ICS for Galaxy S II Official! - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

https://www.facebook.com/notes/sams...dwich-upgrade-for-galaxy-s-ii/390405030989148
Doesn't state our phone in it, but by the quality of FC07, I can imagine it may be.

Fc07 stop has a few bugs that do honestly need to be worked out. And no this is for the international SGS2 only.

I hope they fix the GPS only working if you have it on when you flash or they are going to have to deal with a lot of angry grandmothers.

Samsung literally has no say in when the Epic 4G Touch ICS rom is ready. By the release quality builds are done Sprint that still has to okay it. Same with the other US carriers but atleast the GSM variants here dont require as much work. AT&T still has a pretty rigorous process on approving updates last i read.

New maintenance FW upgrade in testing - EK02 now

Looks like Samsprint is working on the next upgrade finally.... I had been looking for the .rdf files nearly daily since release and I knew Samsprint reps were full of **** when they said it would be released soon.
http://device.sprintpcs.com/Samsung/SPH-D710/EJ28.rdf
Based on OG Epic experience, I would expect at least 3-4 more internal testing releases before OTA release. I will plan to reach out to Samfirmware to see if we can get a leak. If anyone has a premium upgrade /w samfirmware, feel free to ask direct for us since I don't
For those who don't know the releases are based on letter for the month, J for October since J is 10th letter in alphabet, and the 28 is the day. So this is the first testing firmware so far and it was made October 28th.
Edit: ej31 now....

They are just files made used somewhere for sprint whenever a new firmware is created. Most the time they are internal testing so all it shows really is they are at least making updates which before now they weren't.

so it's going to be a long painful wait before being able to enjoy ICS fully, even if it becomes available for our T989

the current hardware are perfectly fine, just the programmers needs to get their things together and make sure their software are ICS compatible
There's quite a few devices with cm9 alphas already. We wont be waiting to long to see it on our phone.

Even the g2x has a alpha version of cm9 working since Thanksgiving night so I'm sure this phone will have it soon. It would be cool if/when it becomes possible for our phones to multi-boot or at least a savvy developer creates a VMWare-esque app or any other way for any other way for us to use multiple ROMs simultaneously without the need to backup, wipe, flash, repeat for each different ROM we wanna try. For example, this would be useful for us to try out a ROM that's not daily driver-ready without wiping our daily driver. Just a thought...

seeing as the international is a gsm phone, wouldn't the kernel sources be sufficiently different from our phone so as not to work? Never messed with kernels before, so sorry if it's a stupid question.

Kernel sources for everything not related to ril would help us, so Wifi, BT, GPS, etc. Since we already have 3g and SMS working, my guess is that the kernel source for the int'l SGS II could round out what we need to get an acceptable working ICS ROM.

People have been having issues booting back to stock or anything else for that matter. May I ask have you nandroid back to anything since booting it up? Also does your pc recognize your phone?
I wouldn't expect Sprint to have a Release of ICS for the Epic Touch until late Summer or early Fall 2012. By then, the phone will be almost 1 year old and Sprint will start saying the ET4G is "End of Life" and stop supporting it altogether.

Fortunately for us, we don't have to rely on Sprint, as Samsung will release the kernel sources we need to get where we need to go. Also, the 4.0 iteration we would get from Sprint would be TouchWiz'd up, which for me I could care less about. We will have daily-driver quality CM9 and AOSP ICS well before we see an official ICS-based ROM released by Sprint.
And before you ask, yes I have been with Sprint for a long time, and yes I came from the OG Epic 4g.

The people doing it are Odin a tar and its bricking them because they don't know what they are doing....you can use the tar file with mobile Odin pro and retain root which will allow you to use mobile Odin to flash kernel with cwm to get out of the brick but without root can't use mobile Odin...you can take the tar apart and make a ROM out of it...as long as the bootloader and radio is not in there you should be good

+1 for this, sprint understands its consumers and knows updates just scare and confuse us... its like unlimited data with them, they call it unlimited because if you, like me, live in a market without 4g it would take several months if not years to use 5gigs of data with their current 3g "speeds"... sprint is the best!

If you're waiting for a total bug-free release then you'll be waiting until the end of time. They will release it when they are ready and, steady yourselves, it will probably have a few remaining, minor issues which they will attempt to fix with a patch.
Seriously it makes me chuckle to see people rubbing their palms together waiting for the perfect, bug-free release of any software.
Here's hoping it comes out soon - but based on the release date and usual one month delay we're still about 1-2 weeks away if they use FF18 as the OTA.

Once ICS source is released JB will be pretty easy to port to the et4g especially once JB source is out, they run pretty much the same kernel only major changes were to framework and resources and some lib and bin files, nothing to the extreme like going from GB to ICS

Sorry to say this but I'm running my super nova rom and haven't had any problems what so ever. Nothing looked what you're describing at all. Any chance the phone is having a hardware factory issue since so many others have experienced the same thing?
No its definitely an ICS issue on certain devices. As it doesn't happen on Gingerbread roms based at all. Ive noticed certain users complain about the issue, maybe its different hardware models? Who said anything about insurance? I'm very good friends with the store manager. He always performs a device exchange as long as it hasnt had water damage. And no, I'm pretty sure the issues I'm having are real as pressing the power button and having the unlock screen process done but captive buttons not work for 5 seconds or more, isn't a bad flash. Even on shubs one click to FF18.
Btw check list done.... settings are always left stock. Phone seems okay unless I can surgicly open it to check on internals lol... ! Yes I'm okay myself.other than my messed up fist from a drunk fist fight.
I've had the same issue with most ICS E4GT roms, and doubt it is anything user related. Don't pay attention to the trolls. I've fully wiped my phone and it made no difference. Hopefully someone can figure it out. It's pretty annoying having to turn the screen on a off twice to get the capacitive buttons working.

You think they'll push an update to the phone to fix the issue?

I've had the same issue with most ICS E4GT roms, and doubt it is anything user related. Don't pay attention to the trolls. I've fully wiped my phone and it made no difference. Hopefully someone can figure it out. It's pretty annoying having to turn the screen on a off twice to get the capacitive buttons working.

Thank you, glad I'm not the only one who has this issue. The screen on and off is so far the only solution to this so far...

You can if you use the latest agat kernel built from source but remember not all developers have built in the new safe kernel! So you would always have to odin the kernel if it isnt baked with the ROM.
For reference, here is the link to source built kernel.

Ok heres my input. I believe that its a combination of software and hardware. Remember response time of soft buttons depends on how stable the rom is and also whats running at the time they where pressed. Ok say like you have a few apps it the background running and you turn off your screen. Once the screen come on the buttons may take a second to come on because the screen has more of a priorty than the soft button. Its all in how you look at it. And with apps running it slows that process down greatly because a combination of the proccesor and ram being used. Remember not notice but our soft buttons have a back light and they are press sensitive. So with them working together plus all the other stuff i explained timing would be off. But think about it. Lol is it really a depressing ordeal lol. I actually witness it and continue on without even thinking about it. Sorry for rambling lol
