So I emailed [email protected] and got a call back..... - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

First of all I am new to Sprint...I previously had TMo. Picked up this phone cause it's a BEAST only to be let the [email protected] down by the data issues (I get slow speeds when I can even get data, I miss calls and no one ever gets my text messages...yea, it might be a little exaggerated but you all know what I am talking about.) I swapped it out and same thing. I understand that new phones can have issues, but come one man, the data on this thing is horrible.
So, I decided to email [email protected] and a rep called me the next day, she listened to me b!tch for a while and said they were "looking" into it. Got a call today from a network tech and he finally acknowledged a problem with the phone (something every other rep would not). The tech told me that an update was coming (which would fix all the data issues) but that he did not know when it would be coming out, of course not, that would be to much to ask. He also said that there are tower enhancements happening in my area and that I should see data speed improvements by the end of the month.
Now, I take this with a yea-I'll-believe-it-when-I-see-it attitude....so I hope this happens sooner than later. I love the specs of the phone but what good is it to me if I can't use it half the time. Just wanted to share all this with everyone. I plan on waiting a little longer for the update before I root the damn thing.
Thanks for reading.

Wall of text.
Hard to read.
I did the same thing about LOS. After two weeks, I got my upgrade reinstated.

Cleaned it up for ya.

i'm thinking about unrooting and waiting for the update

What's the email address? I'd like to email about issues I've had with Sprint since switching from T-Mobile. Funny thing is I just read a story about iPhone users complaining to Sprint about data speeds and now they are taking it seriously and looking into it. Funny though.. the site I read it on had a screen shot of speed tests and its about the same 3g speeds I get on my phone.. sure they complain and Sprint snaps to it...
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch

According to another thread on here they're currently upgrading their network in many areas and judging by the amount of people that experienced positive results I believe it. as for the los issue...I know that sprint is currently working on working on a patch for the phone as of today. So hang in there and stay positive!

[email protected]

Why wait to root... rooting is too easy for this phone and affects nothing... why unroot to wait for an update which the community will have the same day if not earlier in a rooted form... To each his own but from my Evo days I seen a lot of people unroot only to have problems re-rooting...IMHO

When I got my phone about 2 weeks ago my data speeds were terrible. Starting yesterday it's been great! Data as fast as it used to be.

My data speeds were pretty bad up until a few days ago also. Looks like they are fixing data speed problems.

I will concur with the better data speeds the past couple days. Came from Verizon for this phone, and to save some $$ and was Very disappointed in data. Last few days have been nice.

So far of all the three current SGS2's, the best one is the Epic Touch 4g. Phonedog ran Quadrant Standard and the ET4G was at 3414, the ATT SGS2 was at 3100 (something). The T-Mobile version has a faster processor, but it's not the Exynos but a snapdragon. I have T-Mobile and Sprint, the T-Mobile version wasn't quite as smooth in the store. my EG4t was running stuff and still was smoother.

File a complaint on AT&T with BBB for not delivering 8107 update

Even after two months of getting 8107 update AT&T is not releasing 8107 update. When asked most of us are getting a response "What update? AT&T has no knowledge of update".
Some of us on AT&T forum are taking a Best Business Bureau route, to lodge complaint on AT&T. All of us got a call from AT&T, and to all of us they said “We don’t know anything about the update yet, but if we get enough complaints on BBB, AT&T may take action and release the update.
So I am asking XDA members who are on AT&T and using WP7 to help the cause and lodge complains with BBB.
Could you please spend few minutes and file a complaint. Just mention the device you are using, and mention even though you are facing keyboard issues AT&T is not delevering the fix which rectifies the issue.
Bumping for a good cause.

The Better Business Bureau is a for profit corporation that boosts company ratings for cash. The problems with this attempt is that 1) the BBB is not well respected and 2) AT&T could just pay them off. Their fees are not expensive for a major corporation and, if AT&T is already a BBB member, you can bet nothing will come of this. -.-

what about complaining about 4G Speeds
Has anybody had problems with the 4G Speeds on their Windows Phones? The first day that I had my Samsung Focus S, I was getting decent speeds on 4G, I believe that they were just about 8-10mbps down and 2-3mbps up. After about a week or so the speeds have dropped. I am now only getting 2-4mbps down and >2mbps up. I have read that other people have been having this problem as well, saying that AT&T is throttling speeds for Windows Phones. Just wanted to see if anybody else was having this problem and if they are, I figured this would be as good a time as any to complain about both the issues.
Thoughts?

Mine seems to have stayed the same since I got mine around 4-5mbps down and 1-2mbps up. I got mine November 2011. When I go to Minneapolis I get 7-10mbps down and 2-3mbps up. Maybe you are just in a congested area for 4G? More and more 4G phones are getting turned on to the network every day. My brother in law has my old Samsung Focus and his 3G seems faster than my 4G at times lol.

In Madison WI, I always get only around 1-1.5Mbps down and 0.13 Mbps up. Sometime at the same spot if we try with a iPhone we get 2Mbps. I went and asked T&T store, and they said its the load on the network. It might be, since on few occasions I have seen 7Mb down.

Probably nothing, we'd still get our phone bills, Sprint would just be out of debt but not in the position to do anything else as far as expanding their network and service. Possibly a buyout would be likely.
Maybe this is what they need, the reorganizing BK....Shed Nextel and replace the decision makers who've been making all the wrong choices the past 2-3 years. Sometimes I feel like they aren't even trying anymore and they have given up, but on occasion a glimmer of hope comes to surface. I've been with them almost 10 years.... They went from bad, to great, then to mediocre.
C'mon Sprint! Do it for Johnny!

Thanks, but no. I don't want to even entertain the idea of them being bought out by Verizon or AT&T and us losing our unlimited data and decent pricing plans.
Maybe I'm a low end user but the data speeds I encounter are more than adequate for what I need from my phone. I'll hold tight with Sprint and see how the LTE integration plays out.

Sprint can't go bankrupt. If they do they will be bailed out and it won't be by another carrier. In fact there is a federal law that states service will not be terminated due to lack of funding where as needed. Sprint talked about this when it was speculated that Clearwire could go bankrupt

So long, and thanks for all the ROMs!

Sprint has been frustrating me for the last year, with dropped calls, no service, slow data speeds, when I had amazing speeds, and great coverage from May 2007 - Jan 2011. So, I switched to Big Red. I know it costs more, but I'm getting what I pay for.
The Epic 4G Touch is probably the best phone I've ever owned. And I've enjoyed the support it has received from the talented devs. I really hope Sprint gets its act together, and fixes their network, as I know I'm not the only one who has been complaining about Sprint service.
Maybe I'll be back one day. Keep fighting the good fight. I hope Sprint comes through for you.

I left verizon to go to sprint because my wife didn't want to leave. I struggled for almost 2 years w that crap. I left and went back to verizon recently and we are about to get 4g lte here. I couldn't be happier. Once she comes over I will be paying $20 more a month for vastly different service. Sprint would have been nice had they given what they offered. She has the gs2 also and while its a fantastic phone it is poorly represented on sprints terrible network in my area.
You won't be sad to be paying more. No more mad at the world because I can't receive an mms lol.
I did have to pay to get out of my contract (my phone was the only one with remaining time). I read the ETF fee schedule, and I calculated my ETF at $160. I was hoping to get out of my ETF by using the change in the way Sprint discounts the family plans. I missed the deadline by a few days. However, they said my ETF was $90. And, by buying the phones through Amazon, we saved $400. I'll just put my 4G Touch up for sale, as well as the wife's Evo 4G, and I will more than pay for the cost of the phones, as well as the ETF. I will probably be able to pay most of the first month's bill with that, too.

I have E4GT as private phone and iPhone 4S from VZM as a business phone.
I know those are different phones with different hardware/software but I counldn't help to notice that I always have better signal and reception with my E4GT.
In some areas where I don't have reception at all with my iPhone I'm still getting signal on my E4GT.
And I moved to sprint from AT&T 2.5 years ago because in my area AT&T had a worse service/signal ever.
So may be sprint is not a fastest network but so far it was the best for me for area where I leave and where I travel most.

How'd you get them to waive it? My data dips as low as 0.05 mbps on Long Island. It feels like 56k dialup. I don't know how Sprint can legally sell data plans on Long Island. It's soooo bad and it's only getting worse. The tower upgrades did NOTHING.
I really don't want to spend hours on the phone trying to convince 10 different reps to waive the ETF. I'm thinking of just paying the $350 ETF, selling the phone on ebay, and switch to AT&T or Verizon. At least their data works here.
What's the alternative? Keep spending $90/month for a data plan that I can't use? Absolutely ridiculous.

I would go to At&t before Verizon. You know At&t is a union company. If my family didn't work for Sprint that is where i would go. At least you know their employees get treated better.

Sprint Customer Service is about as useful as a football bat!!!

I have just about had it with Sprint's horribly inefficient and poorly capable Customer service representatives. I have been having the issue of no network connectivity.......well excuse me, not no network connectivity, extremely poor connectivity. My speedtest.net speeds are consistantly lower than 10kbps. When I tell this to the customer service people I'm told that the service in my area is showing up green and I should be experiencing the best service that Sprint has to offer. I understand what's going on. I know that it's because of the network visioning upgrades and they're replacing the towers. However, the last thing any customer wants to hear (after paying the $200/month bill (I have multiple lines with Sprint)) is that there's nothing wrong and it's the device's fault. I have been to the store as instructed by the technical support.....nothing's wrong with the phone, it's the network. All I have to say is that Sprint really needs to better train their support staff to not only be more knowledgeable about what's going on but also how to deal with unhappy/unsatisfied customers. I've worked in customer service industries for the majority of my adult life and I know how aggravating it is to deal with unruly customers. But at the end of the day it's their J O B!!!!! If they can't do it then they need to find another line of work.....that's what I did! :victory:
Anyone else have issues with Sprint's customer service?
Sprints cs is actually the best one of the carriers. If you had to deal with Verizon cs, you'd cry.

I will concede to that point. I just recently came from Verizon and their customer service was absolutely unbearable!
The lure of unlimited LTE and the Galaxy SIII was just too much for me to resist so that's why I jumped ship from Big Red. I just wish that I would have been told up front that when they upgrade the network it would result in significant down time. I specifically asked that question when I switched and I was told that I shouldn't experience any hiccup in service.....just the superb service that Sprint customers have come to expect from their service provider........
A football is pretty darn useful in my neck of the woods. Get out more.

HAHA, well I figured that a football bat could serve some purpose......just like customer service.......but only sometimes, on very special occasions, like every other Tuesday but only on leap years! :silly:
Its hit and miss. One out of 3 try's and you get someone who speaks English well enough to understand. But the fact is, who of any company's have good customer service? I had a number to Sprint that got me to someone very nice and smart that spoke clear every time. AAA+ CS. Its was like a back door number. The phone would ring once and there they where. That number doesn't work anymore but it was so nice! 877-775-4886. If anyone has the replacement number to it, PM me please!!
I dunno, I've had to call them 4 times since I started using Sprint just short of 2 years ago. First time was because of an order screw up, which was actually my fault. Wanted to return the stuff. The csv rep sent me to a store, the store told me they didn't take returns and to mail it all back. Called them again, and the rep I talked to said the store was clueless, then overnighted a box to me to mail the returns back. 1 FAIL, 1 WIN.
Then last month I had to activate 2 S3s, each seperately. First rep was awesome, friendly, knew exactly what she was doing. Then I called again that night, and got some middle aged woman who managed to help me without issue.
In comparison, I have to call Comcast countless times because the cable stops working, boxes break down, internet goes AWOL, etc. I once had service reps at my house all day long several days in a row because they couldn't fix an issue with the internet.
My Playstation 3 died from a YLOD (overheating) despite being in the open. Sony rep told me they didn't care, but if I wanted it fixed I could send it to them and pay them to fix it. Nevermind the fact Microsoft has fixed my 360 several times without asking questions. Only issue I had with Microsoft was they once charged my credit card $10 for a subscription I had canceled, and they refused to refund me. Also gotten plenty of freebies from Microsoft.
So by comparison... Sprint is pretty decent imo. But like all customer service, it's the luck of the draw. It's a job. Some people take it seriously, others cringe when they have to answer a call.
i am in VA beach and we are getting the network vision updates now as well as LTE next month (if they dont delay it) and i get ~1.82 mbps (average; also using speedtest.net app) and my fastest was 2.04 mbps
EDIT: of course on 3G and those are my download speeds

Just a heads up, be prepared for your service to go straight in the toilet. If you experience ANY issues at all, make sure that you contact Sprint and get them to note that you're having issues. This way you can get your account adjusted appropriately once the complete upgrade is done and the service has been restored.
Football bat. Now that had me laughing on the crapper.

Eli could have used one against the Bucs at the end.

Losing my current mobile sales job, interviewing with (ugh) Sprint

I've been the lead mobile consultant at this dumpy Staples of mine for a little while now. Yesterday we found out as they are failing horribly in the mobile phone business, that the position would be eliminated in a few weeks. I have some contacts at most of the big guys as we sell ATT, T-Mobile and VZW here. But the first person to respond to an application of mine was Sprint.....
I always thought a pay check is a pay check, but as soon as I heard this I had flashes of customers *****ing about their lack of LTE, their incredibly slow data speeds, poor signals etc etc
I can honestly say I've never called or stopped into a Sprint store to compliment them.
As everyone here knows Sprint fairly well, what do you guys think?
My input for what it's worth (never had any experience of sprint).......
If you like the products and you know you'll have a good rapport with your customers, I'd say go for it.....
But I've been here on XDA for long enough to know that sprint isn't exactly overflowing with happy customers....Lol
Having been in a similar situation (where neither I nor the customers were happy with the product or service) I speak from experience when I say that job satisfaction (for me) was scarce.....in the end, I started hating the company I was working for.....hating the fact that I had to get up every morning to go to that 'hell hole'.........
That is a situation that I'd NOT wish on anyone......if your gut instinct is telling you NO, it'd be best to listen......
Back to 10.1 for now.....

Well, as you say, a paycheck is a paycheck. My opinion is take the job, if you get a better offer later, take that. Especially if you have a family to support (don't know if you do) it's better to be in a job you don't love while looking for better opportunities than to not have money to pay the bills. I don't feel that employers are particularly loyal anymore, so I am not particularly loyal to them. I certainly don't steal or do anything of the sort, but if there is a better opportunity out there, I look into it. Always. My boss knows that I interview with other companies so I keep it transparent, but you have to do what's best for you and yours in this job market.
In regards to your particular situation, I personally have never complained to Sprint, but my understanding is that all cell phone companies have notoriously bad customer satisfaction ratings, so you will get angry customers regardless. It's just part of the customer service industry today. If it's not the poor data speeds and lack of coverage from Sprint, it will be really high bills from Verizon and AT&T, or the fact that T-Mobile throttles data speeds, etc... You get the idea.
Good luck in your job search and please let us know where you land.

Thanks guys. While I do not currently have a family to support, I am engaged and that was the next inevitable step we have been leaning towards. I have a few weeks of wiggle room here as my last day at the current position isn't until Sept. 22nd. That being said I have no intention (if at all possible) of going on unemployment. So if Sprint is the only call back I get, I suppose I can't pass it up.
Until now, I hadn't realized the benefit of selling 3 of the 4 carriers at once. If someone came in griping about 1 I could easily sell them on another.
I'll post up where I end up eventually.
[side note] I actually took away more information regarding Staples mobile business moves frmo a Geek.com article published yesterday just prior to getting called into my bosses office. Oh the internet. What can't you do....
I love Sprint, I get 4G LTE everywhere I go.
I live in Orlando,FL and I never had a problem, Not one dropped call since I signed a 2 year contract a couple months ago.

Consider yourself lucky. Central NJ I get a low end 3G. (600 Kbs right now) During off-peak hours I pull down 1.4 mbs if I am lucky.
The Sprint interview went well and I was offered a position but I got a call back from AT&T shortly after, interviewed with them and accepted a job there. The pay, and benefits were much better with ATT and in the end, that's all that mattered.
I start October 1st and should have my company phone not long after that. LG G2 anyone?
Congrats!

Thanks guys. I briefly considered the Moto X, but the G2 looks too sweet. I still have roughly a year left on my Sprint contract though so at that point I would have both the LG OG and LG G2. I feel like even if not on purpose, that would be a little of a douche move. "excuse me, can you hold my original Optimus G, I to have to answer my Optimus G2."
