How do you stop the dam update pop up? its starting to piss me off.
Bump

Don't you just freeze systemupdater.apk?
Edit. Yes I didWith TB. But it still pops up. I just don't have the time this week to find a GB rom and test it out. I like playing with my phone for hours with a new rom. So I just want to stay on froyo for a little longer but the popup will not stop.
Any one got ideas

pm disable com.samssung will not work. Google is pushing this:

freezing com.google.android.gsf is a bad idea, but disabling the spam can be done as so:
* edit /data/data/com.google.android.gsf/shared_prefs/update.xml
change these 2 entries
Code:
<long name="watchdog_deadline" value="1321299994739" />
<long name="next_dialog" value="1321289621276" />
so that 'value="132' becomes 'value="142'
* change this entry:
Code:
<boolean name="download_approved" value="true" />
to:
Code:
<boolean name="download_approved" value="false" />
* kill google services framework to force a restart:
Code:
pkill com.google.process.gapps
edit: this does not work FOTAKill does
that does not seem to work. I changed the lines of code killed the service.
Then i restarted & the update thing was in the swipe down menu
it also seems to have not saved the edits to the file after a reboot

I'm not on sprint so I don't need to be bugged about Sprint Activation. Just delete systemupdate.apk with root uninstaller. If you ever feel you need it again the back it up, flash stock,or ask a user for a copy, its truly dispensable and easily to acquire again should you want it. I've always deleted it since Eclair and I don't get bothered.

Not sure if it is just mine, however the reasonwhy the GVoice is listedthat way because on mine it tries to set up Gmail and when skip is hit it freezes. It will allow you to text, however only through contacts and will not let you read them for some reason.
Been looking into it all night.

Sounds cool, can't wait till I can give it a try during class tonight!
i have been talking to him, however when you theme does it make you sign into your account again when you go to the market or is this just me?
I went to extract the file and it notified me that there are duplicate files, name wise, in the \New folder\RedAndBlue\3g\stock area both labeled framework-res.apk. How exactly you got it to name two files the exact same i dont know, but this may be an issue that is causing troubles that some are having with the particular theme
Hmm found a bug I believe. In the sounds area when I click Get Installed Sounds it starts CMD , starts the daemon wityhout really doing anything aparant. If you try to click it again I get an error saying "Error; The same variable cannot be used for more than one control. The current thread will exit. Specifically vDevSounds Line#162: GUI,Add,ListBox, x600, y113, w260, h500 vDevSounds, %formated%"
Also the application is not work AT ALL for me. I have my Xoom in debug mode but whenever I click a button in pimp it flashes a few CMD windows real fast then sits there. I reboot and nothing has changed.

I have DI18 rooted with some stock apps removed so I know OTA to EC05 will fail. I am on cricket so I didn't want to go to EC05 yet. I'm getting tired of the nag screen for system update to EC05. I read it in one of the thread that you can turn this off but I can't seem to find it. I searched for about an hour and I can't find it. Can someoby kindly point out the thread or post on how to do it.
TIA
I cant remember the name of the apk but you need to delete the apk that deals with the phone updating. once it is deleted you wont get the message anymore cause the phone wont check. look in your system partition for it or search for the name. Im sorry i cant remember and im on a custom rom but that is your solution. I think it might be something like phoneupdater.apk or something like that.

It is in te system folder. It is called Sprint_app_updater.apk. There is also devicemanagement.apk. However not many people were successful in stopping the notification. Google FOTAKILL. That was the only thing I heard of that stopped the notification, well that and putting on a custom GB ROM.

I think some devs probably like it but it should definitely have toggle in the settings and be defaulted to off as most people don't give a flying fig
nothing to do with rom.
Renaming this file or deleting it isn't the best or safest way to get rid of this problem. It has nothing to do with the ROM build or the developers. I have a rooted gnex running stock recovery and stock boot loader. If you open the bugmailer.sh file as an text viewer then rule clearly states that if you have USB debugging enabled in your developer options this app will send reports. Turn off USB debugging and your problem is solved
Hey guys. Found this interesting app called Billion Counter that uses CPU power to count to a billion (or any other number you want). I think it would be interesting to see what other people are getting on different roms and what not. It's crazy to see how superior our device is compared to the others listed in the app.
Be patient with the app, it'll be stuck on the "Counting, please wait" screen for the duration of the test.
I'm running rooted stock JB 4.1.1. Ran the test about 5 times and took a screen of the fastest one (18.164).

Opening this thread to find a solution to keyboard backlights not working on JB ROMs, if the phone is put on in any other mode other than autobrightness.
I might try possible things to make this work and post here about the changes I made, which can help save time for others trying to solve this bug.
If anybody has any ideas about where to look and what can be a solution they are welcome to reply and contribute.
Update 05 Jan : See post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=36311016&postcount=11
Since I haven't seen the files myself, I could be talking complete BS here, but...
When looking at the code in the OP of thegreatergood's post the name of the integer-array seems to imply the KeyboardBacklightValues are linked to config_autoBrightness. Although I would expect a dot between those two if KeyboardBacklightValues is truly a child of config_autoBrightness... Java, and all...
Code:
<integer-array name="config_autoBrightnessKeyboardBacklightValues">

255

255

255

255

0

</integer-array>
Looking at [GUIDE][HOW-TO][ANY-ROM]Change Auto Brightness Levels elsewhere on XDA it would indeed seem this only sets what the backlight does in response to various auto-detected light conditions in auto-brightness mode, and NOT for manual brightness.
If so, using the same syntax, there might be something like "config_brightnessKeyboardBacklightValues" or "config_manualBrightnessKeyboardBacklightValues" somewhere? Or that should be inserted somewhere...? Perhaps a search for lines with "config" and "Brightness" and "Values" may provide more inspiration...?
Again, the above might be total BS as I haven't looked in the file myself. I'm still planning on getting more involved hands-on, but that'll have to wait for a few more days!
On that note, Happy 2013!

Happy 2013 to you and all the glide community as well.
The file has no more settings and the code is correct, but I was thinking of taking apart ICS where it all worked perfect and do a compare on all files related to keyboard lights. Hope fully would get a clue.

you may wanna take a look at settings.apk, services.jar and android-policy.jar they all have brightness control stuff in em ... but it may be in smali which we all love.... the stock samsung brightness settings controls the duration which the lights are on .... and thats whats missing in aosp...

If you think about it that could be a cool feature for users to make it like a cars headlights but it would need to be a option in the settings. need a toggle in settings however

A car's headlights? How do you mean?
I think he wants it to be at a different brightness like a dimmer.

I have only seen the keyboard backlights be full on or full off. I have never seen them dim or fade. If they did have some staging that I never noticed or could be worked into the auto brightness then that would be news to me.

Not dim or fade, but with the new fix the keyboard backlight now works on auto brightness mode depending on the light sensor in the phone. So if it's dark enough then the keyboard lights will come on and if its daylight then it remains off. Works pretty well in real life situations.

I've worked out a patch using the info on this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=661343 . This is a very crude way of fixing it but until it's really fixed in the JB roms this can be useful, specially CM10.1 .
So here is how to run it.
Unzip this file Download, put the script in your sdcard either through adb push or file manager. Pull up the terminal app and type the following :
Code:
su [press enter]
nohup bash /sdcard/Kbonoff.sh > /dev/null &
Then you can leave the terminal and guess what the keyboard backlight will work now.
This will only work until your next reboot. Once you guys test it, i'll probably look into making it more permanent. Don't want to have a permanent fix which drains battery and affects performance.
Note : I only tested it on dman's CM10
Keept it running a full day and i see no visible impact on performance or battery.
This works great. I can also see no significant drop in performance or battery life. I do have a lag in the time the lights take to come on. The only bug I really see is that when the keyboard is open and your phone locks. You have to close and reopen the keyboard for the lights to come back on. But it may be just me. Anyways great job and keep up the good work! :thumbup:

Nope not a bug really. The script works on a simple code.. when it find a keypress generated on slide out, it lights up the keyboard and when its slide in it switches it off.
I've tried and yes when it gets locked and screen is off it gets switched off. I'll try to see in logcat if I can watch for anything unique for the slide out and in only.
Report back if somebody has tried it on a diff jellybean rom.

Probably later after i get off work. It also seems thegreatergood found something out for cm 10.1. Cheers guys! :beer:

In Paranoid Android you can change the auto dim settings so that the keyboard light is always on in advanced display settings.
