.... where you're doing anything with your phone while it's plugged into the Computer via USB cable, and the connect screen constantly pops up.
It does it on ALL of them, too. Even the Stock ROM, while I was on it a few minutes ago......
Friggin' aggravating!
Could be a driver issue, though I wouldn't know, as I don't run sense. Personally...not that I can't stand it, just lacks the performance of aosp.
Yeah, I'm thinking I'm going back to AOSP, too.
Wonder if VaelPak is still doing AOSP Roms
Hmm I wouldn't know. Not that I have seen as of late.
I have gone back and forth with Sense ROMs, but I have finally found my daily driver. Prime XL 3D is by far the most Snappy Sense ROM that i have ever flashed and it is still only just out of the Beta stages. Currently on RC3. This Sense 3.5 ROM is sick!

Yeah, that looks like a good one to try out, too.
I heard Tommytomatoes classic sense is stable as all hell and has some decent battery. Might want to look into that.

Thanks, but I'm addicted to 3.5 now lol
Anyhow, like I said, it even did it when my phone was stock
I notice that most of the time it happens when I'm using Titanium Backup, My Backup Pro or while trying to sync to my computer, although it does pop up at other times, too.
Might be that the charging/data port on your phone is a little loose. Does it charge fine? If your under warranty try to get a replacement or just open it up your self and see if it is loose.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Nah, it charges fine. And it only does it on Sense ROMS
Its not the rom its the chord.
Why blame it on sense? Your usb plug on computer is probably a little loose.
Wtf guys? Why do people blaming everything on sense?

Umm, because, like I said over and over, it only happens when I run Sense ROMS. I ran MIUI for the last 5 months til Thursday and it never happened one time, except when I'd flash back to my stock/rooted ROM to update Profile, etc....

It's still possible it's your cable. CM7 just doesn't have that popup, and MIUI may not either. The connection still might be getting broken, it's just not as intrusive as the popup window you have on Sense.

Exactly, wtf? Use a different chord AND/OR USB slot on ur puter, if it still does it, blame sense!
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
OMG, I've already done all that. It's not the chord or the USB Connection, ffs.
Just had a brainstorm. You prolly tried this already but ill say it anyway. is it perhaps that your computer is putting the usb port (on comp) to sleep due to inactivity? I know my laptop used to do that as a battery saving measure until I disabled it. I'm determined to figure this out haha

Not bad idea, but noting on my computer is set to sleep at any time, and it happens almost as soon as I plug it in.

sorry to be more. clear first update the pc's usb driver then depending on if you're running a newer sense or older sense upgrade or downgrade the HTC drivers accordingly update for newer sense downgrade for older sense I had a similar issue and it was my driver wasn't properly reading my phone cuz I was on original driver but a newer rom
I just reformatted 2 weeks ago.
Look, if it was the chord or connection, it would have happened when I ran AOSP Roms, but it didn't, including large file transfers, like when I'd reformat my card and move everything back again.
With Sense, the connection drops just moving a ROM to the SD Card
I've only run Sense ROMs on my Evo (had too many problems with basic things not working on AOSP) , and I've never...ever...had this problem. Never seen the problem reported before in any Sense ROM thread, especially not reports of this occuring on a stock Evo. Pretty sure you're problem is your hardware or configuration -- probably on your computer. The reason why it occurs for you only in Sense ROMs is probably because you have HTC Sync running.

It's time I've brought this to light, I can't be the only one?
WiFi, its problematic. Here's the thing -
- WiFi drops when : 40, 50, 60 minutes pass.
- Why? Reasons unknown, I've been told many things with no real answers.
A.) Go into WiFi > Advanced > Sleep Policy : Never.
I always set it to never, that it not the issue at all, I don't wanna hear this.
B.) It's my router, I cannot confirm this. Other devices seem to never drop WiFi so I don't know why mind does.
C.) It can be kernel related? Still cannot confirm this either, its an unknown issue.
- It only occurs on MIUI, Sense 3.5 and some other various roms.
Why? I don't know! It just happens..
- What about Sense 1.0/2.1/3.0, Cm7/9?
Works perfect, I never have WiFi drops. I don't get it..
- So it doesn't make sense? Your absolutely right. I'm damn confused, I don't understand why it works perfect on those opposed to the others.
What can I do? I've relentlessly caught them on logcats and no one answers me. I plan on catching it on screencast shortly and showing a video.
------------------------------------
Please if anyone knows or has these issues I'd like to know.
I want to get rid of this issue.
Other things odd about my phone -
A.) MIUI WiFi never dropped and possibly Sense 3.5.
B.) MIUI and Cm7 seem to act weird on my phone recently, will freeze or get real sluggish.
Thanks..
Edit: I captured it dropping, it happens exactly every 59 minutes.
Skip to 3:07 to see it drop and my phone information.

Sorry, I wish I knew what was going on. I've seen wifi disconnect before for me but only on screen off so I didn't think much of it but I've never seen it disconnect when awake like that. Just curious if it happens on different wifi networks.
Unfortunately yes, not really sure what the issue is. Its like I'm the only person who has ever encountered this odd issue.
Since you've seen most of my information can I ask if you think this might be a wifi driver error? I honestly don't think it is because on the roms I mentioned I never lose wifi.
God I'm just so frustrated on this. It doesn't make sense, pulling my hair lol.

Did you make sure wifi sleep is set to never in the ROM? Also I can try testing it but I might have to find a recovery that supports EMMC backups if any do (gave my 16gig sd card to my friend who needed it more).
I don't think it's a driver or kernel issue or it'd occur across multiple ROMs and more would be affected.

No I didn't. I didn't even know CWM supported it. Amon_ra does and it seems to be quicker too maybe. Good suggestion! Lol. I'm testing the ROM in your video but may not be able to re-create it as I don't really have time. Know any apps to test for wifi drops. I'm hoping to be able to check both kernel logs and logcat. If you want to dump the kernel log after a wifi drop do
adb shell dmesg > klog.txt
with adb. It actually dumps the current contents of /proc/kmsg which is the current kernel log and actually ongoing so it's ever updating.

Mm.. can't do anything that requires a computer. I only have the Droid Incredible, my computer died a bit after I rooted my phone.
I'm currently on Nightlie ICS, I can try getting a log at again if you want but anything computer related can't do.
For some reason I feel I'm the only person with this issue, I've searched Google low and high but people had other wifi issues unrelated to mine.
Just had a thought though.. I don't know much about the hardware but you think the way some of these devs made the rom mess with my wifi driver?
I honestly don't expect an answer or find for this issue but at least get it recognized.

Not likely, I don't think anyone did wifi tweaks and it works for most people which is what's weird.
But to get the log I'm requesting you can go a similar route with terminal emulator commands:
dmesg > /sdcard/klog.txt and link it
Precede dmesg with busybox if it doesn't recognize the command on your rom, so
busybox dmesg > /sdcard/klog.txt
Does clutch have this issue (based on warm so I expect so) or Nil's 3.5 ROM maybe?

Every sense 3.5 and MIUI, I think Pons Cm7.2 did too but I'm unsure.
So in TE - I type -
dmesg/sdcard/log.txt? I've never really got a log like this and I learned about logcat my own. Hate asking nooby questions.
Edit : got it to work on ics, looked at it but should I type that in after the wifi drop or during?

You aren't the only one its likely a large majority of users upgraded phones. I've never run into the issue but I recall people on Nils BGS roms (primary Sense 3.5 rom I used) had this issue. I know I read about the issue in other threads but nobody could resolve it since all the usual methods fail. You may be a minority but this has been an issue for some since last summer. I would say most upgraded by now so you only appear to be alone.
You sure snoop? My wifi deal is odd.. well at least I wasn't alone I suppose till now.
Anyway
- http://db.tt/ZF9c10Wb ← Klog1
- http://db.tt/P8VA9Ngw ← Klog2
Klog1 captured during the wifi drop
Klog2 captured after wifi drop
Both say something about wlan and I saw a lot of disconnect and sleep something.
Edit: Every time I Google my issue it was me I found complaining about the issue lol.

At post #1619, one user mentioned using an app called "Wifi Static" resolved their issue. Another mentions that setting their router to static ip connection resolved it.
Edit: Bottom of the page, there's the specific post

Okay I do see it, what they sounds like it. So ..does it automatically assign a static IP? Not sure how to work the app, probably will read the about or FAQ.
Let me reflash a 3.5 rom real quick and try this.
As long as it works.. but what's odd is its only MIUI and sense 3.5.
Don't have this issue with OG GB or Cm7 GB, even unofficial ics.
From what I read they are saying it doesn't connect right between routers and phone? But how can it be so many routers? Its gotta be deeper than that.
Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk 2
Idk man, it's been one of the most difficult to identify since it only affected a few people on the Inc. The only thing I could manage to guess is something in those roms doesn't configure correctly with certain routers. No one ever asked "which router do you have?" so that could be why it went unsolved for so long.
I don't know anything about Static ip connections or anything involved with changing wifi settings. This may help detail the different settings:

Yeah I think I got a static IP down pat.
Thank you for looking, guess HTC's GB just doesn't like most routers.

Hi there,
Not sure if anybody else has experienced this. Suddenly my S3 stopped being able to be recognized as a device by any computer. It will charge when plugged into USB. I have checked and fast charge isn't turned on. I have uninstalled the drivers from all my computers, I've tried this on a mac and a PC.
I'm on Task's AOKP Rom. But I have tried other Roms and the problem still persists. So I'm thinking it's a problem with my S3. Right now it's very annoying in that I have to always pop out my SD card to transfer files to my phone.

The fact that you changed ROMs makes this less likely, but maybe you have a kernel that has Fast Charge on?

Strange, I remember seeing that option on the stock TW rom, but I can't seem to find it in Task's AOKP rom, I noticed you're on AOKP too, would you mind giving a bit more detail on where that option is?
I know this isn't the perfect solution, but if you ever get yourself into a situation where the wire won't work and you really need to transfer files and you're on reliable wifi give AirDroid a try. Free app, that allows you to transfer files from a web browser. Saved me many many times. Sorry I can't help with the original issue!

I had the same problem with my stock/rooted ATT s3. Tried a multitude of cables and settings, but what finally worked was a bit of advice from another site. Power the phone off, pull the SD card, and try again. For me this worked. I do not have a good explanation why, but it ended a good bit of frustration.
Good luck to you.

I've been having the same trouble, and tried this and other "fixes" (like in the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2049834) but nothing seems to work.
My situation is perhaps a little different, but this is what I know:
New Rogers SGS3 (I747M) - never rooted, or anything fancy
Plugged it into Kies the first time, and told me there was a Jelly Bean update
Did the update.
Now no computer will detect it - 2 PCs and a MAC.
I've installed and uninstalled drivers off and on for weeks
Tried Odin mode and Odin on 2 PCs
Doesn't even show up in the Windows Device list.
ADB doesn't see it (I assume because the driver doesn't see it)
Nada.
I only have one cable - the one that came with it.
People often talk of making sure it's in MTP mode, but I have no USB settings in my "settings" (JB is different?) though I think I can set it through the PhoneUtil suggested in the link above.
Created an account here (and watched the Noob video!) just to ask this question. All I can think of is that I must have broken something on the phone. Does anyone have any more suggestions or should I just take the phone back to Rogers and say it's broken?
Thanks a bunch!
Ian

First and foremost - thanks.
But nothing happens. Uninstalled everything AND used the registry editor to get rid of everything "Samsung" and "Kies". I've now noticed, that I don't even get the windows "da-dump" when you plug a USB device in.
It seems there are no SGH-I747M specific drivers (are there?), just the "Samsung USB driver for mobile phones". Is that right?
So, I'm still stuck. The thing charges, but NOTHING else.
Any more ideas?

I took my phone into the sprint store this evening because the usb port was starting to act up. The tech resoldered the connections and the phone started charging the way it was supposed to again. I had flashed FC09 modem, MTD stock deodexed and Marcusants nyan kernel that shows FC09 as the baseband. I did this of course so the tech could run his diagnostics and it wouldn't look out of the ordinary. The tech I worked with already knows I root and even remembered me from my last USB port replacement but that's another interesting story in of itself.
Anyway, when I got home I set about setting it back to my previous set-up. At this point my battery meter showed 70% before I restated into CWM. I started the restore proccess from CWM and put the phone in my pocket without even thinking since I had some work to do. I pulled the phone out about an hour later when I remembered it only to find a black screen. The phone had died somewhere in that hour or so. I thought it was no big deal and I would just charge it and all would be good. I connected it to the charger and got no lights of any sort and no reaction. I tried 4 different chargers all of which work perfectly with other phones in the house to no avail.
I then tried to hook it up to my computer and got no response when attempting to reach download mode with the only 2 data cables I have; one is a radioshak and the other is the stock sammy cable. I took the battery and SD out and let it sit for about an hour. I hooked the phone back up to the cable with no battery and attempted download mode with no response. I'm at a loss as for what to do now.
I can't get to download mode and I can't take it back to the sprint store because the guy I'm sure will just blame me for rooting my phone and messing with it.
Now what??????? Could I have actually bicked it with a CWM restore that maybe died in the middle? Or could he have ****ed up my USB port for data and now im screwed on Odin.
Edit: I forgot to add the tech did what he said was a full diagnostic on it before I left and he said it passed with flying colors.
There are a large amount of threads on restore a brick in the QA forum. Try using search terms like: "hard brick" to locate them. There are good posts in them that may be of assistance. I can't recall much of the info from memory, hence my search suggestion.
Next time you go to do anything in recovery, don't have anything planned for that 3-15mins. That phone should have been burning up your pocket with the restore and screen on the entire time. I'm not sure how you didn't notice it, lol.
Maybe the battery is dead and the port stopped working again, try a charged battery

Sounds like the USB port went out again.

As far as I'm concerned this HAD to have been the problem. As you can see in OP I did most of the things listed in the brick threads along with the stickies.
I talked to someone on IRC about the possibility of making a download jig but my soldering person (my old man) wasn't available in time.
Sooooo. I took it back to the sprint store and simply did another TEP claim and had absolutely no troubles. In fact the guy apologized to me and said he's still getting better at his soldering skills. Not the first time I have had a USB port charge but give no data access after being soldered by them.
The batterry is fine and is sitting in the refurb epic I just got back today.
Now I have a new problem. I'm trying to root the new epic and am having trouble getting it recognized in Win 7 Pro X64. I d/l the latest drivers from thier website and have tried multiple different ways of install/uninstall including specifically giving it Admin priveleges. I have also tried unistalling drivers and installing keis using same method with same nogo.
After fiddling with SamSucks software I uninstalled all of it and d/l Heimdall.
I followed the directions in the readme.txt to install drivers and all it could find was unknown USB device which it couldn't install drivers for.
All install and uninstalls were done with restarts and ccleaner in between to make sure of complete deletion.
Could I have gotten another bad data port phone that only charges?
The only way that works every time for me is to turn on USB debugging, uminstall all drivers from the computer and then allow Windows update to search for drivers....can take like 30 minutes sometimes to get all that are needed but it always works for me.

Now It seems like I'm not getting any data connection at all between the phone and computer. I'm on my third USB cord and I can't even get the phone to ask about mounting the SD card to transfer data to the computer. This just seems odd from a straight from Sprint refurb.
Edit: To make things even weirder I just hooked up my wife's Samsung feature phone and it gets recognized almost instantly.

By doing this I'm assuming you mean go into the device manager, selecting update driver, then Search automatically for updated driver software. Is this what you mean? I had tried this without USB debugging before your suggestion and got no dice. I just tried it with USB debugging and still no dice. Though it didn't take very long to fail so I could be doing something wrong.

No. Choose uninstall driver. Then if it fails try a different port. If it is a desktop computer then only use the ports in the rear.

This is exactly what I have been doing. I have tried all 6 ports on the back with nothing plugged in and all 3 ports on my netbook. The odd part to me is no matter what port on what computer I plug into, the phone does not seem to recognize it is plugged into a usb port.

If you tried a total of 9 different ports then it sounds like a hardware issue on the Epic again.
I took the phone back to the sprint store thus evening and the tech had all the same problems I did. He tried several cords and ports to no avail. He ordered me another epic.
Its hard to believe they let these things out of the factory in such poor shape.
Here's to hoping I get a good one this time. *fingers crossed. I'm already so tired of stock rom, I miss my CM7.

Guess ya never know lol. Good luck on the next one.
OMG I think I'm going to go nuts. I brought my fourth epic home last night and proceeded to odin CWM. Everything went perfect, or so I thought, as it said it passed. Now the damn thing is completely unresponsive and none of the tricks to get it into d/l mode work. How is this even possible. They did a battery of tests on it before I left the store and it passed. I didn't think Odin had the capability to mess up the phone this much. Any ideas on wth is going on are welcome at this point.
How old is your computer? Maybe its not sending all the data and maybe just a portion of it

I'd have to agree with phonehunter59 on this one. It sounds like something is going wrong on the computer's end of things or maybe Odin.
It could also be the version of odin you are on, maybe it's too old

Will I'm not sure what exactly went wrong but I did get into download mode finally. I used the old voodoo "magic button" coupled with pressing the power button. I was then able to enter download mode and flash. I think the problem this time was bad settings in Odin. I only unchecked restart and not everything else. As soon as I unchecked everything I was able to successfully flash CWM.
As for my computer, it's a QX6850 sitting on a 680i. About 6 or 7 years old or so, but it still gets the job done pretty good. OS is 64 bit windows 7. I used the version of Odin found in Kenny's rooting sticky in general.

Glad to hear you got things working
Trying to pull everything off my internal SD from my t999 to place into my t999L, and if I attempt to copy more than one folder, I see a never ending "calculating time required to copy". Ive tried 2 different computers running win7 32bit. One was just recently reformatted too.... Drivers are installed because I just flashed twrp to my t999L
Running vanilla root box latest nightly

It's fussy, that's for sure. The particular driver you are using could make a difference. I don't use MTP much because it's more trouble than it's worth, but the drivers in my signature were working alright, the first link.
I just use FTP now (FTPDroidPro+FileZilla). Never any problems. The only time I would want MTP is for copying several GB of data. But since I back up often (and upload pictures to Dropbox), this situation rarely happens.

FTPDroidPro is the FTP server that sits on the phone. Do not remember if there is a free version, but probably, since, well.... Pro. FileZilla is the client and I think it's open source. Either way, it's free.
My router is terrible, and I can still transfer 4MB/s. With a nice router, I'm sure it's faster than USB 2.0. FTPDroidPro also has support for root access. That is incredibly useful.

The only thing I can think of is that this is either a 4.2.2 issue or related to Vanilla Rootbox exclusively. Just tried your driver and still the same issue. Guess I have no other choice is to try your app combo and see what happens. This is most frustrating, as my music and pictures are stuck on my old sgs3 and would rather not live without them
In case there isn't a free version of Aerowinders, this is what I use, and it does have a free counterpart if you just want to try it our way.

If you need any help setting up, let me know.
There's probably nothing wrong with your phone or the computer. I've had tons of issues, too. One more thing you could try would be to make sure those drivers are fully uninstalled (through device manager also), and install the old 1.4.6.0 ones. These old ones probably won't work with your LTE version, though. Just another thought. I personally think FTPing is the better solution. It's faster than digging out the cable, for me.

Never had an issue with MTP until today. Honestly I kinda grew to like it more than the old UMS method, as the phone was still usable. Just installed ftpdroid and filezilla now, trying to see if I can get this working, let alone access the internal storage.
Alright, so far, I will give this a 4 out of 5 stars. only 4 because I'm not quite familliar with the interface and it is pretty intimidating. I do however LOVE that I can simply resume the transfer process should my phone reboots, which it did, so I don't have to start all over. Pretty sexy.
If you have some kind of guide or easy way of explaining this, I'd love to see/hear it. appears it's about 2.5mb/s, which is the average speed of my data plan for my ISP, so Idk if it goes off the router or my upload/download speed limit.
@DocHoliday77, I will look into your method, but if you could explain it a bit to me that would be great. I know little to nothing about FTP.
Super simple. Make sure you're on wifi.
Open the app and start the server.
Open Explorer on your computer and in the address/path bar enter exactly what it says in the app.
Ftp://192.168.x.x:2121
Enter pw.
That's it.

You could also transfer the files to a MicroSD Card or USB Thumbdrive (via OTG) and then do the same on the new phone.

OTG = On The Go
I believe its a usb cable you can use to connect storage devices to your phone.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong on that please.

Yes, it's female USB - male micro USB connector. For connecting any USB device to a micro USB device (ie. the phone).

OTG is USB On-The-Go, aka USB Host mode. You can plug in USB devices into your phone and use them directly. I was suggesting to plug a a thumbdrive into your OTG cable into your phone and copy the files to it using ES File Explorer or similar.
Ah ok I think I understand. Well I tried the ftp method yesterday and pretty sure I pulled everything I needed off of it. Slowly migrating to the new device. Don't need orphan data and such.
Using mtp on the new device seems to work well, though haven't tried to pull anything off it, just push. Will test later tonight. Perhaps getting this refurb'd device was smart in the long run besides just LTE? Funny how things work...

hey guys, i have a pretty big problem with my OP3.
whenever i copy a lot of files (like mp3s) or very big files (movies) via usb from phone to pc or from pc to phone i basically always get an error somewhen during the copy process.
if it are a lot of small files most of them get copied and i just have to try the missing ones again. but bigger files are nearly impossible to copy due to this stupid error.
the error occurs on differnt points of the copy progress bar so its not always the same. i guess if i would try it 100 times i might have luck somewhen and be able to copy a big file.
i really dont know what to do about this...
i am running Freedom OS 1.7, but already had this problem on privious versions.
pc is win10, usb driver installed ofc.
if you need to know something else just ask.
Have you tried stock oxygen os?
Omicron Technics
if i remember right the problem was also on stock. but i only was few hours on stock when phone was new. but i copied some music and also got the error i think.
and freedom basically is stock anyway, just debloated.
Using USB 2.0 or 3.0?
Have you tried different PCs? Maybe different cables? If you have the chance, of course.

Yeah, USB 3.0's are known to cause issues with pretty much anything that isn't a 3.0 device.
Most often related to drivers, but sometimes also to power delivery.
Let's just hope things get better when 2.0 dies out and everything runs the same standard (again).
