"The other day Java made a version of JavaFX available for download for Windows Mobile Phone devices. JavaFX is intended to bring more rich media content to phones and since JavaFX can be cross platform (PC, Mac, BlackBerry…everything except the iPhone since Apple may never approve of it) developers can make applications one time and they can run on these platforms natively. Windows is the first mobile platform to have a release of JavaFX. The package contains 4 demos. A Twitter client, a simple calculator, a photo viewer and a little application where your finger makes a ripple and the fish follows it.
So for the first time developer’s can start to work on developing JavaFX applications and have a real mobile testing platform. Of course you can run any other Java app through this as well (I tested it with Google Maps java and it ran fine). The download and additional release notes are located here."

ooh, thanks for information! need to take a closer look then.
(if only bt work with that too...you know what i mean ..).
upd: hmm it can be SLOW as hell and seems to be typical vga soft, although it handles launched application resolutions quite well(320x240 is 320x240)..

Hmm, I don't know. JavaFX is much, much, much slower with Opera Mini on my Touch Pro than jbed. The font seems a little nicer, though. I think it uses antialiasing.
Interesting app.
Worked fine but....
Could not install file from memory, only by internet, that worked.
Installed Gmail as test. Continuallyl, said there was no internet connection with Wifi and Active sync.
After fiddling with it. I decided to remove JavaFx. After that many strange things happened.
Had to hard reset. :-(

I have removed JavaFX, too, but everything went fine, no hard reset needed. WM6.1, too.
It works on a Touch HD. But for some reason, its slow. Esp. the fish app.
How is the Twitter App? Just asking as I tend to shy away from java apps on my device because I never really had much success with them running properly.
I'm now running Opera Mini in JavaFX rather than JBED. I like it better.
Does anyone know the correct syntax to make a shortcut to automatically run Opera Mini (rather than start JavaFX and choose Opera Mini from the list)?
With JBED it was "\windows\jbed.exe" -run s0_

The "from storage" option doesn't seem to work, but it's easy enough to just install java apps in the usual manner, as JavaFX makes itself the default JVM. Click on the JAD file in a web browser and it'll install fine.
sun java network problem
so I cooked the sun java package on my tp2.. installed opera mini... but I can't get the network. if you are running opera mini, maybe you have some provisioning files that are nessesary to connect to the internet?? OM just says that there is no network connection.
JavaFx.exe parameters
I see that you still don't know how to run this emulator from a shortcut and run in it any midlet.
But maybe someone haven't posted it yet but knows it. I hope someone will write what is the missing parameter

Hi I was thinking of switching from Omnia to TP2 and use Opera Mini all the time due to its speed. Had anyone tested it on the TP2, wondering if the different screen res makes it differcult to read due to size or should it be better.
I just installed it in JBlend. The legibility is OK, although the default font size is a little small. The main problem is that opening or closing the keyboard requires you to restart JBlend, which is a royal pain in the neck as I often want to switch between landscape and portrait mode when I'm browsing.
This problem seems to exist with all JBlend apps.
Install JBed, works like a champ. Will thoroughly recommend it. Much better than JBlend.
On Jbed what is the font size like?
Are there no problems with keyboard as described with jblend?
I just installed the latest JBed and OperaMini now loads fine. The font is pretty small, but readable (by me, at least).
Does anyone know how to create a direct menu shortcut to a specific JBed application (e.g. OperaMini, GoogleMail, etc)? (i.e. without having to launch Jbed then select the app you want to launch). I'd also like to assign a different icon to each application, so that I can tell them apart purely from the icon.
Sorry for the obvious question: JBed? JBlend?
Are these some sort of Java runtimes that one must install on a WinMo device?
There's no Java ME edition in WinMO 6.1 by default?
I don't get why you wouldn't just use opera mobile which comes with it
Because until Opera Mobile 9.7 with Turbo ships, mini opera is several times faster with proper settings.
For the past 3 years I've used almost nothing but Opera Mini myself, instead of the full fledged browsers available (I have bought Opera Mobile as well and a Webkit browser).
It's just so much faster due to Turbo caching and fits my needs.
I suspect many others are in the same boat.

Thanks for the link.
So....following the instructions for jbed...I created a text file on the PC containing only the following line:
"\windows\jbed.exe -run s0_"
(with the quotes included). I copied this file to the TP2 and renamed it "OperaMini.lnk". When I run the renamed file it doesn't know how to handle it - I get the "Open with..." dialog.
Can anyone advise what I'm doing wrong??
itm,
I believe what you need to do, is create the shortcut file on your TP2 using a file explorer other than the stock WM one (at least on my Uni, it is not capable of creating shortcuts). I think you can either use the inbuilt function of the file explorer (i.e. paste shortcut or something like that) or create a file and change the file extension to .lnk (as you have done) Once the new shortcut file is created, you need to access the "properties" box of that file and in the box where it says something like "go to" or "link" you will need to paste "\windows\jbed.exe -run s0_" (with the quotes). You then save the change and should hopefully be ready to roll...
Appologies for the vague explanation, but left my Uni at home today, so can't physically go through the process on an actual WM device atm.
If you're still stuck after reading this, PM me and I'll try and walk you through once I'm home.

Click on the computer you want to access and the URL https://secure.logmein.com/connect_axtest.asp comes up, logme in will hang displaying a white screen instead of asking for the user name and password, click on the address and replace axtest for mozilla so the address will be https://secure.logmein.com/connect_mozilla.asp and hit enter, in the next screen LogmeIn may ask if you want to install the plugin, just click Skip, and you are done.
Logmein uses the mozilla Java not ActiveX.
This means you can use the slider to zoom in and get a better resolved image to read those hard to see small fonts. If you play around with the LogMeIn zoom and the slider bar together you should be able to get the resolution you want
but the TP2 comes with a fully featured version of remote desktop?
I've used both and RD is definately the better performance wise, just wondering why you'd choose logmein over it?

Maybe it's my age, but one of the PCs I want to control has a 1920 x 1200 display and the text is really. really, small and difficult to read on the TP2. This option lets you zoom in. Also the font on RDP gets a bit screwed up betimes.
My version of the TP2 didn't have RDP, I got a CAB from this great forum to remedy that.
I agree with Tomo. RDP isn't always the best solution especially going cross-platform. I access several OSX, Ubuntu, and Windows interfaces using Logmein which also helps to solve the dynamic IP issues on some systems. While RDP is faster, it also leaves out a lot of control. The Opera browser workaround is ok but I still use the WM client since I get a better refresh and I can also adjust zoom properly with the WM Client.

I can't get it to work either. I get the same https://secure.logmein.com/connect_ce_check.asp page rather than the page referenced above. If I remember correctly, I used IE first (full IE not pocket) using this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=198923&stc=1&d=1245870498 to switch, it allows you to toggle between IE and PIE. Then downloaded the LogMeIn CAB. This is a one time only operation. Do this and then try the Opera fix. If this solves the problem I will amend the post to include it.
I am runing WM 6.5 with Opera 9.7.
No problem loging in with Java, it is a bit slower then ActiveX on IE.
I dont have 9.5 to try as it dose not have my local Lang support.

Opera just released Opera Mini 5 for Windows Mobile requiring no Java. It runs a lot faster than the Java version and doesnt have that big annoying keyboard as an option. It also automatically connects your data connection taking away any lag when starting up and selecting a bookmark. Here are 3 downloads. A CAB, and an OEM or EXT package for Chefs. OEM for Build OS, EXT for Visual Kitchen.

Thats a shame buddy, just look for a newer device on ebay and flash it for tmobile. You should be able to score at least a touch screen pda for 100 or less.
Edit: I just checked and seems you should be able to use a number pad to type with this version. This is taken from the multitapbream.ini file included in the install.

Hey Ryan, is it up to Opera to release a new Mini 5.1 cab that doesn't require java, or is it something you can cab up?
Excellently working, but I've a question ..
Both Opera 9.7 & Opera 10 can read Arabic words/sentences normally after installing my language package, but Opera Mini shows them in reverse & with letters unconnected. Is it possible that someone knows what how to get over this? Noting that Opera Mini could read Arabic normally on my previous Symbian phones (Nokia).
Thanks in advance.

will all WM 6.5, 6.1 apps work on WP7 ? gps software?
Nope- no Windows Mobile 6.x (or earlier) apps will work on WP7.
Clean break. Nothing will work. Apps on WP7 are based on Silverlight/XNA. There aren't going to be many third aprty native applications. .NET CF Applications from WM 5-6.x won't work either. There was never a Silverlight for Windows Mobile, so most apps will have to be rewritten, not only because of that, but because the entire platform from internals to GUI have changed remarkably.

Nope, nothing at all.
hum. dont like that idea. so all WP7 apps are completely rewritten? are those more stable and more smooth than older windows mobile apps ?
The point was to start with a clean slate and they did. This has been out in clear from day one round about 2 years ago when the development begun.
Stability of the app is upto the developer not Microsoft. Smooth is also upto the developer to make the code more efficient though the OS is quite smooth.
Hope this clears it up.
those apps have different format? different way to install ?
Yeah the old ones were CAB, new ones are XAP. Thought they both are ZIP files in a nutshell.
Also the package is signed by a digital certificate if I am not mistaken.
Opera Mobile 10 for Windows Phone 7
FOR FULL UNLOCK AND ROOT TOOLS UNLOCK
Opera Mobile is a property of Opera Software ASA. Neither Opera Software nor the author of this launcher are responsible for any damage caused by using this app.
Current version of launcher is 1.5
What's new?
Better interface
Root Tools support.
v1.2
Application window gets recreated on the startup if Opera was already opened.
Got rid of WindowTreeUpdater, now using system functions directly.
Font smoothing
Removed some unneeded system calls.
Now timeout is 3 seconds.
Virtual keyboard (SIP) support improved
Rotation support wasn't implemented in this version. Windows Phone 7 API doesn't support it in fully native apps.
Q&A
What is it?
That's Opera Mobile 10 initially built for Windows Mobile. I've just added an extra layer that makes it running.
Why does it only work on fully unlocked ROMs (like Dynamics ROM)? Isn't developer/interop unlock enough to run it? Can it work with Root Tools?
Developer unlock will let you install xap. Interop unlock will let inbuilt interop library work. Full unlock or Root Tools unlock will let Opera native exe run.
Which ROMs should I use?
Almost all custom ROMs (based on either Dynamics or DFT) or stock ROMs compatible with WP7 Root Tools.
What's countdown made for?
Press "Stop" and check.
When I press "Stop", there is a "Delete internal opera folders" button. Why is it here? I can delete this app like any other WP application...
The reason is that Opera launcher goes beyond the standard isolated store. For example, it creates "\Program Files\Opera Mobile 10" folder. Also it adds some absent libraries to \Windows\.
If you delete Opera launcher "like any other WP application", folders beyond the sandbox will still stay there. So, use "Delete internal Opera folders" button wisely
I have problems with starting it up...
If it Opera launcher's window doesn't appear at all, it means you have no Interop Unlock.
If it throws an error with "Check your unlock state" in the end, it means your unlock isn't enough for running native executables/copying files.
Anyway, you shouldn't post about it here. I will ignore such comments.
Opera Mini is discussed here.

Strange because neither Opera itself nor I can control keyboard mode. Probably keyboard behaviour got mixed with other apps.
Interesting fact: if you like to see keyboard built in Opera, set HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Opera10\Keyboard\UseNativeInput to 0
Works flawlessly on my HTC HD7, running NextGen ROM.
Great job!
Is it possible to apply your technique to any WM exe, or did you write a special wrapper specifically designed for Opera?

50/50. Some code parts are universal, some not.
Problem is that more apps we port, more apis we should emulate. Some WM6 apis were deprecated in CE7/WP7. For example, Opera Mini was working almost out of the box - I had to fix not so many things. At the same time Opera Mobile required creating an emulation layer for Connection Manager APIs.

Thank you, ultrashot, Opera Mobile 10 works really, really great (ok, no multitouch and no landscape, but I knew that before and I don't care much about that). I don't know how different porting Opera Mobile is compared to Opera Mini, but I tried both and Opera Mobile works much better for me. When I closed Opera Mini, the whole system was very sluggish until the next reboot, i.e. scrolling through the app list. But I have no problem with Opera Mobile, it works flawless, just like a native WP7 application.

So long term, if the hard work was put in, it would potentially be possible to create a WM6 emulation layer, akin to Wine on Linux? ....
