[Q] Oxygen rom question - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all. I've just rooted and s-offed my desire stock 2.2. using the revolutionary method and now I'd like to flash my first custom rom. I need a gingerbread based rom that'll give me speed and space for apps. I was thinking of oxygen because it seems quite simple to flash but now not so sure. Do I need to partition my sd card (16gb class 4) and/or do I need to change hboot to oxygen hboot ? Not really sure/confident enough to do this and would like to avoid it if possible. Would you guys recommend another rom that is even easier to flash, like redux, gingervillain, etc. Would be very happy if there's one rom (that would give me speed/space) that I just plonk the file to my sd card and flash it without having to tweak anything else. Not being lazy, just not confident yet, It only took a year to get the courage to finally root the phone . All advice greatly appreciated.

To get more space, you will always need to do something. Either change the partition layour of the NAND memory in the phone with a Hboot, or Partition your SD card. Simply flashing a ROM and nothing else will not give you more space.

Great answer, thanks, think I'll just partition the sd card through cwm. If I feel brave I might try installing oxygen hboot. One question, I already backed up my sd card to my computer, after I partition the sd card and go and transfer files back from computer to phone will the sd card appear on computer exactly the same as before (before partition) like external device (can't remember the exact word/name) or will it show different partitions. I'm just thinking ahead of where I should place the files from the computer to sd card after partition. Hope I explained it clearly.

You have to ensure that the ROM you want to flash fits in the Oxygen Hboot. You can easily flash new Hboots though.

I was the same as you and unsure about changing the hboot. However I took the plunge and did it using fastboot commander. It was really simple and took about 30 seconds. Now I have 174mb of used space and 113mb still free.

Right...I'm confused again. I read that cm7 r2 hboot is compatible with oxygen, redux, cm7. Am i correct to think that I can flash this hboot by downloading the file from alpharev site PBIMGcm7_r2 and simply rename it to PB99IMG.zip. then put it in sd card, turn phone on (holding volume down) press on option fastboot, then will be automatically asked if I want to install update and presto, new cm7hboot, also can I do this before flashing any rom, I'm still on stock but rooted/s-offed revolutionary method.

Correct. The reason is that Oxygen and Redux roms uses a smaller System partition space (100MB). CM7r2 hboot has a slightly bigger system partition (145MB) that is why Oxygen and Redux roms work because they fit. On Oxygen r2 hboot however, you wouldn't be able to flash CM7 rom simply because the System partition space required by the rom is larger.
If you are going to be flashing ROMs often, I would go with CM7r2 hboot since a lot of roms are compatible with this hboot.

Noob stuck after root! Help please!

Hey guys! Im totaly new to this and am not really sure that ive postet this in the right forum section, but i'll give it a go anyways!
I've rooted my Desire, and the tutorial i followed did ofcourse not mention that i really should grab a backup of the default rom, so i didnt back up.
I installed CyanogenMod, but i didnt like it (due to the fact that it doesnt have the sense widgets) so i tried to find a Sense Gingerbread rom to use, so i installed this:
RCMix S v2.0
That one worked rather horribly, or i can go so far tosay that it didnt work at all. My phone stucks all the time, and ive havent gotten past the htc setup yet.
So basicly what i need is someone to point me in the right direction, i need a good ROM that is like the original HTC Sense for Desire, but with gingerbread.
Can anyone help me?
Thanks,
Nymo.
If you want a ROM with SENSE, LeeDroid, of course !

Thanks, now i at least know which rom to use!
So ive red a little, and ive seen that something with radio and memorycard partitioning. What is this? Is there an tutorial for LeeDroid that goes through all the steps from a rooted phone?

RADIO
Is a software part of firmware (rom), this manage the phone network (3G/2G) for calls and internet connections. Each radio has features that make the consumer less appropriate according to the telephone operator (orange / vodafone / wind / plus), which uses a different frequency, if a particular radio set is better for some frequencies, for example -75 dBm and 19asu (drawer -> setting -> battery -> network) with certain radio I have a better battery performance compared to other operating frequencies higher. If you have «branded phones», you have at default better radio that «not branded phones» becouse ruu of «branded phone» have different radio of «stock ruu» for wwe.

Partitioning memorycard means partition your sd card. You can do this from recovery.
And next time use the search. Nearly all questions like these are already answered.
I was stuck at an airport for like 6 hours, so belive me ive searched alot.
Which one do i use, the LeeDrOiD A2SD++ Edition or the LeeDrOiD Data++ Edition??
EDIT: I have decided to postpone my change of ROM untill i recieve my 16gb memorycard. I Only have a lousy slow 2gb card atm.
stuck on pink light
i installed startburst froyo on my htc desire. but when i restart my phone for data2sd. it stuck on pink light. i wait around an hour but nothing happened. i create 2 partition before installing. 1st fat32(3gb) and ext4(1gb) both are primary. now what to do

Both versions have their dis-/advantages. Just try.
Rom
Well there is more to root to it. If you read carefully through the forum you will find everything there but I will try to sum it up here.
First you root. That gives you a lot more permissions on your phone ( like installing custom Rom's) but that is that. Your phone still has the stock (factory) hboot meaning that the space for the system and apps is not changed. This is probably what got you into trouble. You may have installed a Rom that is not compatible with the stock partition of the phone. What you now have to do is change this partition acording to the Rom you want to install. There are two options:
1. extend your phone's internal memory to the SD card ( there are guides on the forum on how to create a EXT3 partition on your SD) and go with a A2SD type Rom ( this type of Rom installs the apps to that EXT3 partytion on the SD card ). I chose this option and I would recomend LEEDroid or Insertcoin Rom's as they both have sense and work like a charm ( I prefer InsertCoin because with LeeDroid I have some issues as I reject some calls when I take the phone out of my pocket)
2. change the internal partition of your phone and instal a custom HBoot. For this you got to be S-OFF ( clear another type of security built in by HTC, this is higher than root) and you can find guides for that here. Then you can install a CM7 Rom
But you should take the first route if you are a begginer since is not as dangerous.
If nothing works for you, find a Stock Rooted Rom and install it. This won't cancel your root but you go back to the factory status of your phone. You can install anytime another custom rom, after you find out more.
Thanks guys!
So i should wait for my new memorycard, considered i just simply cant change the memcard beacuse the apps (and part of the os?) are stored there, or can i just copypasta them onto the new card, after ive created the partition on that card too?
Also, this radio thing. Do i have to figure this out before i install a new rom?
Oh, and btw: I Have decided to go with the A2SD++ version.

Hi.
You must flash the radio before flashing the new ROM, or there will be conflicts.
How To Flash Radio:
Code:
1. Go into recovery
2. Choose install zip from sd
3. Choose zip from sd
4. Confirm
5. Reboot
OR through fastboot command, if you know how to use it:
Code:
fastboot flash radio c:\radio.img
assuming radio.img is on C:

What about this thing?
Success!
Successfully flashed to LeeDroid AP2SD++ today, couldnt wait for my new memory card lol.
I had a lot of trouble with creating the EXT3 partition, i managed to create the partition with Minitool partition manager (something like that, cant remember the name), but it got the E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 error all the time.
What i did was just install Cyanogenmod and use ROM manager to create the partition. It only created a 512mb partition (1gb is recomended for leedroid) but it works fine.
The radio flashing went really smooth, no problems there!
Thanks for the help guys, much apreaciated!
Still, i havent gotten the answer bout the new memorycard thing. When i get the new memorycard, do i have to to a new installation? Or can i just backup the ext3 partition and copy it over to the new ext3 partition on the new card?

[Q] Desire space issue after CM update attempt

Hi Guys,
I am a newbie to rooting stuff so please excuse me if I did anything by error and please share an solution.
I have an rooted desire with S-off and CM 5.0.2.0 version long back.
I wanted to upgrade to the latest CM 7.x
So i downloaded cm 7.x .zip from google and flashed in as per the instructions(install zip from recovery)
After its installed , i took a restart of the phone, but the phone wont boot, it just stays in the joker face screen.
Have waited for more than 30 mins several times but no boot.
Removed the battery, went back to recovery and found its still CM5.x
Freaked out , I formatted my 16GB SD card with 13GB Fat and 2 GB for sd-ext and rest for linux swap for a new ROM installation which is Runnymede AIO 6.x
Installation was fine but Iam having issues with memory now which never happened before as I used several ROMs earlier.
As soon as I install few apps, low storage warning pops up.
Please tell me what needs to be done to rollback all my changes?
Hboot is 0.93.0001
Radio 32.56.00.32u_5.17.05.23
Kernel version is 2.6.35.10
First of all: Don't use swap. It will kill your sd-card quite fast and is not very useful (read here why).
Secondly: Did you change your partition table? Since the Desire provides very little internal space a alternative partition table is important.
Third: Did you make a Nandroid Backup?

Ok, I have removed the swap space now.
An alternate partion table?
I have taken a full backup(thru ROM manaher) before I did i upgrade atempt with CM7. Hence I was able to restore it back and work now, however, Im unable to flash any new roms as the space issue is again popping up.

He asked you if you have flashed custom hboot (alternate partition table).
To fix problem flash 4 ext recovery over fastboot (if you're s-off) and there you have an option to format all partitions except sd-card. Also reformat your sd-card using 4ext and use not more then 1,5GB for sd-ext.
And one more thing, don't use ROM manager it has a lot of bugs and can create a lot of problems, all the stuff you wanna do with it you can do straight from recovery.

A2SD with Cyanogen v10 rom

Greetings,
I've just given cyanogenmod10 a try, after 2 years of having the same 2.3 rom.
All is going well, but even after 'installing' a2sd, I only have 150mb of app space. Needless to say, after 5 apps, it's full.
Is this normal? I had tons and tons of apps with my previous rom.
Thanks in advance!
Install m2sd, and move dalvik to sd.
You should ext3/ext4 partition on sd card. The rom will use that for phone apps. Btw even after that you will still see internal ram as 147m, but don't worry a2sd will use ext partition for apps and you can install many apps without any issue of memory.
Same rom working great for me
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda premium
Thanks for the replies!
I'm a bit stuck now as there is no rom installed on my phone and my sd card is empty. But I'll put a rom on my sd card tonight with another phone so I should be ok for that.
My problem still remains though.
I can't get a 1gb partition. I have tried external methods with my pc: partition wizard, easeus partition and those 2 can indeed partition my sd card, but when I unplug the usb cable, my phone says the card is damaged and needs to do a full format. After that my partition is gone.
The other method I used was to get s-off, so I could get the recovery of 4EXT. I tried to switch s-off with revoked, but I couldn't use that as my hboot is 0.80.x.x. So I had to try with alpharev (I used both cd and usb) but it was stuck at the 3rd step, I left the process running for 5 hours and there was nothing changed.
So here I am, clueless about what to do because if I can't get a partition I can't get a2sd and if I can't get that I can only install 2 programs, which is quite rediculous.
Please, what is there left for me to do?
edit: I'm going to put a 2.2 froyo rom on it and see if I can try again with alpharev. I read somewhere alpharev isn't always working with certain roms.
Update: flashing a froyo 2.2 rom before letting alpharev run did the trick, my phone is now s-off. Going to try to get my full sd card back as I seem to be missing 500 mb.
Update 2: with 4EXT i could format my hidden ext partition and make a new one of 1gb. After that the a2sd worked!
So problem solved, thanks for reading!

[Q]Freezing system. How to instal CM7r2 ROM with all apps in the phone and no sd-ext

Hi,
I cannot find an answer for my problem. I have rooted Desire. I have installed 10 different ROMs on 2 different sd cards and my phone is regularly freezing at least twice per day. Phone dos not answer for calls, screen is black and I cannot switch it on, I have to remove battery. It happens that it freezes 5 or more times per day. It is really annoying. I have no idea why it happens. Freezing is wierd because the screen is black and not responsive but e.g. radio is still playing. First I thought it is ROM's fault so installed few of them. Then I changed sd card but this also didn't help. I think the problem may be in storing apps in sd card because if there is no apps installed the phone is working fine.
Please correct me if I am wrong. Is it possible to install custom Sense ROM on e.g. CM7r2 so there is more space for apps but without sd-ext partition? I have tried to do it with one custom ROM but it did not even start. So how to remove/disable/switch off app2sd, data2sd or int2sd from custom ROMs? Or is there a CM7r2 ROM that is not using sd card for apps storing? I don't want to return to stock hboot and stock system because then I have too little space for apps (147M) but with CM7r2 hboot (287M) should be enough.
I am not sure if my thinking is correct, I will appreciate any help. Maybe there is another solution for freezing system problem?
Piotr
My phone now:
Recovery: 4ext
S-Off, CM7r2
Radio: 5.17.05.23
hboot 6.93.1002
Card: 8GB class 10
You may be having a faulty sd-ext partition. How did you partition your sd-card?
Any AOSP GB rok should fit in the cm7r2 hboot. Just delete a2sd scripts from the system>etc>init.d folder, and you shouldn't have problems.

Thanks. I partitioned sd card using linux, alligment is checked. Should i partition it using 4ext recovery? does INT2SD has scripts in the same folder? if I remove sd-ext partition totaly will android still work?
Roms with int2sd won't work without an ext partition.
And yes, follow the guide in my sig for a correct partition.
It works now!
Before I was always using Sense ROMs and all of them were freezing on my phone. I have done sd card partitioning again using your guide and I have installed system you use MildWild.Since I installed it I didn't have any problems! Thank you very much. I don't know if it is partitioning or new system that helped but most important is that works fast and stable for 2 days now with all my apps installed!
This is great I don't remember when was the last time my phone was working for 2 days in a row without freezing and taking battery off! So much better now
Thanks!!
No problem.
Installing CM7/r2 HBOOT
This is actually realy simple,
Before you do anything, Backup everything PLEASE.
This will erase your current rom, so you have to install it again.
go to alpharev.nl and scroll down till you see Bravo CM7 r2. Click on Download. Not the regular Download,
But the download after that. it's called : PB99IMG_cm7r2. Download that, and remove the _cm7r2 text. So
that the file is named PB99IMG.
Put your SD Card into your computer, and take this file ( PB99IMG) onto your SD card.Boot into the bootloader, ( By pressing Volume down + Power ) and wait. it will say something like : '' Would you like to update? '' Volume up for ''yes'' Volume down for ''no'' .
do ''yes'' . After that , it will ask you to reboot. You want to do that.
After that, i faced the problem that 4EXT Recovery didn't work. Solution: Go again into bootloader, and select clear storage.

can someone explain HBOOT differences and partitions please

Hi I've downgraded HBOOT to s-off (also giving new HBOOT), flashed new HBOOT compatible with all roms and flashed roms o plenty on my desire s (saga) but my desire (bravo) has been a little more complicated to say the least!
The roms for the desire 1 all go on about having xxx Mb HBOOT and all the various partition sizes needed, nether of these seem to apply on the desire s and dispute having read guides over and over, I cant seem to get the partitions right (1.5mb main mem left after clean rom flash) im wondering if its to do with the hboot instead.
Before AND after partitioning the device, the gingerbread rom iused to get from hboot 1.03 to one compatible with revolutionary works fine, I am currently on the HBOOT version revolutionary planted on the phone ( HBOOT-6.93.1002, RADIO-5.17.05.23 )
The custom rom I tried booted a couple of times but as I said, with only 1.5mb of mem left and lagged like a Pentium 4 pc trying to play battlefield 4 lol.
That rom has not booted since but restoring via recovery to the gingerbread rom, all works fine.
The custom rom I installed was omni-4.4.2-20140518-bravo-homemade, i want to try others but this was just a starting ground.
Please can someone point me in the right direction, as i said, I've followed guides for partitioning the SD card and I've gone wrong somewhere and can't figure out what.
Thanks Steve.

How much size partition have u made?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Free mobile app
So the initial 'hboots' you have been seeing are merely version numbers relating to official ROMs
e.g.
0.93 is for a Froyo ROM
1.02 is for the Gingerbread ROM
1.03 is HTC dev unlocked ROM I believe
Your version number now doesn't really mean much, but the fact that you are S-OFF now means you can change your hboot. When custom ROMs refer to hboots in this sense, they are merely talking about your internal nand partition sizes.
So going back to before you gained s-off, you were on stock hboot, with the following sizes:
250MB /system
40MB /cache
147MB /data
You are still technically on stock hboot, so your sizes internal nand memory still looks like this. The /data partition is your internal memory, which as you can see is tiny.
S-OFF gained the ability to change your hboot if you so wish. You can find the different hboot partition tables at alpharev.nl. You can flash a different hboot with both smaller /system and /cache sizes, hence much larger /data (internal memory) using fastboot. More /data = more internal memory = more space for apps :good:
You need to flash a compatible custom ROM with a /system size just smaller than the corresponding hboot to optimise your space.
So for instance, cm7r2 hboot has a /system size of 145MB. You need to flash a ROM with say a 140MB extracted system size to fit (it will usually just say in the first post).
Some ROMs will still only fit into stock hboot, but you can still gain space by A2SD whereby apps are moved to the sd-ext partition. You may have to manually activate it, instructions are normally given in each ROM thread.
You also need a correctly partitioned sd card (using 4EXT recovery or gparted only) along with the custom ROM to optimise app space. Which guide did you use? And how big is your partition?

You should have made atleast 1gb partition because them apps will fill up quickly and there's no need for a swap partition.

I think it must be the hboot that's the issue but can't look into it properly yet
Thanks again and I will report back

Steve.
re formatted the sd card how advised to, flashed rom and nothing, re wiped, installed the hboot sugeseted on the roms page but still nothing, just stuck on the htc splash.
Installed a ics rom and everything is working great, the other has issues with this phone lol
Which method did you use to partition, 4ext recovery or gparted?
Stock hboot or the Alpha Jelly hboot will work, as both have 250MB /system size. Are you using fastboot to flash them?
How are you performing the wipe before installation? 'wipe all partitions except sdcard' option within 4ext should be sufficient.

yes im using the PB99IMG method for flashing them, I partitioned using 4EXT.
I realised stock shouldent be a problem by the numbers explained to me but thought it couldent do any harm to flash a specific hboot reccomended by the rom cheff, it also slightly changed the install process for some reason if you were running a hboot other than it so I shought in the name of compatibility I would give it a try but nope lol, HTC slash screen again ha ha.
I will try another 4.4 rom to see what happen but it is a little strange as it did boot and run poorly before
All the help I have had on thhis topic has been great and has really helped me, I hope someone else who is confused see this and is helpers also

You may have corrupted the ROM.zip download. Try again, and verify the md5 sum if it has one.
You may need to activate a2sd first then flash the gapps package straight after, check instructions
Like you said, if that still doesn't work, get any ROM booting as a first step (along with corresponding hboot beforehand if you want to optimise space).
