[Q] turn off system update notification - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have DI18 rooted with some stock apps removed so I know OTA to EC05 will fail. I am on cricket so I didn't want to go to EC05 yet. I'm getting tired of the nag screen for system update to EC05. I read it in one of the thread that you can turn this off but I can't seem to find it. I searched for about an hour and I can't find it. Can someoby kindly point out the thread or post on how to do it.
TIA

I cant remember the name of the apk but you need to delete the apk that deals with the phone updating. once it is deleted you wont get the message anymore cause the phone wont check. look in your system partition for it or search for the name. Im sorry i cant remember and im on a custom rom but that is your solution. I think it might be something like phoneupdater.apk or something like that.

Not true. It will go away for a while, but inevitably the prompt will come back. I haven't done it yet, but I think that deleting the .apk will be the best solution.

Freeze the Apk or uninstall it with Titanium Backup

I'm having the same problem. I used Titanium B/U and all I see is "System Updates 1.0.0",but nothing called "System Updater.apk". So, I froze System Updates 1.0.0 and within minutes the system update notification was back hounding me again!
I tried to find System Updater.apk but really could not figure out specifically which folder to look in for it.
Can someone please give me some advice?
Thanks!
UPDATE! - Well, I have not received any more update notifications so I guess my problem is indeed fixed.

It is in te system folder. It is called Sprint_app_updater.apk. There is also devicemanagement.apk. However not many people were successful in stopping the notification. Google FOTAKILL. That was the only thing I heard of that stopped the notification, well that and putting on a custom GB ROM.

Your on ec05 right?
That's not going to work. Its just the fact that the update is not "New" & its not being pushed to your phone right now.

How do I get Windows Live Messenger on my phone

I have got HTC S620 Windows Mobile 6 from BT Broadband
It hasn't got built in Windows Live Messenger.
I have tried download and installed that Windows Live 10.6.0034.0800 and I couldn't open the messenger at all. I have been looking around websites for a week for Windows Live Messenger.
Could one of you point out where can I download one for my phone please.

Possibly missing files from the application, I am not really sure what could be going on... Did you try to restart your phone by taking out the battery and then turning it back on?
It's incredible, cuz, I did a hard reset on bj2 and loaded everything back and Live Messenger was the 4th app I loaded up and it did not run for some reason.
I love this messenger app, the voice clip feature is so cool, you can walk and chat and the same time, its awesome, when you drive as well, its cool

[Q] HELP How to STOP update popup?

How do you stop the dam update pop up? its starting to piss me off.

Sent from the Drivers Seat of my Suby txting and Driving doing 100MPH+ in a school zone! Ha.
Don't you just freeze systemupdater.apk?
Edit. Yes I didWith TB. But it still pops up. I just don't have the time this week to find a GB rom and test it out. I like playing with my phone for hours with a new rom. So I just want to stay on froyo for a little longer but the popup will not stop.
Any one got ideas

pm disable com.samssung will not work. Google is pushing this:
11-14 07:46:34.736 I/SystemUpdateService( 6050): starting download of http://android.clients.google.com/p...a5ff039a0c97.SPH-D700_update_EC05_to_EI22.zip

freezing com.google.android.gsf is a bad idea, but disabling the spam can be done as so:
* edit /data/data/com.google.android.gsf/shared_prefs/update.xml
change these 2 entries
Code:
<long name="watchdog_deadline" value="1321299994739" />
<long name="next_dialog" value="1321289621276" />
so that 'value="132' becomes 'value="142'
* change this entry:
Code:
<boolean name="download_approved" value="true" />
to:
Code:
<boolean name="download_approved" value="false" />
* kill google services framework to force a restart:
Code:
pkill com.google.process.gapps
edit: this does not work FOTAKill does
that does not seem to work. I changed the lines of code killed the service.
Then i restarted & the update thing was in the swipe down menu
it also seems to have not saved the edits to the file after a reboot

I'm not on sprint so I don't need to be bugged about Sprint Activation. Just delete systemupdate.apk with root uninstaller. If you ever feel you need it again the back it up, flash stock,or ask a user for a copy, its truly dispensable and easily to acquire again should you want it. I've always deleted it since Eclair and I don't get bothered.

software updates

hi
I,ve just replaced a nexus7 2013 after i hit the multitouch problem,everything was fine with it whilst it was running build JWR66N,but then i got a notification to update to the latest version.
I was reluctant to do so,but eventually decided to take the plunge,so i updated,it put build JSS15Q on my nexus...result was terrible multitouch issues,basically the update had inflicted my "working perfectly tablet" with the dreaded multitouch issue,needless to say i was gutted.
My new nexus again comes with the JWR66N build,my question is,can i stop the tablet auto downloading the new update(JSS15Q),i know i don't actually have to install it,but i was told that if i power of my nexus,it will automatically install the update when i reboot,is this true?
Don't want to go anywhere near that JSS15Q update,or any future updates at all if possible.
To be honest,i'm not that interested in having bleeding edge versions,if my nexus works flawlessly on the JWR66N build then i could'nt care less if i never updated ever again,if it ain't broke,don't fix it.
You should look at the two posts in my signature. They will cover everything you need.
BTW the update won't automatically install when you reboot. You can also turn off the notification in the framework services configuration.

Okay,thanks Sfhub,can I just ask though,I have the jss15q update sitting in my notification panel,until I specifically allow it,will it just stay there,I mean,will it at some point install itself without any action by me.
What happens if I reboot,will that instigate the update process.
As long as I'M in control of when it gets installed I'm happy,I know it fixes the GPS issue,but I literally never use GPS,so I'm not bothered about fixing that.
Would really really appreciate some help on this,cheers pal

If your stock and don't care about root that's fine. Go to settings /my device/scroll down to fonts select what you would like
