[REQ] Files for flashing via Heimdall... - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

I see this all over the 9100 forums. I'm a little nervous about using VM to run ODIN and most of the dev community is using linux anyways...
I'm an HTC guy, I'm just flashing this one as a favor for a friend, but I always enjoy learning a new tool. Is Heimdall actually compatible with this model? and if so, is anyone flashing with it at the moment?

Well thanks for the speedy reply... This is a topic relevant to development as much as the guides to flashing roms via Odin. I should have phrased it differently. I'm not asking for my benefit, it just seems that this section of the forum is aimed at the Windows user.
Odin offers no linux support that I'm aware of. Heimdall is a cross platform tool that caters to all users. Put the thread where you like... I'll stick to my fastboot!

I just installed the darkside evolution 3.. Which is a stock kernel official release by TMobile. The app still says that the phone is vulnerable and throws off the warning.
I know there are threads which tell you what it does but IM a layman in mobile development .. Need something in layman terms..
If I got the warning, does it mean I should stop flashing?

As discussed before, Its only recoveries that are compiled with ICS kernels not roms. The odin installed ICS leaks were installing a recovery using ICS kernels so when it wiped it bricked your phone.
Roms are all fine as long as your using a recovery complied with GB kernel.
Thats what i got out of it

stupid question i think, can i flash different modems/radios on stock?

please let me know if i can flash different radios on my rooted/stock rom uvlh2? I want to try and see if i can get better data speeds in my basement. Im using modem flasher 2.0 but dont want to screw up my phone, but i want to flash UVLI2 (the leaked ICS radio). Thanks again, i appreciate it

Umm... how? I don't think it's possible. Apparently you know a way but don't want to share? Also, iv wouldn't count on EVER getting good speeds in your basement. The bands TMo uses aren't meant for it.
I don't think you can
Of course you can flash radios. Why wouldn't you be able to?
Assuming, of course, you know what you're doing..
As long as you have a T999 model, you can flash any of the radios released in the dev section. Any radio on any rom. some work better than others but everyone has a different best one. Its up to you to test them all for yourself.

ddont know if this applies... but i used to flash radios, through my galaxy S (first generation), usually through odin, or a zip file and cwm... not sure how it would work for the gs3, but pretty sure itd still apply, if any method is best, probably through cwm as that shouldn't (in theory) affect your flash counter
Correct, though I personally recommend twrp. Just read the ops for any of the many released modems in dev section for more info.

You read the description for the kernel before you download it. All the info will be there so you know it'll work

Still not fully understanding maybe if I tell you what Rom I am using that would help?

You might want to search to find out what a kernel does first

I have some what of an understanding after reading up on it ... I am just trying to understand how one works with a rom? or the correct one for a rom?
+1 on read the op and you should be fine.
You need to know if your ROM is ics/jellybean and if its aosp based or stock based.
Always make a backup before flashing something just to be safe.

I'm a little confused. Are you asking how it works, or what roms it will work with?

Head over to the development and original development sections to find some kernels. To know whether it is compatible with your phone and ROM, read the opening post thoroughly and do research. All of your questions are common and answers are out there when you search. Reading is the best thing you can do for yourself here on XDA.

Why don't you use heimdall, unlike Odin it is cross platform and works on Mac but I have never used it personally. It is said to have same capabilities as Odin. Here is a link to it.

[Q] Development for Galaxy Tab3 7"?

I just received a Galaxy Tab3 from our cable provider as welcome gift, but I don't like the Samsung ROM. So, I opened XDA as always, but did not find any development threads in the forum? Only two threads about rooting.
Are any developers working on a custom ROM? I would like to have a stock Android ROM instead of the Samsung shizzle.

Same story as me.... If you check the threads we need CWM working first and many are working on it, there's even a G+ community

Do we really ned cwm ? Isnt it sufficient that someone cooks
a complete rom and we upload it with odin ?
Sent from my SM-T210 using xda app-developers app
