If you do everything posted in the link above and it still happens your area could be going thew a 4g upgrade. I had that happen for a month and ahalf and it just one day stopped, and 4g was fine again.
Double check with sprint or other 4g users around your area to see if they are experiencing the same.
Sent from an Epic with 4G
Sprint is that way, dear.
Sprint puts out a 4g map, where it shows you'll get Indoor and Outdoor, Outdoor/Street only, and the map is extremely specific and detailed.
For example, my whole street in in a band of "outdoor only" 4g, and once you go indoors, it connects then disconnects, connects then disconnects.

I haven't been able to connect to 4G for a few days now. I'm not sure if my phone is malfunctioning, because I don't know anyone else with 4G to confirm if there is actually a signal to connect to - has anyone else noticed any problems with the 4G network, particularly near Denver?
The 4G symbol shows up and the phone looks like it is trying to connect... When my radio hardware failed on my first Epic, it wouldn't even do that much, so i'm hoping it is the network and not my phone

i know for a fact that 4G works here in Aurora. Hasn't failed me once. Occasionally it won't connect but nothing a radio reset [airplane mode] can't fix. Usually its the phone that has issues. For me at least

I'll have to test it once i leave work for the day (in a medically shielded building so no cell signal PERIOD.)
It's possible it's a rom issue, what are you running on your phone?
(OT.. didn't know there were this many of us in the Denver metro area.. )

We're talking about Wimax 4g
I'm running SRF 1.2 with Genocide 1.2 (or maybe 2.0, I can't remember which one I flashed last time, lol), with the EH06 modem
I think I'll try a full wipe and reflash, because I think I had this problem once a long time ago from a bad flash...
EDIT: I also recently noticed that my
signal keeps dropping to zero bars, although the 3G symbol is still there... Maybe I'll start with a modem swap...
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
runnin the EH06 modem as well, so I guess once i escape this shielded cage of a building i'll find out if 4g works.. haven't tried 4g since i flashed the EH06 modem..
Im running SFR 1.2 (in the Tech Center) using the Genocide kernel. Not having any 4G issues here.
Just got a chance to test 4g.. and it's workin fine.. (otherwise this wouldn't show up...)

Its cool that a bunch of us are from the Metro area 8')
we should all come to my coffee shop in Aurora and whip out our Epics in the name of randomness
4g is working fine up here in Northglenn/Thornton
4g working for me in N. Denver and everywhere else I normally get it around town so guess its time for you to re flash .
I'm at denver airport I'm guessing 4g is not here??
Well, thanks for all of your feedback - I was facing the hard decision between a long phone call to tech support or a full reflash.
I had to Odin all the way back to DI18 and rebuild from there to get my 4G back, but it was worth it

I've never been able to get 4G at DIA...
Way south in the tech center (Meridian area) 4G has always been spotty at best when outdoors and no coverage inside.

This is one of the best cities in the country for beer. I don't know what I'd do without Odells...
And before some uneducated person says something about O'DOULs N/A **** beer, Odells is something completely different

Is there an app that notifies you in the task bar when 4G is available?....kind of like how you can be notified now with the phone when there are available wifi networks.
I don't ever leave 4G on because I figured it would drain the battery but it would be nice to be notified when I'm out if it was available wherever I am.

No, how is it going to look for 4G signal if you have the 4G turned off?

LOL...guess I never thought about that.
Wait.....I get notified of available wifi when I don't have wifi on. Why is that different?

im pretty sure wifi is on,just not connected, when u get that avail wifi notification
Leave your 4g on and it will automatically connect when it detects a signal.
I suppose it would be possible for an app to use GPS to notify you when you are in an area that is known to have 4G coverage. That would drain the battery though, so you would be better off just leaving the 4G turned on.

Get the "Got Clear?" app. Just load it and if you're in the green area you have 4G.
I have flashed numerous ROMs and none have had working Wimax. I am in Everett/ Lynnwood and can't get wimax to even to last long enough to measure. I have tried a number of modems as well. EL 29, FF18, FG20 and even the newest one which was available thru the goodness updater. By the way has anyone figured out how to measure Wimax? I used to have the Evo 4g and got a great signal and the Evo would tell you if you had good or poor signal, however I have not found anything to measure 4g speed on my E4GT and without 4G I can't do the adjustments suggested in another post.

Thanks for the heads up on that, right now I am going through the different modems to see if one of them will work. Is it possible this E4GT is a dud? Although my daughter is still on stock EL29 and she has bad Wimax as well.
I did notice that if I kept toggling the 4g and ran a speed test that I sometimes got better results - so far I am at FC14 and sometimes I get 2+ mb down with a ping under a hundred. My area of Seattle sucks, as I just tried Clearwire and am sending it back as well. Does anyone know of a good app that will measure the wimax, the one one the E4Gt doesn't work very well compared to what HTC has. Well I have been working on this for quite a while so time to crash
If you go to settings than go to 4g it shows you your connection in bars like back on gingerbread. If you want to get a more accurate reading than ##DEBUG# is your best option. It gives you your connection status in dbm. Lock code is 777468 not your msl. You'll find it in Wimax DM.

Would be great but Wimax not coming on, so can't get to first base.

I can get in there with the lock code that you supplied - thanks so very much, however I can't modify anything because the Wimax DM says I need to turn on the Wimax and for some reason it will not turn on. Peace and thanks a lot.

In that same menu screen go to Wimax CT and click open device. After that scroll all the way down and click on both the load default and odb load default. This resets 4g back to default sprint values. Try that and then try turning on 4g and see if it works. Lil hint clicking on Wimax IP in that same screen will automatically start up 4g

Thanks to everyone who had advice for me. Took it to the store and they gave me a new refurb with working 4G, ain't Sprint the greatest, the tech told me that things burn up on the boards all the time, that I probably got the battery to hot or that the 4g part of the board just died for no particular reason (last billing cycle I did 4Gb of Wimax and 3+ Gb of 3g - that is why I stay with Sprint lol, no throttling and no warning call or text)
I'm often connected to Wimax 4G but there is no internet connection. I'm using the latest I27 modem. I've had this issue with previous modems as well. Is there an issue with the OS not renewing the IP address?
Just wondering as this is definitely bugging me.
I'm using Paranoid Android 2.16.
Thanks!
Try a modem known working to you?

It can be a number of issue you can determine ONLY yourself. I'd flash back to a stock ROM of your choice, along with EL29 modem (my personal favorite). Try out the 4G connection and see if it works then. It can also just be that the 4G towers around you are down or not working properly. Give clearWire a call if you have concern.

I get that sometimes too. I like how everybody just told you go to a previous build when you clearly stated it was present in them too. When it happens to me I just disconnect and connect again. This also happened when I owned an og Evo and the og epic. This has been a issue since the beginning of wimax. It freezes and all u see is the download arrow continuously blinking and won't sleep.

No he said; " I've had this issue with previous modems as well".Keyboard is modem, not another ROM/build. Did you mean modem by build? I personally think he should call up sprint or clear. They will be able to tell him if there is issues in his area. Or its possible be lost his WiMax keys? I seen that issue on previous devices like evo 4g and evo 3D.

Ok true he did say modem so I take the builds part back. But in all honesty this has nothing to do with either. It happened on all my 4G Wimax phones. And I doubt there's a fix besides toggling 4G off and on. 4G Wimax always had this happen from time to time in my experience with other phones besides the E4GT.
Edit: also I've noticed it happens a lot when your 4G connection is only at one bar. So I guess coverage plays a role in it.

Could be that he is indeed under weak wimax signal or near the edge of it. He prob has his settings to connect above the -89dbm. So it connects but cant process it.
I think it's just wimax. I'm in Tyson's corner, VA on the Beltway heading towards Maryland. moving from a 3G network, connecting to a 4G Wimax but it's probably for about 20 seconds, then I'm probably on the edge of it. So it seems like it connects but never gets internet connection, unless I toggle the 4G button again.
Hello,
I have been around for a while, since my htc hero. And I've trusted xda to fix the many issues that manufacturers leave in. However the are a few issues with my new Galaxy S III that are driving me mad and if I can't fix them I may have to return it.
So far my speed is terrible. My 3g speed is half that of my wife's Epic touch. My 4g speeds are fine but will randomly switch to 3g (and with lte there is no refresh button like wimax, so I have to use airplane mode). And 4g is slower than 3g when I try to download from the play store but fine in the browser.
If anyone can help that would be great. I can't search all that well from the app and I am on stock tw 4.1 just rooted. I already fix all of the prl updates and stuff.
Also sometimes a green checkmark appears in my notification bar and says preparing network.
Other than this annoying network issue I really like this phone. I would hate to have to return it for the lg optimus G

Your wife's phone us on wimax yours is on lte. What you explained sounds like lte towers are being worked on and upgraded near you. Lack of signal going into and out I went through that for about 4 weeks then lte lite up perfectly after that.
