Incredible 2, HTC Rhyme, Droid 3, or Droid X2? - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

Hi,
I'm looking for a 3G only phone for Page Plus and it seems like the Incredible 2, HTC Rhyme, Droid 3, and Droid X2 are the best choices.
From what I've read, only the Incredible 2 and HTC Rhyme will be getting ICS. If that is true, I'll probably get one of those. Anyone know when this will happen and whether it is true?
Which phone is better?

It's been a long road so far for us to get any update to ICS, and there haven't been any signs that we'll be getting it soon. The Thunderbolt did get it, which leaves some hope for the Inc2, but it isn't for sure. I don't know about the Rhyme having ICS. As for the other Droids I don't have any experience with them.
All that being said the Inc2 has a really good community so you can be sure that ICS/JB development will continue until the official update, at which point there will be CM10 and MIUI and ROMs you've never heard of. It sounds like... a dream..

Thanks, I bought the Droid 3. Now I need to figure out whether to keep it stock or put on a custom rom.

If you are questioning this you are not worthy of owning an android, for those truly worthy people, it isn't a question of if, but when.

Thunderbolt ROM booting on EVO --> Inc next ??

I see that the Thunderbird ROM uis booting on the EVO.
I'm guessing it could mean we could see that ROM ported to the Inc ?
Are any Dev's considering this ?
I could not find it in the Evo thread, could you point it out?
I thought the Thunderbolt was supposed to be similar to the Desire Z style of Sense, just with a few Verizon specific apps.
Am I wrong?

It's very similar, but its a cdma version so it should be more stable plus it probably has some new optimization to make it faster

Can Droid Inc have an update of ICS?

would it be possible for Inc to have an update of Ice Cream Sandwich?
if not, porting it would be possible right?

It's possible, and someday it might happen on CM, but I'd be concerned how slow it would crawl along. God forbid HTC add an equally modern version of Sense to it!
ICS won't have steep hardware requirements for the vanilla version. We "should" get a version from Cyanogen. However, we can pretty much rule out an update from HTC. This phone started at 2.1, saw 2.2, and is now getting 2.3.4. I think HTC will expect users of the Incredible to upgrade their phone for the next update.
I'd like to see if the Nexus One gets it. Since it has similar hardware to the Incredible.

Agreed if the Nexus One gets its possible that the Incredible can run it as well. However I'm fairly sure you won't see an official release.

The Incredible can run it. Google isn't about to stop supporting low end phones as they release, and the first-gen Snapdragon will still be above these. Vanilla Android will run fine.

Incredible 2/S Differences

Ok if I seem like a noob I do give my apologies. I am just trying to make sure if I can use Incredible S roms on kernels on my incredible 2. From what I have seen there is not a huge difference, but since all I have for a reference on comparison is google images, I can not be sure...... I am just looking to see if it is safe (within reason) and possible for me to use some of the roms for the incredible S on my Incredible 2. Thanks
No...though they look identical they r different...Incredible 2 is a world phone whereas Incredible S is just GSM phone!
Second, there is also difference in their processors.. u can see it if u compar them in gsmarena.com n that's why u just can't flash Incredible S roms to Incredible 2 n vice-versa..! U may be able to boot sometimes...But u will b left with no network!
As far I know...porting roms between them is quite easy if u want GSM in Incredible 2...because of their other similarities...!

Hardware wise, both the Incredible 2 and the Incredible S are exactly the same except for the slight processor difference and radio difference. The Incredible 2 comes with Qualcomm's MSM8655 processor while the Incredible S comes with Qualcomm's MSM8255 processor. The Incredible S is a GSM phone and the Incredible 2 is a World phone (primarily centered towards CDMA, but works with GSM proviced you give a code to Verizon)
Software wise, the Incredible 2 and S have a tremendous difference at the moment. Some Incredible S owners have ICS in their phone while others are stuck on gingerbread with Sense 3.0. Our Incredible 2 is stuck on gingerbread with Sense 2.1 (thanks Verizon).
As for kernels, if you're willing to change every piece of coding that makes the kernel work for the Incredible S and tweak it for the Incredible 2, then by all means give it a shot.

We have perfectly stable JB on the Herc now and 4.2 is super close. That's about as "upgraded" as you can get at the moment. So what's your beef?

You must be new around here. People think they are entitled to the latest and greatest as soon as possible, without putting in effort.
I mean, did you see the ridiculous petition someone started? They are complaining they don't have JB source when JB hasn't even been released yet...

I seriously lol'd when I saw that thread, sad part is, it has over 100 signatures of people thinking Samsung will actually do what a poorly written online petition says. Especially when like you said, they havent even released JB yet.

Glad I'm not the only one who thought it was absolutely ridiculous
Figured I'd stay out of it since I'd probably be called a troll.
In case anyone forgot, Samsung actually released the latest ICS source before anyone here even complained we didn't have it.

same reason why I never bothered posting there, prefer being a lurker than going in and posting the obvious.
edit: Funny part is, the person who started the thread doesnt even have the T-989 anymore so probably doesnt even care whether we get the source or not.
This thread just made me spill Dr.Pepper out my nose, oh this was funny as hell. All in all though @OP, Samsung has done their job. It's the carriers which are slow to get the update out to the users -- T-Mobile.
He honestly haven't been to the HTC amaze 4g forums.... they don't even have fully functionally jelly bean or ever will. Ungrateful.

Are you f!#=ing stupid? This phone is probably the only phone with the nicest developers that help you whenever they can. There has been a petition recently about us getting 4.2. We have the best responders, the best roms and the best developers. (Ptmr3, tmogalaxys2, android88 etc.) How dare you criticize this phone and how it is not upgraded.

BUT SERIOUSLY. THE IPHONE 2G?
If you're talking about the android development of it, it stopped a long time ago.
Hmmm
