[Q] Flashing procedure - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

When I had my Vibrant, it was always recommended to ODIN back to a completely stock image before flashing a new rom, in order to avoid any complications.
In the the E4GT dev forum, this seems to be a non issue. The directions are always "do a full wipe, flash rom". Why would this be?

Flashing a ROM

I am new to the whole android seen and I am having trouble figuring out how to flash a rom. I want to put http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1527041 this rom on my epic 4g and currently have calkulins stock rooted fb17 rom installed. can anyone tell me how to flash it or point me in the right direction of some instructions. My last smartphone was a htc touch pro, things were a lot easier back in the winmo days.
Recommended Steps
Do you have CWM installed already?
Either way:
1) Use ODIN to flash a Gingerbread ROM such as EL26.
1a) If you don't have CWM installed you'll want to flash it now. This can also be done by ODIN. If you have installed, simply go to recovery after reboot.
2) Flash the ROM you specified.
You can find more on how to do this safely in the following link:
How Not To Brick Your E4GT
If I may make a suggestion: You said you are new to Android. You may want to just stay with ODIN tars for now, at least you become a little more familiar and comfortable with the phone. There is a FC07+Rooted .tar file for ODIN if you would rather try that instead. If you choose to go with a rom that packs CWM please make sure you read that link so you at least are aware of what is going on and how to try and minimize your risk.
Good luck!

Can someone link me to an EXACT step by step for fixing GPS in ics roms?

I know that you are supposed to "restore a gingerbread ROM with working GPS" then there is all the details about leaving gps turned on, then flashing an ICS recovery to flash back to an ICS ROM but even to an experienced flasher like myself, this method has never been crystal clear. I've been reading and reading and reading and heard so much stuff about bricking by mixing ICS ROMs and Gingerbread recoveries and vice versa and I am yet to see a painfully explicit step by step process for this laid out. I am currently on mijjah's blend ics ROM and have no GB nand backup, so should I Odin stock EL29 and go from there? I'm not stupid just frustrated that I am yet to find a clear way to get GPS working with ICS.
I am planning on starting from scratch (full factory reset/data wipe) if that helps.
Thanks in advance.
1. Odin to an EL29 ROM preferably one with CWM
2. Get GPS Lock
3. Turn Off Phone
4. Boot into Recovery
5. Wipe as always
6. Flash your ICS ROM of choice
Enjoy!

Samsung Galaxy GT-I5510M One to One copy? odin?

I'll try to make this as short as possible.
Basically, I have the I5510M, and flashed it from the stock Froyo rom to a gingerbread rom for the wrong region. Now it won't flash the original rom. Assumingly because of something that was changed in the bootloader or some other thing.
If I try to flash it, the device won't boot.
So I managed to get my hands on another identical device - I'm wondering if its possible to backup literally everything about the phone into some form Odin flashable thing.
I mean -everything-, the radio, the bootloader, the system, etc. A simple nandroid backup won't work, because it doesn't include things such as the radio.
Unfortunately the only CWM recovery rom available for the device only works with gingerbread. I've tried flashing it to the new phone on the froyo rom, and it simply won't work. I had to flash the stock recovery back onto it with odin.

[Q] Beginners quest to flashing roms

Hi all. New to android and I'm coming from Windows. There's just so much source material to read over with varying methods. I need a few clarifications before I begin flashing.
I just recently unlocked my T989 I receive from a friend so that I could use it on AT&T and that put me on 4.0.3 ICS with UVLE1 Radio band. I've rooted using TWRP 2.7. That's what I've done so far.
I want to go from my current ICS to one of the 4.4.4 Paranoid or Beanstalk roms in the Android Dev subforum.Do I need to flash to the latest t-mobile Radio band first? I'm assuming the install guides from Para/Bean's thread just don't mention it because it's an obvious prerequisite? Are there any other steps I should be taking before flashing to the roms other than the Radio?
I just wasn't positive I could go straight from 4.0 to 4.4 without doing something in between.
Do a nandroid first, to fall back on.....and go for it!
First make sure you have the recommended recovery.
Nandroid backup in custom recovery.
Wipe system, data, cache and dalvik cache.
Flash radio, then rom , then gapps. Done. ?
Thanks a ton, KJ. Your advice was invaluable. Decided to run Paranoid and it's sexy as fuark.
One thing to note for anyone else who ends up in my predicament. After installing the rom and gapps and booting it for the first time. Turn the phone off and head back into CWM/TWRP and do another factory reset if your WIFI doesn't work. I couldn't even get the WIFI to turn on. A google search on the issue made me think I fried the WIFI chip since that seemed to be a common issue with the S2, but a factory reset in recovery fixed it.

Going from stock to stock (basically just wiping) while on CWM recovery

I'm already on the stock KK ROM (E98020g)., but with the CWM recovery. I just want to wipe everything while keeping the stock ROM, but I've seen that factory resetting or flashing stock ROMs while on a custom recovery will probably cause a some sort of brick...
I've already briefly seen the pinned stock ROM tutorial already. Before I try that (assuming it still works), can anyone tell me if there's a simpler way? It's going to take me a long time to go through that entire thread so it would be an immense help if someone could just tell me.
Have you try using system setting, storage, hard reset?

That's what I meant by "factory reset", sorry. Everything I've read indicates that this will cause a softbrick, which I'm trying to avoid. Is this info wrong?
I assume the reason that you install cwm and running the stock ROM is so you can have a nandroid backup? Otherwise Why else would you installed a custom recovery? So backup the ROM and do the factory reset with kk instead of cwm, which may be the reason that some people are getting the soft bricks. I can't guarantee you that everything will be according to the plan, but that's the reason backup function is there.
I originally installed CWM because I wanted to wipe and try out a custom ROM (probably CM). But then I noticed all the serious issues people were having with various custom ROMs, so I decided to skip the custom rom (for now) and just get on with wiping. I really don't want to risk any type of brick with this device.
Anyway, I think I'm going to try out the pinned stock rom thread I mentioned in the OP.
