Amon Ra ROM Manager - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Possibly a dumb question but do I need ROM manager installed after I flash Amon as my recovery? You do your nandroids in recovery with Amon, right? Thanks in advance.

There's really no reason to have Rom Manager installed, period

HipKat is %100 correct! No need for a ROM manager. And yes, do your nandroids from recovery.

The instructions in Amon_RA's thread are pretty detailed... A little searching will solve your problems...
Download ROM Manager off of the Android Market. It has an option to install Amon Ra.

[Q] Clockwork to Amon backups

If I do a backup using Clockwork, can I just move it into the Amon_Ra recovery folder in case Amon is the recovery that loads?
I'm getting tired of creating backups for both recoveries because I go back and forth.
Nope.

yes, i've done it with going from clockwork to Amon.
My question is why would you be switching recoverys that much.
No. It doesn't work. If you've done it before, I don't know. You must've gotten lucky or something. The two recoveries back up differently and the backups aren't interchangeable. I've tried it several times.

I don't purposefully do it. I prefer Amon, but when I reboot it sometimes reverts back to Clockwork. The only reason I want to use Clockwork is because it is attached to ROM Manager

Can't flash other ROM's after CWM issue

I was affected by CWM when I upgraded to 3.0. I can't flash any ROM's except for Fresh's. I've tried going through Rom Manager, manually downloading ROM, AR recovery. The ROM install will complete but when I reboot I'm still in Fresh's. I don't know what it did to my phone. I've even deleted the rom.zip and downloaded it again thinking it was a bad download. From here on out I'm permanently switching to AR so if you guys can let me know what I should do.
By the way I list my backups. I did have a backup of UD but it won't restore in CWM. Will it work if I copy the backup from CWM and move it to the Amon Ra folder? I don't want to try it and possible make things worse.

Yes I need help on this, too. I wanted to go to Myn's rom and can not at all. And I believe I read backups are not interchangeable between CW and RA.
You need to restore amon_ra 1.8 as your recovery and then reflash your rom. Cwm backups are not compatible with ra.

I tried that. I re-downloaded the ROM's, placed on the root, flashed in Amon Ra and it completes but doesn't boot up. Out hangs at the white htc evo splash screen. The CWM broke my phone.
I'm trying to avoid flashing the stock RUU and rooting again. I'm guessing there may be a file thats conflicting. By the way I deleted ROM manager permanently.

you can do this using cwm(rom manager) , if its greyed out then dl the latest amon_ra1.8 and put on the root of your sd card, then try again thru cwm. thats what worked for me.
But yea the latest cwm update isnt something to get excited about. doesnt play nice on some evo's.
stick with good ole faithful Amon_Ra and start flashing from recovery, not from some app. its always stable and not to mention wipes correctly/easily
Any tips? I need to get my AOSP rom and Sense ROM loaded.

Switch from within ROM manager. At the bottom it says flash alternate... Click on that and flash.

Only thing I'm worried about, won't I lose my nandroid backups? What if something goes wrong in this flash?
Backup again.

Nandroid

Well this is gunna seem like a n00b question, but here it goes...
How do I do a nandroid backup? I am starting to get into applying themes and I really don't wanna brick my phone.
Mods- I did a search, and didn't find anything though all the Rom threads

Or you can make one in Rom Manager.

Okay, I have tried it before on Rom manager (didn't know that backing up the Rom was a nandroid backup at the time) but I'm not sure if it worked. When I go into manage backups it is just a blank screen(except the add)
Does it get sent to the SD-card then?

You have installed the latest 3.0.0.5 recovery via ROM Manager,or a old
3.0.0.5 from a other site?

So you have ROM Manager 3.0.0.7 and it shows Recovery 3.0.0.5?

Hm,no problems with CM 7 ROM!
Otherwise boot into recovery and select backup.
I don't see a option titled backup when in recovery. But I have found my clockwork recovery file, so I'm not worried.

Nevermind all. I feel so noobish now, and have updated my clockwork. I now have a backup. Thank-you all

What are the rules of thumb regarding when to do a backup? Before and after a rom flash? Before changing a theme?
Sent from my SilverBullet "RootedHTCDesireZ"
pretty much before you do something that might screw your phone xD
I just do a Nandroid anytime that I'm changing something. It only takes a couple minutes, and can be deleted after if not used, but it will save you from a lot of headaches.
If you're messing around with a ton of stuff you can always wipe your cache/dalvik before flashing something major, but this isn't totally necessary just flashing themes or addons.

Newest CWM

Quick question...How do I know if I'm on the newest CWM on my Evo...I just wanna make sure before I flash AOKP on my moms phone aheh. if I brick it I won't know how to explain to her what happened. So let's do this in one shot

just boot into recovery and the version number should be at the bottom the latest version is 5.0.2.2 for the regular and for the touch version it is 5.8.0.1 . I really recommend switching from clockworkmod to Amon Ra recovery. Clockworkmod isnt the greatest recovery for the evo. It might be for other phones but mostly all evo users use Amon ra recovery. Clockworkmod is known to not wipe correctly on the evo and can lead to problems. Heres a link to amon ra style (better then original amon ra) which i personally use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1339654 the latest version

you can use adb to flash it
adb will work, and is not difficult, but it is much easier to run the attached PC36IMG file from your SD card through the bootloader.
