[Q] contacts gone - Wildfire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

so yesterdayi i root my wildfire but now all my contacts are gone, is there a way to get them back, or do i need to insert them manually?

If they were synced with your Google Account, they will be back automatically after a sync. If not, and hadn't backed them up, you will have to enter them manually.

as 3xeno has said.
but...... if they are still on your sim card then you can sync from that to phone i think. !!!

copy contacts from phone to sim card

hi
i have just started using android on my Desire, but i cant find out how to copy contacts onto my sim card in case i want to use a different phone,
i intially had my contacts on my sim so i copied them on to the phone but i had a few problems where it would show duplicates even though it was set to show only on phone/sim (cant remeber which one it was)/ some places it would only show phone ones.
i copied them onto the phone then deleted them from sim, no i want them back lol.
anyone know a way ?

Grab = Download & Install
Contact2Sim = App
from the market = from the Android App market
you could also just export all contacts and then import them on your Sim via the menu in the phone I guess (correct me if I am wrong, not using Sim Card contacts, only GMAIL sync)
i remembered when i was using the original froyo i was able to save contacts into my sim, but ever since i used cyanogenmod 7, there's no such function anymore.
contact2sim does not allow single contact management. any other help?
thnx , it worked

[Q] Creating CSV file question

Hey guys,
im having a weird issue with my desire....
i have 336 contacts on my phone, in which i had transferred from my previous device... i realize for google to sync my contacts i need to create a csv file, or export the contacts from my phone to sd, and then load the file in gmail for the contacts to show up.
my problem is this....
i can SEE the contacts in the people application, but when i hit menu and "view" it doesnt show anything in parenthesis.. for example
it would say :
Sim contacts (1)
Gmail contacts (0)
Phone contacts (0)
although i have 336 contacts in which i can see in the people view.
is this a known issue? i just want to create a backup and load it to my gmail account in case i lose my phone i dont want to lose my contacts.
Any help would be GREAT!
my phone is NOT rooted, im running 2.1
no one else having this issue???
Im a noob at this so not sure if this is correct but this is what i did to put all my contacts on gmail
imported all contacts onto sd
transfered from sd to pc
transfered from pc to gmail
so i have now 3 backups for my contacts, just incase
again not sure if this is your answer or the correct way but enough saves not to lose them

Stupid question.

I'm trying to figure out how to switch a phone contact from Phone Contact to Google contact.
Id just make another contact as a Google contact the delete the other one off the phone, or you can log into Google online and add the contact through there and it will push it to your phone automatically.
Here's a bit easier way:
1. Open your People App
2. Navigate to Menu>Import/Export
3. Export to SD Card
4. Go to http://www.gmail.com
5. Log in
6. Go to your contacts on the left (I can't get to the page at work so work with me here)
7. There should be an option to import contacts
8. Upload the .vcf file that is on your /sdcard
If the browser on your phone won't let you, just transfer it to your desktop (usb, emial, dropbox...whichever way is your flavor) and upload it from there.
You can now delete all of your contacts and sync with Google to have them downloaded to your phone.
I was just trying to change a couple of contacts on my wifes phone. She didnt know that you should put them as a google contact so if anything happened there never lost. I'm getting ready to take her from Ava to Myn cause thats what I went to and I think Myn will have an update for the new software update before Ava. And it's fast as hell!
Yea, that method is good if ALL your contacts need to be changed. If you only need to change a couple, just make a new contact, as a Google contact, then delete the old one. I just tried on my phone, and there is no way to change them for some reason. You can change everything else about the contact, except changing from phone to google.

He should have his contacts on his google email account. Go online and login in to google and hit contacts, all of his contacts should be there, and if you add your google account to your phone it should sync your contacts, along with his email

The only prob with this is how he added any new contacts to the phone. If they added as phone contact then they will not be in google. If they were saved as a google contact then yes, when they sign back in, through the market for instence, they will auto update. From now on, tell them to always add contact as google contact when given the choice.
Not to hijak the thread but is there an easy way to move phone contacts to google contacts? I've been trying to do that for a while but haven't found the answer.

export phone contacts to SD card. Then run import and you can chose to import from the file on the SD card into your google contacts
Thanks for the info. I did that and was relieved to find that google contacts has a merge duplicates function.

[Q] How can I recover my contacts?

Hey everybody. Recently, a family member's power button on their Epic 4G Touch stopped working. I insisted it was a hardware issue, yet when they took it in to Sprint, they said it was a software issue. I figured I might as well try a factory reset to see if it indeed WAS a software issue. I copied all the files via USB, and I did a sync with the Google account, and then reset. They didn't need everything backed up, they just needed their contacts. Stupidly, I assumed the Google Sync kept the contacts. Tried to restore the contacts via Google Sync and looks like the Contacts didn't sync. I don't think I can root the phone as the power button is not functioning. I have tried several software on my Windows Computer that are supposed to recover Android files. The pictures, videos, messages, etc. all recovered. However, I was unable to get the software to recover the contacts. I tried "Wondershare Dr. Fone for Android" to no success. Is there anything else I can try to recover the contacts? I have all the external (I think that's what it is called) backed up on my PC. I plugged the phone in prior to reset, and copied all the files from there. Is there anything I can do to recover the contacts? Thanks guys!

I save all my contacts as google contacts and when I log in to my google account, they are all downloaded. If that did not happen for you, then they are probably lost.
Yea I use Google voice and it shows like a log of all my contacts are messages, calls, etc. In the future you could download an app called super backup. It lets you back up your contacts into a file that can be moved around. Then all you have to do is reinstall the app and look for that file to get your contacts back.
