Hello,
I'm using the MIUI XJ D2EXT ROM, and bought a new sd card (16gb, class 10).
I formatted it, a 1gb ext4 partition, a 300mo ext4 partition and the rest as a fat32 partition.
I copypasted the content of my fat32 partition from my old sd card to the new, and did a nandroid backup of the rest. I transferred the new MIUI XJ rom on my new sd card as well (I'm changing sd card and upgrading the rom).
The problem is that when I get to the recovery mode, as soon as I try to mount the sd card or access it to install the .zip, it says :
"E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0p1)"
I browsed google a bit to see if there were any solutions but they either didn't work or I didn't understand them.
Any idea and advice to solve this problem ? I'm stuck =X
Thanks.
The fat partition is the first partition, yeah?

I don't seem to understand how it should work. Do I have to write the commandes in the command console, via windows+r and cmd ? Then it says that fastboot isn't a known command...
Or is it another soft to launch ?
Follow installation guide for adb / fastboot in my sig. Then follow bortak's guide. The commands have to be run in cmd (windows) or terminal (linux).

Can't get the fastboot commands to work, I'm S-ON and the software to unlock it doesn't detect my mobile phone =X
To use fastboot you have to be S-OFF.

Can you mount any other card? Or have you got just this one?
put your sd card in your computer.
click computer and when the sd card/removable drive appears
Right click > properties > tools > check now > fix errors.
Try that?

What version of Clockwork recovery are you using?
Also, SD card functionality has to work. For this, do 'fastboot oem enableqxdm 0' in fastboot mode.

After doing that, you would have to do the other steps, esp flashing the misc for your CID. Read TheProfessor's post fully. You've got to modify the .img with your CID..
That said, I've never encountered this issue on my own phone, so I've got only an academic understanding of the problem. It should work though.
but step 3 says
You can move both mtd0.img and flash_image by putting it on your sdcard, and issueing the following command in a terminal emulator:

Did you try that command? I'm assuming that adb can work with the card even though it's not mountable on Android..
Try the tutorial out and post error codes if any at each step..
Code:
cat: can't open '/sdcard/flash_image': No such file or directory

You did copy flash_image to sdcard before trying that out? Also, could you try that out in 'adb shell' after rebooting into recovery?
I copied both files on the sd card...
even tried it in Recovery...
But sd card is not mounted..so the file can't be opend

Hi!
Im not really a new to these things but really need your advise.
I rerooted my phone yesterday and everything went ok. Then S-OFF still ok.
Problem started when I made partion to my sdcard with Gparted. 1 gig partion to EXT4 and rest to FAT32. Tried to install Insertcoin and got infinite bootloop after few minutes of use. Went back to Gparted and saw that partion was not succesful. I repartioned it EXT3 and after that phone won't see my sdcard anymore.
Solutions? Thanks!
are you following correct order for partition??
1st fat 32
2nd ext 3/4
if you have windows then try partitioning with some software like easus partition manager..also order is very important
also see to it tht you are downloading the rom for stock hboot..the rom is available for stock hboot and cm7 hboot

1.) Install Android SDK
2.) Connect phone to pc when in "fastboot"-mode
3.) Go with cmd to the "tools"-folder of the sdk
3.) Enter 'fastboot oem enableqxdm 0' and then 'fastboot reboot'

Hi,
I have been googling an searching in this forum all seem to get is ooold posts...
My issue is partitioning my SD since the internal memory disappears like yesterday. From what I have found the proper way to do this is to connect the SD to external device ---> boot linux and do it in gparted (Ubuntu 11.04 liveCD).
Yeah, that work like a charm... NOT... well actually it partitions the fat32 and ext4 partition... not problem but when I try to mount the ext4 partitions it doesnt work! I presume it suppose to work...
The other thing I tried was to partition with clockwork recovery, that to worked fine but no partition.
- Hope I understand this correct but if one would partition in clockwork recovery I would be able to see this partition in gparted when done, right?
- And when I start to partition the SD I should have one fat32 partition consumes the whole SD or should I leave the size of ext4 unpartitioned?
Can someone pretty please guide me thrue this please... and before you say it Yes I have found previous guides about this but not work for me...
What is the latest Clockwork recovery and Amon RA recovery?
- Which one work best with partitioning?
Oh, I should perhaps mentions what phone and ROM....
Phone: HTC Desire
SD: Sandisk 32GB class 6
ROM: GingerBurst (seems good) or if somebody have any other suggestion... like sence and weather widget....

Check out the recovery in my signature.
Hi,
I also had loads of probelms with this...
If you want to partition you SD card via recovery i strongly recommend AmonRA.
If partitioning via gparted didn't work for your sdcard (which is odd...) i recommend using a simple Windows app called MiniTool Partititoning Wizard (it's free)...so just dl that app, enable usb debbuging on your Desire, plug in the phone, run the app, and follow this simple video tut> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aCV7Eu1pjWQ

Wow... I did.... flashed that recovery...at the moment I am flashing ROM.
Will let u know if it works, noticed that the recovery always say that my sd-ext partition is unformated everytime when I start it... thats odd.
I will let u know if it works.
BIG thank you this far!
Oh, I must forgotten to post what happened...
I was not able to flash new Rom with my 32gb SD but when I tried my 4gb SD card it worked fine. I would guess that there is something wrong with my SD card. I shall buy a new one and se what happens...

Before doing that make sure that both your partitions are primary and you have unchecked the "Take ownership of filesystem" option in Disk Utility from Ubuntu.

Thats something new... I didn't see anything about that in the guides. Can that option give me my issues if enabled?
Which if the two default partitioning tools are you referring to in Ubuntu?

SOLVED :
For Guys who have issues with SD Cards (Formatting,Mounting,Errors,Corruption or even Death of Card) :A full format (uncheck quick format) running HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool is recommended.
Moreover, never ever use SD card Adapters for formatting. Always use USB card readers as they are more efficient.Generic operating system formatters don’t provide the optimum performance. And,sometimes, can result into SD card death and less picture-saving space.Full format once in awhile is recommended to prevent possible corrupt files, lengthen the life of the card and achieve the most available space possible.
This tool is compatible with Windows XP and vista however Windows 7 users can run this tool in Compatibility mode for Windows 7 by going through :
Properties>Compatibility>Compatibility mode>Check(Run this program in compatibility mode for)>Select Windows 7 from dropdown menu>Apply>OK

I have no clue why and I can't find anything about it on any thread.
My card is 8GB(class 6).
Reformatting didn't work.(Formatted using Windows and MiniTool Partition Wizard)
Deletion of the partition and Reformatting didn't work either.
Different SDcard (2GB) gives the same Error.
I have flashed diff Recoveries via FASTBOOT.
Recoveries I have tried :
v2.5.0.1
v4.0.1.4
Any clue ?Thanks

I've also had almost the same issue while back.I kept getting E:Can't mount /sdcard error.
I formatted my sd card using HP usb disk storage format tool and it worked.I had a 512mb ext partition on 8gb class 4 sd card.
It didnt work for first few times but when I did a full format(unchecked quick format) it started working again.

I want to flash CM 7.2(Stable).I don't think the ROM is corrupted.
I Re-rooted my device after reverting back to stock and S-ON.I don't have any custom mtds or ext partition. It's a clean install.Actually, yesterday it was flashed successfully but I wiped everything again to sort out some issues with manual partititon of SDcard.
After connecting my device via adb shell and executing
parted /dev/block/mmcblk0

it was displaying
parted /dev/block/mmcblk0

Initially i thought it was a recovery issue or something like that but even after flashing diff recoveries it was giving the same error.I wiped the ROM and now i want to flash it again to check if it works.
No idea!
Wow!Formatting the SD Card using that tool fixed the issue.
Thanks Man!

Yes, there is a solution. You can add partition to your sd-card and format it as ext4. This you can do via computer (unix program GParted, it's also as a bootable CD, so you don't need to install linux) or via recovery (but NOT clockworkmod recovery, it does it wrong way). Recomended size of this partition is 1 GB. Your rom is probably contains a2sd script, so then you only open Terminal emulator and type "su" and then "a2sd install". You should choice "Y, N, Y", but it's on you. Here you are .
