So I seem to have a problem with my Epic Touch. (Caution: Semi-lengthy explanation ahead).
First of all, I am running the stock ROM with the ZedomaxEpicTouchKernel v6.02.
Last night I happened to let my phone die all the way, and i plugged it into the wall charger this morning. Everything seemed to go normal at first, the red indicator light and battery charging icon came on. However, after letting it charge awhile (10 - 15 minutes) I came back to see how much it had charged, only to find that when i pressed the power button nothing happened (it didn't wake the screen as it normally would).
So, I tried to long press the power button to see if the device would turn on, and it didn't. I disconnected the phone from the charger, did a battery pull, and reconnected the phone to the charger, and the device did the same thing it did, when I initially connected it to the charger.
I tried using my old charger for my Samsung Captivate, and the Epic Touch is still doing the same thing. At this point, I'm not sure what else to do. I am able to access CW Recovery mode, but not Download Mode (Error message saying battery too low to enter Download mode). Right now, I have the phone in Recovery Mode, to see if the battery will charge that way. Would wiping the battery stats help?
Somebody PLEEEEAAAASE tell me that there's a fix for this, and hopefully it doesn't involve going to the sprint store.
if you can get to cwm then try flashing another kernel from a zip and see if that helps.
just be sure to leave it plugged in while flashing so it doesn't die
I had that happen with zedomax 6.2 as well. Kind of. It wouldn't take a charge at all this morning. I have the no moar power app and it stays at 0%. It was at around 40% last night when I plugged it in. had to flash lost .8 to get the power going. It must be something with the undervolt? I've used other zedomax kernels with no problem.

Thanks for the help guys. I'll try a different kernel and see if that helps. I found by entering CWM Recovery and letting it charge for awhile, then selecting 'reboot' did the trick in getting it to boot. Im coming from using the Samsung captivate, so things work similar but the ET4G is still kinda new to me.
What kernel/ROM would you guys suggest? I am a big fan of CM7 and I really hope we get a build soon.

I had flashed Caulkin's_format_all.zip and I managed to accidentally reboot my phone before flashing a rom or anything. The phone will not power on, and if I plug it in, the charge indicator will not turn on. I've already tried pulling the batt for 5 minutes with no luck. any suggestions?
I did this once by being too quick at pushing the power button , I was able to reboot into recovery by pushing volume down and power button and then install a backup or you could flash rom. Hope this helps.
problem is, I can't even get it to boot, be it normal boot or bootloader.
If you hook it up to the computer, is it recognized?
Your going to have to borrow someones battery. I've seen people with this problem and for some reason, your phone won't recognize your battery and since it won't it won't charge it. Trust me, stick in a different battery and you will boot right up.
I've tried using my sprint extended life batt and the stock htc batt. neither worked.
and pc won't even recognize it.

So 100% sure that both batteries you've tried have a charge on them? And still no led when plugged in, to computer or wall? That sucks, because it sounds like it got bricked, somehow. I have also accidentally booted after flashing calk's format all from hitting the power button too quick, and as the other guy said, I was able to get to the bootloader by voldown+power, and restore a nandroid. I don't know what went differently in your case, but if you're positive that the batteries you've tried are good and charged, and you get no power led plugged into the wall, then it does sound like you somehow got a brick? Did you try leaving it plugged in for some time? A couple hours maybe, just to see if the led comes on?
Also make sure you are using a wall charger, I know if my battery charge is too low or dead the usb on my computer won't work, I then have to use the wall charger. The led will flash at first before starting to charge. When led is flashing phone won't turn on.
Edit:I just saw wall charging mentioned in previous post. I guess it shows the importance of it
I haven't tried leaving it plugged in. doing that now.
so I took it into the sprint store today and even the techs couldnt figure it out. I've got a replacement on the way. thanks for your suggestions guys!

Well i guess that may be a way of doing it. Completely break the phone if something goes wrong during root
hmmm.... weird.... your phone decided it had enough flashing apparently
First ive seen of a phone completely bricked that wasn't during a radio update.
I recently was experiencing my phone auto booting. When i take out the battery and place it back in the phone it automatically restarts without me pressing the power button... this happens also when i use the power button to shut down. The only time it doesnt reboot is when i have the charger plugged in. I have no idea why this is happening, i wiped and reflashed my rom (mexdroidmod, its awesome) and it continued. I then rewiped and flashed osimood and the autobooting was still there... help?

it might have to do with timing. if u take ur battery out and put right back in mine reboots but if i leave it out for more than 5 sec it stays off. idk bout power button.

Sadly i left my battery out for a hour and when i placed it in again it reboots..... this doesnt affect my phones performance i am just terrified that its a sign of worse things to come... (came from the dreaded bell galaxy s with its sd card issues.... never getting samsung again.... )

I have the exact same problem. I just realized yesterday. It's worth investigating.
Sounds like it might be a hardware issue. Power button might be broken. Maybe? Now I've I have read you posts again I'm not sure if it is or not.
I also have this problem, just found it out.
When I power off the phone it will shut down, and then boot automatic.
hmm interesting i thought it was only me and noone else becuase no other person posted this issue ever lol think i should make a poll in the general section for people to try this since many people may have it without knowing...
I am not sure about the power button... it still wakes the phone up no problem.
ill probably make the poll this.

GREAT NEWS!
as posted by edkeys in cm7 nightly thread, drain your battery to 0% and let the device turn itself off completly dead, plug into charger and let it charge ~4 hours or until your light turns green. unplug charger, phone will boot, load up your rom, power down, AND IT STAYS OFF!

It doesn't work, phone turns itself off.
Plug into charger and the phone boots...
It might take a few tries. I had to drain the battery 3 times and then let it fully charge for about 4-6 hours. On the third time trying it, it finally shuts down without auto rebooting.

Just pulled it for the 6th time.
It doesn't seem to work.
My EPIC 4G started acting up recently which wasnt a problem until now.
When i plug it in to charge while its off it turns itself on and boots up.
Before i used to turn it off and charge b/c it always charged faster but now i have a new battery that i was training. Somehow it drained the battery all the way down so when i go and charge it, it boots up. The problem is that there isn't enough battery to power my epic before it runs out so it never makes it through the whole boot up process.
now if i could get it so it went into charge mode i wouldn't have the problem anymore.
i checked in all the settings and i couldn't find an option for it.
thanks for the help
pete
Let the battery charge with phone on for about 20 to 30 mins, then try it again. U might need to cycle the battery a couple times

it won't even start...it just cycles over and over again
i had it plugged in and it restarted at least 6x before i gave up

try plugging the charger into the phone with the battery off. see what it does. if it is only doing this with your new battery, there may be some kind of conflict with your new battery making the charging sensor think something odd.

What rom?
×Marcusant
This happened to me on AOKP. ReOdin and repartition if you're up to it or on MTD. Flash your ROM again.
So I'm watching tv, and I plug in my phone to charge it a bit because the GPS had gotten stuck on this morning and I burned my battery down to 40%. All of a sudden I hear it buzzing over and over again...like a reboot loop.
So I pull it out of the charger, pull the battery and let it try to boot. Gives the samsung screen for a moment, then flickers, and again to the reboot loop. Holding down power for 10 sec makes it do the same thing, I can't force it into recovery or DL mode without it bootlooping either! At one point I was able to get to the download mode screen, but just 3 seconds and the screen goes black, and back to bootlooping.
I literally did nothing to it. Only thing I did different today was the GPS got stuck (which it has done before), I rebooted the phone, then when it booted again I went ahead and just shut off the GPS. But this was like 20 minutes before this started happening.
So what can I do? Right now its plugged into my computer charging while off, seems to be the only thing it can do without bootlooping.
Running CM9.1 Nightly 9/3 with included kernel and LC8 radio (I think)

My first guess is your battery is shot. i was gonna recommend the power button failure but if its staying off it might not be that. but id let it charge fully then try to boot up.
Thanks, oddly after a bit of messing around finally got it to boot up. Immediately backed up in CWM....seems to be acting OK now. Idk what happened...
i'll guess, the USB connector got short-circuited when you plugged in, and it caused a cascade failure that fried the SD card or something else inside the phone
there was a factory defect back then with the old SGS 1 (i9000m) model, they fixed that after the 3rd batch, everyone with an old phone from 1st and 2nd release batches, were able to exchange i for a new one.
however in your case, that's not a factory defect, but you plugged it wrong (my guess)
because it has happened to me before when i plugged it in, but the battery was still not charging even after several minutes, yet the phone was getting really really hot
then i unplug, and plug it back in and got the sound feedback "tuu tuud" and then it was actually charging after a few minutes
the first time around even though the charging icon changed, there was no feed back sound, and that was the key, it was not plugged in properly.
so after that time, i always made sure to verify to make sure the phone was plugged in properly and not just relay on he visual icon.
check back after a few minutes, to make sure the phone doesn't get very hot, and it actually increased 1%
It happened again today! After a full charge overnight and no problems for the day up to a little while ago, I opened my email app, it froze, then proceeded to start boot looping. I'm in class so I don't have my computer to try to bring it out of it...so yeah that sucks...
I do remember when I got it to charge yesterday it showed it was charging for 20-30 minutes, but after I "revived" it, I found it hadn't charged at all.
I have been using a Nokia USB cable to charge my phone since I got it, because it was longer than the cheapie Samsung cable that came with it...but it hasn't ever caused problems before. And it charged just fine last night.
How long is the warranty on these things thru tmobile? I may just swap it out while I still can.
Also on an unrelated note, I upgraded to the LG3 radio because I was meaning to anyways...
I pulled it out of it again! This time I held the power button while putting the battery in, when it vibrated I let go, it vibrated again, showed the Samsung logo, and then booted like normal
May I ask what rom are you currently on?

CM9.1 nightly 9/3 with included kernel
It did it a third time during class while it was in my pocket, the power button trick didn't work this time, I had to pull the battery after the samsung logo, plugging it back in to get it to boot...but...
near the end of the CM9 boot animation, when it vibrates and the auto brightness kicks in, it started it again! I have yet to revive it...
This is a bit upsetting because I had just got CM9 the way I liked it and I don't exactly have the time right now to mess with warranty and a new phone...I would like to fix it.
There are about 20 different threads on here on how to revert to stock...let me as a last ditch try to revert to stock and see if it keeps doing it...unless somebody has any ideas...
I was working in recovery mode, i super-wiped my phone to see if installing a ROM from scratch would help, and my phone even does it in recovery mode. Warranty time.
So whats the fastest way to restore to stock? Who knows how long I will have after reviving it before it breaks again.

Thanks! got it all done, back to ugly, ugly stock lol...and just when I thought maybe I would have to brick it myself it did the reboot thing again...so pulled the battery and there it sits factory reset.
So, my LGOG is soft-bricked with a dead battery (happened during a twrp backup, although i swear it was at least 60% when i started). I can get to fastboot by holding vol up and power, and then plugging it in (i lgnpst'd teenybin), but when i try to load recovery it shows a black screen that says google and has an unlocked padlock at the bottom for an instant, then dies.
Everyone on IRC has been very helpful, especially autoprime. When i plug it in, the cap button lights and the red led flash. I plugged it the wall in for about 30 minutes, no heat, nothing. So I am just going to leave it unplugged for the night in hopes something will reset or die enough that the battery charges next time i plug it in. Otherwise I will try a battery pull, and go from there.
If anyone has any insight on getting my battery charged via another method, it is certainly welcome and appreciated.
Did it charge? I'm curios if you fixed it.

It may have just been my luck, but when this happened to me, I put the phone into download mode by plugging into a USB port while holding volume up and volume down. After that, I unplugged and powered off, then plugged back in to normal ac charger, and it began to charge, as it showed the battery icon. Left it for a bit, then booted it up no problem. Might be worth a try before opening the phone.

Well, when i unplug mine from download mode, it dies immediately, so i don't think I am getting an opportunity to power it off to reset, but I'll give it a try. Thanks for the suggestion!
UPDATE: I tried, but with no avail, it just goes back to flashing alternately between the cap lights and the red led. I am going to try flashing zv9 stock in lgnpst, to see if maybe i can get into stock recovery.
maybe try charging from download mode? only thing i can think of
Battery pull LGOG worked
Well, battery pull worked! As soon as I flipped that battery bracket back down, the phone powered up and booted fine.
Now here is the interesting part... my phone powered back up and the battery was at 69%. It was not by any means dead. I even left it off the charger for a while to confirm. So, something happened during my TWRP backup that tripped a fault. Could allowing the screen to timeout in TWRP have caused this?
Either way, I want to thank autoprime again for helping me get to this point. My LGOG is back!

Well since I LGNPSTd back when jelly bean leaked and I flashed the update, I have not done anything but root. In fact, I had just installed FreeGee and installed TWRP 2.5 and was doing my first backup. So, something must have gotten corrupt during the backup; possibly because I was on the flashed update vs the OTA, idk...
