Hey guys, I'm having a problem I thought you might be able to help me with.
I had my phone hooked to the charger. When I went back to it a few minutes later, the phone was powered off. There was also no charge LED lit either.
Now, I am not able to power the phone on at all. I get no LEDs when I plug it up.
I have tried taking the battery out several times. Has anyone else ran into this issue.
Also, I am not rooted, I am running on stock software.
You don't get the slash screen or anything?
Have you tried to get into recovery via adb?
We're you rooted / custom rom name?
You sound bricked
I do not get a splash screen or anything what so ever.
This phone has never been rooted. My original phone was, but after an issue with roaming and 3g I swapped it and decided not to root the new phone.
I have tried powering on with the volume button down, but still nothing. My pc does not recognize it at all when I plug it in either.
Also, I have tried 3 different charges and cables as well.
I had the same problems. I just weighted and mess with the power button and the battery. Steps that I did
1. hold the power button for like 5 second w/battery on phone
2. than while holding the p/button took the battery out and than put it back
I did this like 5 time, than it came on.I don't know what it was luck or what but it work for me. All of this happen before I rooted the phone.
Didn't work
Thanks for the input though.
It might just be dead. Maybe a power surge or something. idk.
Well, I finally got it working. It ended up being the battery. When it messed up, it was plugged into my g19 keyboard. This ended up completely draining my battery.
I swapped batteries with my friend to verify this. It than took over an hour to charge my battery to the point of the Orange led comming on.

All,
I followed the steps to root my Evo by coming from 2.2 back to 2.1 in order to apply the unrEVOked method. Everything installed fine and I was able to boot into a custom ROM.
I then applied Manup's theme and my Evo continued booted to the splash screen and then stopped. Removed battery and inserted and now the phone won't even power on. Plug into wall and no charging indicator....does is sound like my Evo may be bricked? Also how could this be if the custom bootloader was available and allowed me to boot into recovery?
Does this sound like I'll need to have it replaced?

did you try and power up and hold down the down volume button to boot into recovery that way
Yes...that was the first thing I tried. Now the phone won't power on period whether I hold down the power by itself or with holding down the volume down button.
Even plugging it into the charger doesn't start the charging indicator
Had the same thing happen to me once. Plug into charger forvten minutes then try turning on. I can't explain whybthe chargevled didn't come on but mine came back on after it charged for awhile.

I'll let it charge for awhile and see if that fixes the problem
If the charging light does not come on when its plugged in. Attempt removing power, waiting a few seconds and plug it back in. You'll be wanting that light on.

In addition take out the battery for at least 30 seconds I did for a full minute, I had this exact thing happen removing all power sources seemed to help. Use the down arrow when powering on it should go into the bootloader. Also make sure you have a fully charged battery.
So I let it sit on the charger all night and still nothing.
I removed the power cable and plugged it back in with no results. I also removed the battery for 5 mins and put it back in....nothing.
I swapped batteries with a friennds evo that does have at least 50% charge....nothing.
I have the sam problem, what did you do to get it fixed
please respond
did you ever find a way to unbrick your evo because mine is bricked. i cant do anything with it. it wont accept a charge or even power on. i cant even get to the bootloader screen. and it has no charge light when plugged in to a power source. PLEASE HELP!!
I have been rooted for a while and successfully flashed a few Roms/Kerenels using rom manager. I was flashing the newest version of Myn and one of the "warm" kernels that it offered with it. Everything was going normally the rom loaded fashed the rom and kerenel the phone was reseting then out of nowhere i got the image of the white box and android guy with an arrw as if to say "android taken out of box" I left it like that for about 5 min then took the batt out and tried to reset it. I got the same image then i tried vol. up & power it vibrated 3x and did nothing. My buddy had the same problem yesterday and he got it workin. I called him and he said all he did was pull batt/restart over and over till it booted normally. I tried that about 10x then it would not turn on again. Plugged it in, no response no led light up.
Am I bricked past the point of no return, and if not what can I do to get back in business
Stay calm, pull battery out for 5 minutes and then put it back in, then put charger in and see if LED comes on.
did that batt was out for about 20 min plugged it back in nothing
let phone charge 30 minutes
will do.. from what you know does this sound like a typical brick scenario? I feel like I didnt do anything different from all the other times I flashed roms/kerenels it just kinda flipped out on me this time?
it just happened to me, my phone wouldnt turn on or charge. Pull out battery for 1 minutre, (make sure phone isnt plugged in) out battery in, DONT PLUG IN CHARGER YET.
power phone on, once u see the white evo splashscreen, plug charger in and wait seconds and u will see LED turn on.
keep me updated
No mtter what I do or at least nothing ive tried I cannot get the Evo to respond by turning on or lighting up or doing anything
To get into bootloader, you need to press and hold vol *down* and power. Sometimes mine is finicky...be sure to firmly press those buttons, and keep them just as firmly held until you see the bootloader screen.
If that doesn't work, you might have a dead battery. Can you swap batteries with a friend?
I had this happen to me with my girls evo. Its usually related to overheating. Do you happen to have a second battery? If yu had an htc hero, they have same battery. Worked for me.

This happened to me while flashing the newest EViO. Don't worry, if your phone turns on a little youre most likely fine.

Never got it working or turned on but I took it to a Sprint tech center andt they gave me a new one... It would not power on even when they opened it up. they just replaced it.
I had flashed Caulkin's_format_all.zip and I managed to accidentally reboot my phone before flashing a rom or anything. The phone will not power on, and if I plug it in, the charge indicator will not turn on. I've already tried pulling the batt for 5 minutes with no luck. any suggestions?
I did this once by being too quick at pushing the power button , I was able to reboot into recovery by pushing volume down and power button and then install a backup or you could flash rom. Hope this helps.
problem is, I can't even get it to boot, be it normal boot or bootloader.
If you hook it up to the computer, is it recognized?
Your going to have to borrow someones battery. I've seen people with this problem and for some reason, your phone won't recognize your battery and since it won't it won't charge it. Trust me, stick in a different battery and you will boot right up.
I've tried using my sprint extended life batt and the stock htc batt. neither worked.
and pc won't even recognize it.

So 100% sure that both batteries you've tried have a charge on them? And still no led when plugged in, to computer or wall? That sucks, because it sounds like it got bricked, somehow. I have also accidentally booted after flashing calk's format all from hitting the power button too quick, and as the other guy said, I was able to get to the bootloader by voldown+power, and restore a nandroid. I don't know what went differently in your case, but if you're positive that the batteries you've tried are good and charged, and you get no power led plugged into the wall, then it does sound like you somehow got a brick? Did you try leaving it plugged in for some time? A couple hours maybe, just to see if the led comes on?
Also make sure you are using a wall charger, I know if my battery charge is too low or dead the usb on my computer won't work, I then have to use the wall charger. The led will flash at first before starting to charge. When led is flashing phone won't turn on.
Edit:I just saw wall charging mentioned in previous post. I guess it shows the importance of it
I haven't tried leaving it plugged in. doing that now.
so I took it into the sprint store today and even the techs couldnt figure it out. I've got a replacement on the way. thanks for your suggestions guys!

Well i guess that may be a way of doing it. Completely break the phone if something goes wrong during root
hmmm.... weird.... your phone decided it had enough flashing apparently
First ive seen of a phone completely bricked that wasn't during a radio update.
I have a rooted HTC evo 4g. I rooted it about 2 months ago and have had no problems.
I woke up this morning, and it is bricked. I have not recently flashed anything or done anything beyond regular phone use.
i cannot enter download mode, and the "charging" led does not come on.
Any suggestions?
What does your phone do when you press the power button?
Have you removed the battery and inspected for indications of damage such as discoloration or bulges?
Have you tried connecting a different USB cable that is known to be working?
Have you visually inspected the USB connector for loose/damaged conductors?

the power button does nothing.
The usb cable and wall adapter works on my kindle, and i tried an additional one with no results.
The battery appears normal, however my next planned step is to try and get a replacement battery and see if that works.
Try taking battery out and then plug usb cable in only and try to turn on...

no dice.
also wondering about the cause... 2 potential things:
- I've noticed that the phone gets very hot. 40+ degrees even when not running much. Is this within normal tolerance or could i be looking at heat damage.
- I've been getting the pop-up asking me to do some sort of OTA update. I keep saying no, because i know these ota updates can be incompatible with rooted phones. Could it have pushed through somehow and if it did could it cause the problem i am experiencing?
phone is fixed.
A read on the sprint forum that sometimes holding down the power for an extended time can get the phone to be responsive... had to hold it for like 90 seconds. It then flashed the white evo boot screen and powered back down almost immediately.
After this, however, the orange charging light came on and i was able to get to boot loader. I let the phone charge for a while, then it boot up as normal.
One of the things i noticed is that the battery is practically completely drained... this is odd as it was plugged into the charger when it died. On the same sprint forum, others have speculated that sometimes the battery can drain to the point where it wont accept a charge anymore... so maybe thats the issue.
Hello everyone,
Thanks for always helping in times of trouble.
I was using my HTC one m8 normally, playing with facebook. The battery was on 82%. Suddenly the screen frooze then the whole phone went dead completely. Not even a screen backlight. I tried to power it up. It didn't work. It had original ROM, with no modifications whatsoever.
Here is what I did so far, without any results.
- Charge it for few days with original charger and cable directly from the wall. No sign of life. No charging flashing light.
- Charge it with another cable. Nothing.
- Tried to access the boot menu to wipe everything clean. Pressed power+volume down. Nothing. Dead Screen.
- Pressed power +volume up. Nothing. Dead Screen.
Pressed power + both volume buttons. Nothing. Dead Screen.
- Connect it to the computer with updated HTC Suite. The computer said no phone connected.
I using a crappy old iphone now, but would love to get this HTC back to life. Any past experience with similar situation?
Any tips to resuscitate the dead phone?
Thanks a lot for your help.
In some "stuck" or powered off conditions, you may need to hold the button combos for a minute or so, before it actually reboots. So make sure you are holding them long enough.
But the fact there isn't even a charge LED, is concerning. Even in brick conditions, you should get at least an orange/red LED (maybe blinking? Can't remember). Makes me think the battery is bad.
Also play around with the button combos with the charger connected. I've seen a couple folks have luck with this, when nothing else seemed to work.
Additionally, the phone won't connect to PC when powered down; even on a working phone. You at least need to get to a bootloader screen to connect to a PC in any way.

Thanks a lot for your reply.
I tried to do as instructed but it didn't work. I held the buttons on different combinations for at least two minutes but the phone stayed dead.
The only changed I noticed is one point I saw a very weak charging flash then it quickly disappeared and never came up again even when I repeated the process. Does this say anything?

Hard to know if this means anything specific. The symptoms don't look good. Might be bad battery, or other hardware failure.
