[Q] Flashed Caulkin's_format_all.zip, will not turn on - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I had flashed Caulkin's_format_all.zip and I managed to accidentally reboot my phone before flashing a rom or anything. The phone will not power on, and if I plug it in, the charge indicator will not turn on. I've already tried pulling the batt for 5 minutes with no luck. any suggestions?

I did this once by being too quick at pushing the power button , I was able to reboot into recovery by pushing volume down and power button and then install a backup or you could flash rom. Hope this helps.

problem is, I can't even get it to boot, be it normal boot or bootloader.

If you hook it up to the computer, is it recognized?

Your going to have to borrow someones battery. I've seen people with this problem and for some reason, your phone won't recognize your battery and since it won't it won't charge it. Trust me, stick in a different battery and you will boot right up.

I've tried using my sprint extended life batt and the stock htc batt. neither worked.

and pc won't even recognize it.

So 100% sure that both batteries you've tried have a charge on them? And still no led when plugged in, to computer or wall? That sucks, because it sounds like it got bricked, somehow. I have also accidentally booted after flashing calk's format all from hitting the power button too quick, and as the other guy said, I was able to get to the bootloader by voldown+power, and restore a nandroid. I don't know what went differently in your case, but if you're positive that the batteries you've tried are good and charged, and you get no power led plugged into the wall, then it does sound like you somehow got a brick? Did you try leaving it plugged in for some time? A couple hours maybe, just to see if the led comes on?

Also make sure you are using a wall charger, I know if my battery charge is too low or dead the usb on my computer won't work, I then have to use the wall charger. The led will flash at first before starting to charge. When led is flashing phone won't turn on.
Edit:I just saw wall charging mentioned in previous post. I guess it shows the importance of it

I haven't tried leaving it plugged in. doing that now.

so I took it into the sprint store today and even the techs couldnt figure it out. I've got a replacement on the way. thanks for your suggestions guys!

Well i guess that may be a way of doing it. Completely break the phone if something goes wrong during root

hmmm.... weird.... your phone decided it had enough flashing apparently
First ive seen of a phone completely bricked that wasn't during a radio update.

Won't power on

Hey guys, I'm having a problem I thought you might be able to help me with.
I had my phone hooked to the charger. When I went back to it a few minutes later, the phone was powered off. There was also no charge LED lit either.
Now, I am not able to power the phone on at all. I get no LEDs when I plug it up.
I have tried taking the battery out several times. Has anyone else ran into this issue.
Also, I am not rooted, I am running on stock software.
You don't get the slash screen or anything?
Have you tried to get into recovery via adb?
We're you rooted / custom rom name?
You sound bricked
I do not get a splash screen or anything what so ever.
This phone has never been rooted. My original phone was, but after an issue with roaming and 3g I swapped it and decided not to root the new phone.
I have tried powering on with the volume button down, but still nothing. My pc does not recognize it at all when I plug it in either.
Also, I have tried 3 different charges and cables as well.
I had the same problems. I just weighted and mess with the power button and the battery. Steps that I did
1. hold the power button for like 5 second w/battery on phone
2. than while holding the p/button took the battery out and than put it back
I did this like 5 time, than it came on.I don't know what it was luck or what but it work for me. All of this happen before I rooted the phone.
Didn't work
Thanks for the input though.
It might just be dead. Maybe a power surge or something. idk.
Well, I finally got it working. It ended up being the battery. When it messed up, it was plugged into my g19 keyboard. This ended up completely draining my battery.
I swapped batteries with my friend to verify this. It than took over an hour to charge my battery to the point of the Orange led comming on.

I'm F****d!!! please help!

so my droid inc died on me at work the other day, im running cm7 build 36 or 37 i think and i cant get it to turn back on. no charging light when i plug it in either. like i get nothing from it! have pulled the battery numerous times.. tried with a known good battery with life in it and still nothing. i really need your guys' help!
Have you tried to get into recovery yet?

Have you tried a different charger yet? Different outlet? If that doesn't work your charging port may have come loose.
yea ive tried but it wont let me do anything....
Same Boat
I am in the same boat. I was rooted but wanted to go back to stock. So I put the stock image on my sd card, installed it, and on the reboot its not doing anything.
Reminds me of when I attempted to flash a radio and got an "!" inside of a triangle. I pulled the battery and my poor Droid Eris was Bricked beyond (my) repair.
ok, so when you push the power button nothing happens... have you done a full battery pull? Happened to me during the nightlys once or twice i pulled batt and it rebooted

Steve, do you have a slcd? I'm betting you went back to the original stock which doesn't have a slcd driver. Search http://www.incredibleforum.com/ for an easy fix. There's an easy fix on there somewhere. I tried a 100 different things and nothing worked but finally got it. You should be able to boot into recovery if this is the case but I never could... I did get it fixed but don't remember exactly how.
bradatz is right. you could try to do a stock 2.2 ruu or a 2.2 PB31IMG.zip. the display driver for amoled is not compatible for slcd models.
see if this helps:

Bingo
Thanks guys for the heads up on the display situation. I do have SLCD, and my bet this is the issue. I will work on this tonight and report back.
See this is exactly why we have these communities. The power of many is greater than the power of one!

PS - Looks like this posting does the trick: http://dougpiston.com/?p=133
My first thought would be if the phone is off/dead, and it wont charge when you plug it in, it isn't software so much as either charger or socket issue. Since you said you tried various chargers and it didn't work... have you tried finding a different battery, with a charge, and see if it'll turn on? If that's the case, your MicroUSB port or internal circuitry is shot. Or the leads are soiled (make sure there's nothing in there... I had problems and found a lint ball from my pocket wedged itself in there. Make sure if you're digging in there you take the battery out just in case.
I guess if you need to replace it do so soon, Asurion is raising their deductible to $90 from $80.
Tapatalk Pro Sig. Yep, boring.
I made that mistake It's scary. Especially if you do it the 1st day you get your new phone
I rooted my droid and then thought I didn't do it right where some programs said it couldn't get root access, so I went to flash back stock. Dead screen
Following doupistons site helped me get back up and running.
If your phone vibrates when you turn it on after doing a battery pull, then it's probably an SLCD issue. If not, it's likely a battery issue.
You say you were running CM7 with no problems on the phone, the battery drained, the phone turned off, and now it wont charge or turn on?
You can take it to Verizon and have them check the battery for you as well.

Steve's is an easy SLCD issue. Downgrade, lost screen.
The OP's... well I have no idea but since it doesn't boot up and gets no charging led then I'd say it sounds like the phone is dead. Best of luck to him and I hope he's got insurance.
i tried a new battery an still nothing, i believe i am amoled, and its like when you hold the power button and the volume up button and it vibrates, then wont turn on til you pull the battery, except its like locked in safe mode so bad that it wont even let the phone charge. so its dead, and wont come out of safe mode, and wont charge. wtf. i just got a new phone so i dont have insurance on it anymore but wanted to sell it to make some of the money i spent back...

Charge/Power Issue (please help)

Ok, so I have an HTC EVO 4G and I was doing a factory reset on it because I found that it had malware on it but then the battery died. I go home and i plug it in and it went into recovery mode but as I tried to scroll down, the phone shut down and it wont even turn on. No lights are on either. Can anyone help? I know that the reason it wont turn on has nothing to do with the malware because its a simple notification script. The only reason I decided to do a factory reset is because I wanted to clean out all the garbage on the rom. I'm open to any suggestions.
Have you pulled the battery and let it sit for a while? I've had similar issues before and that's worked for me. Let it sit for an hour then plug it in. Also if you have another charging cable use it. Your usb cable may have went bad. If that doesn't work I'd find a friend with an evo and try their battery.
It worked. (sorta)

So i found a friend with an evo and tried his battery and it didn't work, but we decided to swap batteries so he could charge mine through his own phone. And when the battery was at like 20% charge we put it back into the bricked phone and it turned on. It got stuck on the boot screen as expected but we took the battery out and went into the bootloader and wiped it from there. Thanks man. :good:

Think my phone is bricked now :(

My phone won't turn back on or charge anymore. The last thing i did was pause Google Music, then the phone just sat there. It wouldn't go to the home screen or anything, it froze. I pulled the battery and now it won't turn on or charge at all. Won't display the battery charging when i have it connected to the computer or wall. Can't enter fastboot either. I'm currently at work and the computers here wont recognize it when i connected via USB.

I doubt it's bricked. Will it start up into the bootloader?
Again, try pulling the battery for a few minutes. Then put everything back together but wait until you have access to a true USB charger, not a USB port on a computer. I've noticed with a few phones in the past (GNex included) that sometimes when I had a bad crash and the phone went unresponsive, that trying to get a hint of life while using a USB port didn't work as well as a charger. You'll probably have to leave it plugged in for a little bit, but after 15-30 minutes you should once again at least get the white battery charging icon to display front-and-center if you give the power button a single push. At that point, try booting into fastboot, then recovery and clean things up a bit before rebooting into android (Wipe Caches, Fix Permissions).
If not, seriously, do everything again, and wait with it charging overnight. I had a similar issue with my Nexus 10 after doing my first unroot and flashing on it. It took nearly an hour, but then I finally got the charging icon (in that case though, a battery pull wasn't feasible).

Yeah i tried all of that since 1 pm yesterday, that's when it just died on me. I have left the phone charging for over an hour and still don't get any sign of life, not even the white battery charging icon. Left the phone charging overnight, that didn't work also. I tried the OMAP fix but that also failed, it isn't recognized by my laptop.
That's a bummer. Once I had an Epic 4G that I also thought was bricked but the "leave it charge overnight" method worked even though the charging led wasn't on at all. I'm surprised that I now have seen an actual thread with a truly bricked device, not the usual "my phone is going into boot loops its bricked!" thread. Sorry to hear it man.
This may be irrelevant to you, but mine is on verizon and was having charging problems. I went into one of their stores and they had a replacement on the way in under 15 minutes of me coming in. Great service from them if that's who you're with carrier-wise.

Everything was working perfectly on mine, the battery was at 80%. I'm with T-Mobile and i know they don't carry the Galaxy Nexus. Would a Verizon store let me check if a new battery will be turn it back on? If not, guess i have no other choice but to call Samsung =/

[Q] Fried battery?

So occasionally if I'm up too late, I don't hear my alarm (on phone). Well, I had noticed recently it got super warm to the touch if I overslept a bit, I think because it just buzzes constantly while plugged into the wall.
Anyway, it won't turn out now without direct power plugged in. Tried reformatting, wiping cache, everything.. I can get it plugged into the pc and booted up but as soon as I try to select media storage, it fails. Won't turn back on now even with it plugged in.
Any suggestions, did my battery just croak?
TYIA.

For real? Man, I'll be honest.. I had to break my flashing addiction, so I intentionally got an older Nex, so I could root, and leave it the F alone.. Haven't flashed a ROM since I owned it (bought it unlocked like 12 months ago), couldn't even tell you what ROM is/was on it..
Since when is it a bad thing to charge overnight? I adopted that habit when I went android. :/

well some phones don't have any problems with ovecharging but its not recommended nevertheless
heard some batteries were F***** up from overchargind
Same exact thing happened to me...thought the phone was fried. I replaced the battery as a last ditch effort and she lit up like a Christmas tree. And as for that last response, I leave mine on the charger all night literally every night without any negative issues. You cannot overcharge the battery on an android phone. They have protective charging circuits, just like laptops.

I'm hoping it's only that but wouldn't it fire up with wall charge? It freeze on the Google loading screen.. have a feeling it's cause I wiped it and maybe it didn't finish.
EDIT: Okay, I obviously was a bit messed up earlier.. I factory wiped it, including the OS.. how can I jump an OS onto this thing if it won't boot without charge?
Okay, well the symptoms sound exactly the same as when I fried my battery. At first, mine would only boot with a wall charge, but then it stopped doing even that. The only thing I could get into was the boot loader. I'd try a new battery before worrying too much. In the meantime, however, can you see if the phone is being recognized by a Windows PC, or if you can get the bootloader? If it is bricked, there is a bit of software called OMAPFlash that i used once that can completely reset the phone's programming.

If you just wiped the OS from recovery you should still be able to boot into fastboot. Are you able to boot into fastboot (power+volume up+volume down)? If so then it is not hard to fix.
If you can't boot into fastboot, try:
1) Without battery, plugged into wall (try a different charger)
2) Without battery, plugged into computer
3) With a different USB cable.
Does it vibrate when turning on? And does it go into fastboot?

When I plug it in, the initial charging indicator comes up (Battery with lightning bolt), but won't otherwise turn on via holding power.. or get into fastboot at all. If I plug it into my pc, it initially shows the power indicator again but same deal. Interestingly enough tho, my pc makes the sounds it makes when it's syncing or installing usb drivers for something.. except it starts, then stops, then continues.. it's non-stop trying to sync but nothing is happening, it's almost as if it's getting either a partial charge/connection and then it stops. What I thought before was a battery I'm thinking is worse cause I can't get the thing on at all now. :/ Might be time to hit Verizon today..
It was the battery but now I have no OS on the phone.. UGH. I can't get it into storage mode to pull a new ROM over from PC to flash. Anyone know how to force a ROM over via adb?
