Please help! Cable disconnected during ODIN - hard brick?? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I was in process of rooting Epic 4G touch in ODIN and the cable got disconnected. I don't think "Re-partition" flag was on but I may be wrong.
Phone is completely dead. Only blue light blinks while trying to turn on.
I mean - there is no recovery/CWM/not even download mode. ;(
Can anything be done?

Do you have a jig?
Got boost?

I don't.
Will this work http://www.amazon.com/SainSmart-Don...=dp_return_2?ie=UTF8&n=2335752011&s=wireless?
Also, haven't heard of boost.
Will above work with broken partitions?

That was just his signature ... Got boost?

Home made jig does not help. Apparently, if the screen does not even turn on nothing can be done.
First time in 10 years I brick a phone to point of no return!
Now lets try if TEP works...

try removing battery from phone , place battery back in phone , put it on the charger for about an hour see if you than get into odin mode again

Let me know what you end up doing.
Samsung Epic 4g Touch - Calkulin's v1.1

My only option was jtag service. He charged me 30 bucks. I renamed the wrong file and flashed i9000 firmware on my phone (smh.), thought it was a goner.
in my experience, if you can't get into download mode, force your phone into download mode with a jig, or get into recovery, send it off for repair.
I sent it to the guys at mobiletechvideos.com

By the way, what happens when you try and enter download mode?

[Q] Unable to Odin/CWM restore

I have had my Epic for few months now, and have yet to encounter this error. Today both my parents decided to buy the Epic's (woot 3 epics in the house), and so I go and try to Root it for them. I go to the first one, and put CWM 3.1.0.1 on it. Everything goes fine, I reboot into CWM, everything dandy, shutdown and go into download mode (Hold 1 then press power button), done this many times. But here came the problem. Odin has failed during the flash and now the phone shows (Phone ---- ! ---- Computer) display when I try to boot it up or try to go into CWM. So I have tried Odin again with download mode, I did get the yellow download screen, but Odin keeps failing. I have tried different USB ports/cables. Different pit files and modems, including EB13, EC05 and EH06. And I am sure the files work, as I have just tried the second phone, and everything went fine. ... So yeah... uh... Attached are two screenies.
This is my Odin Print out
And this is the screen I get
NVM, got it to work using this :

There is still hope. Take out the battery and hold the power button for 30 seconds. Leave the battery out and plug the USB into the computer and then hold the "1" key on the keyboard and then press and hold the power button. It should get you back into download mode.

Thank you for that post. Kids loaded some stuff on my notebook and it froze during Odin. Just happened to happen on this thread and Viola. Download mode accessed, Odin fixing.
I was about to go to Sprint today.
I love XDA.

I think that is caused by whether your computer has a powered or non-powered USB port.
no, because I have Odined 2 other Epics on the exactly same cable and same USB port, so it has nothing to do with that. It was truly just the battery.

Did you try swapping the battery from the other Epic and see if it truly is interfering somehow?

You should first check to make sure you are flashing the right kernel and platform. Then check that they are in the correct places in odin. Make sure phone is in odin mode. (volume up + power button on boot.) If that doesn't work try taking the battery out and putting it back in the phone and flasing it with odin again. There is a eko2 automatic odin tool you can try also...
Hope this helps.

If it will not do anything that is called a hard brick. Might want to go to your local sprint store.
Sorry for being so blunt.

During ODIN modem flash, pc froze and rebooted, now I just get a blue status light

OK my PC froze and rebooted in the ODIN modem flash process. Now my phone only has a solid blue light in the top right corner (status light)
I can't get to odin download mode, or android recovery.
Any help here?
do you have a usb jig to force it into download mode? sorry to say man but you might be bricked. try taking out your battery and push the power button and hold with battery out for like 10 minutes. leave the battery out for another 20. hook it up to your computer with no battery try to put it in download mode again. if that doesn't work you may need a jtag as its more than likely hard bricked.
usb jig?
I will try those right now.
Thank you very much for your info

Unplug your phone and remove the battery, put the battery back in, try to put it back in download mode. If that doesn't work you will have to take it to sprint and hope they exchange it, I think I answered this question earlier today.

I've tried pulling the battery. Same thing, just blue light.
It has a bad ESN, can't go back to sprint. Samsung maybe...
I found the jig you were talking about, I bought one on ebay. Fingers crossed that'll work for me.
ya you might need to have it jtag. good luck man hope you don't need to do that man
jtag?
What's that?
Essentially it means pay somebody with special equipment to flash your phone. It is a hardware-level connection used to flash but often isn't exported in a nice easy to use interface once a device goes into production.

Is it dead?

Hi all,
I tried updating my galaxy s2 with ICS with Odin, but it failed. Now i get nothing but this message: "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again."
The problem is that neither Kies or Odin will recognize the phone. It will not go into download mode using the traditional method of holding volume down + power. My PC also does not detect the phone.
Is it dead?! I've tried reading, but no one seems to have absolutely no access to their phone. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
As always, uninstall kies then install it again. If you did flash stock ics and you have sd card, put siyah kernel ( as I think it is signed) and almost any rom there, put sd card to phone and try to boot into recovery ( power+home+ vol up) then install siyah, reboot and hold same keys and install the rom you downloaded

Mak: Thanks for the suggestions.
I uninstalled and then installed Kies. Neither Kies nor my PC detects the phone. I tried another computer and do not get detection there either.
I cannot get into recovery (volume up + power + home) or into download (vol down + pwr).
I do not have an SD card, unfortunately.
What else can I try?!
Then you need jig to get your phone working again.

hi
do you used intratech firmwares or from other sources?
so i realized that I tried to flash the wrong fw. my phone is the epic 4g touch for sprint. i tried to put ics on there.
how likely is it that the jig will work? i will order it if it is meant to address the problem i'm having. even with the jig putting my phone into download mode, how can i load anything if my computer will not recognize the phone?
i might have just bricked the phone. how likely is it that the sprint store will try to fix it for me?
Wrong forum. Ask here.
If they notice what you did to it, you'll be paying for it to be fixed. Maybe. You might also be lucky. Jig won't work, nand is borked. Return to service center or JTAG repair.
I think you're right. I'll try to get lucky at the sprint store tomorrow. If no luck, then on to a JTAG'er (any recommendations?).
The link you posted is for epic 4g, not epic 4g touch. I know, confusing. Probably why I'm having this issue to begin with.
Thanks again for the help!
Odia does jtag's and he seems to be pretty good at it
Sent from my sgs2 running cm9 using xda app
Yep Makrilli is right, Odia is a good choice. Or these guys. Haven't used them, but people on XDA have.
I got this message before, too. It happened when I plugged in to the bad cord I had. Odin recognized it until it was in the middle of flashing. Are you sure it won't go back to Odin? Mine did. I'm using it now. I don't think a jtag is what you need, unless you want to give them a really easy one? Good luck!
I had a similar issue, but kernel(rogue touch kernel) had a bad flash. It would play the boot animation and shut off. I couldn't get into CWM or download mode(they both did boot animation and shut off). I let it sit for two hours(at work and could only try on break). On my second break I repeatedly try download mode and after about 20 tries it opened up download mode. Good luck

Thanks for the suggestions on Jtag'ers.
Kill and Atticus: I tried repeatedly to put it into download or recovery mode. It just won't do it. And even if it did, my PC doesn't detect the phone at all. So it would be useless to have the phone in download or recovery modes anyways. The phone won't even charge while connect to the PC.
I haven't made my way out to Sprint yet, but will be doing so in a few hours. I'm betting they're going to send me home with my tail between my legs. I'll then check with Amazon to see if there's some kind of manufacturer's warranty I can take advantage of. Then, Jtag as a last resort.
If anyone has any suggestions, please share. Thanks!
OK. I talked with a Samsung technician (my phone is still in warranty) who said that the phone is acting up. He sent me a UPS label to ship it to Samsung for free repair or replacement. They said it'll take about a week. Hopefully they don't say it's my fault and refuse to repair it. Hope I get lucky.

MTV Jig is Here!!! And I haz questions...

Got my MTV jig today...I'm charging the battery to my bricked SG3 at the moment in an external charger to make sure it has enough juice to get the job done. The MTV site said this jig will work on ALL SG's 2 and 3 so I guess this will be the ultimate test since I'm reading different things everywhere. Now for my question(s), am I supposed to be able to just plug the jig in, do the key combo for download mode and then the magic happens immediately? I also need to get a stock rom, not the one with root injected because I was reading the instructions on how to install the root injected rom and it says Odin needs to do the install for it. I dont see how that'll happen in my phone's current state (hard bricked). Say the jig works and download mode pops up, will it continue popping up on its own like if I were to plug into the pc? Sorry, just slightly confused
If you're hard bricked a jig won't work for that. You would need to get a JTAG service to fix a hard brick. But. If its not hard bricked then all you need to do is plug the jig in and your device will automatically go into download mode. Then from there you can use odin to flash a stock ROM and you'll be up and running again.

...please tell me you're joking....
I thought the jig was to bypass whatever is causing the phone not to boot allowing you to at least get into download mode or recovery....I have a feeling I'm gonna puke now. It's definitely hard bricked. I accidentally loaded an i9300 rom on my i747...completely dead to the world.

A jig is only useful for a soft brick as task has said, hard brick needs a jtag repair.

To use the jig, just plug it in. No key combo needed
Well my phone is definitely hard bricked...AT&T won't exchange my phone because I transferred tmy service to another carrier a month ago...the other carrier is run by a bunch of asshats giving me the run around...SO...I'm gonna try a Samsung warranty exchange. I can't afford a JTAG right now since I'm not working...FML.../end
