ok...been all over the forums on this issue and not finding a real answer anywhere.
Used zedomax's kernel v2 and Odin to root my Epic4GT. Did that fine. But 3g stops working intermittently. Thought at first it was the kernel, but I've read it's not, but that it's Sprint. OK. Meanwhile, I can't get into backup mode with CWM. Not with Rom Manager or manually. I get this error message: whole-file signature not verified. Install aborted. I can't find a sensible answer to this anywhere! So I was gonna unroot and redo with zedomaxx's v3 root. However>>>NOW I can not get into download mode!!?? What do I do now??
Grab a jig off eBay or amazon. Plug it in and boom!

Really?? your reply makes no sense and is in no way explanatory. What is a "jig" and what do you propose I do with it. Thanks for nothing

Google is your friend OP. Maybe if you'd take the time to cruise the forums and learn about your device, you wouldn't have to start a thread and ask a question that has a half dozen threads dedicated to it already! How hard is it to Google "epic touch 4g jig"? Instead you had to write a nasty reply that assures no one will want to help you. Enjoy the freebie cus I'm done with you and your attitude!
@poppygt
If you read my post...I have gone thru all the forums trying to find a solution. But either the answers are just as obscure as yours or else they're so technical that I can't follow it. There has not been one clear answer yet. I spent 6 hours on Friday morning alone looking for the reason and solution. I can't go any further in flashing out of stock rom to anything else until I can do a backup.
I need help.
So are you saying you can't boot into recovery? Look for my thread in Q&A for a thread I started about not being able to boot into Clockwork. XDA member Playya linked me to a thread to flash Clockwork recovery via ODIN. After I did that I was able to get into recovery and make my backup. Hope that helps. I'll check back in a bit.

Pulled Root with Zedo's pulled.tar, the did the EG30 stock recovery. Then redid root with Zedomax's V3.tar. Only this time I pulled my SD card first. I don't know if that is what did it, but...it WORKED! I now have CWM working! Now my only problem is WiFi seems to be broken. Any ideas on that?

I believe that there was a wifi fix in Caulkins ROM thread but make sure you read before you flash it. I'll dig and see if I can find it.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Also when you say your wifi is broken what do you mean? If it's disconnecting from your network go to Settings, WIFI, tap on menu hen advanced and set wifi sleep policy to NEVER.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
The wifi is in a constant "scanning/connecting/disconnecting" loop. won't really connect at all. The Kernel version says "GINGERBREAD.EG30". but if i flashed Zedomax's v3.tar shouldn't have that there? Could that be the issue?
Thanks

Ok so after a few unsucesfull attempts to root with one click. I tried the gingerbreak no pc method. Root went fine it seemed and I have super user and root access. Ok so I installed rom manager and tried to flash clockwork 2.5.1.0 so I go to rom manager, choose flash rom, go to clockmod 2.5.1.0.zip hit ok and all that eventually it reboots into clockwork. But the only options are: reboot, flash update.zip, factory reset, and clear partition. So I chose the update zip one. It failed said it couldn't find updaten.zip so I tried that a few times no luck reboted and tried again..no luck so I went through 3 b utton push thing on a reset and clockwork doesn't open. I have to go through rom manager and when I do those are the only 3 options. Also when in clockwork. The camera button is not the ok/enter button as it should be I have to hit the home key for ok. So I tried to flash the fix for 5the home screen. Same issues. Where di I go wrong? How do I get going again? The phone works fine, wifi teather is working now. Just can't seem to get clockwork working or flash anything

Okay, a few things first:
1. Narrow down your problem, your description is far from clear and concise
2. If you're having problems with ClockWorkMod, search their threads for your answers, or post your question there
3. Why are you using Gingerbreak? That's for, Gingerbread. You shouldn't be messing with a leaked and buggy Rom if you don't know what you're doing.
My suggestion is to go to the Clockworkmod thread. Check out version 3 in my signature. All your problems are likely answered there. But I can't answer them for you, regardless, because you neglected to mention why you resorted to this frazzled method. If you want to pursue this method, you'll have to go back to the forum you got it from for your answers, but I recommend starting over.
GOOGLE any question you have with "XDA" in the search bar and I promise that your question has already been answered.
Well I tried to do one click 4 times and could never root. I fund this gingerbreak method in the samsung epic 4g dev area. I ran it and I have root. I had no other idea what to do at the time to gain root. I have rea through the clockwork area but none of the help answerd seemed to have the same issues as me. Sorry. Ill keep reading. The reason the One Click didn't work is because you didn't turn off your AV and it kept deleting the single most important part of it.

A couple dumb questions:
1. Is your computer detecting your phone?
You may have a cable problem.
2. Is your phone properly recognized?
You likely haven't installed the drivers listed on the OneClick page for 32 bit and 64 bit computers.
3. Have you attempted to Odin back to stock?
In the first line of my signature you will see a link to Syndicate Rom Frozen and CWM Odin. Download that rom to your phone. Then follow the other link and download the EB13 pre-rooted with CWM 3.0.0.6. Odin the necessary files as the page tells you to, then boot into CWM, and flash Syndicate Rom Frozen. Follow all directions where applicable. When your phone is happy, shutdown properly. Three finger boot into CWM. Backup your phone, and then RESTORE that backup immediately. Journaling will be on. You will be happy. Any future problems from there will have been answered in the Syndicate thread.
Edit: I see k0nane beat me to the punch! I still recommend following the directions as I laid out above, this should be an easier fool-proof process for you. Otherwise, I yield to k0nane's expertise.
Don't use ROM manager. It is very buggy with the Epic.

Very true, but the directions for Gingerbreak actually told him to use it for this computer-less root method.
Thanks for all the help so far. So what's better than rom manager?
Is there a way to just install clockwork right now? I am not wanting a custom rom or anything else. The only reason I am rooting at all is to fix the lock screen date.
If I could just install clockwork from where I am at now that would be helpfull.
Id like to keep all my settings and apps n such just as they are I finaly have this thing kinda doing what I want I really don't wana mess with it too much more.
Thanks for all the help so far.
My biggest issue with rooting so far has been my lack of access to a computer that I can use to do the roting. I get pc access but getting access to one I can download to doesn't happen often
Thanks again

I have the same issue, I actually downloaded CWM, Roms, and everything to my phone and then loaded them to my work computer. Use dolphin mini if the default browser gives you issues downloading.
Syndicate has a flash-able fix for the date, is that what you want to apply? I just put it on for the hell of it, but I have to tell you, after May, you won't see a problem with any other month. If that's your only reason for rooting, you may just want to stick it out for this month, just saying.
Yeah that's really the only reason I'm rooting.
Thanks for all the help!

I have a problem, that I cannot find nor figure out the solution, I hope there is someone here that can help. I have used and have flashed with Odin many many times and have never had a problem.
Problem:
I am running a BeastMod 5.0, and before that I was running a ICS ROM...can't remember which one. I wanted to make sure I had everything ready for when the Official ICS dropped. Went to flash the stock which is posted here, got all the way (in Odin) to the Modem cache.img.ext4 part and that is where it hangs. I actually left it overnight just to make sure, and was still stuck on that part of the flash. It keeps rebooting to the Kies download page and only way to fix is to Odin Flash clockwork recovery. I have tried the super wipe, cache wipe, and every other tool I can find, but it still always get stuck at the part listed above.
Hopefully someone else has had the same problem and been able to fix. All help is greatly appreciated.

Try reflashing the recovery. Once in recovery, reflash the ROM. That is what I had to do. Hope it helps. Also, make sure and upload the ROM to your SD Card...the superwipe doesn't touch the SD Card.

Hi I am running FH13 stock rooted with Agat recovery installed using autoroot. I'd like to update to a newer version of CWM but keep the stock FH13 (at least for now). How can I do this? I don't see any options for updating other than Rom manager which I've been told we shouldn't use for this phone.
FYI I have mOdin and currently no external SD card which is why I want an updated version of CWM. The one I currently have doesn't recognize internal SD.
Haven't used it in a while but I'm pretty certain that Agat's recovery can access internal memory. What are you trying to do in recovery? And what is or isn't happening?
DON'T USE ROM MANAGER!
Well unless you wish to make a pretty fishing lure out of you nice phone.
Ok that said AGAIN, grab Agat's 5.4 kernel (download and check md5sum!) and use Mobile Odin to flash the kernel.

[KERNELS][CWM][ODIN] Kernel Repository - Download Them All Here
Or here. Agat is up to v 0.6.0 now. You can still get 5.4 from this thread.
[UPDATE][KERNEL][SOURCE] FI27 AGAT_v0.6.0 with tREC_v0.2.2 10/10/12
Also, if you know the Dev and can find a post from them, you can also go into their profile and find all of their threads. FYI.
Find what?
Mobile Odin?
That can be found in here in XDA via search. There is a 'free' XDA members version. Take some time and search and you will find it.
You need to install the application and the associated kernel addonfor our phone, SPH-D710, in post 3 or 4 I think.
OR you could support the developer and grab that from the Playstore. The Pro version has a few other nice things added.
Agat's kernels can be found here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1767421 for you build choose the 5.4
Good luck. But please spend some time reading through the stickies and how to's or you may end up with an expensive paperweight. If you really spend some time searching for your answers you will learn a great deal.
Have fun.

I just hoped I'd inspire this guy to do some searching and learn. I've learned more from searching reading and doing than being hand fed. As I'm sure most here have too. While I usually go by the adage "there is no dumb question" it's also true that if you arent' willing to look for the answer before you ask, you've negated that and shown a 'just give me what I want/need' attitude.
This bloke may not be that guy but over the last year I keep seeing the same, literally same, questions asked that are answered right here in these forums.

Ok.
Open mobile Odin.
Select Kernel.
Browser to where ever you have it (Interneal SD or External SD)
Select the tar (you need .tar file for Mobile Odin http://d-h.st/rSA )
Then scroll down towards bottom in Mobile Odin and 'Flash Firmware'.
The device will then reboot and install the Kernel/recovery.
To check that you have the new kernel. Settings>About Phone> then look at kernel version
To enter recovery mode method 1:
Power off phone completely
Hold Power Button + Volume Up till you see the first Galaxy screen and let go. You will then be taken to the custom recovery (CWM)
Method 2:
Download QuickBoot from the market and use it to select 'Recovery' and it will reboot to recovery.
There is a big bone. You're welcom.

Glad you got it working. The issue of locking up at boot screen with Mobile Odin usually happens when you get a bad download. I always check the md5sum on the PC AND the phone before I flash anything. In the past though I may have had one or two things that Mobile Odin borked on, but that is why, as you found out, having a PC and the One-clicks (or Odin) available are prudent.
Just got my gs3 today and decided to root using this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746682
Not really so tech-savy with this yet and after the whole root process of odin3 i reboot into recovery, wipe/cache/dalvik then flash the new miui 2.10.19 http://miuiandroid.com/community/threads/2-10-19.18540/ one i hit flash it says installation failed blah blah blah (status 7) getprop. Yeah all that junk, so i searched up on the forums and the only solution i find is to update cwm and i have, to 6.0.1.4 and still same thing!! installation error, aborted. Looking on the forums someone posted a link to download an updated 6.0.1.4 so I tried that since 6.0.1.2 wasnt working. There's gotta be something simple to fix that I dont know about, ive flashed and rooted my htc sensation and mytouch4g easy and never had installation failure when flashing. Can someone walk me through what exactly I need to be fully rooted and flash a rom!?
How could cwm not be working if its updated to latest version? I dont think im downloading the wrong rom and its not a bad link. Even tried dragging it onto my internal sd wirh debugging off. Btw I have the 32 gb s3 with does not have an external sd.
The way I fix that was I rerootes my phone into latest clockwork recovery. I didn't remove the root I just rerootee it. Look for cwr 6 I think.

From watching the video given for the toolkit, when in odin and have to open up pda then go to the toolkit files and then root all my files are in winRAR type and his are in tar archive type. Does that matter at all? And also when clicking on the pda then root you chose the file /boot-insecure-tmo-t99uvalem-cwm but when in odin and clicking this file on the little winrar icon to the left of the file name its the only one with a little like key lock, doesnt know if thats an issue or anything just something i noticed because when accessing the toolkit files on my c drive and going to the root folder, the key icon is no longer there.. Any ideas??
Reading about people flashing a kernal in recovery then flashing the rom and working but when you flash a rom isnt it flashing the kernal it comes with also? Or is this the problem
Well, I re ran the toolkit, re did the root and odin process same as i did the first time, downloaded rom straight from my phone flashed again still getting status 7 error/ installation aborted -______- ugh...

Look at my signature for the proper CWM. I don't know where you saw 6.0.1.4 for our device, but the main thread and the developers website show no sign of it. And download CM10 from get.cm, d2tmo. If you that doesn't work, you don't have a SGH-T999.
I can't believe I didn't see this before....what is the exact file name of the rom you are flashing?
I looked and did not see our phone listed in the op. Looks like the international one is there (codename m0?). But no d2tmo, d2att, etc.
Unless I just missed it there, you do not want to even try flashing that anymore! If I'm right you just got very lucky dude!

I thought you were trying to flash miui...
Glad you got it sorted out.
Just for the future though, never flash anything not built for the TMobile SGH-T999 (codename d2tmo). If you do flash an international GS3 rom it will brick your device. I think this woulda happened had the miui rom from the link in op actually flashed.

Look at my signature for the proper CWM. I don't know where you saw 6.0.1.4 for our device, but the main thread and the developers website show no sign of it. And download CM10 from get.cm, d2tmo. If you that doesn't work, you don't have a SGH-T999.

I was at first but then changed my mind, both werent working before hand though when i was getting the errors.
And im using hellfire and the rom is super smooth like butter. I have one problem though, its notifications. Whenever receiving texts i dont get a vibration or light pulse. Sometimes randomly i get a vibration. Anyone know how to fix?
Something has gone horribly wrong... I was running rooted/stock using the Team Epic procedure for several months now without a problem. I attempted to return to stock tonight using the method posted here:
http://www.epiccm.org/2012/06/sprint-sgs3-stock-restore.html
Something has gone horribly wrong. I get the Samsung splash screens but then it goes to a pulsing blue to purple LED and that's it.
I can get it into download mode and bring up CWM to select the ROM, but that's it.
I'm in over my head here, big-time I thought I had it figured out, but apparently not.... Help!!
Thanks, gang!
if you can get into recovery mode this is the best i can think of to do, is go to this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1904099 and download the one for your size phone then copy it onto a sd card, put it in your phone and enter recovery mode and flash it. youll be back to factory.
I've never hosed my phone, but if u can get into clockworkmod recovery, ur good. Did u make a nandroid after u rooted?

Thanks for that... Downloading now. We'll see how it goes here in about 25 more minutes (ugh!) Here's hoping it works so I can get some sleep tonight! Yikes!

I'm still a HUGE rookie... what's a nandroid? (and if I have to ask, I'm sure I didn't...) It wasn't in the instructions from the Team Epic guys...
I have been using Titanium Backup Pro for Root to do backups every few days to DropBox... I'm hoping that will prove to be useful here... If I can get it working again.... Download time is up to 32 minutes now... Nuts!
nandroid is a whole phone backup that you do in recovery.how your phone is, is what the back up will be. and yeah that download time is carzy but sometimes it will speed up.
tb is only app backups really, so after you get your phone running like a champ again, you run tb and re install your apps and their data.
hope it works out for you thou

OK, so once this is finished downloading, what comes next? I'm still a little confused on the whole 'odexed/dedexed' thing... I'm assuming I need to load it onto the SD card (which I can do), plug that into the phone, and then select it from CWM? Or do I need to go back to the stock recovery first using Odin?
Post to let all know how u made out with the download. If u still need help, ur at the right place.

Don't worry about odexed or deodexed right now, after you flash that, you will be back at stock as if you just walked out the store with your phone, factory, then you can start all over,,, that rom/file will make your phone stock.

So far, no luck... It appears that the download aborted after I went to bed. The file was supposed to be 806Mb, but came in at 432Mb. If I try to load it onto the phone, it says, "Can't open /external...(long file name)....zip (bad). Installation aborted.
I also downloaded the MD4 file last night, and that appears to have been successful. It seems to be working properly for the moment. It's mounting the partition which is a good start.

ETA: Looking good.... Got the Sprint splash screen, and now the 'Android is Upgrading, Optimizing app XX of XXX'....
Aaaand, we're live people!! Success! MD4 is up and running, and there doesn't seem to have been ANY loss of data.... It didn't exactly return it to stock either as all my data is all still there, but it does appear to have removed SuperUser, which would mean I'm no longer rooted, correct? It also appears to have gone back to the stock recovery. So to re-root, does the 'Team Epic Root from Recovery' method I used before still work? (i.e. use Odin to install custom recovery, then flash the Team Epic Root from Recovery .zip file)
THanks a million, gang! At least I have a working phone again, with apparently no loss of data at the moment. It'll be nice to have my Root back eventually, so Tasker can do its thing, but for now, it's more than a paperweight!

If I understand correctly, I can still use the same Team Epic Root from Recovery file to install the CWM recovery regardless of which version (MB1 or MD4) I have on my phone, right? Or is there a different tar file I need to use to root the MD4 version?
Sorry for the dumb questions... Very new to this stuff still...
just use the same method you did the first time you rooted and youll be good to go.
soory for the late response but yea, I believe montecarlo's right. Sounds like u used skunk ape's guide for rooting? If so should b no problem. If u used a toolbox, it may/may not have the md4 update?

Got it now. Rooted in just a few minutes... Easy-peasy! Just used Odin like I did the first time.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I can just leave the 'return to stock' ROM on the SD card, and if I need to head to the Sprint store for some reason, I can just boot into recovery, select that one, and presto! returned to stock, right?
Thanks again for all the help with the rookie mistakes! You guys rock!!
