copy contacts from phone to sim card - Desire General

hi
i have just started using android on my Desire, but i cant find out how to copy contacts onto my sim card in case i want to use a different phone,
i intially had my contacts on my sim so i copied them on to the phone but i had a few problems where it would show duplicates even though it was set to show only on phone/sim (cant remeber which one it was)/ some places it would only show phone ones.
i copied them onto the phone then deleted them from sim, no i want them back lol.
anyone know a way ?

Grab = Download & Install
Contact2Sim = App
from the market = from the Android App market
you could also just export all contacts and then import them on your Sim via the menu in the phone I guess (correct me if I am wrong, not using Sim Card contacts, only GMAIL sync)

i remembered when i was using the original froyo i was able to save contacts into my sim, but ever since i used cyanogenmod 7, there's no such function anymore.
contact2sim does not allow single contact management. any other help?

thnx , it worked

How can i copy all my contacts to a new sim?

Hi i am trying to copy all contacts at once to my new sim card. I know i can copy them one by one, but that cannot be the best way. I have done a search but the only thing I found refered to using Ctrl C but I cannot find Ctrl Does anyone have any more ideas ? Regards, John
you can use sim manager to copy all you contacts to sim card and vice versa
Thats what i thought but there is no way to copy from phone to sim card in sim manager
use the attached file and it will allow you to copy your contacts to any sim card

This is going to sound realy lame but I cannot get it to work. I open up contacte then open your sim manager from menu then click contacts to sim and a view with no contacts apears, I click save & it says that 0 contacts have been saved. I have tried all sorts of permutations with opening one first & then the next with no success. What am I doing wrong
no you are not doing anything wrong, all you need to do is intall prog on your device(not on memory card), reset you uni, start sim manager(dont need to open contacts), click on menu, select contacts to sim,it will give to all contact in your uni, select all either by clicking in the box next to it or select all from menu and save, it will save these
contacts to your sim.i am using version 6.10 so you can give it a try instead of 6.25

Sim Contacts

Alright guys,
Thanks to those who are taking the time to read this.
For some reason when I try to copy my PHONE CONTACTS to my SIM CONTACTS, using Sim Manager, it won't copy it. I'll go through the motions and it still won't copy to the SIM Card. Any help is appreciated.
Thank You
?
how many contacts do you have sim memory could be full
Also are you running the SIM manager that came with the 6.1 rom?
Yes, I am running the SIM Manager that came with Kavana's 6.1
Are you sure that when you select to copy you check all the names that you want to copy also make sure its 250 contracts or less as the sim card is only able to hold 250 contacts.

How do you transfer details from symbian to andoid?

Seeing that there is a "How do you transfer details from winmo to andoid" thread, i guess i need to make this too, as i am using a samsung "smartphone" lol, using the symbian s60 3rd edn......
so how do i transfer details from symbian to android?
I don't know symbian... maybe you can use this too:
http://www.spritesoftware.com/Products/Migrate/Migrate-Your-Data-Now/How-To-Transfer
I do have symbian, also S60 3rd edition, nokia E75.
dont think there is an easy "free" way, ... pics, music, videos, move them from your phone to your PC, .... than from PC to your android SD Card.
the contacts, ... save to SIM and then move the SIM to Android and copy the contacts from the SIM. also you can transfer messages the same way (if you have a decent SIM card anyway )
I dont have critical birthday's, calenders, ... etc. so the contact names and numbers (+media) are enough for me, and thats way to do it

I found a thing called Sprite Migrate, pretty sure its free, but havent fully tried it yet!
3 step convoluted process, Winmo to PC to Android, with 3 separate programs.
I have done the first 2 steps and it seemed to work OK, backs up contact and texts and even call logs.
Will post again if step 3 works once T mobile send me my Desire tomorrow.

what if my desire is locked to t-mobile and my previous phone - symbian s60 3rd was on o2, will i still be able to transfer the contacts from my o2 card? or it wont even get accepted?
you can sync your contacts with ovi suite and then sync them into outlook where you can create a csv file to import your contacts into gmail. and then when you setup your gmail on your desire all your contacts will be copied!
I have come from a Nokia E71. Gladly, as the OS was really beginning to irritate me.
The way I can suggest is to sync you phone with Outlook, and then sync Outlook with Gmail (if you have one) and then down to your Android device.
Caveats:
1. Outlook to Gmail can often involve some pruning as some contacts don't get synced in the way you may want.
2. I'm assuming you have software that syncs to Outlook. I don't know what software you have so I don't know.
This method should be free, fairly automated, and not very painful.

Yes it will work, .. because this thing is 3 programs
1. SISX application (Symbian)
2. Desktop Application
3. APK application (Android)
you install the SISX in your Symbian, ... you use that application to back up contacts, SMSes, and bookmarks, it will create one file ".SMF"..
you transfer that ".SMF" file to your PC, .. and then you use your Desktop application to convert that ".SMF" file to another ".SMF" file that is compatible with android, than you transfer the resulted, converted .SMF file to android, ... than you use the APK application to extract the info from that .SMF and thats it
however the APK file i downloaded from their main site seems expired, cant complete the last step

From the site, under step three:
"...On your Android phone, go to the Android Market and search for ‘sprite migrate’. Install our Android application and use it to load your data onto your device. ..."
Have you tried the app from this site or from the market?

I see, so the website doesnt give you that, I have to get it from android market, .. thanx for the heads up!
i have just tried this app and yes it does let you import the contacts, however it imports them as gmail contacts and somehow none of them has phone numbers and it is impossible to add one to any of the contacts
just tried to export them using nokia pc suit into a csv file then load it up onto gmail acc and then sync with the phone and again, it works but the numbers dont appear grrr
can anybody try if it also works like this for them, as i dont really wanna do another factory reset
/e ok just checked on another desire and it works fine there... :S grr
/e2 lol ok after restarting the phone it works now :O
cant get it to work, got error when converting it using the pc software after getting the smf file from my symbian....
it does create a new smf after converting but i cant use it on my android....
what did i do wrong?
There is another easier way to tranfer your contacts from symbian to android...
First of all you have to go to contacts on symbian and select mark → mark all...
Then you choose to send them via bluetooth...
It sends them one by one (...you 'll see it during the proccess)
When you have finished, go to your android device into your "bluetooth received" folder.....
Select one by one contact to save it on your android phone.........
I think it's an easy way to transfer your contacts if they are not many because you must save them one by one....
Well, the way I did it coming from a n95 (which has a microsd slot) was to select all contacts on the n95 in the phonebook > select "copy to memory card" > insert the card to your desire and in the people app choose menu > import from memory card. Voilà, all done!
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
I transferred my contacts to Google using syncML, but that was from a Nokia N97... not sure if the Samsung Symbians support syncML...

Hello
I'm migrating right now, the trick is quite easy : just change the date, I changed from 2011 to 2009 and that's all !
By the way, I've migrated from Windows mobile 6.5 to Android.
Migration successful !
Hi,
I've saved all the content (including contacts) on the SD card and then I've imported them on the new phone.

Stupid question.

I'm trying to figure out how to switch a phone contact from Phone Contact to Google contact.
Id just make another contact as a Google contact the delete the other one off the phone, or you can log into Google online and add the contact through there and it will push it to your phone automatically.
Here's a bit easier way:
1. Open your People App
2. Navigate to Menu>Import/Export
3. Export to SD Card
4. Go to http://www.gmail.com
5. Log in
6. Go to your contacts on the left (I can't get to the page at work so work with me here)
7. There should be an option to import contacts
8. Upload the .vcf file that is on your /sdcard
If the browser on your phone won't let you, just transfer it to your desktop (usb, emial, dropbox...whichever way is your flavor) and upload it from there.
You can now delete all of your contacts and sync with Google to have them downloaded to your phone.
I was just trying to change a couple of contacts on my wifes phone. She didnt know that you should put them as a google contact so if anything happened there never lost. I'm getting ready to take her from Ava to Myn cause thats what I went to and I think Myn will have an update for the new software update before Ava. And it's fast as hell!
Yea, that method is good if ALL your contacts need to be changed. If you only need to change a couple, just make a new contact, as a Google contact, then delete the old one. I just tried on my phone, and there is no way to change them for some reason. You can change everything else about the contact, except changing from phone to google.

Ok from what i have read might have been a bit easier doing a backup before you swapped out . Your apps you should be able to get working by reinstalling them by using a file explorer like Astro - Just because the APK file is on your card does not mean it will automatically go onto your phone - you may well lose some of your previous data doing this depending what was stored on the card before. basicly your apps that were on the card are still there but they arent installed on the new desire so there's nothing showing in the app folder - reinstalling them again tells the phone that they are there.
thanks, but how do I know which apps I had I can not remember all.
What about my web page bookmarks?

Bookmarks i have no idea if these even would have been installed on your sdcard..
plug your phone into your pc set the phone to disk drive mode and take a look.. in windows click start>search select the drive letter for your phone card search for all files or folders and in the search box put "*.apk" without the "" this will search for all the apk files you had on your sd card.
