I just need a link or some information on how to install cyanogenmod 9 from EL29, I'm currently running Calkulin's EL29 v3.0, and then I was wondering how do I come back from ICS without bricking?
I'd appreciate the response so i don't screw up my wonderful new phone! ^^

To go back to GB just flash the EL26 kernel with CWM through Odin. When rebooting hold power + volume up until it boots into recovery and flash from there.

FYI - OP on the CM9 page for the rom the very first post has it notated that for the CM9 install guide which is the link that has been posted above. I commend you on being careful but just so you know this forum has more than enough info in it to ensure you do everything correct and minimize your chances of bricking..

I've heard to odin just the el26 kernel + cwm and also the whole el26 rom before flashing ICS, more specifically the AOsP variations so which is it? Or which is safer? It would kind of make sense to Odin the whole rom to restore a gb nandroid. There's just so many conflicting methods its cornfuzzling

No not really conflicting if you look at them slowly. Its basically get back to a GB kernel at the end of the day. They say to odin it since you do not want to or have any other way to get a GB kernel on your phone if you are on ICS. Now you could flash from ICS but that is what people are trying to avoid since it could cause a brick.
Basically: When on ICS
1. Odin a GB CWM recovery(now others have used EL29 and Rogue recoveries as well) I personally use a stock CWM recovery from CM7 and Miui
2. From there you can wipe and flash and do nandroids as normal.
Option: Safest bet
1. One Click Odin your choice of any of the GB stock roms by sfhub
I have used both methods so far with no problems. I had CM9 on my phone then used odin to go back to the recovery used with CM7 and then I nandroid back my UnNamed Rom. I did this a few times without issue. I have never heard of any issues with anyone using any of the above two methods I mentioned. If someone has please inform us

I was more confused about whether to Odin(mobileodin) just the kernel + cwm or the entire rom, all the install instructions say Odin kernel with cwm(usually el26) which is what I'm using for ics, I use rogue gunslinger for GB, but then I've seen ppl say to Odin the entire rom before restoring/upgrading/changing roms so i was like
Wtf which is it do I Odin the kernel or the whole rom when i upgrade :-| I've been trying to figure that out for a cpl days b4 I upgrade my AOKP to build 31, cuz I really don't want a paperweight

I've searched around and I don't know how to just odin a kernel, so I use sfhubs one-click back to el26 then I use autoroot to install el26 +cwm.
I would like to just odin a kernel and flash from there, but i am unsure of the procedure, do you do this:
phone to download mode and connect to odin, use PDA slot and browse to kernel, hit start or GO or whatever it is, then when it starts to reboot, pwr+vlm up to get into recovery, then get my flash on from there?
I use mobile Odin for the kernel alone but I believe in PC Odin you can just select PDA and choose the kernel. Tar and flash it that way then when it starts to reboot either catch the volume up + power on the splash screen or do like I do and snatch the battery real quick and the boot to recovery, everytime I try to hit it while its rebooting Im too slow

I havent used mobile odin, but I hear nothing but good things, so I think I am gonna grab it and try it out. That way I wont need to be at a PC to get my flash on.
With mobile odin, do I keep the kernel on my sdcard, same place I put roms and such? And when using mobile odin, if the file is *.tar.md5, do I remove the .md5 from the file name first? Do I use the flash firmware option?
I've done this at least 25 times recently; so easy, I'll post instructions here again.
1. get Mobile Odin(time saver to the max)
2. Get EL26 kernel (TAR version)
3. flash EL26 kernel in Mobile Odin (takes 10 seconds)
4. Boot into recovery(you will have the proper one now!)
5. Flash away
if you do this either coming from A GB rom to ICS, or going back to one, Guaranteed success...
Simple as can be; not sure why this keeps getting asked.....
The kernel is 8.1 mb, which exceeds the attachment size, so I can't post it here, but its all over this forum..

Yea u can keep em in a folder on internal SD that's what I do and just open the location it will find all tar files in that location then just select and follow directions, mOdin works really good its quick and no flash counter in crease or yellow triangle. Its alot easier to flash ics than having to go to the PC cuz u can just Odin el26+cwm kernel boot to recovery and get ur flash on without all the hassle of drivers and connecting a USB etc

My question was for when going back to gb from ics if I needed to Odin the whole rom, I had seen both kernel+cwm only and whole rom and just wanted to make sure if I just flashed the kernel only I'd be OK more for clarification than an actual how to for me since I know how to Odin both, just wanted to make sure I was odining the right things b4 I jumped and landed on a brick after I had seen someone say to Odin the whole rom I wanted to be sure I was doing it right since I had seen both ways mentioned. Its a little more confusing than my damn evo where I'm always on the same recovery no matter what, and a bit scary with the bricks flying around like a construction site filled with monkeys on meth

Quick question.. I can flash EL26 kernel again in mobile odin and should be able to restore my Blazer backup without any issues, correct? Blazer was backed up using Rogue EL29 kernel. Thanks!
Plus there's 5 android devices in my house all with different flashing methods it gets confusing keeping em all straight, got the evo4g, et4g, kindle fire, MoPho, and a gNote the et4g is the first Sammy I've used with Odin, my first android was an intercrap I mean intercept and it used the patched swupdater instead of Odin, so I'm still getting the hang of this method. I can flash the evo, kindle, intercept and photon blindfolded and drunker than a slut on prom night

i'm making this thread simply to make it easier to find for noobs that don't know how to use the search function or advanced search functions. let this thread die if you dont want to see it anymore. it's only here so that stock el26 with cwm can be found more easily using the search/advanced search button.
Stock EL26 kernel with CWM Recovery download link: http://www.mediafire.com/?hkydca9ob98z89m
For AOSP users:
-Flash EL26 stock CWM kernel via the PDA option in ODIN; or use MobileOdin
-When phone begins rebooting, Hold Power + Volume up until boots into recovery.
-Wipe data/factory, cache and dalvik cache
-Flash ROM (flash twice in a row if the first flash takes less than 15 seconds)
-Flash Gapps
-Reboot
Some reports state that it may need a second flash of the rom to get it to boot. So if your initial rom flash is really quick, flash the rom a second time, right after the initial flash.
Thank you so much. I've been trying to track this down this morning so I can flash using Hemidall on my Mac. All of the other guides I've seen use ODIN and Windows and make it difficult trying to just find the kernel file I need to flash with.
I'm now running CM9 Alpha 3 without issue.

you quoted a post that is almost an entire year old. the intention of this thread was clearly stated: simply to make it easier to find (hence this thread being resurrected). common sense dictates that i'm not trying to claim rights to or steal anything. also, in the entire year that this thread has existed, nobody cared about me not "giving props" or me reposting a link that at the time was a little difficult to find given the frequency of new threads created asking for said links. you should stick to just smoking since you lack the insight, context, and reasoning for this thread's creation and are therefore unable to contribute anything of value.
mods, please lock this thread. it is outdated and there's really no reason for it to be open for discussion any longer.

So, lately I've been noticing a lot of DEVs saying "Flash EL26 kernel through ODIN, then proceed to recovery to finish the rest of your flashing".
This holds true, correct? Any other ICS kernel is going to cause the eMMC lock-up issue, if you wipe or do a delete on a massive scale?
Click to collapse
True.
So, what's this eMMC chip everyone is talking about?
Click to collapse
The eMMC chip is basically what controls your Internal Data Partition. Anything to do with writing (or for this case, deleting) data from your internal partition is going to involve this chip!
Why is the eMMC chip messing up?
Click to collapse
In a basic explanation, the eMMC chip doesn't mesh with ICS kernels as perfectly as GB kernels do. There were some issues with the firmware inside of the eMMC chip, and the ICS kernel would trigger it to (in a sense) meltdown if a partition wipe script was initiated. There may be a way to fix the firmware, but as of today, we are unaware of it and are awaiting the answers.
_____________________________________________
So, until the eMMC bug has a permanent fix, I'm going to make a comprehensive guide to flashing new ROMs, backing up, restoring, and any other helpful tips.
My goal is simple: Collected, organized, informative, and clean.
Disclaimer: Don't blame me when you do this incorrectly. I will laugh. You knew what you were getting into when you first rooted, my friend.
If any of my information is wrong, please PM me and I will correct it ASAP. Even spelling errors..
CREDIT GOES TO:

Tell me of others I'm missing.
Read all steps and make preparations BEFORE starting this tutorial! You better be prepared before undertaking these processes!!
_____________________________________________
Guide Part I: Flashing new ROMs.
For users who already have an ICS kernel on their phone. Or for those who don't know, and want to be safe!
It's really basic. Because of the bug in the ICS kernel recoveries that crash the eMMC chip during Wipe Data scripts, you must use the EL26 kernel, and flash it from ODIN before making any changes.
Make sure you READ these instructions BEFORE starting, and prepare accordingly!
(files also attached at the bottom of this thread, extract the .md5 kernel from the .zip first before using it in ODIN.)
First, flash the EL26 Kernel + Recovery through ODIN.
Step 1: Download the EL26 kernel, ODIN, and install AND setup completely KIES, to make sure the drivers are there and ready!
Step 2: Once ready, put the phone into Download Mode by holding down the VOL DOWN + POWER buttons, until you see a Warning!! screen with a triangle at the bottom. Press VOL UP to continue into Download Mode.
Step 3: Plug the device into your Windows PC and wait for the drivers to say they're full installed, then open ODIN.
Step 4: Wait for ODIN to show a yellow, lit up bar with "0:[COM?]" under the "ID:COM" section.
Step 5: Once ODIN is ready, go to the PDA box and browse for the StockCWM-EL26.tar.md5 file you downloaded earlier. DO NOT CHECK ANY OTHER BOXES. Messing around with settings in ODIN will get you into trouble.
Step 6: Press "Start", and wait for it to finish its thing. WATCH YOUR PHONE, and be ready to go into Recovery Mode.
Step 7: Don't allow your phone to boot! Hold down VOL UP + POWER as soon as your screen shows the Samsung Galaxy S II splash screen, until you see the blue CWM screen. (should be ver. 5.0.2.7, if I'm not mistaken.) (You may notice the yellow triangle, we'll get to removing that later!)
We are now in EL26 Recovery, where you can wipe till your heart bursts with joy.
But, you might wonder.. Why are we using a GB recovery for flashing an ICS ROM?
After you flash the ROM in this recovery, it will flash an ICS recovery over it, so that after you reboot, you'll have your ICS recovery and kernel. We only need the EL26 recovery to do the in-between work..
Now, onto flashing your new ROM! This one's easy..
Step 8: Wipe data/factory reset by using the option on the main screen of recovery, Wipe cache using the option a few clicks below it, and Wipe Dalvik cache using the option from the Advanced menu.
Step 9: Once you've wiped those listed, prepare to flash your ROM. If you haven't downloaded the ROM to your SD card yet, now would be a good time. Either remove your SD card and load the ROM onto it from your PC, or back up and go to "Mounts and Storage", then mount your SD card and load it through your USB connection that way.
Step 10: Go to "Install from zip file" and go through the needed directories to locating and selecting your ROM.
Step 11: Flash your ROM, like usual. (Also flash GAPPS, or any other after ROM installation zips at this time, if that's when they're supposed to be done normally.)
Now, once you click reboot, EL26 RECOVERY WILL NO LONGER EXIST ON YOUR PHONE. Once again.. DO NOT PLAN ON WIPING DATA AGAIN, WITHOUT A FIXED KERNEL AND RECOVERY. Once rebooted, the affected ICS kernel and recovery (the one that came in your ROM .zip that you flashed while using the EL26 temp kernel) will be back into place. Doing any sort of hard reset, data wipes, LARGE FILE DELETES, or factory resets MAY result in a bricked phone. Please, be careful!
Step 12: Reboot and enjoy your new ICS ROM!
CONGRATS! You got to dry land safely. You should now be in your new ROM, with no crashes to the eMMC chip! If you're not.. Well, you didn't listen.
Now, about that Yellow triangle during boot.. Check the end of the post.
_____________________________________________
Guide Part II: Backing up your existing ICS ROM.
Just like flashing a new ROM, we're going to need the EL26 kernel and recovery to do this. Once the backing up has taken place, we'll need to restore your old kernel. I'll show you how.
Step 1: Go here and download a kernel that corresponds to the CURRENT ROM that you're going to be backing up. The choices are AOSP/AOKP, CM9, or TOUCHWIZ, mainly. Make sure that you find the kernel that is associated with your current ROM (ex: FE21, FE16, FE14, and so on..), because we will be wiping that kernel away, and will need to restore it again later. Check for current kernel version in System > About Phone > Kernel Version.
Step 2: Once you've downloaded your corresponding kernel, put the phone into Download Mode by holding down the VOL DOWN + POWER buttons, until you see a Warning!! screen with a triangle at the bottom.
Do not mix the kernels up! EL26 is for before backup, and the kernel you downloaded that matches your currect ROM is for after the backup process. OKAY? DO NOT CHECK ANY OTHER BOXES. Messing around with settings in ODIN will get you into trouble.
Step 6: Press "Start", and wait for it to finish its thing. WATCH YOUR PHONE, and be ready to go into Recovery Mode.
Step 7: Don't allow your phone to boot! Hold down VOL UP + POWER as soon as your screen shows the Samsung Galaxy S II splash screen, until you see the blue CWM screen.
Now, you're in EL26 recovery. Let's backup your old ROM, then flash the new kernel!
Step 8: Proceed to the backup and restore options, then backup as you normally would.
Note: Make SURE that you understand that this backup is going to contain the EL26 kernel. This kernel WILL NOT WORK with ICS ROMs. Just because we are using it during recovery, doesn't mean it's friendly with ICS. If you ever wish to restore this backup, you'll need the kernel that matches it. I suggest renaming it afterwards with a clear and distinctive name, and placing the kernel inside the backup folder with the backup itself, to avoid confusions.
Step 9: After you've finished the backup, Wipe cache and Wipe dalvik cache, using the main menu of recovery and the advanced menu, respectfully. Don't skip this step!
Step 10: Now, you'll need to flash the kernel that you overwrote when you flashed EL26 with ODIN at the beginning. You can do this with the EL26 recovery. Go to "Flash a zip file" and find the kernel that you downloaded from this page, then flash it. If you haven't placed this file onto your SD card yet, please do so by either removing the SD card and using your PC to load it on, or use the "Mounts and Storage > Mount USB" option, then load it through your USB connection.
Step 11: Once the kernel that matches your existing ROM has been flashed, you can safely reboot and your phone should start up as normal. It will take longer this time, since you've flashed a new kernel, so be patient and don't fret.
You now have successfully backed up your current ROM! Like I said earlier, "Make SURE that you understand that this backup is going to contain the EL26 kernel. This kernel WILL NOT WORK with ICS ROMs. Just because we are using it during recovery, doesn't mean it's friendly with ICS. If you ever wish to restore this backup, you'll need the kernel that matches it. I suggest renaming it afterwards with a clear and distinctive name, and placing the kernel inside the backup folder with the backup itself, to avoid confusions."
I cannot stress this enough. If you're going to use this process to backup, you need to make sure you label your backup with details of what kernel it needs, since you've backup your ROM with an EL26 kernel that's not usable with this ICS ROM. Either place the kernel it needs in the same folder as this backup, or rename it with specifications. (ex: 5.24.2012.NEEDS.FE16.AOKP.KERNEL.zip)
Now, let's move on to restoring! Very similar process.
_____________________________________________
Guide Part III: Restoring a backup made using this totorial.
Just like backing up, we're going to temporarily use the EL26 kernel to restore your old ROM, which will contain the EL26 kernel as well. After restoring, we must flash the kernel that your backed up ROM requires to operate. Let's start, shall we?
Step 1: You should already have the kernel that matches your backup, since you used this method to backup in the first place. But if you don't, here's a link to the available kernels. Go find and download your kernel here. Make sure that you find the kernel that is associated with your backed up ROM. (ex: FE21, FE16, FE14, and so on..)
Step 2: Once you've downloaded your corresponding kernel, put the phone into Download Mode by holding down the VOL DOWN + POWER buttons, until you see a Warning!! screen with a triangle at the bottom.
Let's restore your old ROM, then flash the required kernel!
Step 8: Unlike backing up, we need to wipe before the restore. Wipe data/factory reset by using the option on the main screen of recovery, Wipe cache using the option a few clicks below it, and Wipe Dalvik cache using the option from the Advanced menu.
Step 9: After wiping, like instructed above, proceed to the backup and restore options, then restore as you normally would.
Note: Make SURE that you understand that this restore is going to contain the EL26 kernel. This kernel WILL NOT WORK with ICS ROMs. Just because we are using it during recovery, doesn't mean it's friendly with ICS. We will be restoring the kernel that belongs with this after we restore the backup itself.
Step 10: Now, you'll need to flash the kernel that you overwrote when you flashed EL26 with ODIN at the beginning. You can do this with the EL26 recovery. Go to "Flash a zip file" and find the kernel that you downloaded from this page that matches your backed up ROM, then flash it. If you haven't placed this file onto your SD card yet, please do so by either removing the SD card and using your PC to load it on, or use the "Mounts and Storage > Mount USB" option, then load it through your USB connection.
Step 11: Once the kernel that matches your existing backed up ROM has been flashed, you can safely reboot and your phone should start up as normal. It will take longer this time, since you've flashed a new kernel, so be patient and don't fret.
You should now be back into the old ROM that you used this method to restore! Not too hard, was it?
_____________________________________________
Now, as promised! The Triangle on boot up issue!
This happened because you used ODIN to flash the EL26 recovery kernel. There's an EASY fix.
Go here and download this to your phone. I HIGHLY recommend this app! It's WELL worth the $1.99, and the DEV really honestly deserves it. If you really want that annoying looking triangle gone, and to get that flash count reset, this app will be perfect.
Here's an excerpt from the description:
Triangle Away can remove the yellow triangle from your boot screen as well as reset the flash counter, for a select few Samsung devices running Ice Cream Sandwich.

I know you link to the correct download of EL26 but you may still want to mention it's Chris41g's EL26 CWM kernel that they need use. They're lots of other versions of the EL26 kernel they could use by accident if they don't click on the link and try to find it on their own. I'd also mention buying a USB jig as another way to remove the yellow triangle and reset the Odin count. The jigs can come in quite handy at other times too. Good job though!

That doesn't fix this type of brick. In the other thread the OP could still get into recovery and download mode so he actually can still repair his emmc.
Wow, excellently stated and extremely comprehensive!

You had THE brick? Worked on one?
Saw one from a distance? ? Lived in the same neighborhood of one?
I did.
What do you think all the talk about it "getting to data and then hanging" was about/did you not understand in almost all posts about the brick?
Also, have you factored for peoples lies?
"no, i didn't touch it at all..." Or "i was just looking at it and it fell off, i swear i wasn't playing with scissors"

And YES, you are correct! I need to mention that it is indeed, his kernel, and give him a mention in this!

I would not, and could not, ever rely on this thread as a way out of this brick. Sadly, it's not complete enough for me to have faith in it. HOPEFULLY, it does turn into an unbrick in the future and someone turns it into an exe script that can help those already doomed, but as I see it now, it's not ready for the masses.
It IS a good find, though. And thank you for bringing it into the light. Maybe someone can make a use of it, cause I know I can't!
The thread you're discussing has been a known but not recommended workaround since March when drnull experimented with this on his E4GT. The main problem is that you would have to customize the .pit file to flash ODIN and it's questionable at best with CWM flashes. And as this is a problem with the embedded eMMC controller it's not known whether using the file system in this state will behave or not long term.
Hopefully we'll get the firmware patch which can apparently fix the issue so long as the device can boot. I haven't heard anything from the various parties yet but it seems the communication is going on finally.
And YES, it was the same issue. As Mr. Sumrall from Google has stated the eMMC lockup doesn't always happen at boot, so in those cases it's possible to get in and use that to get a working device. Bottom line, don't wipe from ICS just yet... but stay tuned.
Hope that clears it up.

I thought mobile odin is also risky as it can use the same suspect erase function that's been identified to be the cause of this eMMC issue.
Not that I have personal experience, but thats what ive read in that emmc discussion thread.

You will need to get the Kies samsung drivers installed on your PC
you will need to download Odin or install Mobile Odin on your phone
use Odin to flash kernels, Roms, and modems (tar files or MD5's)
If the kernel you flash has a custom recovery, you can use it to flash ZIP files of different ROMs, Kernels, or other add-ons for your rom (themes, tweaks, etc). You can also create back-ups with it.
start there
Feel welcomed already. Not to knock my fellow evo bretheren, but had I made a thread similar to this in the e3d q&a the only response I would have received would have been "search works wonders" or "You ever heard of searching".
I'll start reading up on odin tonight. Thank you.
Modems aren't confusing at all. Any modem can be flashed with any rom. Simple enough, yeah? Flash a modem through a .zip file with a custom recovery or unlocked recovery. Or flash a modem through a .tar file (I think) through Odin. No problemo right?

I was just told that, modems to samy = radios to htc. So that clears up all the confusion for me.

There is a lot of info here and it can be a daunting task trying to narrow down even the basics at times. Just a few pointers to get started isn't to much to ask
also................google is your friend (don't forget that one lol)
1. Don't bother using Kies to connect your phone to the computer, download the full samsung driver suite here and install it. If Kies is already installed, remove it.:
http://org.downloadcenter.samsung.c...342248/Sprint_d710_USB_Driver_v1_3_2360_0.exe
2. Since you're new to flashing on this phone I normally recommend sticking with Gingerbread, at least for a little while. It is safe, stable and fast. The multitude of ICS roms may seem tempting but come with a certain amount of risk if you're not familiar with the flashing process. It would be a shame to brick your new shiny phone.
3. Here are the basic steps to root and add Clockworkmod recovery to your phone. Qbking has a ton of video howto's out there, view any you can lay your hands on! :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24158551&postcount=9980
4. Once you're on stock rooted from step 3, you can download and flash any (Gingerbread) rom you want. I think the 2 most popular are Calkulin's and Blazer's roms but there are a bunch of others. They can be found by searching the E4GT development forum. Please follow the directions for flashing any ROM closely on the developers' OP.
5. Ask a lot of questions first! Better safe than sorry.
Edit: I know your phone is already rooted but the #3 above is how it gets done. If you ever have any problems, that is the safest way to wipe out the current setup and go back to stock rooted.
Hello XDA Community,
Well I am a beginner in terms of trying to utilize anything my T-Mob. Samsung Galaxy S3 has to offer, tried to place CM11 onto my S3 but I think I just bricked my device.
I got to the part where my phone was unrooted and I had all the files ready for ZIP. I actually used TOWELROOT to unroot it, got SuperSU & permissions, I think I may have bypassed KNOX, not 100% sure.
I had the latest TWRP - it boots into it fine but when I tried to install CM11 w/ GAPPs - it fails to install. I keep getting the error that the binary doesn't work. I was reading on the forums that one had to change the d2tmob into d2can - tried it and put the new zip back into the SD card, I even tried to put CM10.2 thinking that maybe the "stable version" might be better than the nightly.
Anyhow, I was following a guide and I deleted everything (INCLUDING MY OS) except for things in my SD Card.
I cannot recover anything because I backed up my phone onto my phone - which was wiped...real genius....
I am kicking myself, I haven't been able to use my phone for 4 days now, I've been trying to fix it myself but I have NO CLUE in terms of what to do next.
I keep reading about ODIN and booting something else but I am extremely distraught over the whole ordeal and I do not know what to do.
I can boot into download mode (down button + middle + power) but my skills are extremely rudimentary - I am sorry to bother the community but I really do need help.
I have trouble understanding any difficult things - I kind of need the instructions to be broken down to like "Plug phone in now" - do that...and etc. Any links that might help are muchly appreciated.
I just want any OS now - even if it is stock but I need simple instructions ~ I am sorry, I really do not know where else to turn to....pretty sure my phone is bricked (soft bricked, idk) - but I do not know where else to turn - please help XDA community.
So if there's anything someone could dig up or do to help me fix my phone....I would be eternally grateful.
Download the stock or root66 firmware from my thread stickied in development. I suggest reading that and other stickies as well btw.
After downloading, unzip. The result should be a .tar.md5 file.
Boot download mode
Plug in phone, open odin 3.09. (Download in my signature)
Click AP and select the firmware you just got.
After the check finishes, click start. When it says PASS it'll reboot and you're done.

And AP should be in Odin right?
Also...for the boxes - what should be checked in ODIN 3.09 when I am about to put in the AP thing?

Okay, so now that my phone is back on Stock (I used the root66 method), I have SuperSU but when I go to the app, it gives me the message
"if you have a custom recovery like TWRP or CWM, that can be used to install the SU binary. This is recommended for HTC devices. How would you like to install the SU Binary, with Normal as an option & TWRP/CWM as another option.
I am trying to see how to properly root my phone in the next step.
After I root my phone, I hope to get flash a ROM.
I am sorry to ask again DocHoliday77 but could you please help me once again in terms of what to do next?
I think your instructions were really simple (layman's terms) and it helped me debrick my device.
I just do not know how to flash a ROM, let's just say for purposes that I wanted the Carbon ROM - how would I proceed once I get to the step with SuperSU's message? Please help
If your intentions are to flash a rom, you don't need to be rooted before hand. Just boot into twrp/cwm, factory reset and flash the rom. That's it!
As to your specific question, I always choose Normal for that option.

Just a heads up, I hear they may have solved it, but the latest cm roms haven't worked well without the 4.4.2 modems. If you flash and find you have signal/connection/imei issues, factory reset and flash an older version.

Seems like a silly question but how do I get CWM/TWRP?
I had booted into TWRP before but I kept getting the binary updater error when I tried to flash CM11.
Is there an easy way to get CWM - I think that would be my route of preference now because of the sour experience with TWRP.
here is a link to CWM advanced philz touch recovery. its CWM but with xtra options and you use 'touch' instead of volume buttons.

Sorry, was just reading up on how to flash PhilzCWM with a GS3-t999 but it seems a bit complicated.
I'm sorry, I am extremely computer illiterate and I have to apologize for that.
My goal is to get a custom ROM - I already have the ROM I want downloaded and such but I just do not have anyway to flash it.
Is there any easier way to get to where I want to be?
Please let me know & if you could provide simple layman's terms, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks in advance.
if you can get to cwm recvery to flash a zip file , then
https://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/d2lte/
the 2nd zip file from the bottom is the latest i believe. (philz_touch_6.486-d2lte.zip).
click on that and it should download to your phone. then go into CWM and choose that file to flash. reboot phone. then go back into recovery and you should now have 'cwm advanced philz touch recovery' on your phone.
then you can flash your ROM from there.
hope that made sense.

Can you tell us exactly what recovery you currently have? Twrp/cwm/philz should all work fine. I use twrp. Just personal preference.
Also, go into Settings > about device and tell us your current baseband.

Can you tell us exactly what recovery you currently have? Twrp/cwm/philz should all work fine. I use twrp. Just personal preference.
Also, go into Settings > about device and tell us your current baseband.

Hey I finally installed a custom ROM onto my Galaxy S3!
I just used TWRP and flashed it. I've been messing around with all the combinations so far ~ it's really amazing, it's like I have a new phone.
Quick Question: say I wanted to flash another ROM, other than the one I am currently using.
Can I just download another ROM onto my SD card and flash it via TWRP again OR
Do I have to restore the phone back to it's original stock OS and redo the TWRP thing again?

Sorry I haven't replied sooner. Haven't been home this weekend.
For the most part, yes, just download the new rom and flash. No need to revert to stock or reflash recovery except in certain situations.
Unless you are flashing a very similar rom, it's always a good idea to factory reset. You can get away with "dirty flashing" sometimes, but if you have problems, youll have to reset.
This is required if going between different based roms such as Touchwiz and cm.

Hi, everybody!
The minus page says that the file is not avaible or does not exist, when I try to download the original ICS Rom of the T999 T-Mobile.
Please, fix this!
Thanks!

I don't recommend installing a stock ICS ROM if your phone has a 4.3 bootloader.
Yeah I did the ICS on the 4.3 bootloader. Don't do it, it hurts......
