Galaxy Nexus Verizon black friday release - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

It looks like Galaxy Nexus will be released on Verizon around black Friday.
http://www.droid-life.com/2011/11/0...s-headed-for-release-just-after-black-friday/

That's a marketing roadmap, not a release roadmap.

Yeah with the way this thing is going they will first show real ads on TV and **** starting then. I am thinking this phone is going to never release at this rate.

Im thinking its just advertisements for BF

Doubtful, but it does make good marketing sense. It's got to be hard to sell a smartphone when you have Google's own phone running the newest android sitting on the shelf right next to it.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App

Its just a marketing roadmap. It shows that after black friday weekend they will start large marketing campaigns. Doesn't mean the phone will be released that day.

So when this coming to sprint then

E4gt future proof

So I'm thinking of getting this phone with my soon-to-expire premier program upgrade (especially since it looks like we wont see galaxy nexus before the end of december), and I want to be sure this thing will stay satisfying for two years.
Primarily, I want to avoid issues the epic 4g has: limited (although what there is is extremely dedicated) dev support and lack of cm/miui that keeps the phone stuck at outdated os iterations (which is mostly sammy's fault anyway).
What im asking is, is this phone a dev darling and do they promise to love it for ever, even after samsung abandons it in 8 months?

There is no such thing on the market. Once this phone stops getting Android updates, the community will have no choice but to dump it for the next newest. It'll probably be able to drive your car, have sex with your wife, and make banana pancakes. How will you be able to coerce a developer away from such a dream phone when all you have to offer him/her is a beat up old 2011 E4GT to work on? You just have to let nature take it's course. Buy the phone for what it does now or always ask that same question: "Should I wait for the next one or get this one now?"
which ROM makes Banana Pancakes?
Mine only makes Buttermilk.....
Premier program upgrade expires 12/31/12 you have a good year and two months to make a decision.

Your Premier upgrade doesn't expire in December. You have all of 2012 to use it.
If you were thinking you could have gotten one additional 11-12mo upgrade cycle, that would have needed to be done by 10/1/2011.
When it comes to electronics, nothing is future proof!
The SGS2 is a great phone today and while it might not be the top of the line in a few months it will still be able to handle it's own.
There is one thing I am jealous of with the Galaxy Nexus, and that is the HD screen. If the SGS2 would have had an HD screen, it would be right up there with the GN. I do not count ICS because the SGS2 will eventually get it. If the GN only had a qhd screen I don't think I would care as much....Seems almost like qhd screens didn't stay around as the top dog for to long. Guess the lower end devices will be going qhd while top end goes 720p to compete.
The point is well taken that there's no such thing as a future-proofe phone. I should have qualified that I am asking if this phone appears likely to enjoy EVO or HD2-like developer love. I was spoiled with cm-support on the G1 and I want to recapture those possbilities with my next phone.
I was on the phone with Sprint for an hour and a half talking about my upgrade status and they repeatedly told me it would expire on Dec 31, 2011. I guess I'll call again and ask again. I don't know what to trust anymore. If I get another year I'll be extatic.

The program itself ends 12/31/11 but you have until the end of next year to use your upgrade.
Just called Sprint to confirm my upgrade won't expire! Thanks so much for the heads-up, my XDA brothers XD

I had to fight Sprint to get my last upgrade but they relented and gave it to me so now it's either ET4G or Galaxy Nexus if or whenever they get it.

Add ICS and a 720P screen to our SGS2 and you have yourself a phone that is equal to or better then the GN. We will get ICS whether it be official or not, so that will really even the playing field. So our phone is future proof until you start seeing quad core phones come out and well as Sprint LTE phones. But I would say you are good for at least the next year to year and half with the SGS2.
When the specs for the SGS3 get dropped, I am betting that will be a game changer and Samsungs flagship phone, not the Nexus.

IMO, dual core SOCs and 1GB RAM are the major milestone for smartphones. Quad cores will improve benchmarks, but probably not much else. Cutting edge OS is what's important to me now, which the GN covers nicely

Not quite. We don't have NFC or a barometer, either. The lack of NFC means we can't use Google Wallet or Beam... ever, and the barometer means slower GPS locks and we can't use any other aps that take advantage of it.
I don't quite understand why Sprint had Samsung remove the NFC chip... it's the only GS2 variant that doesn't have one, and aside from LTE, that's the newest feature everyone is jumping on lately.
This phone will have a lot of life in it, but it's not future proof.
The nexus has a cheap pentile display. Go with the epic touch you won't regret it. And it has a sa+ display!

I really enjoyed the support out there for my EVO 4G, and was a little disappointed at the lack of options out there right now for my shiney new E4GT (not complaining, stating a fact, back off flamers)
However, read through the forums for the other variations of the SGS2 and you can see it's out there for them. I just think Sprints baby is a little late to the party, but is going to get it's fair share of cake. Read through some of the Developer posts and there is news popping up fairly regularly about test builds of CM7 and MIUI...
I am getting closer and closer to getting this. I just know a week after I do the galaxy nexus will be announced for sprint.

I'll be honest, this is my first android phone (epic touch 4g), but I have been tinkering with anything that draws power since I was a little guy ripping apart old stereo receivers and what not! Sure, something with some more bang is bound to come out in the next few months or so; but in my opinion, a device with the capabilities exhibited by this phone are not going to be overlooked anytime soon! Some people may dump the phone and grab whatever is better on the market at that time, but dev is not going to halt for this phone anytime soon as far as I can tell. Even before getting this phone I've done lots of research on android phones and spoken to friends that have owned such, and this is phone definitely marks a milestone in my opinion. Sure it has its bugs, I get LoS once a week or so; but despite its flaws (which will be resolved by the manufacturer or else!) it is a great phone and will serve any user well for YEARS! Hell, I had a Blackberry 8330 for a few years, wasn't anything special by any means at all but with some TLC and mods it was a great phone for as long as I had it. The ET4G should last a Looooooong time...
Edit: I also wanted to say, to those who were saying things about the Galaxy Nexus coming out for Sprint. Sure you may be able to the phone with Sprint in the very near future, but is it not quite similar to the ET4G? Really I guess it depends on preference and such. From what I've read and heard, though...the phones are not THAT much different so I guess whatever feel you like best is what you should get! Cheers!

Offered a 4 day old Nexus for £300

As the thread states my friend just got a Nexus on contract and is using it to pay off his O2 contract as he already has a sim free iPhone 4S.
I can sell my GS2 for around £200-230 so just need to pay the difference to get it up to £300
Played around with it a tiny bit and it looks ok but not really sold on it however I do love the pure google experience (previous nexus one owner)
Good deal or not?
Yeah! Honestly, I got this phone yesterday and you will NOT be disappointed. The screen, the smoothness of ICS, it's just a freaking monster man. And You're only going to be paying around £70-£100 for the phone so you can't go wrong!
Edit: Just read you already own a GS2. I would not be so sure then, it depends on how desperate you are to get ICS, because once that hits the GS2 the only thing that will be to the Nexus' advantage is the screen and dev support, which is more than enough for me to go for the Nexus lol.
Decisions decisions....
Get it! and sell it me small profit for yourself
It's really a beast! Some of my favorite things are the screen, led, and the software buttons they are geinus!
Honestly, if I were you, I would wait until next year Q2 2012 when it is rumoured that quad core phones that are coming out. I'm pretty sure there are already ICS roms for the Galaxy S2 and you're getting it next year anyway from Samsung. However, I haven't had any experience with the Nexus so I can only tell you from what I think, I haven't actually compared the fluidity and smoothness of both phones.
keep your gs2 and wait.for.ice.

£300 is not a great deal considering a brand new one sells for around £428.79. If you do not like it, you should be able to sell it for more than £300.

nice signature. lol.
It kind of depends. Since you already have a GS2 it's not really an upgrade but a lateral move from one phone to the next. The GN2 will definitely outlive the GS2 as far as official updates and dev support is concerned, but the GS2 already has plenty dev support right now and will likely have it for as long as you own/use the phone. The screen on the GN is way better, the processor is just as good, the GPU and camera on the GS2 are the only real advantages so it pretty much evens out in my book. It really is going to come down to personal preference. The reason I jumped to the nexus line was because I was a Vibrant owner and never saw a froyo update on my phone while Samsung promised and promised. The dev community and custom gone were the only things keeping me happy with my phone. About a week after the Nexus S was released I walked into a Best Buy and put my phone running a custom froyo rom with an overclocked processor up against a bone stock display model and the display model Nexus won every battle. I bought the phone a few days later and haven't looked back since. Now there are a few caveats to the story, one being that I had a variant of the GS and that Samsung had indeed finished the froyo update about two months before the release of the Nexus S (just not for the American variants) but at the end of the day, the Nexus S is going to receive an official update of ICS and the GS isn't despite them having nearly all the same hardware components. The devs are still there and they will give the phone a proper update but it would be easier with an official kernel to play with. Just my thoughts. Personally I'd go with the GN unless you plan on playing multiple high end games that require you to have a better GPU.

The stock google experience is swaying it for me right now and it looks like I will have to pay a minimum of £80 to £100 + selling my GS2.
Will see my mate on Thursday and take it from there and will let everyone know if I suddenly become a GN owner

Actually its a very very good deal. Its 429 + vat which is more like £520. Also considering its from his friend and not some random stranger he can be pretty sure there's not some weird fault with it or something dodgy. Its pretty close to having a brand new phone with £220 off
Personally for around £100 I would probably upgrade. I agree with other posts its more of a lateral move, but the SGS2 is soooo common now, especially in the UK, and its coming up to a year old soon. The Galaxy Nexus will stay 'new' for a while. Also remember the GN resolution is the native resolution for ICS and what it was designed for. Although other phones with lower resolutions will also get ICS i'm sure there'll be some compromises somewhere.
Anyway its all opinion, but for me i'm slightly for the GN. BTW I upgraded from a N1 to a Galaxy Nexus, and my only experience of a SGS2 is 5 minutes with my friends one at the pub.
Interesting as o2 would let me pay off my remaining 2 months of my contract so i could get the galaxy nexus earlier.
They told me they do not allow this anymore and for that they have lost a customer, they never even tried to do me a deal.
I pay £41 a month for unlimited everything on my new contract which would mean i will pay £984 over the 24 month contract.
Hes going to be well out of pocket once he pays off his contract is o2 let him.
Text my mate to say I am going for the GN so now it's just down to when I go and get some cash for my phone and when I get to see him next.
Good timing as well as he was considering selling it tomorrow!
I bought a galaxy nexus and returned to my s2...
Only the screen is better on this phone and the new os, everything else isnt worth spendig money on it...

It's costing my friend around £200 to pay off O2 and he managed to get the GN for FREE on 12 months at vodafone so he will actually make around £100 from this and will also be on a 12 month agreement not 18-24 months.
On o2 he pays £37-38 a month and Vodafone will be £41 a month so makes sense really for him to sell it and for me to buy it lol

It would be really stupid for google to do that because it would completely ruin the nexus name as being the bar setter for that OS which is what google has always referred the nexus devices to be, also sprint confirmed (I think, correct me if I'm wrong) that it will ship with a 1.2 Ghz processor

This just isn't Google's way. They release a Nexus 1 time per year. They wouldn't trump their Nexus with a tiny spec bump 4 months later.

Its not a fake photo. It may however be a spoofed. The Sprint GN will probably be released around June, a half year+ after the original release. I think its more stupid of Google to release a half year old phone to such a supportive carrier (only carrier with GV integration and official Google Wallet) than to refresh the specs and piss off some users. You would have had it for months, and it will likely be unavailable on other carriers anyway.

Good lord, the intarwebs are ablaze with this story already:
http://www.google.com/search?q=galaxy nexus sgx544
I don't know what to think about this one. On one hand, it seems like plenty of sites and people have been complaining that the hardware specs should have been buffed a little bit, so I could see it happening. On the other hand, this seems like an incredibly unpopular thing for Google to do.
I was about to pull the trigger on buying one tomorrow, now I think I'll hold off until the dust settles on this story.
Additionally, it would be pretty f'd up for them to release a clearly superior model on Sprint and give the finger to the Verizon and GSM unlocked versions.
My opinion: Not going to happen.
Galaxy Nexus is fast enough (and will get faster with Android 4.1, 4.2, 4.5 ...) and there's no reason for Google to do this at all.

Same goes for the Nexus S on AT&T. There's no reason for Google to fragment their Nexus line, and piss off their loyal customers. Google really has no real gain in doing a refresh, so why would they. They chose these specs to offer a specific experience with their devices, not be apart of some spec war. The most Sprint customers would get differently is a slightly bigger battery; I don't expect anymore than that.

Everyone is saying June because that's right about the time Sprint's LTE network goes live. It could happen in May, but June is the more likely target date for Sprint's first LTE device.
Let's please stop with the multiple threads omg!
It's not Google that does this. This is entirely Samsung's doing and Samsung own a lot of rights for this phone. Samsung got their name on the phone, they got it called 'Galaxy Nexus' instead of 'Nexus Prime' that was the original name and it made some deals with some carriers for customized versions of Galaxy Nexus.
Sadly it is out of Google's hands.

Google cutting out the Middleman (Wireless Carriers)

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052702304371504577406511931421118.html
A great read. Perhaps this is Google trying to take back the reigns of the Android OS and preventing wireless carriers from garnering enough power over the device and the way they intend to run the OS on such devices. What is fairly interesting at the moment is that Jelly Bean is already being talked about for a November release and our device has yet to receive ICS. With that said, I can see Google trying to put a stop to this pattern of diligent practice. It is fairly obvious that Google is sick and tired of seeing good devices wait for updates because carriers are too busy cooking up an OS that does fairly well without the bloat they put in it. That is their clear goal....to cut out the middle man and keep android os pure as it was intended to be in the first place....So to do that that they are now going to release the new versions of it's Android OS to different devices makers in a bid to lower the carriers power by encouraging device makers to sell their phones directly to consumers rather than through a carrier. I think this is great news because it prevents a device much like our beloved GS2 from being left behind and allows future devices to be on par and updated much quicker without the need of a carrier approval. Definitely the right way to go Google. This is a huge step forward. Good Job Google INC.
This is great news. Google should have done this a long time ago.
This should have started at 2.1!!!

This is what I've been saying they need to do for a long time. You can be damn sure if they release 10 devices from the cutting edge to budget phones, this "nexus series" will sell like hotcakes once people figure out these phones are so much better. Maybe then the manufacturers and carriers when they start losing money on phone sales (and 2yr lock-ins) will figure out they need to STOP ****ING TAKING A BLOAT DUMP ON ANDROID PHONES...
If they price it like the Galaxy Nexus they just started selling (which is only $150ish more than our phone, the current top-of-the-line on T-mo) and word gets out on how much you can save by not being chained up for two years to a data plan you may not neccisarily want...we might actually have something worth pitting against apple sales-wise.
I can't wait!

http://www.afterdawn.com/news/article.cfm/2012/09/16/source_samsung_galaxy_s_iv_coming_in_february
Angered by the patent case that went against them in the U.S. against Apple, Samsung is said to be looking to make a strong statement by releasing the Galaxy S IV at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) event in February in Spain.
A Samsung official, which asked to remain anonymous said frankly "Samsung is ready to unveil the next Galaxy smartphone, the Galaxy S4, at early next year's mobile world congress (MWC) in the Spanish city of Barcelona."
The device is expected to hit consumer's hands by mid-March at the latest.
In the device, Samsung will use a 5-inch, flexible OLED display, the company's own Exynos processors and quad-core chips.

So it turned out to be a rumor and the only part of the rumor that you count on to live on is expecting a galaxy S4 in 2013 (following previous release patterns) and maybe the 5" screen. At the same time I will say having Samsung " deny " the rumors at this time means sqwat. I don't know any company that confirms rumors so far in advanced.
**2nd edit**
So the source was very close to the release date as the device launched in April not March.
God. I just got this damn phone...

Thank gawd for Swappa!
I think it would be wise for samsung to wait till Q3 of 2013 to announce the galaxy s4.
They need to maximize s3 sales before announcing their next flagship.
wtttfffff :crying: 2 year contract should have waited
They come out with these phones to fast it is hard to keep up when one always wants newer and greater. Personally I really love the larger sized phones they fit my hands better. Well in a few months we should find out if the rumor is true.
I wonder what new innovation this phone will have. Let's face it Apple ain't innovating anything these days. But I don't don't like how they're making the display bigger anything 5 inches or bigger is to big imo.
That is highly doubtful. The iphone 5 is out and it wasnt impressive at all. It simply gave samsung the chance to sue apple for lte stuff used in the i- phone and magbe panorama mode and other stuff.

No they don't, they've already sold more than 20 million units.
I can see it being announced at MWC but I would highly doubt it would be available much sooner than the May/June like the S3. Also, no UMS wasn't a Samsung move it was a Google move.

No UMS is Samsung. Anyone who tells you otherwise doesn't know what they're talking about. Samsung CLEARY has the ability to turn on UMS as they have done with their Note. I know for a fact because I have the T-Mobile Note that came with ICS stock out of the box and it has UMS in addition to MTP.
Its beautiful man, it works either way and both drives are available at any given time.
Anyways I hope Samsung turns the feature back on in the S IV.
IF you want to know what Google actually said about UMS look here:
http://www.t3.com/news/galaxy-nexus-usb-mass-storage-debate-google-says-no
Personally (and I'm not directing this at you-general statement) I'm tired of hearing people parrot (paraprhasing) "Google doesn't support UMS". Maybe this will wake people up and demand the manufacture (Samsung) to get its act together and add the feature back.
So if you buy a Nexus then you should not expect UMS. If you buy another device with a physical SD card and/or an additional slot then you should expect UMS.
Dying to have note 2 in my hands but now i'll wait and go for samsung galaxy s 4 ...
Leaking this rumor was most likely calculated by Samsung to get some attention away from Apple with the iphone around the corner.

Perhaps samsung is using the tick tock cycle s1(somewhere in may I suppose) s2(feb) s3(may) s4(feb) otherwise it's too early to release another product this magnitude

Why is everybody so surprised? It's a yearly deal anyway... Plus whenever you buy one new phone the next new / better phone comes out pretty much right away... iPhone anyone??! That's how money is made... Samsung is not gonna bank on just one flagship device and a bunch of "knock offs" they gotta think ahead too. And we are just like iPhone users, we will buy the next big thing...
I'm sure that most of us keep our phones in very good condition and could easily sell them around that time for a decent price in order to pick up the S4 if "needed".

I keep my phones in great condition, but generally don't sell them, but give them away to family members, mostly under our family plan.
I have one upgrade remaining on my plan. Gonna see where this one ends up with the S4, and still interested in BB10.. I know call me crazy!
Honestly how much more can they pack in these things?
Also 5" is getting to big. Reason why I never went with the Note. Way to big foe a phone IMO.

I don't think I want a 5 incher. They are getting a little ridiculous. Leave the big screens to the note

I wont mind a 5" Screen as long as the Body does NOT get larger than the S3...
We all know its hard to stay on top of the latest Tech.
I do love that all my Iphone Friends are now Considering the s3 after the newest Iphone 5 "innovation"...
Definitely fake. Samsung does NOT release there big products at something like MWC.
