Curious... Once we get the Ice Cream Sandwich update, does it mean that everyone gets updates at the same time just like other operating systems?
Will the capacitive buttons be omitted due Ice Cream Sandwich layout?
Thanks in advance.
The official ics update will be in increments when it gets sent out to us. That way any issues that arise can be dealt with. The capacitive buttons will still work and google has made it so that we will not have onscreen navigation buttons if it detects the presence of capacitive buttons.

I worry sometimes that at the rate new phones come out, developers will be overworked to death. Sure hope ICS will be the "cure all" to all this fragmentation thing...
Good to hear that my capacitive buttons will still work. Thanks again.
ICS will mean a whole bunch of people whining about how slow Samsung is with getting updates out, and when the update comes out, they still have the same phone they started with.

Do we have confirmation of this behavior? will the on screen nav buttons disappear if the ics install detects capacitive buttons? I was told the determination of wether or not the on screen nav buttons show up had to do with the resolution of the device. anybody have the final word?

I have the ICS+ launcher and it works great

Does the "Long-Press Home" feature not work in your Rom?

I use "long-press home" second to only the search button, probably.

Ok, I guess I'm dense: I've used ICS for a bit on this device with a couple of the international betas. I've also used the ICS launcher from TeamSyndicate or whatever...
Please lmk what is so groundbreaking and so different in the way ICS handles taskswitching..
If I remember correctly (and I easily might NOT be remembering this right), all ICS does is present your recent apps in a nicer, larger, vertical list after pressing the button for it once instead of the way Gingerbread handles it (presenting them in a grid after long-pressing home).
If there's more to it, please let me know.
If there's not, then you basically started a thread that's complaining about the fact that you have to long-press a button right now, and that you really can't wait until you only have to simply press a button, because that would make your life so much easier.
Did I miss something?

Yup pretty much. Also there arr settting. In launchers that can enable. Up to 16apps or something to be listed in that menu. Same thing, just a few more appz and it looks slightly different. How ever ICS does ring lots of new things in a ALL IN ONE download that plays nicelu with each other. Before you would have to flash several things and spe. D some serious time changing settings to get what ICS already offers which in its self is awesome. Especially for people who have a line and cant always takr the time to flash tons of things and config the more mods everytime a rom requires you to wipe data which gets old really damn quick in my book. Maybe im just getting older or i have owned android too long but i dont like re setting my phone back up. I didnt use to mind it and now i dread it. Atleast even when switxhing between different roms on samsung for the most part you never need to wipe data. In that respect compared to HTC i find Samsung much better and that makes the device worth it right there. With HTC you would loose everything all the time when flashing new roms or even updates. Not to mention you would loose things like your WiMax key's and have to get a nee device just to use Sprints ****ty 4g agan.... Hahaa ok ok its not that funny, more sad about HTC but laughing is how i cope with terrible old memoryz

Im very proud of the challanges i have over come to the extent i have over come them. I have accomplished several things that teachers said i wouldnt be able to do. Things like reading and writing well enough to get through the basics of life. Even if it were really ICS, Samsung would have whored it out by adding Touchwiz. (Ahh, who am I kidding, I'd still hit that.)
Wonder what it is they are actually looking to fix with these updates still for gingerbread.
Any noticable differences yet? The only thing Samsung needs to fix on GB is the wallpaper bugs and the unfinished answer call page. Other than that, their GB build is pretty much flawless.

That turned me off too. I'm not sure I'd call it unfinished, but I thought it just looked out of place, the design just didn't seem jive with any other screens. I mean, you drag an empty circle to answer, but then you hit a solid square button to hang up.

They're trying to bring their ICS elements to GB it seems. The answer screen would make more sense of they changed the lockscreen to the new lockscreen from the GSII ICS leak.

Lol that's my video
Guys this bug is fixed in 4.0.4, or at least AOKP. I haven't had it since AOKP build 29.
I have been waiting until 4.0.4 became a Verizon OTA update, to update my video that it's fixed.
I have played a bunch of Shadowgun and Pew Pew and never saw this again. I'm confident it's fixed.
Maybe it is indeed fixed in 4.0.4 as I can't remember seeing it in some time.
(AOKP as well).
I had it I think a total of two times...
But for me turning the screen off only provided relief for 10-15 seconds.
I had to reboot.
I had actually forgotten about the bug...
And tried to replicate again with three multi-touch games back-to-back and two multi-touch testing apps back to back...
No problems.
Lucker! Im still having this with gummynex 4.0.4, franco and glados tested... :/

Who said anything about insurance? I'm very good friends with the store manager. He always performs a device exchange as long as it hasnt had water damage. And no, I'm pretty sure the issues I'm having are real as pressing the power button and having the unlock screen process done but captive buttons not work for 5 seconds or more, isn't a bad flash. Even on shubs one click to FF18.
Btw check list done.... settings are always left stock. Phone seems okay unless I can surgicly open it to check on internals lol... ! Yes I'm okay myself.other than my messed up fist from a drunk fist fight.
I've had the same issue with most ICS E4GT roms, and doubt it is anything user related. Don't pay attention to the trolls. I've fully wiped my phone and it made no difference. Hopefully someone can figure it out. It's pretty annoying having to turn the screen on a off twice to get the capacitive buttons working.

You can if you use the latest agat kernel built from source but remember not all developers have built in the new safe kernel! So you would always have to odin the kernel if it isnt baked with the ROM.
For reference, here is the link to source built kernel.

Ok heres my input. I believe that its a combination of software and hardware. Remember response time of soft buttons depends on how stable the rom is and also whats running at the time they where pressed. Ok say like you have a few apps it the background running and you turn off your screen. Once the screen come on the buttons may take a second to come on because the screen has more of a priorty than the soft button. Its all in how you look at it. And with apps running it slows that process down greatly because a combination of the proccesor and ram being used. Remember not notice but our soft buttons have a back light and they are press sensitive. So with them working together plus all the other stuff i explained timing would be off. But think about it. Lol is it really a depressing ordeal lol. I actually witness it and continue on without even thinking about it. Sorry for rambling lol
