They're running ads during the world series. Not cheap! It was just the "Really?" ad that has been shown before. Good to see them committing to the platform.
IIRC, $1 billion worth of advertising in fact, split between Kinect and WP7
Yup.
$500 million (aprox) is going to be spent on advertising WP7.
$500 mil, means ads everywhere. WP7 will sale regardless of anybody's opinion with $500 mil of marketing. All they have to do is keep it in everyone's face.

Sad but true. Well not sad for WP7 but it's sad that people will buy pretty much anything if it's advertised (well) enough.

Sad for power users like us..
I want some form of USB mass storage and a file explorer. Give me those two things and I'll be a happy camper. All the other issues people are complaining about, I wouldn't miss.
I love those ads!
My wife think they're hilarious as well, cos she thinks I'm like that with my phone.
The advertising does seem to be quite good. I have seen a few ads on YouTube
Ads usually bring in more users, Android wouldn't even be acknowledged as a platform if it weren't for the millions Motorola spent on advertising.

They are probably not targeting people in the UK etc as much as people within the USA.
And thats the reason why they will fail here and rest of europe lol
lol we cant even access zune music store haha
And they want to make a profit without full service availability lol
Give it time...I would imagine they will ramp up the advertising all over the world when they release in the US in time for the holidays...
They are spending half a freaking billion dollars...that must buy some nice ads one would think?!
AT&T has a new ad for WP7 and i think its the best one so far. it finally shows off what the phone can do. What do you guys think of the ad.
here is the link

Best wp7 ad I have seen so far...I hope sprint can come up with something like this
It's amazing. This add attracts peoples attention for WP7.
For me, also the best ad i have seen. Here in Germany, the ads of WP7 are not very good (my opinion).
nice marketing ! the graphics pouring into the phones is sharp !
too bad you can't share any of those movies, pictures, or files with a friends phone.

I wouldn't promote any of the mpaa's trash by sharing it. home movies, youtube downloads, dirtbike vids, rips of vhs from 20 years ago... movies does not equal mpaa.

I remember coming from an Omnia 2 I thought I'd miss swype so very much. I do, but just know that the wp7 keyboard is utterly fantastic. I can't get over how quick it is. Very "smart".

I think you have answered your question. Does he even own a Windows Phone? You have to question someone's motivations, maturity, or mental development. Or all 3.
def. the best ad so far, finally they aren't playing those stupid ones about that idiot skydiving who has a dedicated hw camera button or that dumbass who keeps looking at his phone, looks like MS finally found a decent marketing strategy (or is this ATT's doing?)

This ad was cool... the other one was ok. I am currently on a break from my Focus waiting for the update and playing with Gingerbread on my Nexus One, but that makes me want to switch back now..
Here it is. . .

I leave it at that.
Device is the HD7*.
Very Nice!
Yey! Best news ever.
This is silly. Why would you run Android on HD7? Why not run WP7 on EVO 4G instead? It makes more sense (no pun intended) as the hardware can make Android less laggy and you get the faster processor you always wanted in a WP7 device.

Sad to see an HD7 running that crap. However, now that this has been done I am hopeful that maybe we will be able to run WM6.5.3 on the HD7! =D that would be bliss...

Why wouldn't you just use a HTC HD2?
Casey
Just another HD2... not interested...
BTW, I think it's a HD7 not S. There is T-Mobile sign on it.
It doesn't matter why you would run it, it just matters that you could, that could possibly open many doors of other mobile OS's . Does the HD7 have 1st gen Snapdragon HW or 2nd gen?
want... I do miss some the the android features.
I want it. WP7 is good, but to have both. Fricken sweet.

My point exactly. WM6.5.3 on HD7 might not be far...oh and HD7 has 1st gen Snapdragon.

Sad to read such opinionated crap. I tried wp7 but I personally prefer android. You will have to agree that any choice of OS is good though?
PS sent from my hd2 running android ;-)

2nd gen that is multicore but locked from the menufactorer, there is nothing we can do about it! :"(
This is good for all WP7 devices surely - giving people options to choose which OS they would like to run regardless of what brand they bought is a good thing. I bought my HD2 second off ebay, best decision ever. I would really like to try the WP7 software but I'm not keen of the windows live contact integration. Anyway if the video is to actually be believed then this is only good news for owners as long as the devs get the info and can make use of it, doubt it will take too long. :]
PS - does WP7 support .xml contact importing? (I know slightly off topic)

I got my HD2 a month ago off craigslist for $200 just to dual boot WP7 and Gingerbread and I don't even have T Mobile. Wifi only. Best phone purchase I ever made. I can do everything I need(calls using Fring and texts using Google Voice) There is like no logical reason to get a new HD7 to get something that was available 2 years ago. No offense intended. Refurbished HD2's from T Mobile cost $29 bucks with the upgrade eligibility. If you want wm 6.5.3, don't wait for something to happen by the next person's hands. Port it yourself because you are one in a million that want that.
thank you for this very interesting post.
it would be great to run android on a hd7.
to your signature:
I completely agree with you, the hd2 is a awesome device and it is still my number one ;-)
awesome i love it
To good to be true..!!!
But after having Android & WP7 on the HD2, I say anythin's possible..!!!

Running WM6.5.3 on the HD7 is THE biggest crap. First they made hd2 waste oh hardware then hd7 even worst.
T-Mobile really needs some powerful HTC phone running android WITH 4.3" screen.
I ve been waiting for somebody (DFT) to port MAGLDR and run android on it.
BUT since ENGADGET havent said a word about that i dont totally believe it. But they havent said its KIRF so lets hope its true.
Since you haven't been following up on anything, HTC has announced the HTC Sensation AKA the Pyramid, and it will be going ton T-Mobile soon. All 2nd gen HW, with a 4.3" screen that sports qHD resolution.
It seems that Nokia is putting microsofts money to good use as their marketing of the Lumia is amazing and EVERYWHERE. I live in the UK and everywhere I go I cant fail to see the Lumia presence! theres no way people have not heard of this phone by now. Its a huge marketing push and something, microsoft, or samsung or htc should be doing if they really want to sell windows phones... if this sort of marketing was givent to other wp7 devices, then WP7 would be doing so much better so well done to Nokia for showing the others how it should be done!
Absolutely agree, shame this level of marketing did not happen a year ago.
Have to agree
1 minute i see the Lumia advert, then the HTC radar advert and then followed by that stupid bloke dancing on kinect being filmed by a WP7
What that chap does with his baseball bat is amazing

I don't think the platform was ready for a real marketing push a year ago. It is definitely nice to see. The next year will be an exciting one.
Being in the UK too I agree that Nokia's marketing is indeed amazing. Hopefully this will translate into sales, we'll see in about 10 days.
Maybe Microsoft was just waiting for someone to do their job for them

I was about to say this and at last the way MS is handaling WP7 is starting to make real sense. Bring out a slow launch build up an app market and use the first round as a test. If they pushed to hard before the OS was ready ie last year. But having a year in the bag and now some real hardware we are ready for a proper push. I love wp7 and its now time for the rest of the world to see what i have been banging on about
@DroidFreek They said that in the US marketing is the carriers' job. Don't know if that's true but that thinking would never take them too far in Europe.
1. It's over!!!
2. Be Social
ENJOY!!!! They are pretty good.
The first one made me chuckle, we will see how nokia lives up to the hype

I get it, but...
Cute, I guess.
Seriously, though, they gotta do better than this! Doesn't say anything about the phone.
It'll be good to finally see them on TV as well as follow up commercials for my new hero phone.
I like the "death grip example" (mock scenario) they posted.
They need to show what the phone can do. Okay to poke a little fun between goliath companies, but consumers need to know what they are buying into. I bought one of the first "Windows Phone" back in 2010, and liked that it was different and I could swap batteries. Seems I can't with this model. I'll hold onto my Lumia 710 for a bit before jumping up to the 900.It has same features, just not the big screen.

Getting better. I'm ok if some of the commercials just give a sneak peak and some give a few more details like this one.
I think its actually pretty smart. A commercials job is to get people to think, ask and talk about a product. If it gets people in to a store to ask how it is different or to get more info etc... then it did its job.
In the US we LOVE to root for the underdog. eg.. "Firefox, take back the web.... "
We had a local restaurant thats gone statewide after their "Save the bird eat a xxxx" add campaign.
The only thing they could have done better in those commercials would have been to hook in to an underdog theme.
