Groove IP settings!! - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I need help with the Groove IP applications! No matter what I do, the person I call always hears an echo.. I used echo reduction but then they said I was breaking up! Anyone know of a good setting adjustment?? Please help!!

I'm also interested in what settings people here are using with GrooveIP on the G2/DZ. So if you're reading this and running Groove, let us know what all your settings tweaks are and what kind of voice quality/problems you have.
It would also help if everybody (specially the OP) mentioned the approximate Speedtest speeds they're getting, and whether they're using WiFi or 4g, etc.
I just installed Groove the other day, and I'm still waiting for a new DSL/landline to be installed at my location so that I can do some testing with it. (and stop "borrowing" a neighbor's crappy WiFi - friggin' AT&T disconnected my DSL when I got my landline number ported to my cell...grrr) So I haven't really got to test it yet, but I will report back when I get a chance.

[Q] Freezing your account - does it block out any part of the phone?

I'm traveling overseas in September for over half a month and want to call Sprint and get them to freeze my account while I'm gone. I understand the monthly fee is $8.99 (don't know if they will pro-rate it or what) which is much better than paying for that month of service that you hardly use.
Since I'm going out of the country and won't be able to use my EVO, I'm assuming I can freeze my account but still use the phone, just without any mobile wireless capabilities.
The wifi should be able to look up stuff online, check email, and look at Google Maps, correct? I just want to make sure there's not some weird kind of thing that Sprint would lock out all the features of your phone.
Bottom line: you can freeze your account but still use all features besides making calls and sending texts via mobile broadband, right? But all apps (besides GPS) can work off wi-fi, unless the app is specifically designed to use mobile broadband only.
Thank you to anyone who helps!
get you a google voice number and you'll have a phone as long as you're on wifi too

I thought that would be the case too, but GV relies on the phone's non broadband capabilities - so you need mobile broadband/phone line for it to work.
I thought I was being clever and found away to never use minutes by using GV to dial to landlines but that's not the case.
I would venture to say that unless you are traveling somewhere that has cdma coverage, your normal phone related functions won't work anyway since you won't have reception. You really shouldn't need to pay a fee to basically disable the phone portion of your phone since on the evo, you have the option to have the airplane mode exclude wifi from the radios it disables. I traveled to the UK back in april and can attest to the fact that the wifi on my old pre worked without a hitch and I can also confirm that it did not receive signal either so there were no incoming calls or sms messages to worry about. All that said, you shouldn't have any trouble with wifi. As long as you're on wifi, google maps should work just fine as well.

OK thanks, I didn't want to assume anything, because, you know, I really wouldn't be surprised if a company froze more than just sending/receiving texts/calls capability (in addition to web surfing obviously).
I just don't want to pay almost $100 for 2 weeks of service out of the month - so I need to give em a call and see if they can freeze it for 2 weeks and charge me half as much, that way I can save a little cash.

Well that would be even better, I do hope you're right!
Any VOIP should work on wi-fi... damn skype and Fring shenanigans... I was so looking forward to that when I deployed... would have made it so much easier to communicate with my wife. (shes not real big on technology and my short fuse of trying to setup/explain how to do new things sucks) lol...
You basically sumed it up, all apps should work fine unless they need specific network support. In my past experiences with deploying for short terms, it was actually just easier to suck it up and pay the bill instead of downgrading service. They don't always get it right and if you end up coming back early it can be a PITA to get it back on..

Thanks, I was thinking about the same thing about it being such a pain in the ass to deal with it as well... and when I finally get back stateside at least I'll definitely have service.
Although Google Voice requires the mobile network for phone, it uses data for sms and I expect mms. So if you had WiFi access you would have texting available.

[Q] Wifi Calling

Please don't spam me if I say something stupid, Im just a noob here. Also don't spam me if I post in the wrong thread. (only in the epic forum will I ever have to leave something like that before a normal quesiton/post)
Okay, so I saw this on the xda news thingy. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1142448 . Someone on the vibrant forums was able to get wifi calling working. Could this be ported to or work on our epics?
Looks promising, but I see some users are getting charged for land line minute usage and others not. Also see some grandfathered plans are being changed upon usage of Wifi Calling. This goes for T-mobile customers of course.
I currently make my Wifi calls with gv + sipdroid without have to deal with any of these hassles.
BTW - Running 2.2 Froyo, have not played to much with ginderbread integrated VOIP features yet.
I feel like ive heard of tmobile being one of the only carriers with wifi calling... But im not sure, maybe we cant do it and they can but it was disabled... Just my 2¢

VOIP/SIP calls with native ICS client

we recently found out that ics allows native voip calling, which is awesome if you want to save craploads of money. but did anyone here ever manage to get it working? the problem is that i hear nothing, the receiver can hear me just fine.
it's so weird because all third party clients i tried work flawlessly, csipsimple for instance. this app in particular is really, really nice, but it muddles ics with that gingerbread look, i'd prefer the native client if it only worked. so there must be something im doing wrong. but what?
It could be a lot of things that have been setup wrongly or your voip provider doesn't allow it.
For me, I have it working perfectly on gnex. The provider I am using is poivy (poivy.com).
They provide details of how to setup their service in voip capable devices. I simply copied the values from the info page they provided and was able to make it work after some failed attempts.
I found that there is a tricky part in process where you have to setup the Optional Settings in the SIP Account Details. I had to enter the Authentication username. Its simply your user name as you entered it in the Username field in the same settings page above the Optional Settings. Its seems odd to have the user name entered twice but that did for me.
If all fails, try setting up an account at poivy.com, they give you free calls to US numbers. That would iron out that your provider doesn't allow you to setup a voip on something other than the software they provide.
Let me know if u need more details or help...
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
im mostly using wifi so the provider can go screw itself, but i tested it outside the building with csipsimple and luckily it works, phew. its only this google thing that i could never get to work ... i mean the data is fine, it finds my account and the call goes through, but its of no use since the receiver does not hear a thing, i hear him though. i researched before and overread something about "it uses the wrong mic" and there was talk about a fix, but i couldn't find something concrete.
I use this and it works, but it’s a very bare-bones SIP client and doesn’t implement the SIP standards as well as other SIP clients. I hope Google pays attention to this feature and makes it more robust going forward.
I see, at least its not totally broken lol. Which version of ICS you are running? I am on 4.03 (Custom rom, Roman's AOKP M4) and have tested it with two sip accounts and it works just fine...
let me know if you need anything else.
cheers
im on aokp b28. i tried it with two handsets, nexus & s2. speaking works, the call receiver hears, but i get nothing back, i hear nothing. i tried it with intervoip and voipcheap.

Try speaker mode, screen off could be trimming back your throughput
well, as it turns out nothing works anymore from today on, not even csipsimple, which always did work fine. in my frustration i downloaded a crappy looking client from the providers webpage that gives me forceclosures every now and then, but that one does the job somehow. maybe they changed something in the protocol or something, who knows. still, thank you all so much!
I just purchased the VoIP service from VoIP.ms and it works flawlessly with the built-in sip feature on my galaxy nexus.
If Dell Voice worked with my Bluetooth headset, I would have stuck with it, but VoIP.ms is working so well, a few bucks a month is worth the extra features and built-in stability.
maybe it has somthing to do with how my wifi is configured but whatever i tried i couldnt get it to work. very strange.

Sometimes firewalls will block the ports needed for voip. Have you tried on a different wireless network or your data plan?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
it works with 3rd party apps, well, one worked, the app from the provider itself. i think i blew a couple of bucks already with all the trying, i'll just pass on this. it would be nice to use the native ics feature but i don't see what im doing wrong there. the account-data is right, the connection is made, i hear the receiver but he cant hear me. i tried it with two phones under two wifi configs and it never changed. im starting to think maybe its the voip provider wanting to push its own app, maybe they made something to prevent other apps from working properly. not even csipsimple worked although i never had problems with it on other providers. but this one is so damn good for mobile connections, calls here cost normaly 20-25 cent/min, now im paying 2 ... so i'll take the ugly gingerbread plugin for now.
Is there a difference when using the Native ICS VOIP or something like GrooveIP?
I use my Inc 2 as pseudo landline with SIP calling. Google Voice and PBXes is how I did it. Really simple actually since you can have sipdroid make a gtalk truck with your Google voice. Everything else that needs to be done is the trunk password needs to be your Google password and you need to setup inbound and outbound routing to the proper extension. Then setup internet calling to point to your pbxes account and make sure it connects. And inbound and outbound calling to and from your Google voice number works just as if it were an activated phone.

Just wondering. I have been using native SIP function on my SGS2 with voip.ms service as well. I am running a modded AOSP version of ICS and I noticed if I set to keep alive I find the battery drains heavy. Like 8%/hour with no use. This is the only way to ensure I have no missed calls. In battery stats it shows that Android OS is the culprit.
Are you finding that your battery drains faster also?
When I use Dell Voice I have no battery drain issues at all.

I don’t have this issue using the stock ROM on the GN—and I always send keep-alives 24/7. That said, I tend to be near Wi-Fi most of this day, so I don’t know if this has something to do with it.

No additional battery drain has been noticed since adding VoIP to my phone, even with the "receive calls " option turned on.
I'm on WIFI 100% of my day. I'm not sure if that makes a difference.

I wonder why it drains my battery so fast. something is happening.
When I use Dell Voice or any other sip client like csip this does not happen.
maybe it is stopping my phone from deep sleep.

Use an app like betterbatterystats and see if you have any rogue wakelocks.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
all voip services that ive tried on my galaxy s3 with "receive calls" enabled will prevent the phone from going into deep sleep. Makes sense because the SIP client needs to contact the SIP server every 30 seconds or so otherwise the SIP server will drop the client. (as i understand it)
Groove IP doesnt wakelock the phone, but I dont like the backend. That is, you can only have one client logged into google chat (which is how groove ip works) at a time. Also it does not support 911 services. both huge issues for any serious investment
SIP is much more flexible aside from the wakelock requirement

WiFi Calling: REG09 "Missing911 Address" Error

I still cannot use my WiFi calling feature of the SII ANYWHERE outside the USA! TMO touts the wifi calling feature as a method to reduce roaming charges when traveling abroad but the f$$%king app fails to work! I continues to alternate between red and blue with the MISSING 911 ADDRESS error constantly popping up. TMO says my address is in their system and their tech support is clueless.
Stock ROM. Same problem on my HTC One S, so def a TMO issue!
Anyone have any solutions?
Hey I'm a t- mobile rep you can fix this in a few ways! You can go to a tmobile store and ask them to update your 911 address or you can call into customer care and ask them. Customer care is 611 on a tmo phone

As a rep in can tell you the only reasons for wifi calling not working are not having a 3g-g sim card or not actually having your 911 address right I work in a location where wifi calling is absolutely necessary so I have fixed this a lot

You will definitely not be able to use WiFi Calling with a non-T-Mobile SIM card. It needs to register onto the T-Mobile network (via WiFi) in order to work so w/o the proper SIM it will not work.

I've called tmobile reps and they keep saying the same thing. I am awaiting the end of my contract and then I will be ditching tmobile for att with both my 5p man firm and all my personal lines. Sorry but its insane. The only fox is constant reboots and account resets and my people have better things to do with their time.
I used the t-mobile website to fix mine. under the 911 address like everybody is saying. A few things you need to know about updating it online tho, i thought i would point out that other haven't. When i went online to change the 911 address, it had the address already in the space. It still wasn't working, so i deleted the whole address and retyped the address exactly the same then saved. It can take up to 1 hour for the phone to recognize the new address so don't go changing every 10 minutes saying its not working. After the hour wait, it is recommended to reboot the phone for the changes to be finalized. If you follow these steps, it should work. "no guarantees" but worth a try.

Data Profile not updating??

okay i had perfect 3g connection before i had youtube streaming fast and webpages loading really fast. Now my 3g is no bueno i have connection time outs and slow downloads speeds and buffering is all i get when trying to watch youtube over 3g. So what ive done so far
First i went straight back to stock and factory resetted everything on Gingerbread and did my OTA official updates than did update prl and profile in settings status update but my data connection over 3g is still slow so i did the next thing
##72786# SCRN reset
##3282# (checked all my settings) Device ip says 0.0.0.0 dont know if thats right the other info dont know if thats right either only able to VIEW and EDIT seperate fields one at a time
##MSL#(even put in a new MIEID number from sprint)
then onstart up hands free activation is running sucessfully it updates prl and check for firmware.I then open up sprint zone to chck voice and data both are green however there is a message of an very important profile update available please click here to have full coverage of your data so i click it and i get error cant update profile please try again later. So i keep trying and eventually it updates and says settings have been applied updating content. when i reopen the sprint zone voice and data turn green but the darn profile update for full data services is still there. So i power off pull battery and continue getting same results. The data profile isnt sticking even when it says its been updated. My 3g internet is still slow. Ive also done factory resets from the recovery menu.Sprint even re-pushed my connection off on then pulled battery to see if signal issues were an issue.
so then i do ##rtn# but still the same results. I have tried different modems as well to see if that was the case but no cigar.
Im currently on FH13 ICS 4.0.4 Official stock sprint. the sprint tec support suggest me to go into a store for further troubleshooting cause thats all they can do however i think theres more i can do here just need a little help. I know theres a bunch of more menues i can enter the codes are from this website below. I hope someone can help me with specific correct configurations in the data profile section because this phone doesnt give you the option to reset to default in your data menu just edit and view. Thank you in advanced

Thier wasnt any outage on my network or construction over here either
Don't pay attention to it's a bug in Sprint Zone it always will say there's an update. Update PRL and Profile in Settings and you're good. About speed maybe a network problem in your area it happens to me yesterday PRL Update failing and eventually updated after a few hours also speeds went back I called Sprint and indeed it was a tower problem in my area.
They will tell you there's not outage if no one is reporting. It happens a lot here in PR and when I pass by the tower in Hatillo there are workers on the tower. Lol they know nothing about their own towers.

Being that it's Sprint, more than likely it's just their horrible service. If you call them they will probably just give you an excuse like a tower down or something. I have constant issues with their data speeds and signal and this what they always tell me.. .

10 packets transmitted, 0 received, +1 errors, 100% packet loss, time 9007ms
this cant be right though because im using 3g right now to write this post shouldn't i be unable to reach through with these results?
i ran a busybox ifconfig and got the results i should have no packets lossed maybe i entered the ip wrong or its one of those loop traces idk it said ip so thats what i used in landroid regardless still got good 3g any tec want to fill the slots for me please thanks.
