy flash the old recovery using the command "fastboot flash recovery <path to recovery>recovery.img". If you do not now how to use fastboot, you have to search the forum a bit (can't give you any links as I'm using the xda app).
But for your problem: it is all normal. ROM Manager launches indeed some kind of temporary recovery, which is stored on your sdcard.
But you better rethink about downgrading your recovery: there is a reason why people we are now on v4 of clockworkmod some bugs are fixed (for example, now you can charge your phone when its off - isn't possible with any version of CWM lower then v3) and the menu is better, with more and handy options. The only reason why we keep using the old CWM is because of its ability to flash "old" zipfiles.
So in my opion, it is not worthet to downgrade CWM. You gain much more with the new one, and it is really no effort to flash your "old" zip files with the use of ROM Manager.

Obviously you were right on the part that I should actually upgrade my CWM Recovery instead of downgrading it. And the main reason for this, proved to be that my former version had a charging bug. If I charged the phone while switched off, it wouldn't switch on, unless I removed the battery.
Anyway, I followed your advise and flashed Clockwork 4.0.1.4.110720. But the charging problem was still there, so I tried several versions of CWM, till I finally found that for my case Clockworkmod Recovery v3.2.0.0 was the best option.

[Q] Problem with CWM 5.0.2.0 stable installation.

Actually, I got no place to post my question. So, I thought of starting a new thread.
I have installed CyanogenMod 7 on my HTC buzz by downgrading its stock rom as it suffered a OTA update before. I guess you guys r well aware about the process.
During the downgrade, my phone got Revolutionary CWM 4.x.x.x by default. In fact, I have flashed CM7 using revolutionary.
Now, CM7 comes with ROM Manager built-in and I tried to install CWM 5.0.2.0 recovery right form the GUI. The update.zip was downloaded. I could update it manually form my recovery options.
But, it was not stable. Each time I boot into recovery, Revolutionary CWM shows up, instead of CWM 5.0.2.0. To use it again, I have update the package each and every time.
Is is quite normal? Or, I am missing something? Plz help with advice.:crying:
I did this via Rom manager. Not through Recovery.

Yes this is normal for ROM manager as using ROM manager is only giving you a temp recovery over your stock ( in your case revolutionary cwm ) to get the cwm 5.0.2.0 you want you need to get either a PC49IMG.zip version of the cwm and use the boot loader method, use ADB/Fast boot method or use the terminal emulator method.
Tutorials are all over the wildfire thread and so are the necessary files etc.

That what u have to flash is temporary.
For permanent recovery, copy the recovery onto your pc.
Turn on the willy in hboot mode, goto fastboot connect usb
Type fastboot flash recovery name.zip
here name is the name of recovery zip AS IT IS.
