Recently my battery went to crap on me and won't hold a charge for more than 8 minutes. It says 100% and when it hits 85% a few minutes later it shuts off. When I turn it back on it says 3% left. I've calibrated it about 20+ times, nothing works so I know it has to be the battery. Here's my question. When my new battery arrives (it's a larger one compared to stock), do I wipe the stats before putting it in? Or just take the stock battery out and put the new one in to charge? Thanks, anyone who reads!
If the battery ships fully charged, or you charge it externally before using it, then yes.
Otherwise, I'd put the battery in and charge it fully, then wipe battery stats & do a complete calibration.
Maybe someone with experience can help you out a little more. I have extra batteries but never wiped battery stats. But I charge them in an external charger so there's no need.

man i been having this strange problem too but i took my battery to sprint and they said its a good battery so im lost and this drop happens on any rom i flash or any kernal i have tried evrything from re-calibrate to htc fix where u let it charge then unplug and plug it back when u get your new battery let me know how it goes

That would be ideal if I could charge it before going in the phone. What if I just leave my phone shut off and put the battery in to just charge it?

Got you, bud. New batt comes in tomorrow, I'll see if it fixes the problem. I hope so, anyway.
I just put a new stock battery in and did the calibration as soon as it charged the first time.
Seems like it worked fine.
Okay for anyone that ever comes to this thread months down the road here is what happened in my case.
I went to Sprint, the gentleman asked what could he do for me and I asked him to test my battery. Before even taking it he said, "I'll test it but it's probably going to come up green." I asked why was what, and he replied, "Because unless something is really wrong with it, they all say green." So I asked him to try it out anyway. A couple seconds later he comes back and says, "Congratulations, you're the first person I've ever seen with a bad battery." I immediately did a, "YES!" Because if the battery wasn't the problem then I would have had to get a new phone.
So there you go, my battery was totally messed up, had to get a replacement.

My phone battery will drop quickly from 100% to 92% right after unplugged from the power cord. By quickly, I meant I did not use the phone, killed all tasks, and battery will drop to 92% literally in minutes.
Bump charging, wiping battery stats, wiping dalvik cache, killing all tasks are not helping at all. I don't have SetCPU, but someone in the forum mentioned they have SetCPU, and it is not helping either.
Is anyone having this problem? Does anyone have any idea on how to solve this?

I spoke to RMK as well as others about this in IRC, doesn't look like anything we can do, deep in the HTC code I guess.
I have the same issue using SkyRaider 3.1. Battery is 100% then after 5-10 minutes drops down to low 90s. It bothered me at first but after several days of moderate to heavy use and still having almost 50% battery left at the end of the day, I just figured it was some kind of bug when reading the battery level at the beginning. How is your battery life overall? If it's like mine, then i wouldn't worry too much about it as long as it's lasting longer. I'm using the 1750mAh battery from Sedio.
I was having the exact same problems until I went back to stock everything and bump charged. Took the OTA for 2.2, rooted, custom recovery, bump charged, wiped stats and cache and now I'm good to go. I usually dont think crap like this works but it made a huge difference in battery life and stopped the 100-90% problems I was having.

I am using the 1500 mAh battery.
My battery life is uptime around 24 hours and awake time around 6-9 hours depending on usage.
so you're not having the issue anymore, after going back to stock (non rooted) with the official OTA 2.2?

I've searched and found that the cause is the phone saying the battery is charged fully when its not basically so to fix this after it goes to 100% while the phone is one then u should turn it off and let it charge fully from there

Is this a once time fix thing or do you have to do it every time you charge?
bump charging 4 or 5 times in a row (basically bump as many times as you need to to get it to where the light turns green withing a minute of 2 or plugging it in again) and then wiping battery stats solved this for me... kinda.. i still have to bump twice, but after that it'll stay at 100 for a good while and work it's way down normally, no jumping 10% down..

That is bump charging. Something htc is unable or unwilling to fix.
The issue has been known for a while and you have to 'bump charge' every time to avoid the 5-10% drop.
Here's their response about fixing the "bump charge".

Do you bump charge every single time you charge right now? It's pain in the butt if I have to bump charge everyday.
Yup every day. 4 or 5 times is way overkill though. Just charge phone until green, turn off (don't need to unplug), wait until it turns green then do the plug/unplug one more time.

Went to stock (official OTA), rooted, custom recovery, bump charged, reset stats and cache and I'm good now.
I charged it to "full" while it was powered on. Once the light turned green I turned the phone off, charged again until the light turned green. Took about 25 minutes. Powered up in recovery wiped battery and cache and now I'm good. The key is after doing all this you have to let the phone completely die.
If you're wiping your battery stats after a bump charge, you will have this problem every time you don't bump charge.
If you wipe your battery stats after it goes green without a bump charge, you won't have this problem.
This is because the software thinks the bump charged battery levels equal 100% charge. A bump charge adds approximately 10 percent of charge.
Formatting your phone or any software changes won't actually do anything other than wipe your battery stats while your phone is not at bump charge levels.

The reason this happens is because the battery gets charged fully to 100%, and then is allowed to slowly drain back to 90% (or so) before it's charged back to 100% again. This is how Lithium batteries are charged.
Try this: charge the battery to 100%, and immediately disconnect it after it's full. Notice how the battery doesn't drop to the low 90's immediately.
The reason "bump charging" appears to work is because there is no drain on the battery, since the phone is off. It goes to 100% and stops.
There's nothing we can do code-wise to fix this; it's just how the battery technology works. Keeping it fully charged at 100% while on would damage the charging capacity of our phones.

Solutions in search of a problem
Let me preface this by saying that I’m not an electrical engineer, or any sort of expert on phone hardware, but I think a couple issues are being confused. I’ve seen many posts about this battery “problem” here and elsewhere and an important point is being missed. People are confusing what the battery is actually doing with what the phone SAYS the battery is doing. They are NOT the same thing. The battery is a physical device and it will do what it’s going to do.
Battery life is a function of battery quality, initial state of charge, and demand. If you want the battery to last longer, look at ways of reducing demand. What applications are in use? How long is the screen on? What brightness level? Overclocking and undervolting settings? All these will affect ACTUAL battery life.
At lot of the “solutions” discussed have nothing to do with conserving energy use, but have everything to do with messing with how the phone REPORTS the state of charge. A good example is the issue of the initial drop reported by many users during the first few minutes after unplugging the charger. I see this on my own phone. If the phone is “taught” that 100% charge is when it is totally crammed with juice and plugged in as well, it’s not surprising that there is a good bit of voltage drop (+/- 10%?) right after unplugging. Does this mean there is a problem? NO! It’s just the battery doing what batteries do. A lot of the suggestions about wiping battery stats and such have nothing to do with saving energy. They are ways of fiddling with how the phone REPORTS its condition under various circumstances.
My advice: if you are happy with how your battery lasts, over the course of a day or so, then learn to relax, crack open a cold brew, and revel in just what a great phone the Incredible is. If your battery isn’t lasting as long as you need it to, then look at ways to save power or get a larger capacity battery. Tweaking the battery meter function is simply a feel-good exercise and won’t get you any actual improved performance. END OF RANT.
I can confirm that my gf's phone and my good buddies phone(both were never rooted) have never had a problem with the phone charging up slow first off(both phones charge about 1% per minute). And since they accepted the OTA, have not had the problem of charging to 100% and quickly jumping down to 90%. For instance, the other day my buddy charged his phone while on to 100%, played a game for about 2 minutes and closed it, battery was at 99%. Now I have tried and continually try every possible solution to my battery dying quick and charging slow, but am realizing that this must just be the cost of customizing my phone to my liking. And at least for the moment, a stock 2.2 DINC is just not an option for me.

Sorry that I posted in the wrong forum. I thought this is related to the kernel or ROM I am using (Which is development right????).
Not to question your knowledge about the "battery technology", but why is it only happening to certain people? Nowadays most device are using Li-ion battery, why this phenomenon do not occur to all devices?
So after some time I've been battling with my battery life through the day. Few months back it was great, Id easily get a day no problem! Then I found I had a wakelock issue and had that fixed.
I now suddenly have almost multiple things going on at once but first a small back story.
Went to bed one night and had it plugged into the wall. Went to bed at 60% and woke up and my phone was down to 6%. I thought, well the usb port is bad or the cable. Took it into the sprint store, they of course say "it looks like its charging just fine, the light is coming on" (the light was on during the night too).
They checked the battery and they said it was bad. Im wanting to take it to another store and have them check, because either: they didnt want to replace me with a new phone or replace the usb port if thats bad.
1) Bad battery- in a matter of 30minutes (during my lunch break at work) my battery dropped from 63% to 14%- only used 3g for facebook and sent 2 text messages. And my phone is undervolted and underclocked
2) Possible bad usb port- I plug my phone in all day at work, and 90% of the time the screen is off. The % of the battery doesnt increase, but maybe decreases slightly (I have data and everything turned off while at work because I get no data signal).
3) wakelock- so suddenly I'm getting a huge percentage of system usage of 54% in my battery stats. A few months back it was maybe 1%? I flashed the .img that sets the wimax, PRI, NV, etc to what fixed the issue back then. Im just confused how this has come back now when I havent even updated anything related only my rom (MIUI 1.8.26).
So I've ordered 2 2000mah batteries off ebay- I wasnt going to pay $40 from a battery story across from the sprint store (as they didnt have any stock, only extended batteries).
If anyone has had a similar experience, or would know what is the culprit would love to get feedback. Hopefully I can get this fixed soon. Maybe just a trial and error.
Something really strange just happened. I checked my phone just now and the battery is at 98% and just maybe 30minutes earlier it shut off because of low battery
What I explained before about using my phone on my lunch break was only 2 hours ago and showed 16%.
I always wipe my battery states when I update my ROM or install a new kernal.

Don't wipe battery stats if you don't have a full battery, it'll keep your battery from charging fully.
It may be the battery, but since you're getting new batteries you'll know then. If you didn't get an external charger, I'd suggest doing so. That way you can guarantee that your extended batteries get a full charge, and you can switch out a dead battery with a fully charged one if you keep having problems. The usb port on the Evo is crappy anyway, but if the light comes on and stays on & you can transfer data through the usb port then I doubt that's the problem.
It could be hardware failure, but wait until you get a new battery and have properly calibrated to come to that conclusion.
In the meantime download Battery Monitor Widget, that should show you your true battery capacity even if the system will not. You don't have to use the widget, you can just open the app. Once you see that your battery is fully charged, calibrate your battery properly. Wipe battery stats at 100%, let it drain until it shuts off, charge to 100% without breaks, and you should be good to go.

BMW has the feature to wipe stats. I also recomend to look at the reports and judge when the battery is full by looking at mV. 4200mV is full charge. Then wipe stats FIRST, then unplug and run down completely, then recharge fully with out unplugging.

You know what I realized what might be the issue? Back a few weeks ago, I bought an extended battery to use to take videos at a concert. At that point I wiped the battery stats at 100% of the 2500mah or so battery..
welcome all who see this. alright, my phone is rooted, and i went to upgrade to gingerbread and i used the mikg rom 2.5:1-2. unfortunately i erased the battery stats not paying attention and talking. from then....the phone battery never charges.....even when plugged in it constantly sinks to nothing. even when i charged it turned off for 6 hours, it never gets past 15% HELP! i have tried to rewipe the battery stats, but i only get past draining the battery, because now it wont fully charge. i even bought an extended battery which also drains, but never charges! i am not sure what to do to get battery stats up to par, or to cause this phone to charge any battery! CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP! (much appreciated)
im a noob here so i really dont know what im talking about but i had almost the same problem when i bought my extended battery from sprint. first day of use was really good and when i went to charge the next time as soon as i unplugged the charger after a full charge the % would drop soo much...i was getting like 10 hrs which isnt much with an extended battery. i updated to mikg 2.53 and wiped the cache and all the usual and the battery stats and its seem to workin now 1d 4h 54m on battery....hopefully this helps
Use an external wall charger or a different phone to fully charge the battery. Then insert the battery and immediately wipe battery stats.
Should fix the problem.
Using an sbc kernel will allow you to fully charge the battery as well. Use something like Battery Monitor Widget to keep an eye on your charge - 4200mv is fully charged.

It almost sounds like a problem with the phone. I wipe battery stats everytime I flash a new Rom and I've never had problems. You might want to see if the battery will charge on someone else's phone first.

I just purchased a used Galaxy S3 and have had it for a couple of days already. This is what my normal charging routine is with any phone I have owned:
I shut the phone off before I go to sleep at night (usually around 11:00 pm) and plug it in. I'll get up at 6:00 am, unplug it and turn it back on. I've noticed though that with my new phone for the past 2 mornings, the red LED light is still on when I unplug it and when I turn the phone on, I immediately check the battery status and it has only charged as high as 92%. I am using the original wall plug (5V-1A) but the usb cable is not original. I also tried using 2 different ones with the same results. I'm just wondering what the problem could be and if anyone else has had this issue and what they have done to correct it? Thanks...

Soooo, last night I tried a third micro usb cable and I drained the battery all the way down to the point where the phone shut itself off. I then plugged it in for the night and the charging light was finally green this morning. However when I turned the phone on, the percentage still only showed that it was at 92%. I'm not sure what else to try and who knows, could the battery be borked?
How long does the battery last? Just because the battery meter says 92% doesn't mean its not full, it could just be calibrated incorrectly. Put another way, as far as the OS know 92% is as far as the battery charges even thought the battery is at maximum capacity. Unfortunately im not sure if there is way to reset the battery meter without root access.
Yesterday the battery lasted a little over 16 hrs. That's with mobile data shut off, gps off, bluetooth off and pretty much everything else. I sent a hand full of texts, around 3 hours of wifi usage and about an hour of music. I can't really think of anything else I used it for...
If you are getting 16 hours on a stock battery there isn't anything wrong with it :good:. If the calibration of the battery meter bugs you enough you can always root it and reset the battery stats, either from CWM recovery or with a capable app. I have SD Maid which can do this with root access, but im not sure if the feature is available in the free version. Im sure there are other apps on the market that can do this as well, possibly free ones, but im almost certain they will require root to do so. If you do, charger the battery overnight to ensure a full charge, if possible use a usb power source instead of the wall adapter. This is a slower charge and actually can achieve a fuller battery charge. As soon as you remove the phone from the charger reset the stats and let it run down to nearly dead, i would probably do this twice to give the battery meter a good high/low limit.

I've just pulled the back cover off and the battery in it is 3.8V and 7.98Wh. The model number of it I believe is GB/T18287-2000 and below that it also shows 4.35V. Can anyone confirm if this is even the correct battery in it for this phone? Thanks...

So another morning went by with the same issue and i figured i had to try something else. I went into The Source after work and went ahead and purchased the extra battery kit they sell (comes with the battery and a battery charger/stand) making sure that i could return it if it turned out that it didnt solve my problem. So i took my old battery out of the phone and when i turned it over i noticed a dent and a crease running down one side of it (probably the culprit). I put the new battery in, plugged the phone in and a little while later i got a green light and a 100% battery status! I was worried that there was something actually wrong with the phone but a $50 gamble later and im good to go. Oh i also tried charging the old battery in the charger but it would not finish the charging cycle (wouldnt go green after 3 hrs in it and the battery according to my phone was at 80% when i took it out).

Yikes! Lucky you noticed this before it turned into a big problem. With visible physical damage to that extent i would say the chances of that battery causing some serious damage is high, especially if it had went unnoticed and was used for extended periods of time. I would contact Samsung as they should replace the battery under warranty if the battery was in that condition coming out of the box.
See thats the thing. I bought the phone used and the issue was there since day one of owning it. Since these phones havent been out for a year yet, there should still be some kind of warranty on it and i guess it wouldnt hurt to try contacting samsung about it. Who knows, i could get a spare battery out of the whole thing.

My only problem with that is who knows how it got that way, if it didnt ship from the factory in that condition Samsung shouldn't be held responsible.
True but how in the world could someone do that on purpose? The condition of the phone itself is about a 9/10. Unless they took it out for who knows what reason and dropped it and whatever else. I'll never know. Maybe i will just leave it alone. Everything is back to the way it should be...

I have an epic that was working fine. I got a new phone so it sat with the battery dead for a little over a month. Now I gave the epic to my daughter and the battery is all wonky. It will charge up to 100%, but when I take it off the charger it will last anywhere from 20 minutes to 4 hours, which I got the other day with no use and airplane mode on. Now here's the wonky part. It only goes down to around 88% and than goes dead. If I plug it back in it says it has about 80% charge. But if I don't plug it in and just try to turn it back on it acts like it doesn't have enough juice. Now on this phone I'm on cwm 6.8.x or something like that and you can't wipe battery stats so I didn't try that. So I guess my next step would be to flash another recovery and wipe battery stats. I did just flash the peoples ROM 2.2 (I think was the number) just yesterday and wiped everything else for a clean install. Has anyone heard of or experienced this? How can I fix this? Will wiping battery stats work? Also, the battery was great, I could easily get all day out of it with average use just a month ago. Please and thank you.

Sounds like you need to replace the battery. Look on Amazon and eBay.
I haven't heard of this happening before, nor has it happened to me. Even though some would advise against it, i'd 'calibrate' the battery just to see if that would fix it. If that doesn't fix it, I have no idea.

From what I recall there was a lot of different opinions about the battery wipe in CWM.
If you google it there should be a video that shows you how to use it. I think you drain the battery until phone shuts off then charge it full, unplug it wait 10 minutes, charge it full, then turn it on and wipe battery stats. Then run phone dead again and charge again. Don't really want to charge it until after running it dead.
I used it a couple of times and it seemed to help but people say it has no affect because the battery stats are in the rom or something like that.
I also have heard that after you load a new rom you have to give it some time and the battery will get better.
I have never experienced what you are so sorry I can't help.
I would guess most would say its the battery buy a new one cause it sounds like the battery is only charging 20%.
I still have my stock battery after almost 2 years. It will get me through the day if I just make phone calls and text, but I have to keep a charger handy if I'm going to use the phone for other things. Sometimes my battery will drop if I reboot. It will be at like 30% and when I reboot it will come on with 15% and tell me to charge it.
They say the 1800ma model will work in this phone and I would check into that if buying a new battery.

The battery was working fine two months ago. That's why its weird to me. Wiping the stats didn't help. I guess a new battery is in order. Grrrrrrrr

I have an epic that was working fine. I got a new phone so it sat with the battery dead for a little over a month. Now I gave the epic to my daughter and the battery is all wonky. It will charge up to 100%, but when I take it off the charger it will last anywhere from 20 minutes to 4 hours, which I got the other day with no use and airplane mode on. Now here's the wonky part. I did just flash the peoples ROM 2.2 (I think was the number) just yesterday and wiped everything else for a clean install. Has anyone heard of or experienced this? How can I fix this? Will wiping battery stats work? Also, the battery was great, I could easily get all day out of it with average use just a month ago. Please and thank you.

If it was the original battery it already has some miles on it and if it sat for a month or two dead in the phone then it's most likely toast. You will get best results with li-ion batteries during the first 300 to 500 charges, so after a year or two the battery will naturally loose it's ability to hold a charge, that's just the nature of the beast. A new battery will do wonders!
The percentage that is displayed is usually directly correlated with battery voltage. So 3.200 V would represent 100% and I think it is 2.6 is 0%. So what sounds like is happening is the battery has a bad cell and jumps from say 3V or whatever is 80% right to some voltage below 2.6. A new battery "should" fix this.

check that 4g isn't on or google talk isn't on. Google now is a big battery waster too. For unexplicable drains, check for a defective battery and if all else fails a clean wipe/install. I've had just about all of these issues on the 4 epic's we own.
