Help with upgrading Cyanogenmod 7.1 (Xperia Arc) - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Pardon my "N00byness"
So i have FXP040 of Cm7.1 on my xperia arc, now that FXP044 has been released, it requires some new type of Semc (4.0.2.A.0.42 rom) do i have to remove cyanogenmod7 and install the new Semc, to then install the new version of Cyanogenmod?
I had an older Semc before i installed Cyanogenmod. Or what do i do?
Please leave instructions, if possible.
Thank you

Just flash the 42 Stock ROM with the Flashtool, then FXP44.

flashtool to flash .42, then fast boot flash boot.img, @cwm install update.zip file.
i have installed the 44 n everything works smoothly, vibrate, wifi works, except the ringer mode in status bar desnt work properly, need to change to vibrate at lock screen. do anyone have the same problem , or only me ?

Hi,
There is such post in Dev forum, but it was never answered... I have ArcS with FXP45 on it, but didn't flash SEMC 4.0.2.A.0.42 rom before flashing this one... Now I have high battery drain and found that this SEMC version fixes it. Can I now flash it and then go back to CM7?
Thanks,
Michal
yes you can
you can flash .42 and then flash cm7
thanks - that worked well

CyanogenMod not working on Xperia Arc

Hi!
I got a new SE Xperia Arc LT15i a couple of days ago and everything was OK until I decided to install CyanogenMod. I ended up with my phone not working.
I followed the instructions on the official Sony Developers website to unlock the boot loader, then followed the instructions on the CyanogenMod Wiki but when I reboot from the recovery to CyanogenMod, the blue android startup screen keeps repeating forever. I restored the original SE data I previously backed up using the same recovery but the SE boot screen hangs up and I'm unable to use my phone now.
Could anyone please help me? Did I do something wrong?
Now if I want to get back to the stock firmware, where can I get the firmware from? (I need one that supports Arabic language). And how can I flash it? Is flashtool needed?
Here's more info about the device:
* preloaded with some French apps (CANAL+, Warner Bros...) & music although I'm not in France.
* updated to the latest build OTA
Restoring a stock SE backup from a cyanogenmod installation just won't work. 2 options you got is
1. Flash the kernel first with a stock w/ recovery (DoomKernel has one)
or
2. Flash the stock rom of your Xperia Arc by either downloading firmware file and reflashing it using flashtool or reupdate your phone using SEUS/PC Companion.

Im Confused Xperia Arc S my Device HELP!

okay i just got my xperia arc s last few days and its perfomance wasnt really good sometimes laggy im on ics 4.0.4 build number 4.1.B.0.587 okay, now i wanna install a cyanogen mod based custom rom i dont know how to.. whats with the fast boot or bootloader.. help me anyone
If you want to install custom rom, you have to unlock bootloader and root the mobile.
Unlocking bootloader will void the warranty.
Steps to be followed to install custom ROM.
Warning - It clears all the user data (msgs, contacts, etc.,). Please take backup.
1. Unlock Bootlaoder.
2. Root mobile.
3. Download fastboot and flashtool and install flashtool.
4. Install requires baseband using flashtool.
5. Download cyanogen mod.
6. Flash the kernel using fastboot.
7. Flash the ROM using CWM.
If anything goes wrong you should download the Generic ROM (.ftf) and flash the ROM using flashtool.
Search in this ROM for each step. Then you will get all the details.
Hit "Thanks" if anyone helped you. :good:

Remove and insert battery... Turn on...as soon as you see logo start pressing vol down button... That will take you to recovery... From there flash rom...
Sent from my Xperia Neo V using xda app-developers app
It seems half of the problem has been solved
I downloaded LT18i_4.1.B.0.587.ftf sized 373.97Mb and I flash it ...
now I have (Android version : 4.0.4 / kernel version : 2.6.32.9-perf / Build number : 4.1.B.0.587)
and the root has been removed and I also can't access recovery mode
but I didn't like the version because it is slow and the Wi-Fi network disconnects a lot
I want a clean Rom/Kernel/recovery for Xperia arc s (I prefer Performance and extended battery life)
I want the easiest way because I don't want to fall in mistakes again
Thx ...

Hi, noob here, first post on xda, hope this helps
i had the same problem, trying to intall superjellybean 6 and fusion 5.4 kernel from the rom thread on my unlocked BL rooted ArcS with XperiaUltimateHD and Lupus kernel. Got stuck on fusion kernel logo after flashing it following the guide in superjellybean thread. I think the problem come from flashing a JB kernel on a ICS rom.
Mine is working now (notice that is unlocked BL), this is what i've done
flash via flashtool the LT18i_4.1.B.0.587_(1254-2184), then oneclick root the device again using Eroot_v1.3.4 from this thread.
using flashtool flash a lupus ics kernel for having the CWM back.
reboot to CWM recovery and do the wipes and flash the zips Superjellybean 6 and google apps, on the ics kernel. the device still won't boot.
from flashtool reboot to fastboot mode and flash a JB kernel (i used Lupus jb).
reboot and good luck

[Q] Arc S not booting after flashing new ROM

Hello
As an initial note, I am not at all a techie guy. But I wanted to load Jelly Bean on to my Xperia Arc S. So I tried the following which I believe I should not have tried.
1. Rooted the device using ERoot 1.2
2.Unloaked the bootloader by following the steps described in sony website
3. Tried to flash Kernel using flashtool (latest from flashtool website) but was unsuccessful. It always says you need to root the device to flash in the activity log. But when I come out of fastboot mode, the flash tool always says the deice connected and it says the devise is rooted. But it never permits to flash the kernel in fastboot mode. I tried with different kernels, but unsuccessful.
4. So out of curiosity, I just decided to proceed with installation of jelly bean based on cynagenmod 10. So downloaded the Jelly bean ROM & doodle apps and copied to sd card.
5. I installed the CWM using x tool from play store.
6. opened the recovery mode and deleted all cache and other thing as per a video in you tube. Then proceeded with the installation of Jelly Bean and google apps. Installation was successful.
7. But when I restarted the phone, it just shows sony logo and hangs. It never starts.
8. After this I tried to flash a kernel again, it still says the devise is not rooted.
9. After reading few forum threads I decided to relock the bootloader and use pc companion to reload ICS or GB. I flashed a bootloader locker ftf file and was successful.
Now my phone is still showing only sony logo while boots and nothing. The PC companion is not detecting. Am stuck now. I don't know what to do. Please help. I donno if I did something wrong and l will have to discard my phone.
It's not the end of the world.

"Device must be rooted" error means bootloader is not unlocked. Check over, if you unlocked it properly, got all the codes correct etc.

There is no need for that. Custom kernels include Recovery already.

The issue there, is that this ROM and kernel do not work together in combination. ICS kernel must go with ICS ROM, GB with GB etc. Kernel was not installed, thereby you were with JB ROM, but ICS kernel (Sony logo).

Locking bootloader didn't change anything. You have to restore your phone to full stock ICS with Flashtool. Download complete ICS firmware FTF file and flash it with Flashtool.

Hey, Thanks for the reply.
I understand I need to restore ICS and ICS kernel completely. But for some reason I cant flash using the flash tool as it says the device is not rooted. But honestly I have rooted the device using ERoot and have unlocked the bootloader. I believe that is the reason why I was able to install the JB ROM.
Now I have 2 problem in front of me.
1. I cant flash as it says the device is not rooted
2. I have relocked the bootloader
what's next??
Flashtool does not need root or anything to flash ICS. You are doing something wrong then.
You have to flash whole FTF file in Flashmode. If you occur any error messages, post them here.
i had the same issue
