New maintenance FW upgrade in testing - EK02 now - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Looks like Samsprint is working on the next upgrade finally.... I had been looking for the .rdf files nearly daily since release and I knew Samsprint reps were full of **** when they said it would be released soon.
http://device.sprintpcs.com/Samsung/SPH-D710/EJ28.rdf
Based on OG Epic experience, I would expect at least 3-4 more internal testing releases before OTA release. I will plan to reach out to Samfirmware to see if we can get a leak. If anyone has a premium upgrade /w samfirmware, feel free to ask direct for us since I don't
For those who don't know the releases are based on letter for the month, J for October since J is 10th letter in alphabet, and the 28 is the day. So this is the first testing firmware so far and it was made October 28th.
Edit: ej31 now....

The EG30 rdf shows 2.3.3 also. It is just a mistake in the RDF, even the one your phone is currently using.

They are just files made used somewhere for sprint whenever a new firmware is created. Most the time they are internal testing so all it shows really is they are at least making updates which before now they weren't.

Another OTA Update (next week)

Not sure if this was already posted, at least I didn't see it. Anyway, if it was, my apologies. Just wanted to pass along.
According to the Sprint website
12/15 update - for those devices where the update has started but did not complete successfully, there will be a fix available soon. The target is next week, but nothing 'official yet'. I don't have information on whether it will be a new OTA push or available only via the Service Centers, but will post an update as soon as I learn more.
It seems like there were more than a few issues on the whole EG30/31 thing so they need to do it again, lol. I'm just wondering if now they will take the opportunity to just combine it with the EL13 update.
What?!?!? A Samsung update that just causes more issues? Nooooo....

I was wondering the same. Maybe a OTA that has CIQ stripped out. Sprint is obviously trying to save face right now. They are trying to keep us at bay. Look what happened once we started bombing everyone with CIQ info.

Samsung literally has no say in when the Epic 4G Touch ICS rom is ready. By the release quality builds are done Sprint that still has to okay it. Same with the other US carriers but atleast the GSM variants here dont require as much work. AT&T still has a pretty rigorous process on approving updates last i read.

+1 for this, sprint understands its consumers and knows updates just scare and confuse us... its like unlimited data with them, they call it unlimited because if you, like me, live in a market without 4g it would take several months if not years to use 5gigs of data with their current 3g "speeds"... sprint is the best!

If you're waiting for a total bug-free release then you'll be waiting until the end of time. They will release it when they are ready and, steady yourselves, it will probably have a few remaining, minor issues which they will attempt to fix with a patch.
Seriously it makes me chuckle to see people rubbing their palms together waiting for the perfect, bug-free release of any software.
Here's hoping it comes out soon - but based on the release date and usual one month delay we're still about 1-2 weeks away if they use FF18 as the OTA.

Once ICS source is released JB will be pretty easy to port to the et4g especially once JB source is out, they run pretty much the same kernel only major changes were to framework and resources and some lib and bin files, nothing to the extreme like going from GB to ICS
Edit: by JB source I mean rom source from Google not kernel source, just thought I should clarify that after re-reading what I said

Honestly, I remember back in the Epic 4G days when Samsung had the reputation that they did not support their devices, but it appears they've changed their attitude and now they're releasing updates like mad, even more efficiently than HTC is (at least for CDMA-based devices.)
If this is true, then the Samsung devs in charge of CDMA development will start porting it over to our devices. Perhaps we'll see RDFs in the next few days?

I had an Epic as well and it seemed like Samfirmware was our only hope. I share your sentiments and look forward to any changes Samsung is willing to make with regards to device updates.
I'm from the OG Epic as well (from its release to the s3 release); It is really refreshing to see them pushing out the updates for this phone!!
I too am from the OG Epic. People continuously blamed Samsung for the slow updates for it when in reality rdfs were being generated and test releases sent to Sprint almost daily and within weeks of the international update. I think the less intrusive touchwiz allows for faster updating. So hopefully we will see some rdfs reported soon.

Virgin Mobile US Jelly Bean official update, GB28.

Have any VM US users installed the official update from Kies for their "Samsung Galaxy II" (Epic 4G Touch) yet? Have you had any problems? Has anything improved? The two problems that I read about so far are:
- Google Now closing quickly. Seems there is a fix by clearing cache or reset.
- BT not stable for some audio devices.
How is your battery life, has it improved, I read one report on the Sprint device that it did.
Please let me know of your experience with the official VM Jelly Bean, id GB28 US update from Kies, good or bad, thanks.

Hi wizard, this thread is about the official Samsung update via Kies. I am not sure about VM-specific ROMs as I am not rooted.
Currently on stock ICS, Virgin has visual voice mail but it only seems to work sometimes for me. I am not sure how it will work on JB or if it will even exist on the official JB. I am pretty sure some vendor-specific features like Sprint ID and Virgin Mobile ID are lost in the official JB release.

I guess I miss understood the thread. The title implied there was a E4gT with a Virgin Mobile GB28 based rom in existence.
I am looking for a phone.apk, that used the non-visual voice mail system, which is comparable with the E4GT. I was hopping I might be able to get it from this rom.
