Anyone Else Not Preorder Yet? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Just curious if I'm alone. I'm in the mind set to see how this all shakes out in the next couple weeks.
It may or may not turn out to be a mistake but I can accept that.

I haven't. The way I see it, there's no reason for me to spend $725+ to pre-order a phone right now. If we hit late November and there still aren't any details for the unlocked HSPA+ one going on sale in the US I'll think about it.
I just can't justify the price right now. Too much.

I'm not going to. If the GSM version doesn't come out in the USA I'm either going to wait for the next big phone or suck it up and go for Verizon. Not sure I want to spend the extra $30/month.

Geez u would do that for a phone? $30 a month, wouldn't take long before u could have just bought it straight up

Yeah, price wise it's clearly not worth it but with LTE plus getting the phone possibly 2 months early it might be worth it. My N1's performance isn't feeling quite as smooth as it used to and I'm looking to upgrade.

I wish i was a s strong as you guys.. Smh

I canceled my pre-order from Amazon and am now waiting until reviews are out. The details about the phone don't really promise me a phone that's worth that price. The only actual benefit this phone has over other phones that have come out recently is that it has native Android 4.0 and hopefully will get updates before other phones.
And this benefit is seriously not worth the price. Rumoured Galaxy S3 will likely cost as much and will have quad-core, 2GB of RAM, microSD slot on top of 32GB of internal memory and a new Super AMOLED III screen that is rumoured to have the highest pixel density among mobile devices.

You're also comparing the Galaxy Nexus to a phone that won't be released until next summer at the earliest.

I actually preordered in late October because I was able to find a great deal through Negri Electionics. I refused to pay under $700, but got it there with a coupon for $680. It's up to $780 now I think.

Same here, I have the GSII and each day that goes by is helping to think twice, three… maybe I’ll be strong enough to wait until the price drops.

I haven't preordered yet, nor am I planning on doing so. I'm making a switch to Verizon, so I'm waiting until the official announcement.

Same. I'm waiting for some news about being able to buy the HSPA+ version locally off contact. The nexus s will continue to serve
me well until then. I might even get an ICS upgrade before then. Hell might also freeze over.

Waiting here as well!

I haven't ordered yet either, and most likely will not.
1) Waiting on reviews (particularly concerned about battery life).
2) Waiting to see the price. Will it be subsidized for Tmobile? Or will I have to import? My contract with Tmo doesn't end until July 2012, and if I hold out, by that point, I might as well wait for the Nexus 4.
3) (This is probably the biggest reason) I'm honestly most excited about ICS. If it runs awesome on my Nexus S, I can't convince myself to drop so much money to upgrade to the GN. Spec-wise, I can live without the bump-up, and the GN screen may actually be too big for my personal taste.
I'm not ruling it out; I may order it depending on a few things, but for now, I'm waiting.

I went through phones for you, I wasn't aware of this 'deal' and even got a discounted line rental (£41 contract for £33)and the phone free, keeping my old number as I was able to upgrade my contract with Orange through them. This means when my nexus arrives it will be cheaper to run than my current SE x10i lol
I couldn't be happier execpt when it arrives at my house on 17th and get all day to play with it as I got the day off work!
Sent from my X10i using xda premium

I haven't preordered. I'm willing to pay full price, like I did for my Nexus One, but I want to see evidence of actual stock before ordering.
My current contract with Rogers is also just about finished, so I might be willing to sign another one with whatever carrier in Canada might have it. At this point I just don't know, so I'm waiting to see what happens when the new Nexus is actually available before I decide exactly how I'm going to get it.

As someone still in contract until mid-2012, I also feel inclined to see what the Nexus 4 brings. It's obviously too early to call that now, but if ICS can hold me over on my Nexus S, might be worth waiting...
EDIT: You know what's one thing that's awfully tempting about this phone? The LED light. It's the one thing I sorely miss from Blackberry days (many moons ago...).

For real. If Verizon gets this exclusively that'll be garbage.
Great, another outlet to throw away our privacy and give companies more of our information to use and sell, for the convenience of being quickly informed of when we can give them more of our money...
Lmao. I got duped on google nexus register. Samsung is sending advertiesments to me now. But no mention of nexus. The ole bait and switch just for advertising. Even lamer.

I am using a damn Samsung gravity. I sold my sensation for this crap. I am going to get amaze.
I just saw that. YOu know what? F*** google. They claim that they intend to do things differently, but then at the end of the day they sell out to the highest bidder.
I was a serious google fan, but the edges are starting to crack and it is slowly dawning on me that the innovative, fast moving company of the early 2000's is becoming a weighed down hegemony of bean counting MBA's who are starting to only get it right when they get lucky.
Exclusive on the most expensive carrier in the USA. The same carrier that replaced their search engine with Bing on 1/3 of their Android lineup. Not a word of it breathed at their week-late press conference. My own fault for getting my hopes up, I suppose.
I am due for a new phone around December/January and this will afford me the opportunity to take a good long look at what Windows phone has to offer before the Galaxy Nexus is even available to me.

Don't feel bad. Just remember one thing. Google is a business company. They don't care about me and you. They support whoever pay more. I am going to get SGS2 or HTC Amaze. I don't have a choice and can't wait longer than the end of nov which is my upgrade time.

If tmobile is going to get it, they will mention this at the event on Friday. we will see.
Relax. I highly doubt its anything more than a timed exclusive. Both the nexus one and nexus s were only on one carrier originally.
And yes, if you were planning on getting the international one, i'm pretty sure it will still work on AT&T or T-Mo as long as the bands match up.
Well if they're pentaband then you could just buy the world phone model at full price and go. I think it only affects those looking to pick it up on a contract.
It is weird Verizon having a Nexus. Seem to clash together but my work has Verizon so why pay for a personal line?
G2x - 2.3.7 CM7
Transformer - 3.2 Revolver OC/UV
Bet you when they are referring to the 'exclusive' Galaxy Nexus they are only talking about the LTE model and all the others will get the pentaband one at pretty much the same time.
Just had a thought... I know it doesn't say it, but... maybe it word play. I mean they will be the exclusive carrier of the LTE version, but remember there's too versions. Hhhuuummmm

I'm not gonna act like I'm not disappointed they have exclusively, especially since the other Nexus phones started as exclusive to one carrier as well. I wish they would just drop the whole exclusivity thing and make it available to everyone day one as exclusivity only really hurts the consumer. No way I'm switching to Verizon for this phone. I'll either import or wait for the GSM version to hit the US (if it's not that long of a wait). It's really bad for the phone's sales too considering in the world of smartphones, the next big release is always right around the corner and you will lose a lot of potential customers who will get something else because they don't feel like waiting anymore or something else hits the market. The average consumer doesn't know care about the Nexus brand, they care about new and noteworthy so why not try to rope them in while the iron is hot?

[Q] Has anyone Pre-Ordered from Verizon before?

I am going to Pre-Order this phone when its available, however I have never done it.
Has anyone tried it with a phone in high demand? Like the Droid Incredible or the iPhone? I am just curious if I need to do it the very first day its open in the morning or am I safe to do it within the first day or two?
I bought my Dinc after its release and had to wait about a month to get it...PIA. I don't want to go through that again.
P.S. My upgrade isn't until March 3rd, but I was told I could maybe get an early upgrade. If not then one of my employees has a standard phone and no desire to upgrade so I could switch upgrades with him from what I understand.

I hignly doubt that the GN is going to be a "high demand" device.......but because the nexus is finally going "main stream" i think they will have a large supply....
My guess is that you'll be able to walk into a Verizon or Best Buy store and pick one up on the first day. Having one deliverd on the first day could be iffy.
i'm dropping my sprint contract a few months early, paying them $100 to do so, selling my evo 4g on swappa, and then getting in with flynn @ verizon the day of GN launch. $400 venture minus the profit i make on the evo (assuming less than $200).
I preordered my incredible from Verizon and was lucky I did with the crazy demand and supply issues the phone had. I have doubts there will be a need to preorder the nexus as it has more competition and no known supply issues like the Inc had.

I preorder a few verizon phones. You don't need to preorder it right away. You should be able to wait a few days to preorder and still get it day 1.
I have a $400 best buy gift card from doing a buy back with my nexus s. when this phone comes out, i will be buying my phone at best buy so i can get another buy back option plus I'll be selling my basically brand new samsung galaxy s2 + 32gb sd card + 2 batteries which should offset the 200 ETF to move over.

Like DammitCubs, I am also switching from T-Mobile. Truthfully, I am not that hard up for LTE, but there's an ongoing 3G/4G outage in my neighborhood that T-Mobile doesn't seem to be doing anything about. Take a look here for more info: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1223379
With regards to tiered data, I'm currently on a 5GB full speed plan with T-Mobile, but I've never gone over 2GB. I don't think Verizon's plan will be an issue.

I guess it was a processing mistake. And they sent me two GNs and charged me with the upgrade price of $250. If I sell my second one, would verizon know? They said that they would refund all charges if I return the phone. I kninda would not mind extra money.

This is definately something to consider. You dont want to be stuck with a GN for 4 years!
Just call back and ask youre worried about your future upgrade, and youre going to give a ypunger family member the second Galaxy Nexus for Christmas (this way it atleast seems like you dont want to sell it).
Or, right off the bat, just ask them when youre next upgrade is available. If they say something like 2015, say the Christmas gift story. If not, just say cool, because you got 2 GN at BOSS prices lol.
trade the other for a gsm version. heh heh.
They give 50 off if you have a ECPD doliscount(employee discount ex. USPS etc). I got mine for 150 which was that in addition to the extra 100 off 4g promo they are/were having.
I wouldn't think they could extend your contract four years like that. I am pretty sure the systems wont allow for anything more then 2 years. I would be more worried about getting charged full retail for it... That said I would wait till my bill posted and look it over. If all is well then sell the thing!
Those are some really good suggestions y'all.
I checked online and it says:
Eligible for a discount on 8/16/13 !

I guess the GN is going to last me through grad school.
I see I was charged 500+ish on my CC for the two card, just like the receipt that I got with the phones.
This does not change anything. I'll call verizon and see if I can give this to my GF or something. She has verizon, but is on her family's plan. I seriously need to convert her away from the i*hone.
Be careful they don't mess up your contract or decide to come back later and charge you full price. I would definitely go into a store and get this straightened out.
I got my price at $249 as well because that's my corporate rate.

GNEX dilemma!

My trusty Gnex was recently stolen http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1863863, and I am currently facing a troubling dilemma. I realize there are something like 5 "Nexus" devices being released this fall/winter. I also realize that isnt "all" that long from now. However, it is a few months away and a lot will be going on. I have a little one at home and they grow so fast at this age. These next few months have Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years which are all key photo/video opportunities. The phone I am currently using is an old Gingerbread device that is "ok", but certainly not able to take the quality pics and videos like the Gnex.
So my dilemma is do I drop $350 (directly from Google) and pick up a new phone or wait? To be honest, if I could get the Gnex for like $150 or $200 I would be happy to sign a service contract. I am currently on Tmobile and they have told me I am upgrade eligible since I havent had a contract in many years, but they dont sell the Gnex! Due to the fact that all CDMA providers SUCK (and are so expensive) I cant consider moving away from Tmobile, so changing carriers is not an option. I checked around and I cant even find a 3rd party retailer that sells the Gnex AND can provide me with a new Tmobile plan. The biggest problem is I know the minute the new Gnex drops I am going to want it, but I dont know if I can justify spending $350 now plus another $500 (or whatever) in a few months.....

Don't know why you're even considering this, considering that service contracts cost way more than the $150-$200 that you'd save.
Not going to kid, it does suck that you lost the phone at this particular time. There aren't very good options when the next big thing you want isn't out quite yet; they all cost money. Buying a new Nexus will be $350ish, a new contract will cost $1400ish (depending on the upfront price of the phone and your opportunity costs); that comes out to $800 even if you resell the phone for full price (an unrealistic scenario) when the next Nexus comes out. If I could stand it, I'd just keep using your gingerbread and pray it comes out soon.
Getting a used GN if you want to pay around $200 (as Jason suggests) is also another option. Hell, you might even be able to resell it for a similar price (though naturally there will be a price decrease when the new one comes out).

Trust me, I am very aware of how annoying contracts are and that is why I have been without one for so many years. However, I currently get a decent discount from a company I used to work at (6 years ago!!) which makes my bill comparatively low. If I switch to the new Tmobile unlimited plan I will be all in (taxes, and everything) for just over $60 per month. I do see that Straight Talk offers "unlimited" everything for $45, but I don't know if that includes taxes or if it is truly unlimited. I have given thought to going to prepaid however, so you do raise a valid point. In either case though, I still need a new GNEX!!

The S III seems like a nice enough phone, but its really just not for me. I swore I would never purchase another non-Nexus phone again as I do not care for the horrible "tweaks" these companies do to core Android OS. I would end up rooting it and then installing a vanilla JB ROM on the thing, and then being frustrated that it wasnt actually a Nexus device!

I already have a decent digital camera, but using it feels like a throwback to 2002. It far thicker than my (any?) phone, requires I carry two devices, and can't record in proper HD. Yes, it does take nicer pictures but the "cons" of constantly needing to remember to carry it make it frustrating. I also must say that I got used to the convenience of my photos automatically syncing to Dropbox!
Regarding the suggestion for a used GNex, I do like the idea and I am currently searching for one. The problem is that Craigslist is so full of scammers these days. Even the people that DO actually have it will tell you its a "9.5 out of 10" in terms of condition and then when you go meet them the thing looks like it went through a cement mixer.
I definitely would never get a non nexus android phone again including the S3, I would rather go back to using an iPhone than do that.

[POLL] Upgrade to S3 now or wait for S4?

I am due for an upgrade with Sprint. I am currently on the Evo 4g. There seems to be some good holiday deals on the S3 right now. I was thinking about jumping on one of these. However, after doing some reading it looks like the S4 may not be too far around the corner. Any thoughts on waiting it out or even waiting for the first of the year for some of the new HTC line? I know waiting with a subsidized carrier like Sprint means you're basically losing money, so I'm trying to decide the best course of action.
I would say just get the s3 its an amazing phone I'm running cm10 on it right now and its super fast stable and the battery life is amazing! The s4 most likely won't be out until next summer if you want a major upgrade I would say wait for the galaxy note3 or the nexus5!

I got mine on black friday so it was impossible to turn down. I had the evo, but it just wasn't cutting it. Rooted and everything stripped out of it, I still couldn't have facebook, google music, google maps, and skype installed at the same time because of storage issues. I really like the s3, and if you can get a good deal on it, you might as well. My gf still has the evo, and she's now eyeing my s3. If you want to wait for the s4, you might as well wait for the s5 or s6, or whatever... My philosophy with tech has always been, what will benefit me the most now, because if you always have in the back of your head that you plan to upgrade, you never will. Do it now, or do it never lol
I'm currently leaning toward the upgrade, but I may have just been dealt a blow. I checked with Amazon and they said I'm not eligible for the $50 price because I'm a current customer (despite that I'm up for a two year contract extension). Does anyone else have any experience with this? Is this true?

That's what I figured as well. I haven't really found any information on the internet about people upgrading after a 2-year contract either. Has anyone successfully done so through Amazon or any other retailer? Perhaps I was mistaken when I thought the discounted price applied to me?
Also, will it matter that I am on a SERO plan? Don't want to lose that guy!

Easy call, if you see an outstanding deal on the S3 ($50 or under) then snag one. If a deal doesn't come your way then hold off. I'm on the SGS3 right now and it is a pretty amazing device. I was able to get it for $50 through Sprint on the Black Friday stuff, my wife's SGS3 on the other hand we shelled out $250 for, and we just wish we had waited the extra couple of months *Grin*.. Of course if you are like some and Money isn't an issue Get Both !
Just got mines Today at Best Buy for $49.99. One day sale!!!
Got mine black friday, price matched from sams at walmart. Got a $100 gifrcard too. Freakin sweet! Id say get this phone, its gonna be one people still want a year from now. Promise.

I also had the original Evo 4G for two years wating on the SIII to come out.
At this point, you might as well wait for the SIV to use your upgrade option. Shop around for deals on SIII online and you might just be able to snag both phones.
It is an amazing phone though. I can say with confidence that i'll keep it until I get a good deal on a SIV, after the first few months after the launch date.
Well after talking with Sprint Employee Account (I'm on a SERO-P plan), they offered me $75 off my bill for the next two months to effectively make the S3 $50. I went ahead and took the plunge! I should have the phone tomorrow.

I'm currently leaning toward the upgrade, but I may have just been dealt a blow. I checked with Amazon and they said I'm not eligible for the $50 price because I'm a current customer (despite that I'm up for a two year contract extension). Does anyone else have any experience with this? Is this true?

Just get the s3. Still a strong selling phone. Stay away from HTC. They tend to stop updates to there phones after they have been out for a short time. I don't think the note3 will be out anytime soon since the note2 just came out. S4 won't be out until sometime next year probably.

I decided to go ahead and take the plunge for the S3. I was eligible for the early upgrade and I had the Buy Back program from Best Buy. If I waited for the "next" phone I would have lost the Buy Back. Turned out the S3 was $99 and the Buy Back gave me $130 on my old Epic 4G, so I made out pretty well. Got the phone and had some left over cash to use on a case.
