Again? - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Another phone, this time a dual core, first with S4, and first with Sense 4.0. Seems like it would be awesome. Again, not gonna wait anyways. Rezound is for me

Oh, and I post these in the Incredible forums for people who might have to wait longer on their contract, or something, or other reasons why some Incredible users might have to wait

I have to wait till April, so thanks for bringing this to my attention. Ill definitely be checking it out.

Gingerbread ROM on the G2?

I am a noob to these forums and this seemed the best place to ask considering it is a Q&A forum. Considering the G2 is a stock android device how hard would it be to make a stock gingerbread ROM for it? Are any devs out there working on it? Is teamdouche working on CM v7 based on 2.3? I have been looking around for any inclination of this but have seen none whilst other devices get gingerbread ported over/compiled for them. Just want to know the status (or hopefully an ETA) on a Gingerbread ROM for the G2. If I posted this in the wrong place or this has been posted before my apologies.

I don't know if it's out yet, mang... but I'm sure that once it is, it'll be a hot commodity. The modding community is absolutely amazing and I think they seriously need to be hired by some of the mobile companies out there. Their work is fantastic.
well nobody can make a rom or anything until the source code is released...and that hasnt happend yet. as soon as the nexus s comes out (which is this week) then the source code will be extracted from gingerbread and itll be able to be used. right now we just had a SDK file, and that really isnt used for anything but looks. mainly used for themes and such.
Then why does the EVO have a full working ROM for gingerbread? I believe the DESIRE and the HD2 also have it going.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
There isn't a working gingerbread ROM for the EVO, it's just FroYo with some parts ripped from 2.3. Gingerbread will be released in a couple of days along with the Nexus S, after which the AOSP will be ported to existing devices - but it'll still be a few days, if not weeks until something stable comes out.
I wouldn't hold my breath for it.
My apologies for my ignorance. I thought they were actual 2.3 builds considering the XDA posted list says "devices running gingerbread". So absolutly nothing can happen with gingerbread until a device with gingerbread (nexus S) comes out?

Cyanogen will not port it to the G2until 2.3 is released for the G2.

Not a problem, you were just asking
All we have running Gingerbread right now is the android emulator, from which we can pull apk's and libs, but most of them need tweaking to get them to work on FroYo. Plus I don't know if the market works on Gingerbread.

Is that an actual statement from teamdouche/cyanogen or just from studying release behavior in the past? When you say release you mean T-mo pushes it as an OTA correct, I know someone on here will "release" 2.3 long before T-mo stamps it for approval.

So at the moment there is no actual gingerbread (save for the reveiw models floating around phonedog, mobileburn, etc are unboxing) out just froyo with the modified characteristics of gingerbread? Pardon the question if it seems silly, most of the comment went over my head.

I'll bet we have a ported ROM before New Years, usually a huge release like this gets all the attention of the devs. Especially since with perm-root, s-off and several stable 2.2 ROMs, the devs don't have all that much to work on atm.
Team Villain were working on one, but it became clear that there was going to be no way to make Audio work until AOSP is out so its on hold until then.
and without audio a phone is useless, no ringing, no sound in calls, no music etc etc

Definatley looking forward to it when Villain gets their hands on the source code. I bet T-mo's is going to be ladened with the same bloatware that their 2.2 install on the G2 had.

Well atleast we have the themes for now, that will hold me over for a couple weeks but not to impressed by the nexus s enough to shell out $520 I might just buy vibrant when functional gingerbread port is out allot cheaper and almost same phone well close anyway.

Honestly I would wait if your shelling out any money for anything samsung just placed a MASSIVE order for tegra 2's today which hints at dualcore phones sometime in q1 or Q2 next year hopefully. Wait for the qualcomm dualcore and nvidia dualcore wars to begin.

Anyone know roughly how long it takes google to drop the source in aosp after the sdk is released?

Highly doubt that's true. I came from a CDMA Hero running CM6 RC1 (Froyo) and as most of us know, the lower end devices (such as the Hero), never got an official 2.2, yet there was a fully functional, highly stable CM6 out for it.
Which ran magnificently BTW.
Ah yeah, those seem to be more like proof of concept. Once a retail version of handsets start coming out with Gingerbread, as well as the source code, I imagine we'll start seeing custom ROMs based off it.

Thats all i needed to hear...samsung should'nt getanybody money with their softaware build qaulity and support
Gingerbread doesn't seem to be very promising though, what's with all this hype around it?? The update seems pretty piss poor to be honest. Nothing much.

New phone

Although I have had fun with my desire, I can help but think it is now outdated. I've read about the sensation xe, what's everyones thoughts? My desire is the amoled version, do you think I will be disappointed with the sensation xe screen? Should I wait a little loner? Should I even move to the dark side and get an iPhone 5 when available?
I would be greatful for your thoughts and help.
Thank you

It's not outdated, just flash a good rom on it. But if you don't like it, get something else. You can still sell your desire for quite some money...
Been through a few roms, currently running insertcoin, miui before that for quite a while. Phone just seems a bit slow now, plus I'm one of those people who always want the latest

I used miui until a few months ago, got a bit bored and went back to a sense rom, might give miui another go. Thanks for everyones thoughts.
Just back to one of my original questions though, my desire has the amoled screen. Will the newer slcd screen on the sensation be much different quality wise, for better or worse?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
The amoled screen has a bit better colors, but the slcd screen of the sensation is better in every other aspect in my personal opinion.
But I think best would be to look for yourself, try the sensation in phone store.
I too eventualy got bored with the desire. After playing with almost every Android phone on the market I fell in love with the galaxy s2. The screen did it for me. It is truly breathtaking. Just before I tried it I played with the LG optimus 3d and was impressed with the effect but when you compare the s2 screen to it the difference is amazing. It made my desire display look so drab and dull. The phone is super fast. Full 1080p video recording. 16meg phone memory. 2mb system memory so no more ext partitions or data to SD.
Go and play with one. Apparently there will be an s3 around the start of nov. I wanted the evo 3doriginally but delays inthe launch. Bad reviews and the locked bootloader put me off. If you like to flash roms the s2 is super easy to root. Just flash an unsecure kernel and that's it. No s off no Linux disks nothing. So that's my sales pitch done with

Hopefully this RUU can help our ICS

http://phandroid.com/2012/02/12/htc-endeavor-ruu-leaked-breakthrough-for-custom-ics-roms/
And possibly help get Sense 4.0 ported, Some of the progress from the other htc phones.
I highly doubt this will help us. Have you seen the size of that thing?
Don't hold your breath, a dev said its next to impossible to even port this to the 3D because the Endeavor is a Tegra 3 device with a 720p display, its a beast for sure
Evo 3D powered by viperROM
Once the Desire gets Sense 4.0 via a leak, we will have something shortly afterwards. Lately, our development seems to follow in theirs.

Don't mean to "rain on the parade" but this is kinda old news.
EDIT: Nvm, by the end of March, yay!
EDIT 2: Maybe not nvm, where does it say by the end of March?
The Sensations are getting it in March, no word of a timeframe for our phone
Imho, I was going to update to the rezound for the ice. But now that I hear this, there is hope, the world hasn't stopped. N we get a delicious dessert. Now when the devs start making Roms based on 4.0, that's when the real fun starts. Now I just gotta hold out on using my upgrade until quad core comes out!

Incredible 2, HTC Rhyme, Droid 3, or Droid X2?

Hi,
I'm looking for a 3G only phone for Page Plus and it seems like the Incredible 2, HTC Rhyme, Droid 3, and Droid X2 are the best choices.
From what I've read, only the Incredible 2 and HTC Rhyme will be getting ICS. If that is true, I'll probably get one of those. Anyone know when this will happen and whether it is true?
Which phone is better?
It's been a long road so far for us to get any update to ICS, and there haven't been any signs that we'll be getting it soon. The Thunderbolt did get it, which leaves some hope for the Inc2, but it isn't for sure. I don't know about the Rhyme having ICS. As for the other Droids I don't have any experience with them.
All that being said the Inc2 has a really good community so you can be sure that ICS/JB development will continue until the official update, at which point there will be CM10 and MIUI and ROMs you've never heard of. It sounds like... a dream..
