For real. If Verizon gets this exclusively that'll be garbage.
Great, another outlet to throw away our privacy and give companies more of our information to use and sell, for the convenience of being quickly informed of when we can give them more of our money...
Lmao. I got duped on google nexus register. Samsung is sending advertiesments to me now. But no mention of nexus. The ole bait and switch just for advertising. Even lamer.
I voided my warranty and your nexus.

No worries, it will only be for like the first month... Also getting Razr presale emails... Why would I want that over the Nexus? Good luck competing.

Being with t-mobile it sucks that some of us will have to wait longer.
Blow me verizon.
There's something incompatible btw the uber-controlling Verizon and the supposedly open dev nexus line.

I am using a damn Samsung gravity. I sold my sensation for this crap. I am going to get amaze.
I just saw that. YOu know what? F*** google. They claim that they intend to do things differently, but then at the end of the day they sell out to the highest bidder.
I was a serious google fan, but the edges are starting to crack and it is slowly dawning on me that the innovative, fast moving company of the early 2000's is becoming a weighed down hegemony of bean counting MBA's who are starting to only get it right when they get lucky.
Exclusive on the most expensive carrier in the USA. The same carrier that replaced their search engine with Bing on 1/3 of their Android lineup. Not a word of it breathed at their week-late press conference. My own fault for getting my hopes up, I suppose.
I am due for a new phone around December/January and this will afford me the opportunity to take a good long look at what Windows phone has to offer before the Galaxy Nexus is even available to me.

Don't feel bad. Just remember one thing. Google is a business company. They don't care about me and you. They support whoever pay more. I am going to get SGS2 or HTC Amaze. I don't have a choice and can't wait longer than the end of nov which is my upgrade time.
i used to be with Tmo but had to switch cause i got stationed in Montana, and now im kinda glad i did, even though I loved the big T
If tmobile is going to get it, they will mention this at the event on Friday. we will see.
Relax. I highly doubt its anything more than a timed exclusive. Both the nexus one and nexus s were only on one carrier originally.
And yes, if you were planning on getting the international one, i'm pretty sure it will still work on AT&T or T-Mo as long as the bands match up.
Well if they're pentaband then you could just buy the world phone model at full price and go. I think it only affects those looking to pick it up on a contract.
It is weird Verizon having a Nexus. Seem to clash together but my work has Verizon so why pay for a personal line?
G2x - 2.3.7 CM7
Transformer - 3.2 Revolver OC/UV
Bet you when they are referring to the 'exclusive' Galaxy Nexus they are only talking about the LTE model and all the others will get the pentaband one at pretty much the same time.
Just had a thought... I know it doesn't say it, but... maybe it word play. I mean they will be the exclusive carrier of the LTE version, but remember there's too versions. Hhhuuummmm
Stupid Samsung, why can't you just release carrier info. when you unveil it.
**Edit**
Damn, beat me to it... we're on the same wave length though.

I'm not gonna act like I'm not disappointed they have exclusively, especially since the other Nexus phones started as exclusive to one carrier as well. I wish they would just drop the whole exclusivity thing and make it available to everyone day one as exclusivity only really hurts the consumer. No way I'm switching to Verizon for this phone. I'll either import or wait for the GSM version to hit the US (if it's not that long of a wait). It's really bad for the phone's sales too considering in the world of smartphones, the next big release is always right around the corner and you will lose a lot of potential customers who will get something else because they don't feel like waiting anymore or something else hits the market. The average consumer doesn't know care about the Nexus brand, they care about new and noteworthy so why not try to rope them in while the iron is hot?

Not sure if I am the only one considering this as my next phone. However I'd like to know if anyone thinks this phone will be sold by Verizon....(assuming they pick it up)
What I mean by this is; from what I understood when the first Nexus device came out it was sold by Google only and cost full retail, as a contract wasn't attached to it.
I'd love to get the Nexus Prime but I don't want to pay full retail...

Given how Verizon likes to keep a clamp on the devices they sell, and their history of never leaving a device unmolested (sans iFone), I seriously doubt you'd ever see that phone there. Even if it does, it will be trumped in capability by the Vigor since Samsung uses their own LTE chip, not the MDM9600, which is the only way to get full simultaneous voice/data at the moment. But, if you're a fan of AMOLED and you've got LTE everywhere you'll ever be, and it supports Verizon's 700MHz LTE, not AT&T's LTE freq, and full retail isn't an issue, I might be tempted... That's a lot of "if"s though.
I'm also skeptical about verizon getting the nexus. The specs do look good but samsung's galaxy line feels so cheap. If samsung hadn't shorted HTC amoled screens HTC would have the nicest phones on the market.

Truth.
I don't see Samsung being able to keep up with their agenda AND HTC's agenda though, both of them sell so many phones so it only makes sense that Samsung would keep their in house tech for themselves. Especially against HTC... The AMOLED screens are pretty much all Samsung has.
Here's my thought... Verizon confirmed they are not carrying the Sgs2 corrrect? Therefore I wonder why the hell they wouldn't they want one of the more popular phones to replace they're SGS1?
Either a bad taste in they're mouth from the sgs1 or they don't want to waste resources on the Sgs2 when the rumored release of the prime being October? That's why I think Prime is Verizon bound.
Correct me if I'm wrong on any of those rumors please. Hell who knows maybe Verizon is skipping the SGS2 so they can be the first US carrier with the SgS3, and its completely unrelated to the Nexus Prime. But with the 720p screen and the TI Omap it looks so damn sexy.
Well I understand that it's a possibility that Verizon may not be getting the NP, but IF they do would it likely be sold at Verizon? If I can renew my contract and get the phone for a reasonable price then I am all for it.
Anybody thinks that the delay isn't about pushing the RAZR is crazy.
Please hold for a Verizon Wireless sales representative to assist you with your order. Thank you for your patience.
You are now chatting with 'Mya'
Mya: Hello. Thank you for visiting our chat service. May I help you with your order today?
Scott: Do you have any information regarding the release of the galaxy nexus?
Mya: I do not have any information about that phone but I can help you find another great phone today.
Scott: When I switch to Verizon, I just want the galaxy nexus.
Mya: What do you like about that phone?
Scott: Android 4.0, NFC, direct support from google for software updates, 720p Super AMOLED display, stock android software, LTE.
Mya: Have you considered the Droid RAZR?
Scott: I have not, but I do know what the RAZR is. Verizon pushes the Droid line of phones onto its customers.
Scott: It's Verizon's specific line of Android powered phones so that's what they want to sell the most of.
Mya: Well the RAZR is a great phone to consider. Right now the iPhone is a huge seller but it seems like the RAZR would be a better fit for you.
Scott: Why would the RAZR be a better fit?
Mya: Well it is a better phone over the iPhone. It is Android, it is a 4G LTE phone.
Scott: Have you seen or heard about the galaxy nexus?
Mya: I have not, we do not have any information about that phone.
Scott: I mean do you even know what it is?
Mya: I do know what phone you are referring to I just do not have any information about it but the RAZR does have a 4.3" Super AMOLED advanced display.
Scott: So you have heard about the galaxy nexus. Have you read any of the specs about the galaxy nexus?
Mya: I have not.
Scott: The Galaxy Nexus is superior in every way compared to the RAZR. Verizon must want to just sell the RAZR and not the Nexus.
Mya: Is there anything I can help you with regarding a phone that we currently have or a order?
Scott: If you don't have any information regarding the galaxy nexus, then no.

1. Droid Bionic
2. Duke Nukem Forever.
3. Arrested Development Movie
4. Chinese Democracy by Guns and Roses.
5. Ghostbusters 3
On topic though, It sucks that they are at least partially delaying this due to the razr.

Nope.

Verizon never announced a release date...It hasn't even been a full month since the GSM release.
A month is not a large delay in the grand scheme of things.
I find it funny that:
1) You told her you wanted an android phone, so somehow when she tries to tell you about another android phone, the RAZR, it means Verizon is delaying the Nexus for the RAZR?
2) Everyone on this forum knows not to take anything a CSR says without a few thousand grains of salt. And now all of the sudden everything this "online chat rep, Mya", says is true?
Don't get me wrong, I have trolled a handful of CSRs in my time, but using what a CSR says to prove your own theories is just plain stupid.

They do that because many of these sales people are on commission and would rather sell you phone that is currently available vs. a phone that might be available next week. Since the Nexus won't be out until a later date you could possibly get it from a different store and that is one less customer for them.
Now I agree that corporate might have partially delayed the phone due to the Razr and Rezound, but I think that that happened before the original projected date of Thanksgiving week. I think the most recent delay (last week) had more to do with the either the 4g outage, or the Google Wallet issue.

No offense but OP you just sound obnoxious from this conversation. Giving hard time and jeering at a random customer service rep just because your phone is delayed? You could have asked about GN in a more decent way I'm sure.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
While offering a current available phone makes sense... I'm hard pressed to know they don't have some extra incentives for the Razr. Even the Razr vs Rezound. How many times have they pushed the Rezound? Never. They never even mention it unless you specifically ask for it. "Oh yea that phone... its ok"
if u really want the GN now, go with a GSM carrier order it unlocked online...no need to harass/bother CS Reps or Sales Reps..I used to work in the wireless retail industry so I know how it is for those people..Granted I was alot more informed then your average rep because I keep up with tech all the time..many times they do have information about the product before launch but are told explicitly not to say anything to the customer about it..Bottomline if u want the GNex on Verizon just wait patiently.
Of course a VZW Rep is going to push the Droid line. It's their flagship series. Sure, the Rezound is a powerhouse compared to the RAZR, but they know the Droid brand sells like hotcakes, hence the major push. Also, as people have mentioned before, they'd rather try to sell you a phone that's available than a phone that isn't. No need to go harassing reps because of that.

Last week, I went to a local Verizon store during my lunch break to ask about the status of the GNex. The reps pleaded ignorance and, upon noticing my Sensation 4G, tried to steer me towards a Rezound.
Big red's corporate offices are plastered with Droid RAZR marketing. It's even in the bathrooms! Meanwhile, not one mention of the GN anywhere. The GN must be a small-fry deal for them. There's no marketing campaign. Meanwhile the RAZR continues to get pumped up for holiday sales.
But, I don't think they delayed the GN for the RAZR though. I don't think the GN was ever a threat. If I had to guess, they were getting the baseband right, dealing with battery life issues and a network outage. Quick aside, you don't launch a device during an outage unless you really want to make a horrible first impression and blow up your call centers. No matter what, clearly something didn't go as planned. Retailers are currently sitting on inventory they are embargoed from selling which is something they really don't like to do.
Hi guys!
I want to buy a new phone now. Currently I have a nexus s.And is the best phone that I had ever. I like the support that it have and to many choices that I have with Roms.
What is better now to buy a Galaxy Nexus or should I wait for Htc One X or Galaxy SIII?
Question really is. Do you like stock android, sense or touchwiz? And I think you already answered your question.
Well if u do end up getting a GN deal alert got the GN for 529.99 on both colors for 24 hour sale ....check it out maybe that will help ur decision

This, other than screen choices Hardware wasn't a big deal breaker for me. I want the AOSP feel. I came for a Samsung Infuse 4g. I was tired of waiting around for development. When I was shopping for a new phone I checked out phones the the AT&T GSII, Skyrocket, ect. Sure they had some development, but not too much. So instead of getting another phone where I'd be at the mercy of Samsung and AT&T to get Rom updates. So I made the best decision ever for a phone. I bought me a Galaxy Nexus. Now I don't think I will ever not own a Nexus series phone.
Since you stated you already have a Nexus S, I bet it will be hard for you to got to anything else that will be locked down and skinned. You will probably have withdraws pretty quickly.
In short, unless you are all about the latest and greatest hardware then get a GN, or wait a year for the next Nexus phone.
Yeah I remember when I had a Nexus One and left it for a HTC Sense Device. I mean the Hero and Evo had a lot of development but its nothing like having international users which means more development than just people who have ATT or sprint etc.

You can't compare the device available now to future technology. LOL.
Future phones are always better, at least in terms of specs, so there's no end to the wait. Also, you could never have THE best phone.
PS. If you love the Nexus family then you will love GNex.

It really depends on you and your lifestyle. Like do you travel abroad a lot or do do you hate Verizon (lol)?
If you are in the country most of the time then I don't see why you would go through the trouble of getting an unlocked GSM GNex. They are essentially the same when it comes to end user experience.

What device you get really depends on what you want. With the Galaxy Nexus the hardware might not be as good as other devices, it is miles ahead as far a software goes considering the open nature and dev support. If you don't plan on taking advantage of that and are more concerned with hardware, then get something else. I was tempted by the hardware and went to the G2x and then the GS2, I came back to the Nexus line. I missed the customization I had with my G1 and Nexus One.
While the Galaxy Nexus may be a little behind as far a hardware, but is by no means poor. But with the open software and available drivers, the software is way ahead of other phones.
well lets see the reason I'm debating about the two is this:
Verizon Nexus:
Pros: Service overall in Los Angeles is better. True LTE speeds. And 32gb built in versus the 16gb GSM version. Can get it for $100 on amazon.
Cons: stuck with Verizon and no chance of getting service outside of the US. Monthly bill would be $50 more expensive. And the whole android support issue about source?
GSM NEXUS:
Pros: can use on my $45 T-Mobile plan with 2gbs of data or switch to any GSM carrier I want. Development seems to not be stunted. Never had a problem with service.
CONS: $500 and no local hardware support in case of a problem. 16gb versus the 32gb version.
Lol I can't choose.

So if it costs $50 a month more on Verizon, with a minimum of 24 months is $1200, or $400 more once for the GSM. Not too tough a decision, though the 32GB would be nice.

I would say go with verizon, cause if anything does happen to the phone you'll be covered. The service is great waaaaay better than T-mobile, yea the bill will be a lil higher but you get what you pay for, dependable service. The thing about the support issue is irrelevant, the Nexus(GSM or CDMA) will still be waaaay ahead of any other phone and will continue to get updates rather is be OTA or here at XDA(the dev support on here don't seem like it will die down anytime soon, so you have nothing to worry about with this phone)
If I could go back 3-4 months (or whatever it was) I wouldn't buy a Gnex today. I'm a little disappointed in the lack of fixes from google. We've been officially on 4.0.2 for almost the whole time, while they seem to cater to carrier phones more (verizon gnex).
I see no point in getting a nexus if google puts their phone 2nd to carrier demands. verizon gnex gets fixes and more attention. At this point there are newer and better phones coming out, and the appeal of getting ICS first is over, especially when google doesn't release updates.
It's not like the GS3 won't see CM and a plethora of AOSP roms. How many non aosp roms do we have?
I'd wait for the gs3 at this stage of the game. They are talking about a simultaneous world wide release.
Verizon is about the same as sprint price wise. Assuming you aren't stupid enough to pay $20 for testing when you already pay for data. Use Google voice for texting and grove IP to stretch out your minutes. Add a corporate discount and it might be cheaper.
TMobile is a true value carrier but their service can get pretty ****ty.
It don't matter what phone you get.. You only going to be king of your neighborhood/office for only a couple of months.. Then the next big thing is coming.. Hell people already talking about a Galaxy Nexus 2. Thats the thing that sucks about android.. its never one good phone..
You can: Get a VZW Nexus on contract for 2 years and be stuck.. and then have to pay full retail for the next big thing. (Which already seem like the HTC One and GS3) BUT! No one knows if VZW is going to get the Galaxy Nexus 2. or any HTC One device or even a GS3.. And even when the GS3 come out you wont be able to get it on a carrier to probly 3 months after international release
Or you can: Get the GSM Nexus and always sell it in the next few weeks or month (Since the Galaxy Nexus resell value is about $450-$600 on ebay for a used one)
Plus you can get a Pre-paid carrier like Tmo as the other user said n have ****ty service... or just use ATT or rogers w/e you use and save yourself the upgrade fees and signing a new contract

I think OP should wait for a quad core phone with an updated gpu. it'll way more feature-proof than galaxy nexus.

I think Google's Oct 29th event tagline "the playground is open" secretly means...
That we are going to see several Nexus devices on October 29th.
Think about it. There used to be only one big kid on the block, aka the Galaxy Nexus, but now, every manufacturer can come and play.
I think we will see at least 4 different devices that day from Sony, Samsung, LG, and maybe one or two more.
I hope its not just LG. I don't think I'd buy an LG handset. Even Samsung are not known for their quality control, but LG are even worse.
Personally, I'd hope for a Sony and HTC Nexus. A Sony Nexus with the looks of the current Xperia range, or HTCs with the looks of the One X would be great

Especially the One X look without capacitive buttons. Oh god
They've been using that tagline for quite a while now. It refers to the Nexus platform being OPEN. Not multiple Nexus devices.

Exactly..
This announcement doesn't mean much to me, I'm leaving Verzion in a year and a half when my contract goes, no upgrade prices for me, not paying an ETF, so I'm just watching by.

CDMA - nasty. Kill that technology with fire and kill it fast.
All future Nexus phones should be strictly GSM (LTE is part of this family, so that's fine) but CDMA is terrible. VZW and Sprint gumming up the release of 4.1 is in stark contrast to the whole point of the Nexus line. Google has clearly been in bed with VZW a while now and owning Motorola has furthered that.
Google should focus on Tmobile and such, especially given they launched Android here in the USA. I really really wish they would advertise the Nexus devices more. I get it's a developer phone and to showcase their latest and greatest software, but Google's an advertising company! Spend some cash, sell unlocked phones, push the idea of prepaid being exactly the same as postpaid in almost all respects and get rid of this carrier 2 year contract crap. I know they thought the Nexus One would do this, but the lack of customer support and advertising made sure that wouldn't happen.
I think this would tie in very nicely with opening the playground to multiple phone makers. Shows the advantages of choice, shows unlocked is how it should be, shows you picking a plan seperate from the phone is how it should be, etc.

CDMA is not a bad technology, read up on it sometime. That said, it was the carriers that screwed things up, not CDMA itself.
I think carrier loyalty is utterly retarded.
Tmo launched Android, who cares? Should other carrier customers suffer because of a device being Tmo specific? Tmo BARELY works out here once you hit the outskirts of town. That isn't the customer's fault. Therefore, other carriers are preferable.
What needs to happen is that the phones get sold unsubsidized (and without the BS markup) for all carriers, not just some.

I disagree with the nexus phones should subsidized by all carriers.
They should be sold completely unlocked and full price from Google directly. Screw the carriers. Avoid their 2 year contracts like the plague. Carriers should have nothing to do with these phones at all as far as I am concerned.

I've never had an LG smartphone, but from what i've heard, the build quality is usually excellent. The software is LG's big problem, but as a Nexus, that problem doesn't exist.
Just because Apple puts clever messages in their invitations doesn't mean Google does too.

Hey guys, mainly asking for your opinions so just let them fly.
I currently have a Thunderbolt and my contract is up at the end of November now I am trying to decide what to do next. I was fully anticipating going with the nexus 4 (I was prepared to never buy a non nexus device as long as Google keeps making them). Now that the nexus 4 will not be on Verizon and switching to at&t isn't an option since I get 25% off my bill through work, what would you guys do if you were in my situation? The Gnex is going to be cheap as hell when am eligible for an upgrade and am still considering it, should I be? Do you think Gnex development will slow down dramatically any time soon? I'd also hate to buy a phone with outdated hardware...do you guys run into hardware limitations withe the Gnex?
The only other phone that intrigues me is the galaxy s3. Mainly because it is so popular that I see there being a huge development opportunity there? I looked through the thread for the GS3 and it looks like there plenty of aosp roms and it looks to me like there will be quick updates for it as well. The biggest things I hate about the GS3 are the hardware buttons, I love the customisable soft keys in aosp and think that hard keys are so pointless anymore.
I'm pretty much against moto but if you really think I should look at something they have to offer, let me know.
Any thoughts and opinions are appreciated, thanks in advance.

My advice? Wait and watch. See how the N4 actually pans out as a device itself. It could be a hardware flop for all we know at this point. There were certainly fun hardware issues with the Gnex.
Then wait a bit longer for the HTC DNA. It might turn out to be a barnburner, or something to burn the barn with.
Then make a decision.
I'm not sure if the Moto RAZR i or HD is a good option or not for you.
Its up on you dude. go out & explore something new and one more thing that the GS3 is a pretty good option.

I would wait if I where u. If u really need a new phone I would say the galaxy as 3 is a good choice. I have the gnex with Verizon and I love it. I dont have no issues at all my signal is always good i dont drop any calls or never go into 3g lol. (Must be my area i live in) Only problem I see u having is the storage capacity. The gnex on Verizon is now offered with only 16GB. No more 32GB. But as stated before, wait it out a few more months and see what's around the corner. If anything get a used nexus from craigslist for like 250 bucks to hold u over. That way up don't waist your upgrade on a phone u might regret

25% off of Verizon's prices is still more expensive then Straight Talk or T-Mobile prepaid.... why not get a Nexus 4 anyway and stop signing contracts?

The answer for most people? Coverage.
Coverage, Coverage, Coverage.
If you have a Thunderbolt, that means you still have unlimited data right? So if you're planning on buying a Nexus anyway, you might as well just find an unlocked one (i've seen used ones for ~$150-250) so that you won't have to upgrade. If I remember correctly (and I might be wrong), but Verizon only takes away the unlimited data when you try to upgrade.
No offense, but then he'd be stuck with T-Mobile's network and current lack of LTE. I root for T-Mobile; however, I was miserable when I was using them in suburban Denver, due to relatively inconsistent/slow data.

You can use AT&T's towers via Straight Talk if T-Mobile isn't great for your area. AT&T's HSPA+ network is pretty expansive.
Also, he wouldn't be "stuck" with anything - he could take the SIM card out and flush it down the toilet if the service bothers him. That's the beauty of not having a contract
I had the gnex on Verizon and loved it, except for one crucial issue-battery life. Sure, this was remedied somewhat by getting spare batteries, but this got to be a pain in the ass.
I currently have the Verizon SIII and love it (I find the dev community to be more than adequate). Yet I agree that it is worth waiting for the inevitable next greatest thing. The DNA does look to be badass

Yeah the main reason why I stay with Verizon is coverage and my discount. At&t is the only other viable option, all the others are spotty at best around where I live.
Yeah I never thought of trying to get a gnex off contract. That would probly be the best option seeing that I'm getting married in June and will most likely have to revamp my plan for me and the wife anyway.
My friend just got the s3, he doesn't root or anything like I do but I can still bug him about the battery life at least.
My Thunderbolt has spoken.
Step 1: Buy Straight Talk AT&T Sim
Step 2: Buy Nexus 4
Step 3: Drop Verizon
Step 4: Save money

I've only ever dealt with Verizon so can you include a few more details? Isn't straight talk sprint, but you're saying at&t sim?

The only way I'll be buying a Nexus 4 is if it's gifted to me.
I honestly want to wait it out for MWC and HTC's 2013 lineup.

I'm not real big on the next best thing, the S3 would be in that category for me. Do you stick with touchwiz ROMs or aosp (or aokp)?
I have a sour taste in my mouth for HTC and I'm sick of waiting. I thought I waited for the next best thing with the Tbolt when I was coming from the OG droid. Samsung at least gets it right with their flagship devices. They don't come out with almost an identical phone but with more bugs worked out 3 months later.
I'll wait till Christmas and see what all comes but that's as long as I'll wait.

Straight talk offers an AT&T SIM that gives you unlimited* everything for $45/mo. I think it's actually their most popular plan.
*2-5gb of data before they start to nag, depending on how the stars align for you. Since, you know, unlimited is never actually unlimited in the US anymore...
If you are only with verizon because of the discount, try calling up another phone company and see if they can match the offer or sweeten the pot for you. My brother gets a corporate discount with Bell (here in Canada) and so he called up Rogers (who he's with), and told them that he can get such and such plan for such and such price and asked if he can match it otherwise he'd switch. I forget the specifics of what he got but he was able to get a discount because of it.
Otherwise, just wait like many others said. Perhaps you can get a sweeter phone than the nexus.

don't be annoying like that
To OP: I'm in a similar situation actually, except that I use a GNex right now instead of a TurdBolt. Nobody knows if a Nexus 4 will come to VZN, but I'd probably just buy a GNex until something better rolls around later. And if you do have unlimited data, DO NOT UPGRADE! I cannot fathom losing my unlimited data at this point of my spoiled-data-consumption life. And the development for the VZN GNex is pretty healthy actually. Nothing to complain about, especially when you know you have a reliable connection at the end of the day.
I'm in agreement there, I dumped my tbolt for a gnex and it was a huge step up. You can grab one for fairly cheap off contract now too. I have little to complain about besides battery being a moderate problem. It still beats the tbolt for battery life by quite a bit though, and has given me better data reception. My main urge to upgrade is called 'upgraditis'. For now I'll be trying to treat the symptoms.
