So i managed to root my phone, flashed the latest Leedroid rom and use A2SD+ , to overcome the storage issues.
All is working fine, i can see the ext partition and that the partition is actually in use.
What i understood is that you should not move apps from phone to SD anymore, because A2SD+ is automatically installing them to the EXT partition.
However i notice some apps still take up quite a lot of phone storage.
When i move them to SD, the free space increases a lot
For instance i moved Google Earth and that got me an extra 23 mb of free phone memory. Also moving Rock Player freed up some space.
So my question is:
should i leave app on the phone at al times, as people are suggesting, or can i move apps to SD which seems to clear some phone memory?
If it frees up more space, move them to sd.. I use titanium to do that as i've heard it works better than the stock way.
Swyped from my CM7.1 Desire using XDA Premium App
Well a2sd+ moves that apk and the dalvik cache to ext. "move to sd" moves the apk and the libs to fat.
Using either solution over the other will not be as effective as using both. However bear in mind that it becomes messy when you are splitting the components of an application over 3 partitions.
My advice if you're struggling for space, do it with the odd application. Don't make a habit of it

Hi,
I have rooted froyo 2.2 with App2Sd enabled and always move everything that possible to the Sd card. In spite of that, I have only 20Mb free space left (I use Android System info app). I have 8GB 6class samsung Sd card and did the partitions as said in guides.
how can I have more space to install more apps or I stuck and just have to decide what important and what not ?
Thanks.
what App2SD?
The native Froyo one or the App2SD+?
The native Froyo one does not move the whole app. Just take a look in the app listing and you'll see how much space it occupies on the internal RAM and how much it occupies on the SD card. You also can't move every app, e.g. no widgets.
The App2SD+ moves all apps to the SD-Card, including cache. But even then the more apps you install the less internal memory is available. That's because of a process I don't exactly remember Some apps unpack stuff which gets copied to the internal data partition, and I don't talk about the cache. Don't know for sure, but you should find it with the search.
When I check the app2sd ver. It doesn't shows the. + Symbol so I guess that it is a regular one. Can you give me a link to the plus version?

?? how shall you check the App2SD Version. You either use the + one, by using an EXT2/3 partition and a proper ROM and not moving the apps manually, it gets done automatically, or you use the Froyo one, by moving each app manually to the SD card in the app settings.
To get APPS2SD+ you need a properly set EXT2/3 partition and then flash a ROM supporting it (like Leedroid if you like a Sense ROM, or DeFrost, Opendesire if you like an AOSP ROM), that's it.
I have just seven apps on my desire and it say I don't have more place , what else more than app are on entire disk which I can clean for I get more place . I have desire rooted with 16gb SD card

Are you using A2SD+? Or this is the internal memory?
I have problem with internal memory
What are more things are on the memory I can delete
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Unless you are S-OFF, you can only delete the things you've installed by yourself or move them to the SD Card (Non_A2SD+).
What do u mean s off
I mean the apps is about 50 mb what happened with 200 mb

if anyone can help me pls?
I´m not very high
THANK U
Probably cache & Other non-app related stuff.
Also, if you don't have A2SD+ (not App2SD), then some applications will be on Internal memory even after moved to the SD card.

I am not an android expert, but you do need app2sd or data2sd to fix this.
Any 3rd party rom with those X2sd supported can let you extend your limited phone storage. I don't know the android system file structure at all but here is the general idea.
i. App2sd
This will install the apps (most of them) on your sd card, but the data, I think, still remains on your phone internal storage. Your system should be very fast as normal even with low class sd card (most of the time I think :-0 ).
ii. Data2sd
This is a little bit tricky, it requires you to format your sd card and make use of the sd card instead of your internal phone storage for the operating system. You generally get an unlimited store, it depends on how much memory you allocated for the system, also you need a higher class sd card as better.
iii. Data2sd mixed mode
This is the best solution for me . it moves almost all to the sd card but some part of the system with more i/o on the phone internal storage (actually symlinks point back to the device on sd card). This will make the system fast (faster than pure data2sd), extended the phone storage a lot, but still limited to the phone internal storage (better than app2sd though)
Again, this is just my understanding. I haven't looked into Android in depth yet, but I will one day I have enough time
You can found the ROMs and almost everything you need from here:

Really appreciated the people who did the job there.
I have app 2 SD
I fixed partition ex2 to move the apps but I can't see ext2 partition
Must I have app2sd+ , where can download it.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Create at least EXT3 with more than 512 MB.
You don't have the option anywhere, to move to the EXT partition, it is automatically done by the script.
To see your EXT partition you must use TI Backup (Shows only as A2SD+) or GParted.
Ok not ext2
I have tried with ex2 it doesn't work , should I have swipe ?
I will do it with Linux
Which Rom do u think is best now ?
Where can I download a2sd+ ?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
A2SD+ is not a program, it is a script. Included in the ROMs.
Look around in the Desire Android Developement Section for ROMs and pick one you like. Most of them have A2SD+.
Do some reading... rooting guides include all the information you need
I will format the SD and try to found some Rom with a2sd+
Why desire have very little memory it should be 2 or 4 gb
Thank everyone and I will be back with feedbAck

This has always been a problem with my desire until i found out about AlphaRev. Now i've got 166MB free internal space. My suggestion is to install AlphaRev and modify the partition tables as listed in the tutorial on alpharev.nl. I would have posted a link but i can't post links yet.
i downloaded RCMIxHD_v3.4_ROT_D2EXT_RC1 and made a parttion ext3 and now work perfect.
Thank u everybody
I have a rooted Incredible with CM7 installed, and I'm having some trouble with the memory.
I have an 8 GB SD card and am currently using about 4 GB of it for backups, music, etc. However, when reading the system data on the phone, it doesnt even use one percent of the internal memory, and I keep getting a low space notification for installing apps.
Is there a way I can partition the internal memory to allocate more space for installing apps?
I don't think you can repartition internal memory, anyone feel free to jump in if I am wrong. Might want to check out S2E in the market, just have to partition your sd card w/ an ext partition & your phone sees it as an extension of your internal memory. Only works w/ CM7 btw.
Course, this doesn't fix the fact that you are showing only 1% usage & can't install anything... what numbers you get in settings when you look at installed apps? Amt used, amt available...

I really haven't been able to figure out how exactly link2sd works!
I have created a ext2 partition n link2sd detects it n I am able to link apps too but when I install apps I run outa storage even though my apps get auto linked?
What am I doing wrong?

If you are doing batch installs, you need to take breaks. Link2SD doesn't link everything automatically.Especially large apps, they go straight to App2SD method. Open link2SD and link all apps that are on SD card and the apps that are on internal. This should free up space.
However, be careful. You need to be patient, because I've messed it up loads of times. It takes quite long sometimes and phone can give low memory warnings during&after linking apps. Too much killing/rebooting can mess it up.

But when I install an app it says that it has been linked and when I go to the manage applications on my phone the app is still taking memory but when I check with the storage info in link2sd my ext4 is getting used up too! And Even shows that my app, dalvik cache and the lib files have been linked!

Don't forget that even if all files are on the card, when you start applications they use internal storage like RAM on a PC. The cache of some apps no matter what will always be in that area. That's why I clean cache and other stuff frequently. I use History Eraser for that and it's great. Also sometimes we need to restart the phone to release internal storage. My procedure is to restart and then run History Eraser. You may be surprised with the amout of memory reclaimed.
Make a simple test with History Eraser installed but without actually cleaning anything: check free ram on History Eraser, open Android Market and browse a bit there. Just navigate through categories and leave. Now open H. E. again. See how much ram was "eaten"? Now clear cache and other logs you don't need. How much memory was released?

Try this tutorial it worked like a charm for me: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21119907#post21119907
One small thing I have to add. Even if you link an app, the Android App manager will show the application size as the original install. As far as the OS knows, the apps all reside on the data partition. But they won't take up space and the free space displayed does not depend on this either.
However, the app data and cache still remain on the phone's internal memory. If you want everything to be moved to SD, you can try DATA2SD but the general opinion is that it's better to keep the data on the data partition itself as it will be faster. That and DATA2SD is slightly more difficult to install. So people generally prefer Link2SD.
Link2SD also gives you the option of which apps to move and which not to for performance.

I would say that DATA2SD is much demanding in terms of the memory card you have. As I wrote in other threads, I tried it with the original 2GB card that came with my phone, a 4GB Sandisk Class 4 and 8GB Kingston Class 4. It didn't work with any of those.
Now I have a Samsung "Essentials" 16GB Class 6 and it works perfectly.
Besides this after flashing DATA2SD and restarting, I recommend that people wait at least one minute before typing in the PIN. It takes time for DATA2SD to find your dedicated partition and make the necessary adjustments.
A sort of conclusion:
The first boot after flashing the rom should be only for making initial setup and turning of Fast Boot. After that users should flash DATA2SD immediately, reboot and wait the above mentioned time before trying to use the phone. This is crucial for the success (or not) of it's implementation.
Note: I used Link2SD before and it's also a great solution. It's also a bit picky on the memory cards but not as much as DATA2SD. Like you say, cache and application data will still go to internal storage which is extremely limited.
That's why IMHO, DATA2SD can be a better solution if you use a good quality and fast memory card.
I'm using Link2SD and even though there are Gigabytes of free space, I can't move a 6MB app from the SD card to the SD card's second partition because of apparently lack of free space:
"pkg: /mnt/asec/appnamehere/pkg.apk Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_INSUFFICIENT_STORAGE]"
The internal memory has about 50MB free, SD card has 7GB free and the second partition has 800MB free..
In fact, I can't move any apps to or from the SD card or internal memory either. However, I can unlink apps back to the internal memory without issues.
I'm using ICS for HTC Desire 0.5.1, default HBoot, Clockworkmod Recovery Touch 5.8.0.2, aGPS and default homescreen with no scripts.
Can anyone help please?
Thanks.
Did you try to restart your device? Do the same process again...
