Incredible 2/S Differences - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

Ok if I seem like a noob I do give my apologies. I am just trying to make sure if I can use Incredible S roms on kernels on my incredible 2. From what I have seen there is not a huge difference, but since all I have for a reference on comparison is google images, I can not be sure...... I am just looking to see if it is safe (within reason) and possible for me to use some of the roms for the incredible S on my Incredible 2. Thanks

No...though they look identical they r different...Incredible 2 is a world phone whereas Incredible S is just GSM phone!
Second, there is also difference in their processors.. u can see it if u compar them in gsmarena.com n that's why u just can't flash Incredible S roms to Incredible 2 n vice-versa..! U may be able to boot sometimes...But u will b left with no network!
As far I know...porting roms between them is quite easy if u want GSM in Incredible 2...because of their other similarities...!

Hardware wise, both the Incredible 2 and the Incredible S are exactly the same except for the slight processor difference and radio difference. The Incredible 2 comes with Qualcomm's MSM8655 processor while the Incredible S comes with Qualcomm's MSM8255 processor. The Incredible S is a GSM phone and the Incredible 2 is a World phone (primarily centered towards CDMA, but works with GSM proviced you give a code to Verizon)
Software wise, the Incredible 2 and S have a tremendous difference at the moment. Some Incredible S owners have ICS in their phone while others are stuck on gingerbread with Sense 3.0. Our Incredible 2 is stuck on gingerbread with Sense 2.1 (thanks Verizon).
As for kernels, if you're willing to change every piece of coding that makes the kernel work for the Incredible S and tweak it for the Incredible 2, then by all means give it a shot.

Thunderbolt ROM booting on EVO --> Inc next ??

I see that the Thunderbird ROM uis booting on the EVO.
I'm guessing it could mean we could see that ROM ported to the Inc ?
Are any Dev's considering this ?
I could not find it in the Evo thread, could you point it out?
I thought the Thunderbolt was supposed to be similar to the Desire Z style of Sense, just with a few Verizon specific apps.
Am I wrong?

It's very similar, but its a cdma version so it should be more stable plus it probably has some new optimization to make it faster

new phone...

hi there
i'm a happy owner of a HTC Desire, but i'm looking for a new phone...
after some research i focused on two device:
HTC Sensation (300€ used)
PRO:
-CPU underclocked
-Look (IMHO)
HTC EVO 3D (300€ new)
PRO:
-3D (which means better screen)
-RAM
both will remain stock for about 5 minutes..
which would you reccommend?
thanks in advance
I would only replace my desire with HTC one. Maybe also desire s.
HTC one x. quadcore phone check on HTC site
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA
HTC one x is around 700€...is more than double the devices i mentioned!
From those two, id get the Evo 3D just because i find the 3D pretty cool (yet a little bit gimmicky.)
Also its going for just over £200 here which is about 230 euros i think so maybe look around and see if you get it cheaper. Ebay?
the cheapest evo in ebay is around 400€ in italy!
this (www elettrotop com/ElettroTop/SchedaArticolo.action?articolo=0128441) is the best price i've found...
just a question...
the sensation cpu is 1.5ghz underclocked to 1.2ghz...what about the evo's one?

Are you talking about Sensation XL or what? Where did you get that information about underclocking?

If I were you, I will check the XDA or other forums for your future phone. Without checking, I think Sensation would have more roms to play with. 3D phones aren't that many, only 2.

i've read somewhere that the only difference from sensation and sensation xe/xl (same hardware) is the clock of the cpu..1.5ghz for the xe/xl and 1.2ghz for the basic one...

yes..this is a point for the sensation..however i don`t like ports...maybe with the ics rollout the modding scenario will grow!!

Ye, but those are single core cpu, at least in the XL case. Sensation has dual core processor at 1.2ghz.
Basically you could consider XL as overclocked DHD.

Some of the desire devs, like robocik or baadnws, moved to the sensation after getting the phone. So I'm sure they'll maintain it for some time, but as quoted, it is already going to be 1 year soon. Same with EVO 3d. But for EVO 3d, if there are only 2 roms, there probably won't be more.
I'm thinking since ice scream sandwich is an overhaul of android that the HTC one, galaxy nexus, gs3 would be a good choice.
If ur only choice are those two tho, make sure there is a Rom you like for that phone. Specs and screen are nice, but you'll be dealing with the interface a lot too.

Robocik and baadnwz jumped over to the dual core scene as soon as they went retail. I'm inclined to believe that it will be the same with quads.

Droid Incredible 4G Port?

Do you think it'll be possible for a port of the Sense 4.0 rom on the Droid Incredible 4G, especially since it has the same size screen as the Inc2?

as tyler said wvga vs qHD (big difference)
for porting purposes its essentially the same as porting a one s rom (minus the vzw built in) and thats been useless for us

[Q] What can I do to (help) port Sense 4?

TBH this forum seems a bit lonely... and my EpicParts question was easily abandoned
Whatever, greetings and happy new year to every one out there!
Today I happen to dig out a Sense 4 ROM for our E4G which boots, doesn't reboot THAT often and is resized well (what, you want links? I think that's a private workspace and maybe I shouldn't tell). But what bugs me most is that SystemUI (statusbar) always FCs for no reason and I can't do anything with that.
So here I got a HTC Incredible S ("vivo", which is the port base for our Sense 2.1 ROM) with a fully-functional Sense 4.1 build. Everything's working and things are better sized for WVGA. And it's smooth. Considering it's a single core device, I think there is already no obstacle blocking the port (I know that Sense4All project paused because One X is a quad core device and gets all sorts of reboots. Correct me if I'm wrong).
Thus, I wanna ask, as a non-coding noob:
1) Is porting process the same as common tutorials (copying frameworks, libs, etc)?
2) If not, is this even possible (to have Sense 4.1 ported from vivo)?
3) If not, again, what can I do to improve my current build on hand (i.e. simply stopping the SystemUI FC and maybe adding more HWA)? I don't intend to use the ROM as a daily driver... Just a tool for showing off
So... Thanks again for reading the thread and hope you can offer some guidance
Sent from HTC Incredible S @ Sense 4.1
If there was a stable version of Sense 2.1 or 4.0, it would be my daily driver. I really hope this project isn't abandoned.

2.1 is already very usable apart from BT (nah I don't use that), but many devs have already left or are silent. Must be with their new toys. That's why I'm trying to help. If I had time in winter vacation I'll try a bit, but hope not too high
And so I need some guidance and answers... Please. Even one answer will do.

I do want to, but I'm not a code dev and know almost nothing except that "brute-force" porting method, and I don't know whether that will work.
I mean, here I got a fully working Sense 4 build on a SINGLE-CORE device, so is this a proof that porting to us is also possible?

You ported sense 4 to an htc phpne which is much easier than porting it to something not even close to compatible with the hardware so it will be more difficult

But... I said
1) We HAD a now paused project that has ported Sense 4 and made it boot
2) I have a better Sense 4 base ROM (for our device, not HTC's) at hand with fewer random FCs
3) xboxfanj said that the port reboots because One X is quad core, and the ROM will keep searching for the extra cores. But IncS is single core and runs that beautifully (its port is based on One V and Desire X)
And that's why I'm seeking answers.

Part of the problem is that we couldn't port qualcomm roms which would be stable if they booted, but we never got it booting. Tegra is all intercoded into libs and looks for kernel files we don't have which causes it to reboot and be unstable.

To be honest, we never quite figured it out. We never got a proper logcat, since it only gave us unhelpful information, which means it doesn't even start to fully boot.

And this means all my expectes efforts should be in vain, huh?
But check this, I got a Sense 4 ROM from marcusant's site and it's a port from Desire Z, based on One V seemingly. So far apart from all the hardware issues (wifi, cam, sensor), only thing that prevented me from sticking to it is that SystemUI often FCs. And I think that is another base to start on, since IT'S QUALCOMM.

Is that so? There are two items in About Phone indicating phone model. One of them says "HTC One V", which I think is the port source, while the other says "HTC Desire Z", which is the device ported to I assume. I know that these can be modded, but why the hell does anyone take the trouble to mod it to Desire Z when we are Epic 4G? Thus I think it's a Qualcomm port.
Have you looked into it yet? Or maybe it's really your work and you know about it?

Incredible 2, HTC Rhyme, Droid 3, or Droid X2?

Hi,
I'm looking for a 3G only phone for Page Plus and it seems like the Incredible 2, HTC Rhyme, Droid 3, and Droid X2 are the best choices.
From what I've read, only the Incredible 2 and HTC Rhyme will be getting ICS. If that is true, I'll probably get one of those. Anyone know when this will happen and whether it is true?
Which phone is better?
It's been a long road so far for us to get any update to ICS, and there haven't been any signs that we'll be getting it soon. The Thunderbolt did get it, which leaves some hope for the Inc2, but it isn't for sure. I don't know about the Rhyme having ICS. As for the other Droids I don't have any experience with them.
All that being said the Inc2 has a really good community so you can be sure that ICS/JB development will continue until the official update, at which point there will be CM10 and MIUI and ROMs you've never heard of. It sounds like... a dream..
