Is there an app that..... - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Is there an app that notifies you in the task bar when 4G is available?....kind of like how you can be notified now with the phone when there are available wifi networks.
I don't ever leave 4G on because I figured it would drain the battery but it would be nice to be notified when I'm out if it was available wherever I am.

No, how is it going to look for 4G signal if you have the 4G turned off?

LOL...guess I never thought about that.
Wait.....I get notified of available wifi when I don't have wifi on. Why is that different?

im pretty sure wifi is on,just not connected, when u get that avail wifi notification

Leave your 4g on and it will automatically connect when it detects a signal.

I suppose it would be possible for an app to use GPS to notify you when you are in an area that is known to have 4G coverage. That would drain the battery though, so you would be better off just leaving the 4G turned on.

Get the "Got Clear?" app. Just load it and if you're in the green area you have 4G.

If you do everything posted in the link above and it still happens your area could be going thew a 4g upgrade. I had that happen for a month and ahalf and it just one day stopped, and 4g was fine again.
Double check with sprint or other 4g users around your area to see if they are experiencing the same.
Sent from an Epic with 4G
Sprint is that way, dear.
Sprint puts out a 4g map, where it shows you'll get Indoor and Outdoor, Outdoor/Street only, and the map is extremely specific and detailed.
For example, my whole street in in a band of "outdoor only" 4g, and once you go indoors, it connects then disconnects, connects then disconnects.

How do I????

I thought I lost my galaxy s2, I called in the insurance and got my replacement, but I now found it, already paid my 100 bucks. Is it possible to turn it into a galaxy player? I wanna turn it on but I don't want it to look for a signal. Any ideas?

...Go into an elevator or other area where signals will almost guaranteed be blocked and turn on airplane mode immediately after turning on?
Yea just keep it in airplane mode and turn off data and only use Wifi.

I did the same thing when I had my evo 4g and when I found it I turned it on and all was well. I went on sprint to try and swap it to see if it was still usable and to my suprise it activated. So I sold it and never heard or got charged anything.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Once they activated the replacement, shouldnt it not have signal anyways?
And how long did it take to get the replacement?

It still shows the signal coverage 1x, but not 3g, nor does anything work as far as making calls or utilizing the sprint data network. I received the replacement the next day air free of charge via fedex.

do you use the sprint connection optimizer?

just curious of people use it or not? On the EVO LTE you wanted to keep wi-fi off as it tended to cause problems when switching from wi-fi to 4g (the problem being you would not get any 4g signal.)
Nope. Annoying having that crap pop up constantly
Sent from my SPH-L710 using XDA Premium HD app
mine is checked (which I believe means it is on) but I never have anything pop-up to suggest a different network etc. It does automatically switch to wi-fi given the chance.

I can't stand it. I have to disable it then remove the apk to actually turn it off. Very frustrating. My girlfriends Zte Flash won't allow you to disable either. Kind of a crappy "feature".

I drive around doing property maintenance all day and have lots of hotspots so leave mine on. I am surprised at how many times I pull out my phone and am on a wifi network, and no pop-up for me either. There is a setting to disable that somewhere.

It seems to me that you need it to get 4g. Am I wrong in this observation? Is it just coincidence that I don't pick up 4g when its off?

question about 3g speed and 4g connectivity

Hello,
I have been around for a while, since my htc hero. And I've trusted xda to fix the many issues that manufacturers leave in. However the are a few issues with my new Galaxy S III that are driving me mad and if I can't fix them I may have to return it.
So far my speed is terrible. My 3g speed is half that of my wife's Epic touch. My 4g speeds are fine but will randomly switch to 3g (and with lte there is no refresh button like wimax, so I have to use airplane mode). And 4g is slower than 3g when I try to download from the play store but fine in the browser.
If anyone can help that would be great. I can't search all that well from the app and I am on stock tw 4.1 just rooted. I already fix all of the prl updates and stuff.
Also sometimes a green checkmark appears in my notification bar and says preparing network.
Other than this annoying network issue I really like this phone. I would hate to have to return it for the lg optimus G

I had that same problem....I was averaging .8-1.3mbps. Its not the phone its the location your in. Finally sprint turned on lte tower 14 in roanoke tx. Data faster than home internet.

Your wife's phone us on wimax yours is on lte. What you explained sounds like lte towers are being worked on and upgraded near you. Lack of signal going into and out I went through that for about 4 weeks then lte lite up perfectly after that.

Mobile data not working

has anyone had the issue where their phone won't connect back to 3g data?
when I reboot my phone 3g will work until wifi kicks in. after I turn wifi off 3g comes back, I can call and text but will not download any data.
I have tried Odin back to stock. wiped everything including recovery. I have tried flashing every combination of modems and kernels. all same.
however one thing I will note. I have not been able to get a successful modem flashed in Odin. it keeps failing. so I flash in twrp.
I also wiped the activation data via ##732# or something like that. had sprint reactivate my phone too..
perhaps someone could shed some light on this?

I just got my Note 2 like 5 days ago and mine does the same thing. Its very annoying and its gonna be exchanged today for that and other reasons.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
hmm. I wonder if it's network related..
is your phone stock?
-Wizzle
Okay here is the skinny. It is network related. My wife's stock s3 does the same thing. If you are in an area without lte and your phone under mobile settings is selected to lte/evdo/cdma it will connect to ephrd13. Which is enhanced 3g. When you come off wifi or a phone call sometime it will not reconnect. You can toggle data a few times and it will reconnect.
To solve this issue, under mobile settings I select evdo only setting being that I do not have lte in my area. There is no change in speed between the 2 3g networks.
This info is from self diagnosing the rooted note 2, a stock photon, and a stock s3.
I have had sprint reset the phones as well as the ##data# trick.

but we'll see

When I say evdo only I meant cdma only. Ehrpd13 is the handshaking 3g for lte. Some areas have lte in the towers but no ehrpd13 so the lte is not turned on yet. Basically ehrpd13 and lte are like cookies and cream lol.

When the 4g network matures as it will the 4g will get better as the 3g.
You can always go to I think s4gru.com. That site shows when and where lte will become available. Plus they will be able to help you better there than xda.
As for sprint customer service, they are laughable at best. 4 people I spoke with didn't know what ehrpd13 was lol.
