Do either Verizon or Sprint sell phones outside the USA? I know there are other countries that use CDMA but I don't know if they sell those phones.
Verizon's trophy is an International phone, it WORKS everywhere as it has a GSM mode, too.
I have the HTC Arrive on Sprint (US) and would only need English support,
Currently running 7.10.7720.68 and 1.25.230506.1 Bootloader but the latest I have seen is 4.03.651.03

I need windows 6.5 for Canada Telus HTC Touch Pro 2. Have they released a version for Canada? If so, where could I find it?
I've been trying to upgrade my OS and when I attempt to download the update it gives me an error saying "this download is not suitable for this device" I believe it is because the download is for european phones.
In addition to this question, has anyone had any success unlocking the Touch Pro 2 from Telus to Rogers?
A quick response would be muchly appreciated.
Thank you!!!
ROMs are carrier specific, for the most part. If it isn't on the HTC website, only Telus would be releasing a new ROM. Most carriers have stopped development since the phone has been discontinued. Not likely you'll see a new OEM ROM if one hasn't come out already.
that sucks!! I don't understand why the rest of the world is compatible with this upgrade but canadian clients arn't? doesn't make much sense to me. but thank you for the reply

Complain to your carrier. The stock ROMs are locked to the carrier they are released to by design. If Telus doesn't have an update for it on their website, then there isn't one available. As far as unlocking it to use on another cellular network, you would have to obtain an unlock code from your carrier. This would SIM unlock your device, allowing you to use any GSM carrier with your phone.
Dear All
I have a problem and am sure some one in XDA Forums can help me out ::crying:
I am from New Delhi, India and I bought a used unlocked Samsung Galaxy Note ( SHV-E160L , U+LTE ) in Seoul ,Korea.
The seller assured that the phone is unlocked....
My 3G enabled Indian SIM card works fine here in Korea on International roaming but was advised by a friend that this model will not work in India.
Can anyone please advise whether this model would work on GSM networks in India ?
In case it does not work can some Custom ROM be downloaded to make it work for Indian Service Providers ?? I am a novice in terms of flashing the ROMS and Kernel versions etc. thus worried ....
Any help/suggestions in the above regard would be sincerely appreciated.... Awaiting your suggestions !!
Ams
Hello Amit,
Did you receive any updates for your query ? Were you able to use U+ LTE version of Korean Note (E160L) on Indian GSM Network?
I'd be happy if there is any other Happy User of E160L on Indian GSM networks Please let me know, as my friend too is planning to buy one.
Thanks!
If anyone else too is looking for the answer:
Yes!! SHV-E160L on stock binary worked perfectly fine on Indian 3G/2G GSM network (Airtel Karnataka).
Baseband Version: E160L.FH02.1442.LT
Build number: IMM76D.UH24

Sorry to ask this like a month later, but I had a similar question as the OP. Why wouldn't it be possible if I only wanted to use my phone in Europe on the GSM bands? I've been using it with a ROM for the international phones and it works fine. But I was also wondering if I could flash the newest firmware and 4.4.3 upgrade to use some of the newer ROMs for the international versions, like ARHD 10.2.

HI! Can you give me more details? I've just received the verizon variant (bought from an online store) in Europe.. I would like to "convert" it to international version so I could get official updates from HTC via OTA. IS that possible?

I don't think you can convert it over to the international edition, although I could be wrong, since some of the partitions, firmware, and actual hardware (like the CDMA receiver) are different. Given how buggy just some of the ROMs are with the int'l kernel built in, I would be worried about bricking the phone trying to actually convert it to be able to receive OTAs.
What you can do check out some of the ROMs that let you pick which variant to install. After you boot that up once, you'll probably need to reflash the stock VZW kernel (or read around and see if Verizon users got other kernels to work with the ROM). It's kind of trial and error. A lot of times I ended up without wifi or service until I found a kernel that worked.
For updates, (this part sucks) you'll have to wait for the Verizon phones to receive them in the US. Someone usually makes a set a files you can flash since we can't get the OTAs for VZW here and a lot of people don't want to go through the hassle of going back to close to stock to get them. Make a backup, flash those, and go on your way!
But, you'll have to follow the updates and such for VZW phones and then just use a ROM to make it like an int'l versions.
I've been running the int'l version of Paranoid Android and before that ARHD and it's been fine. I used venom and I think n8 before that but it would only install the VZW version so I had to use ROM Cleaner and take out a lot of crap. The roaming triangles were annoying enough that I gave up on venom even though I like the ROM.

THanks for the reply. I think I will return it back.. I wanted a stock experience (eg: when HTC launch an update I DONT Need to wait for verizon to release an update).
I paid lots of money (~700$) for a contract free phone and got a branded phone (not sim-locked by branded is enough) . What a sh*t situation.

Oh God, I assumed you got a Verizon one because it was cheap. I picked mine up in the US for $150 so I don't care so much about having to wait since I saved so much money. If you paid full price I would definitely return it and get an int'l one instead!

Nope, the problem is that I wanted the 32 GB version and most of the online shops had only the 16 GB one. Maybe there is no international 32gb htc one m8..
PS: the retailer's product page (cel.ro) doesn't say anything regarding branding, even the photos are of a htc one m8 unbranded phone.
I am a bit late here. Can i flash a European custom rom on verizon M8? I want to completely get rid of verizon bloatware/services . If yes then while installing custom rom in aroma can i select WWE instead of verizon?? Summary of my question is can i use a WWE European custom rom on version M8??

You should only use custom ROMs that specifically support the Verizon variant. If the option is given in AROMA for carrier version (and VZN is one of those), its got nothing to do with what carrier/region you are located in, but refers to the version M8 you have, which is still Verizon. But you should check the specific ROM thread for details, comments by VZN version users, etc. as devs don't always setup AROMA the same way.
This thread is really old (almost 2 years) and we know a lot more now. FYI, I know its not what you specifically asked, but the topic of the thread is converting to Euro version by flashing firmware, RUU etc. And quite simply and frankly, do not attempt to flash Euro firmware, RUU, or change the CID/MID to do so. Flashing Euro firmware on the VZN variant will result in a radio brick, and the damage may be permanent!
hi there
i have an htc M8 Sprint Device (831C) and i want to change it to a normal stock M8.
I'm in Turkey, I've bought the phone from outside of the country and i can't use some features like wifi hotspot because of the devise is unlocked version. in other words, i want to get rid of Sprint M8 rom.
Is there any way to do this? ıf its possible, how?

Your best bet is probably to unlock the bootloader, and load a custom ROM (that specifically supports the Sprint variant), rather than a "stock" M8 ROM.
Reason being, the Sprint version is a CDMA (includes both GSM and CDMA radios) and actually different hardware from the other "GSM" phones (that you are calling "stock"). Trying to "convert" your Sprint version (installing "international" firmware, radios, etc.) is a very bad idea, as it probably won't work, and might even brick the phone.
Quite frankly, you probably bought the wrong variant for your country/region. Just about any version except Sprint/Verizon would have been better, and could be converted to be the "international" version.
oh got it. i think the custom rom is my only chance. thank you for your interest...
Hello. A question here. i have VERIZON sim-unlocked phone. I live in ukraine. So can i get s-off and install on it WWE firmware (or get a WWE x.xx.401.xx RUU) - thus convert it to WWE version to use all available roms and get OTA updates for xx.xx.401.xx version? And still catch the signal/3G and so on? Or it will cause problems and i need to stick to Verizon firmware and roms?
No.
Like I told you in another thread, you can't do it. But I didn't explain why.
Verizon and Sprint are CDMA models, WWE firmware is for GSM models. They are different devices.
It won't work.
As xunholys explained, the hardware is different (Verizon vs. WWE) and therefore the firmware is different. If you try to fully convert, it either won't work, or it will brick the phone.
Your best bet is probably to use a WWE based custom ROM, and change the kernel to make it work on Verizon. At least that is what a Verizon owner (using his phone on a non-VZN network) stated. You might check the Verizon specific forum section for more detail.
But you will not be able to add full "WWE" band compatibility. The band support is built into firmware; and the firmware is not cross-compatible.
