Hey guys found this while looking through the Desire Z side. I'm running Virtuous 0.7.1 on my G2 and installed most all of them and they all work. Just thought I would post them here in case people haven't found this already. See post #10 just below for some trial and errors on my part that may benefit you.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=801928 See this link for Themes and also see post #6 for some custom notification bars.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9526289&postcount=249 See this link for an even more customized notification bar with great battery icon. These files must be flashed via clockworkmod.
Requirements
1-Have a T-Mobile G2
2-Your G2 is perm rooted and S-OFF. SEE http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833965
3-You have clockworkmod recovery flashed. SEE http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=834731
4-You have a custom SENSE based Rom flashed on your G2, be it Virtuous, eVil D's Desire HD, MoDaCo,VillianRom. I do NOT think that this will work with eVil's My Touch 4g rom because I believe it uses different framework. SEE Virtuous: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=837042, eVils http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=835687, MoDaCo:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=837389, VillianRom:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=855560
STEPS-4 icon sets
1-Download eitheryour desired iconset/notification bar and place on your sdcard where you will easily be able to lacate later.
2-Boot into clockwork recovery(with phone off press in trackpad and then power and hold both, press power buttom to select bootloader, then vol down to select recovery
3-Once in clockworkmod recovery go down to backup and restore and push in trackpad and select bakup.CYA
4-Press power button to get back to first clockwork screen and move down to "Install zip from sdcard"
5-The move down to "Choose zip from sdcard" and then find your downloaded Theme/Icon set. Once highlighted press in track pad.
6-Move down to"Yes-install(yourfilegoeshere)
7-Once done installing press power button to get back to main screen and select reboot phone.
8-ENJOY!
STEPS-4 sopL87 Themes
1-Donload desire theme/skin from links above.
2- Have Astro File Manager installed from the Market Place. It's free and a handy app anyways.
3- Navigate to your downloaded theme and select it and a box/menu will appear and you will want to selecte open app manager.
4- Select install app- You may be asked to change a settings for installing from unknown sources. But you'll be fine cause you did a NANDROID backup right!
5- Once installed go to you HTC Sense Skin Picker and apply your newly installed theme
6- Enjoy!
Also I take no credit for any of this work, just wanted to post it in a new area for more eyes to see and use some of this great work.
Thanks to sopL87,vibez icematrix for making these and all their work. Also THANKS to rmk40, eVil D, Paulobrien and nprussell for their amazing Roms and kernels. YOU ALL ROCK!
Hey, I'm new to Droids and noticed my friend has this clock with weather (I think its like Beautiful widgets) on their evo and I was trying to find something similar for my new phone. Is this what you're talking about in this post? Does it require 'rooting' or 'hacking'? Thanks man!
Lol I am in the same boat as you g2man. I'm new to android also and after playing with my friends evo I fell in love with the weather clock and the bookmark widget. I found the clock under beautiful widgets on the market but I am still looking for the bookmarks. I also don't know what's up with hacking or rooting lol.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
if you want those cool widgets then you need to load a sense rom. There are similar ones out there just look in the post your home screen thread and stay looking at other people screens to see what they have and what you like. If you do decide to go with a sense rom then yes you need to be permanently rooted.

Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
I installed them all through Astro File Manager and then you can toggle between all of them through the skin selector. Also to answer from the second post yea you will needto root and install a customsense Rom if you are on the T-Mobile G2 which I would guess you are. These will just change certain aspects of the HTC sense operating system.

If you look in post number 6 on the link I supplied there are some frameworks there and the RougeSense one has a circle battery indicator with number in middle. Those files are also .apk format and could also be installed via Astro if I'm not mistaken but I have yet to try that so don't quote me on that. Also there is this link that have and very nice mod for the notifacation bar that has great icons and even better battery icon.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9526289&postcount=249 The files from this link MUST be installed via clockwork recovery.
I would say if your going to try these before I do I would do a nandroid back up before just incase something goes wrong. CYA(Cover Your A$$) if you know what I mean. I'm going to try them right now and I'll post and let you know how it goes.
Well I flashed the v3 with animated menu onto my G2 with Virtuous 0.7.1 and all is well. It is currently charging and battery circle is rotating as suppose to. All icons seem to be working just fine. Have to side affects that I can see yet. Posted a screenie for you all to see. Also just want to say this again, MUST flash the icematrix frameworks via clockwork and I highly recommencd doing a backup. If no problems are found the just delete the backup and no harm done. CYA!
EDIT: Find small glitch with v3 w/ animated menu. When screen is unlocked you will get a very quick flash of the home screen preview except upside down. Then just goes to the main screen. So far this only seems to happen if the phone was locked when on the main home screen. Going to try v3 with out animated menu.
EDIT2: Currently running v3 w/out animated menu and seems to be unlock glitch free. But with the animated menu option menus that would normally pop up while using your phone have a effect where it looks like they come out of the side of the screen. But I just really wanted the custom icons.
EDIT3: Well after running v3 for awhile still not having any problems but have noticed a change though. If you look at my first screen shot you'll notice that my contact app is named "Contacts". Well after two reboots my contact app is now named "People"(see screen shot two below). Not that this is a big deal just thought would let you all know.

If you are wanting to flash the icematrix icons then you MUST do it through clockwork recovery. So yes your phone must be perm rooted and you must have a custom Rom installed such as virtuous or eVils desire hd roms. These will only work on sense and NOT stock or cyanogen.

Look under G2 Android development and one of the top posts is a guide on how to perm root and s-off. Then you can install ROM Manager which can flash clockwork to your phone from within the app itself. There is also a post in Android dev about clockworkmod recovery.

No there is no need to rename any of these files. The custom icons from icematrix are installed through clockwork recovery and from clockwork choose "install zip from sdcard",the select "choose zip from sdcard" than just navigate to where you placed the file on your sdcard and will flash it. There is no need to wipe anything when flashing one of icematrix frameworks. The other files from sopL87 are all .apk files and those all install from an app like Astro File manager which can be downloaded from the market for free. Great app to have even if not using it form this reason.
Tried installing the other icons from sopl through astro and it said launch or uninstall. When I hit launch it said it could not. To afraid to hit install unless you have done this already and it works.

What boot animation are you trying to use? Post the link.
Most of them are flashable if they are in zip format, you do that through recovery. If the file is PC36IMG.zip though, that's through your boot loader.
Also what recovery are you on?

its just droid x one, i want with volume, and i dont get what you mean by what recovery? i have clockwork recovery when i go to recovery and ****
Clockwork recovery is your recovery. The name "recovery" is a little misleading personally but whatever. Anyhow, I dont think it's possible to get sounds on your boot animation since you are using miui (aosp roms don't have it built in). I think there is a thread around here about getting them, I just don't know where. Search for it if you like.
To get the actual animation though, just put the bootanimation.zip file on your sd card, not in any folders or anything. Then go into your recovery (clockwork), and flash bootanimation.zip from there. No need to wipe anything usually.
The instructions listed on that thread you linked are for doing it from your computer, a little more complicated than mine.

will try thanks
said that installiation aborted, can you recommened a rom to use? i'm still searching for a fav
MIUI lets you change boot animation and sound through the Theme Manager. The files are stored in different locations than on any other rom. If you'll link me to the file I'll make you a mtz file to use in Theme Manager and you can set any sound as the boot sound.

Try wiping cache and dalvik then reflashing the rom over itself. Don't wipe data and everything will be the way it was before the reflash. You can also try fixing permissions through Rom Manager or in Amon Ra recovery "fix apk uid mismatches". If you do both of these and the Theme Manager still doesn't work, the mtz file won't work.
I'm a little busy, but I'll go ahead and start on it. When I'm done I'll post it here along with directions assuming you get Theme Manager to work.

Well an mtz file won't work on that rom. I don't think the boot animation will work the way it's currently set up. I'll try it on my phone and see. If it doesn't work then the file names will need to be changed. I can do this for you but it will probably be tomorrow before I can finish it. If it works as is I will give you directions on how to get it working on that rom.

Here ya go, it might be from ef02 but im not sure. you have to use sdxstockappremover (http://roc-city.com/android/SdxAppRemoval-1.5.apk) to install it put the apk in sdcard/sdx/backup/app/ and use the restore option
hope this helps
I have not the slightest clue how to do that . Can you explain it to me in well writen instruction, can I do this over my phone? Or will I need my computer?

Do this instead(might be easier for you) Put this on the root of your sd card(this ones from froyo ec05): http://db.tt/7sxDLX4
Download ES file explorer from the market
Go into its settings and turn on the both root options.
Copy and paste the apk into /system/app
Then turn of the root options in settings, the bottom one first.
Exit the file explorer
Reboot
Voila.

ok so basically its just an apk file but it is a system app so you cant install it directly by pressing install it will say unsucsessful which is why you need the sdx tool. the sdx tool is for managing system apps (like musicplayer.apk) which is a very simple and useful app. you dont need a computer
Step 1. You need a file manager from the market i use androzip
step 2. download and install http://roc-city.com/android/SdxAppRemoval-1.5.apk and perform a backup of any system file (ex. AccountAndSyncSettings.apk) to establish the folders in your sd card
Step 3. use androzip (or any file manager) to navigate to sdcard/tapatalkxdapre_download/ and copy musicplayer.apk (assuming you already downloaded it with the xda app) to sdcard/sdx/backup/app/
Step 4. go to sdxstockappremover in your app drawer and hit manage backups and if everything is alright it will be there aong with the other app you backed up so just check it and hit restore selected files.
I will attempt both methods if one does not work, Thank you guys for your help. Oh another thing. Can you guys give me a feedback on the syenergy rom if it is good for epic, If so what features does it have that are good , no just give me the pros and cons.

Hi my wife has a desire and I have done my best to clear data and move apps to SD but she now only has 4mb left. Dose this mean its time to root. The only bit I am interested in is having the same software she has now but being able to move all apps like maps and Facebook to SD. Can I do this and save all the data and stuff set up like contact etc on her phone. What is the best and most reliable guide to use and is it easy for a first timer to do?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
You can install a custom Sense ROM which will give you the same software. Look in the development section for Gingerbread 2.3 stock ROMs. Rooting is as easy as it gets on a Desire. All you need is UnrEVOked, Google it and it's a one click job.
Sent from my HTC Desire running MIUI using XDA Premium App
If I root can I then move all apps to SD? To do this do I have to install a custom Rom.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Well, there are a lot of answers to that simple question. You can use Clockwork Recovery which is installed when you root (access it by turning the phone off and holding volume down and the power button, then using the volume rocker and volume keys to select Recovery) find create EXT partition on the SD card 1 gig will be fine, and get a ROM with data to SD, which will dump all apps to the SD card. You can even dump the whole System onto your SD card giving you ~ 900mbs internal memory.
So I have to root then install a custom Rom to make more space and move all apps. Can you recommend a good reliable Rom and if poss a good guide.

Download UnrEVOked follow it though, and you'll have root, I'll have a look and see if I can find a suitable ROM for your needs.
ROMs are very subjective, don't let people tell you this one is better than that one, it's all a matter of opinion. I am just anticipating people posting to tell you try this and that and the other.
Post back when you are done and I'll show you what I've found.
Sorry for the silly question, do download to my pc or phone?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Download to your PC. You'll need to connect your phone via USB to run it.
MIUI is pretty good
I quite like Redux too , fantastic battery life with that one !
Right, have a look at InsertCoin Sense 2.1.1.1.0 A2SD.
it's a direct link to the download, download it and connect your phone, transfer the .ZIP file over to your SD card.
Once you're done you'll need to power off the phone, hold volume down and the power button, let Fastboot load, using the volume rocker select Recovery with the power button.
The most important thing you can see here is 'Nandroid' or 'backup and restore' as it's now called. Click it and backup your ROM, It will save the entire phone as it is, texts, apps, calls everything. So if anything goes wrong you can just simply go into Recovery and 'Restore' and bobs your uncle it'll all be back to normal again.
After doing that, using the trackball select 'Advanced' at the bottom of the Recovery Menu, then 'Partition SD Card', they say 512mbs is fine, but if you've got the space go for a 1 gig partition with zero swap file if your prompted for one, I don't think Recovery asks you for one. All your system apps and future downloaded apps will be stored here.
Then go to 'Wipe data/factory reset' on the main Recovery page, it'll wipe your phone back to stock, then clear the cache which is the option underneath. After this is done go to 'Install zip from SD card' give it a few mins and it'll install and you'll be back at the Recovery main screen, click 'Reboot system now'.
First boot can take, they say, up to ten minutes (it never does) so give your phone a few minutes to boot up and get settled. Then voila, you've got apps that will auto install to the EXT3/4 partion created on the SD card and you'll have a shed load more internal space.
Thanks, ill give it a go in the next few days and let you know how I get on.

One last question, I understand the back up In case things go wrong but if I just install the Rom and all is good I take it I will lose for example, texts and contacts etc. I'll have to set up my phone like I just got it out of the box.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
It may sound a bit daunting but root is really as simple as one click. Recovery is easy to 'master' and ROM flashing is a breeze. You'll wonder why you didn't look into beforehand when you're all up and running.
There are some really nice apps for rooted users as well, Set CPU to overclock, Root Explorer is the best file explorer, LCD Density will change your resolution Titanium backup for backing up apps if you ever need to reset the ROM. Look into them all, most I would say are essential.
Do let us know how to get on.

You will yes, you can save contacts to SIM of course but you will loose everything else, all game saves, settings and the like. This is where Titanium backup comes in handy it will save all apps and their save states making changing ROM or hard resetting much less painless.
It's a pain loosing everything to start with, I know I've done it a few times, but Titanium is a mans best friend and there are loads of apps that will save SMS, I don't know if they actually require root to run though, that would be ironic, lol.

I was attempting to use unrevoked but seem to be stuck at how to get to the hboot. I just updated to 2.3.4 and when I power off my phone then hit volume down and power button to gain access to hboot it simply turns the phone back on. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Head over the the revolutionary.io site, you should be good to go. You have to use that method to root for gingerbread on the evo.
Check this thread for rooting.

And turn off fast boot in settings/applications and then try to boot into hboot I think thats where it is I'm not sure I haven't been on sense in a while I'm not even sure if a stock ROM has it but look there to boot into hboot.

the recovery should be a PC36IMG.zip you flash that in hboot just make sure its on the root of your sdcard not in any folders then when you go to hboot it will find the update just except it.
The su apk should be a flashable zip just boot to recovery and wipe cache and dalvik cache then go to flash zip and choose that zip and flash it then reboot.
If this is your first time in recovery before you do anything make a nandroid backup this will backup everything in case anything goes wrong you can restore the backup and your phone will be just the way it was when you made the backup.

What happens is when you flash a rom, its a whole new phone basically [os] so it comes packaged with its own apps, themes. What you can do is:
- go into recovery, backup your current rom
- restore your initial backup
- use / download es file explorer [free] from the market
- enable su permissions, then navigate to /system/app and copy it to your sd card
- go back to recovery, restore the synergy backup
- once booted, install the app from the sd card
or if it was backed up, open titanium backup, restore the app and data.
Thanks for the help teh roxxorz. I got the mail thing figured out. Worked with es file but didn't work to well with titanium backup. Took some trial and error to find all the files needed cuz the paste the whole folder didn't work. Having other issues finding the contacts and getting force closes, so I decided to just not use that rom. On to finding another good one that works.

So I tried miui and that didn't work as well. Couldn't get the mail to work at all on that rom. Anybody happen to be in Japan and using this phone and could suggest a good rom to use that they have their au email and contacts moved over on, and have minimal issues?
