[Bada 2.0] Java : missing options (fit to screen & virtual keyboard) - Bada Software and Hacking General

Having looked around in Bada 2.0 (XPKJ1) it appears that Samsung still haven't fixed the Java settings. The "virtual keyboard" and "fit to screen" options appear to have been left out.
Also playing with the .jad doesn't appear to have any effect.
Does anyone have any ideas ?

waiting for the final...

you're probably right. IMHO the firmware is very stable - from what i've seen everything works apart from the java settings. They even got the GPS stuff correct this time (a bloody miracle :-0..... <- dribbling in shock! )

Some Java apps lags a lot
I figured this out by testing some apps
Samsung has messed with a lot of stuff to bada 2.0 i don't understand until now why!!!!
Maybe our beta is far from being complete
Best Regards

although settimgs are not available but i can resize opera mini 6.5 and able to hide keyboard. Currently i am posting from dolphin when i will come ol via PC i will share mine screen shots. the only thing i could not do was removing setting.bin file as they reappear everry time i delete them so they ask for permission evey time i open the app.

Guys use this PC app to make java apps better for Wave
Place Jar file in Jars folder
Run Start.bat as admin and follow instructions
Copy Jar file to phone and install it
This will remove the virtual keypad & make it work in the background & work in portrait or landscape
Best Regards

It doesn't work for me mylove90 :-(....
Cheers for trying but I think we need to trouble Samsung with this problem.
The phone tells java apps that the screen res is 240x320 and the touch coordinates are borked as well.

No, it's the java apps. I have HD java apps (for example Foliant reader, Angry Birds) which run in 800x480 full screen...

change .jar to .rar
go to META-INF
open MANIFEST.MF
use below codes to remove virtual kaypad and also have 480*800 java apps
MIDlet-Scaleup-Support: False
LGE-MIDlet-Width: 480
LGE-MIDlet-Height: 800
MIDlet-Touch-Support: True
save the file

Anyone running Opera Mini?

Hi I was thinking of switching from Omnia to TP2 and use Opera Mini all the time due to its speed. Had anyone tested it on the TP2, wondering if the different screen res makes it differcult to read due to size or should it be better.
I just installed it in JBlend. The legibility is OK, although the default font size is a little small. The main problem is that opening or closing the keyboard requires you to restart JBlend, which is a royal pain in the neck as I often want to switch between landscape and portrait mode when I'm browsing.
This problem seems to exist with all JBlend apps.
Install JBed, works like a champ. Will thoroughly recommend it. Much better than JBlend.
On Jbed what is the font size like?
Are there no problems with keyboard as described with jblend?
I just installed the latest JBed and OperaMini now loads fine. The font is pretty small, but readable (by me, at least).
Does anyone know how to create a direct menu shortcut to a specific JBed application (e.g. OperaMini, GoogleMail, etc)? (i.e. without having to launch Jbed then select the app you want to launch). I'd also like to assign a different icon to each application, so that I can tell them apart purely from the icon.
Sorry for the obvious question: JBed? JBlend?
Are these some sort of Java runtimes that one must install on a WinMo device?
There's no Java ME edition in WinMO 6.1 by default?
I don't get why you wouldn't just use opera mobile which comes with it
Because until Opera Mobile 9.7 with Turbo ships, mini opera is several times faster with proper settings.
For the past 3 years I've used almost nothing but Opera Mini myself, instead of the full fledged browsers available (I have bought Opera Mobile as well and a Webkit browser).
It's just so much faster due to Turbo caching and fits my needs.
I suspect many others are in the same boat.

Thanks for the link.
So....following the instructions for jbed...I created a text file on the PC containing only the following line:
"\windows\jbed.exe -run s0_"
(with the quotes included). I copied this file to the TP2 and renamed it "OperaMini.lnk". When I run the renamed file it doesn't know how to handle it - I get the "Open with..." dialog.
Can anyone advise what I'm doing wrong??
itm,
I believe what you need to do, is create the shortcut file on your TP2 using a file explorer other than the stock WM one (at least on my Uni, it is not capable of creating shortcuts). I think you can either use the inbuilt function of the file explorer (i.e. paste shortcut or something like that) or create a file and change the file extension to .lnk (as you have done) Once the new shortcut file is created, you need to access the "properties" box of that file and in the box where it says something like "go to" or "link" you will need to paste "\windows\jbed.exe -run s0_" (with the quotes). You then save the change and should hopefully be ready to roll...
Appologies for the vague explanation, but left my Uni at home today, so can't physically go through the process on an actual WM device atm.
If you're still stuck after reading this, PM me and I'll try and walk you through once I'm home.

JavaFX for Windows Mobile Available

"The other day Java made a version of JavaFX available for download for Windows Mobile Phone devices. JavaFX is intended to bring more rich media content to phones and since JavaFX can be cross platform (PC, Mac, BlackBerry…everything except the iPhone since Apple may never approve of it) developers can make applications one time and they can run on these platforms natively. Windows is the first mobile platform to have a release of JavaFX. The package contains 4 demos. A Twitter client, a simple calculator, a photo viewer and a little application where your finger makes a ripple and the fish follows it.
So for the first time developer’s can start to work on developing JavaFX applications and have a real mobile testing platform. Of course you can run any other Java app through this as well (I tested it with Google Maps java and it ran fine). The download and additional release notes are located here."

(if only bt work with that too...you know what i mean ..).
upd: hmm it can be SLOW as hell and seems to be typical vga soft, although it handles launched application resolutions quite well(320x240 is 320x240)..

Hmm, I don't know. JavaFX is much, much, much slower with Opera Mini on my Touch Pro than jbed. The font seems a little nicer, though. I think it uses antialiasing.
Interesting app.
Worked fine but....
Could not install file from memory, only by internet, that worked.
Installed Gmail as test. Continuallyl, said there was no internet connection with Wifi and Active sync.
After fiddling with it. I decided to remove JavaFx. After that many strange things happened.
Had to hard reset. :-(

I have removed JavaFX, too, but everything went fine, no hard reset needed. WM6.1, too.
It works on a Touch HD. But for some reason, its slow. Esp. the fish app.
How is the Twitter App? Just asking as I tend to shy away from java apps on my device because I never really had much success with them running properly.
I'm now running Opera Mini in JavaFX rather than JBED. I like it better.
Does anyone know the correct syntax to make a shortcut to automatically run Opera Mini (rather than start JavaFX and choose Opera Mini from the list)?
With JBED it was "\windows\jbed.exe" -run s0_

The "from storage" option doesn't seem to work, but it's easy enough to just install java apps in the usual manner, as JavaFX makes itself the default JVM. Click on the JAD file in a web browser and it'll install fine.
sun java network problem
so I cooked the sun java package on my tp2.. installed opera mini... but I can't get the network. if you are running opera mini, maybe you have some provisioning files that are nessesary to connect to the internet?? OM just says that there is no network connection.
JavaFx.exe parameters
I see that you still don't know how to run this emulator from a shortcut and run in it any midlet.
But maybe someone haven't posted it yet but knows it. I hope someone will write what is the missing parameter

TP2: Esmertec Jbed/Opera Mini

What version of Esmertec should I use for WM 6.5? I'm trying to get Opera Mini going on my AT&T Tilt2..
This guy has done all the work for us... He uses 20090216.5.1 & sets the fonts to be a little bigger so they're not to small on VGA/WVGA screens.
I <3 Opera Mini more than any other mobile browser (except Safari but we can't use that)

Yes & Yes.
I don't have a cab for 1) handy - search for mortscript and you will get there.
2) go to \windows\appdb and find selector.utf. (Backup &) Edit it. You will see an entry for domain
change:
domain=untrusted, \
to:
domain=tckmax , \
(note that I added spaces to make the length of the second entry identical to the first)
copy the file back and u are all set - no more Java Nag..
Thanks very much!
Actually when I tried making that change, I got an error:
The MIDlet could not be instantiated:
java.lang.NullPointerException
Any ideas? Thanks.

make sure you put enough spaces to match the length of the old entry.. The best way is to open the file in a program which allows you to see spaces/hidden chars, copy the domain line and replace untrusted with tckmax and start adding spaces till the length of the two lines match. then delete untrusted..
I did this tweak on my Fuze w/ WM 6.1. Worked fine.

But last night, after I installed both versions of Opera Mini (v4 and the new Beta) on my Tilt 2 , I searched for the appdb folder and the selector.utf file -- to perform the tweak on the Tilt -- couldn't find them anywhere.
Can any of you folks help me out here? Did something change with WM 6.5? What am I missing, and what do I have to do to run Mini.
Those annoying "untrusted" prompts are driving me crazy. Thanks.
Instead of the utf hack, uninstall Opera Mini, go back to the download page from Opera Mobile (do not dL from your PC). Choose the option to download a previous version (do not select the Download Opera Mini link), and select the Verisign version (it's still 4.2). Viola! No more confirmation screens. I got this tip from this board, so thanks to whomever it was that posted it.
I'm surprised anyone likes Safari better than Mini. iPhone, Pre, and Opera Mobile all have the same problem, which is you need to grow and shrink multiple times to read a web page. I find it cumbersome. Plus, I can switch between mobile & non-moblie views. Each has their uses.

That worked. Went to the previous version, selected the "multiple certificates" choice (of 4.2), and installed it. When I ran it, the first time Mini connected to the internet, I got a "... accesses the network" prompt, but with one of those little check-boxes that says "don't show this message again." Well, on my 6.5 Tilt 2, when I check it, it does show up again, but only once, the FIRST time Mini connects. After that, no more prompts until you exit Mini and start another session. Nice. Thanks!
That's odd -- I only got the message once and was never asked again, regardless of reboots, hard reboots, etc. It loads the first page directly, no questions asked. I used the Verisign version on 6.1.

Tried the Verisign ver., too. Same result for me (It's not like I'm complaining, mind you). Probably a combination of the phone, OS and who knows what else.
I'm just happy to be able to use Mini without the annoyance. Even with an excellent 3G connection, the version of Opera that shipped with my Tilt 2 performs horribly. I could grow old trying to bring up Google, or WAP pages. It's worse than IE. Never thought anything could be worse than IE.
Skyfire really rocks here, though, for some reason. Just a few steps behind Mini for busy sites like the Wall Street Journal. Go figure.
Anyway, thanks again.

Just updated to 6.5 - SPB Pocket Plus alternative?

I'm specifically looking for the file explorer integration, allowing for file name extension editing for example?
I've been searching for the past few hours... obviously not using the right search strings
Thanks.
Ever tried Resco Explorer?
Yep, but it doesn't seem to allow for renaming the extension of files - just the main part of the name, as the standard windows mobile allows for.

It does allow extension renaming, you simply need to make them visible. Go to the menu>options>general and the files tab, and uncheck the hide file extensions option. Then you can rename them.
Also, what about Total Commander? Seams to do everything.

em, what does this have to do with Pocket Plus? The file explorer stuff doesn't work anymore? People use the built-in one??
Pocket Plus works just fine in 6.5, at least I suppose the stuff I use it for.. Probably won't want to turn on its gestures feature for IE etc since it's already inherent in IE.. The safe boot (should) work, haven't tested it yet but I do see it at startup if I reboot a few times in a row for some reason, as a Today plugin it works great, I have my usual load of today plugins and shortcuts inside of it. Works as well as it did in 6.1 for me.

I could never get pp to work in 6.5 correctly either, great with 6.1 tho.
Still waiting to hear what problems Pocket Plus has in 6.5.... Besides the Explorer extension thing, which I've never used because File Explorer is useless IMO and I've always used Resco Explorer.
To be honest I had so many problems, including displaying files as zero size, with corrupted names, that I immediately uninstalled it.
Best if you try for yourself...
I have the Tilt 2 OEM ROM and am also having probs with PPlus. On any tab when I try to add a new item...it goes to the add screen and shows the Category dropdown with "Indicators" as the default. But it won't let me drop down and select any of the other categories (Programs, My Documents, System, Settings, Custom). Actually, now that I am looking at it, none of the other dropdowns work in the settings. Also, when I go landscape it cuts my walpaper in half and puts the right side on the left and vice versa.

[CAB][OEM][EXT]2010 Opera Mini 5 for Windows Mobile (does not require Java)

Opera just released Opera Mini 5 for Windows Mobile requiring no Java. It runs a lot faster than the Java version and doesnt have that big annoying keyboard as an option. It also automatically connects your data connection taking away any lag when starting up and selecting a bookmark. Here are 3 downloads. A CAB, and an OEM or EXT package for Chefs. OEM for Build OS, EXT for Visual Kitchen.

Thats a shame buddy, just look for a newer device on ebay and flash it for tmobile. You should be able to score at least a touch screen pda for 100 or less.
Edit: I just checked and seems you should be able to use a number pad to type with this version. This is taken from the multitapbream.ini file included in the install.

Hey Ryan, is it up to Opera to release a new Mini 5.1 cab that doesn't require java, or is it something you can cab up?
Excellently working, but I've a question ..
Both Opera 9.7 & Opera 10 can read Arabic words/sentences normally after installing my language package, but Opera Mini shows them in reverse & with letters unconnected. Is it possible that someone knows what how to get over this? Noting that Opera Mini could read Arabic normally on my previous Symbian phones (Nokia).
Thanks in advance.
