I am a first time poster and first time andriod user coming from an iphone 3gs. I got my phone last week and was super excited to root it and remove the bloatware and other crap. In my haste, I went ahead and rooted and started turning stuff off via TIbackup.
I made sure and made a backup of all my apps before I did this, however at the time the phone was rooted I did not have an SD card and did not do a nandriod backup.
My question now is:
A.) Can I unroot my phone?
B.) Can I save the apps I've paid for before unrooting and reinstall them?
C.) If A and B are true, how would I do about backing up my paid apps, unrooting, flashing the stock rom, then re-rooting and re-installing my paid apps?
If there a thread or tutorial that someone could point me to? I'm not a total newb for tech stuff, just totally new to andriod. So far I am loving it 100X more than my iphone, but I would like to take it back to base just in case the phone should ever have to be returned.

apps that you have paid for automatically shows back up in android market, you can download them as many time as you want again, as long as you use the same email account
alternative method, use any of the backup apps to do the backup, but you will only get the apk without the data, if you don't have root
c: same as b:
just restore or re-install instead of backup
the best thing is to have Titanium Backup, then both B + C becomes automatic, but root is required
Thanks AllGamer. I got it back to stock, did a nandroid backup, then re-rooted. Just need to go through and remove all the crap again!!
Quick question on an unrelated topic. when I pull up TI Backup, it says under Overview > System ROM: 615mb
Does this mean I did not wipe out the first ROM when I unrooted? Will effect anything?

I have already rooted my friends phone with the 1.47.651.1 ota update and everything went fine.
My only problem is I have a lot of apps I don't want to loose, paid ones as well. Is there anyway to back these all up?
Obviously I have no problem getting the free ones back but if I had to delete the paid one is it possible to get it back without paying again?
Don't quote me on this, but i believe i have read in a few places around the forums that say you can redownload paid apps without paying again.
Did you just get the phone / have to run any of the OTA updates? It might be possible that the original unrevoked method can let you use Titanium Backup to backup all your apps, then you can run a root + nand unlocker & just restore your apps.
correct, paid apps are tied to your gmail account, so as long as you use that gmail account then you can re download any app you paid for.
I agree with Veritas - Titanium Backup will be your best friend if you plan to root, flash ROMs and so forth.
I've been using Titanium Backup since I got my EVO and I love it. Very easy to backup all user apps/data to the SD card. Once a new ROM is flashed, install Titanium Backup (your license key is located on your SD card, so as long as you dont format that, you should be fine. You can copy that file to your PC as well for a backup). Once the new ROM is up and running, simply do a Titanium restore of all user apps/data. If it werent for Titanium Backup, I would not be flashing custom ROMs as often as I do.
This takes a while but you can backup apps with most of the file managers on the market without root access. All it backs up is the apk though. Just use it for the free ones. After you root then titanium backup is your best friend

when say going from stock 2.2 to cm 6.1.1? What id like is to say, take a list of my currently installed apps on the froyo, or from a backup, and make a list of them to be installed, with the accounts and what not set up. or, mount a backup so i can look at the apps i have installed and their passwords.

You can use titanium to install apps from other android versions? Because with the backup that comes with cwm, i tried restoring just the data after going to cm 6.1.1 and i got a weird little half brick device until i manually booted into recovery and reinstalled the rooted stock back up i made. now i wanna go back to cm 6.1.1 but i dont feel like writing a bunch of stuff down.

Works for me when I say restore back a 6.1.1 after running some 2.3. Usually I'm restoring (apps + data) stuff like setCPU_donate and other 3rd party apps and settings. Couldn't hurt but I'll tell you, messing with restoring anything other than a full rom backup in CWM makes me a bit nervous. Luckily there are alot of things to do what you're asking.
Yeah it made me nervous too after i did it. I didnt figure that user data itself would cause a perma brick though. But i was almost completely sure it wouldnt work at the time. And now i am completely sure. Yeah i downloaded titanium back up, and i backed up the apps i wanted to save the account info for, so we'll see what happens after cm gets done doin its thing.
Yes, Titanium Backup will backup not only the app, but also the user data as well - which is *way* handy.
It'll also backup system apps, so you do need to kinda watch what you're restoring (the free version of Titanium Backup makes you manually confirm every single app you restore, so it's a bit harder to screw up). It's a pretty sweet app, highly recommended.
Installing/restoring between versions is no problem.

Quick Q for Titanium. When I do a batch operation, it still asks me if I want to install the apk and then another if i want to open it or hit done. Is there a way to bypass those screens?

Only if you buy the Pro version or whatever. It's not too expensive. I actually kinda like those screens, as it gives me a double-check so I don't install something I didn't want to.
Hi. What do I need in order to backup my SMS, emails, gmail, google and samsung accounts settings, general phone settings, etc, as I assume they'll get wiped if I flash firmware? Apps I'm not to bothered, I'll make a list then redownload.

Thanks for the suggestions. Seeing as how Titanium backup and My backup pro are all in one backup apps, they interest me the most. My Backup Pro is most appealing to me, looks dead easy to use.
But the titanium one says I need to be rooted, is that right? But I'm not rooted, so I guess it won't back up my stuff?
My Backup Pro, according to someone, you need to pay to have extra online storage as it only gives you 100mb?

I would recommend Titanium backup, it can do everything you want.
You cant restore everything, in titamium backup, items in red are ones you shouldnt restore unless you are willing to risk things breaking, green is for useful+safe things (eg sms's, account settings, call history) and user apps can for the most part be back'ed up and restores however you wish (data+app, just data).
You will need a rooted phone, which means odin flashing a kernel.

Thanks veyka. Ah well, I don't think I'll bother then since you confirmed i need a rooted phone, it's more hassle than it's worth. Guess I'll get the free SMS app which was suggested, redownload apps myself, transfer photos and movies manually to my hard drive, and re-do my phone settings. Not bothered about emails really since they're all duplicated on my pc anyway.

Apparently I need to use ODIN which will wipe stuff, unless that's not the case or unless there's some other way to upgrade to 2.3.4 without losing stuff on the phone?

You can wait for the official Samsung 2.3.4 firmware upgrade to be rolled out via KIES for your phone .

Ye, I was considering that from a warranty pov amongst other things. Is there word on an approximate relase date? Also, I don't have WI-FI for Kies Air. Will it be a file I can download to PC then use kies to transfer to my phone, just like I do now when connecting the USB cable and Kies comes up on screen then shows my phone's internal storage on my PC screen?
My knowledge of roms and the like is very limited, so forgive me if this seems like a dumb question.
Basically, my Nexus is a huge distraction during school, but I don't want to purchase a dumb phone. So instead, I'd rather have a rom I flash in the morning that has everything but productivity apps deleted and then a rom I flash at home that has everything. However, I'd hate to flash a rom and not have it save what apps I have deleted.
Is there any sort of solution for this?
Have a ROM setup exactly like you like, save it as a nandroid backup. Then setup the other one, save it as a nandroid. Then you can restore back and forth. Honestly though this is going to be a huge hassle, as you're gonna have to backup the current ROM every time you switch so that you come back to the same spot.
My advice? Learn how to be responsible with your phone and pay attention in class. A simpler solution if you really have no self control is a second launcher that has the distracting apps hidden.

You don't need to flash multiple roms, the luxury of being rooted is you have full control of your device!! Download Titanium Backup from the Google Play Store. This app allows you to make backups of your apps including all the data that is associated with it, and if you feel the need to remove them in the morning you can do so and then when you are home you can restore them one by one or do a batch restore and restore them all at once. You have the option to restore them with or with out data as well. Example being would be games like Angry Birds lets say and you are on level 9,000 but don't want to delete it or lose it flashing another rom then you back it up and can uninstall it and then restore it whenever you want!! This would be the same for flashing a new rom, when the new rom boots up re-download Titanium from the Play Store and then restore all apps you have saved..

I've installed and deleted probably hundreds of apps since getting the phone. I'm new to Android and figured I'd like to try all sorts of new apps and then realized I didn't like a good many of them and deleted them. I understand that Android likes to leave baggage behind when deleting apps!!!
My phone is a bit laggy now (sometimes 2 or 3 seconds to refresh home screen) and I'd like to clean it up. So, what are my options? If I restore to factory stock, will I have to install everything all over again? It was a PITA to get all of my 100+ iPhone contacts and just as many Notes migrated over. Will a titanium backup automatically re-install all of my current apps (strange thing is Ti made a backup to the phone itself, which seems useless if I restore to factory stock. Won't that also erase the backup?)
If a restore is in order, might I be better served installing TWRP instead of CWM (again, looking for ease of use due to newbie status).
Now that I'm "unlocked" do I even need to have Titanium Backup, or will CWM or TWRP do the same thing?
I see from some reviews that TWRP might be better than CWM. For a newbie it seems that TWRP is the way I should go. The thing is, IIRC FreeGee installed CWM and didn't give me the option to go TWRP. So, is there a workaround...or can I install TWRP on top of CWM (or some way to delete CWM, before installing TWRP)?
How would you proceed in bringing phone back up to speed, and is there some way to then re-install all of my apps and contacts automatically?
For a minute there I thought there was a new ROM for the OGP. This thread belongs in Q&A section. I did mine in different order. I updated to the new firmware first then root then FreeGee's CWM recovery. After that, I uninstall/disable all the bloatware.
As for backing up contacts, I usually update the contacts in Google Voice. That way, doesn't matter what phone you get, as long as you sign into the google account, the contacts automatically transfers into the phone. Not sure if Titanium has auto restore feature. I mainly use it in manual backup and restore.

I saw the thread, " Root for LG Optimus G Pro E980(AT&T), E988(HK) + CWM + TWRP (*Updated*)" here in this section and figured it was related to my particular issue, so i posted here. Please excuse my intrusion if i posted in the wrong section. I respectfully ask a Mod to move this to the proper location if necessary!
Happens more than you would think. If this is the worse that happens to you today, it's a good day.
I am getting my OGP tomorrow and haven't had a lot of experience with this model so I will let a more experience user reply. And hopefully, a mod can move this to the proper location.
