What to do now? - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, hoping you can help me. Still kinda new to Android well the Xperias anyway. I rooted my cousins phone for him using this method here. After I rooted I got the error with the Sim card which I've heard is quite common. I then followed this guide to get the sim working again, this sim is working fine now but I'm stuck on 2.3.2 now and when I try flashing 2.3.4 I get errors in flash tool. Any idea how to fix this? should I just re-lock the bootloader and then try updating OTA?

Try formatting the partitions with fastboot first. It's what i did when i got a flashtool error and it worked. Be warned though if you format device and flashtool still gives error's you will need to find a system.img and kernel before device will boot again.

[Q] Unlocking bootloader Xperia Play question

I bought a few weeks ago an Xperia Play locked on the 3 Network of UK. I removed the sim locked through one of the many sites that offer this service (htccode to be exact) and debranded it through wotanserver.com.
The problem I have is that I tried unlocking the bootlader of the device to no avail since I just can't enter fastboot mode no matter how many times I try (the blue light just doesn't light up). I've read quite a few other posts on this forum and a few other sites but I just can't find a clear answer as to why this is happening. I mean I unlocked the sim lock, I changed the firmware with a "clean one" and still it refuses to enter fastboot mode.
I tried rooting my phone through Gingerbreak or Superoneclick but they didn't work either. Is there any method (preferably an easy one) to root my phone? It's on Android 2.3.3.
Just a quick update to inform you that after a little more tinkering I managed to root my phone, and I might as well share with you how I did it.
Basically again using the wotanclient I returned my FW to 2.3.2 and tried Gingerbreak again. This time it worked like a charm! I also discovered that in 2.3.2 the 3g that didn't work on 2.3.3 now works like a charm so I might stuck with this FW for a while longer (maybe I will try 2.3.4 at some point as well).
Your bootloader is locked by your provider and it won't help unlocking the sim nor debrand it with flashing another FW. That's why it didn't help doing the stuff you did.
Look at this thread for unlocking the bootloader and accessing fastboot (it'll cost some money though, not much afaik):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1232050
Further more gingerbreak/superoneclick etc. only works on gingerbread 2.3.2 as the loophole got patched in the higher builds. So if you want to retain root when updating do it by OTA or if you get fastboot going you can do it via CWM (clockworkmod) with a flashable .zip.

or you can flash doomkernel (which has many advantages, but again, need to enable fastboot mode on your phone, to then unlock bootloader before you can flash the kernel)
i highly recomend using alejandrissimo's service. i did, and i've never looked back

Yes there is mate. I take you have a R800i.
Go to the dev section and find a FTF file of FW build 2.3.2. Then grab flashtool 0.2.9.1 beta. Flash the FTF file and there you go. Downgraded and ready to root.
There's an easier way to root now, i take that's why you want to downgrade, just use the zergRush to do it. That works on any FW build. Check out the dev section for a thread about 'rooting with zergRush'.
Regards Dousan...
I forgot about the zergRush post cuz I bookmarked it but didn't read it that well. Are their bugs for doing it on the higher fw tho?

[Q] Phone is bricked beyond recovery, even though bootloader/fastboot is accessible

[delete me]
Got a similar problem where I can't even access fastboot.
Looks like there are soft bricks that totally mess up your phone.
Flashed stock via Odin but I'm still in a bootloop :good:
Unbelievable. I even read posts by people with similar problems who are on stock ROM and have neither unlocked the bootloader, nor rooted the device. That makes me assume the fault is not really at my end, is it?!
Mine received an OTA update to Jelly Bean, crashed and the bootloop occurred.
Wasn't rooted or anything. Very weird
It may help to try re-locking the bootloader. I had a similar issue which and was able to get the phone to become responsive again after re-locking the bootloader and then re-flashing a factory image.

What did you do then? Returned it and got a replacement phone?

Isn't it impossible to flash anything with the bootloader being locked?
I tried flashing a factory image with unlocked bootloader and then locking it after that...

I'm still trying to fix the problem by playing around with Odin but I'm running out of ideas.

Flash kernel problem

Hi,
today I try to flash KTG kernel on my girlfriend Arc S with ICS stock Sony rom.
I have rooted it with tool (Eroot_V1.3.4) and says rooted.
Even Flashtool says "Root access allowed" but when I try to flash KTG kernel from Flashtool on Fastboot mode, obtain an error (See attachment).
This Arc S is with Unlocked Bootloader, and works perfectly.
I want to flash KTG to install a custom ICS ROM (Zohaib one).
With my old Arc S I do it without problem...this problem never happened to me. Now I don't know how flash kernel.
I try to re-root device with Flashtool option (My LT18i-->Root) but even that options, after launched., says ROOTED, busybox installed and I see SuperUser on apps in the device.
Someone can help me? Read Flashtool video logs....what's happened?
How can I flash KTG with this problem? It's related with ?
you probably fixed that by now, and I am no expert, but I just solved a lot of my problems by using a real old flashtool v 6. something.
It had no problems acknowledging bootlader status- unlocked which I had convinced myself was relocked. It rooted no probs first try with the padlock and fastboot installed .img which I just couldnt get to happen with other versions.
I also could not uninstall system apps no matter which rom/kernel i tried, I had SU in the apps but it was if wasnt really rooted.
I am finding a lot of dead links, figures because this phone so old now, and the forums are just too big to navigate. I am now trying Rush with UHD 5.0 since today, but it is chewing through the battery, any advice?
Any old files you could send me?

I have fixed the problem selling that Arc S.. Now I'm on my Z1C only.
But thanks very much for your answer and attention...these problems are known about root.
For root ICS Arc S, use EasyRootToolKit from this forum...for me works (disable antivirus first)
As ROM, I use for years Xperia T ROM from Zohaib, that goes well and mantain stock features of Arc S.
Or, if you want to try something different, you can try "Superjellybean ROM" that goes well on my Arc S...flash SuperFusion Kernel and try the lightness of Jelly Bean 4.1.2
Have a nice day!

R800x Recognized in Flashtool as an R800i

Hello all, I don't know if these forums are still very active, but I'm in a pickle. I accidentally flashed an international version of a rom for my r800x and now in flashtool it is recognized as an r800i and is somewhat soft bricked/bootlooped.
I managed to get it working, but with all the frantic flashing ive been doing, I can't remember exactly which rom/kernel combination worked. I can still get into flashmode/fast boot, but it hangs on the Sony Ericsson bootscreen. I unlocked the bootloader, but just relocked it in an attempt to revive it If you have any tips for me that'd be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I'm assuming that you have the Verizon R800x... If so, then you should be able to use Androxyde's Flashtool to flash the stock Verizon ftf to restore the phone back to stock. You can then root it with a couple different root methods (I prefer the Cydia Impactor Root method). You could also flash the Verizon stock 2.3.3 firmware back onto the phone and root with SuperOneClick/DooMLoRD's method.
Here's a link to the stock 2.3.4 firmware : https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=9390350787562963051
Here's where I got the stock 2.3.4 firmware from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=43935372&postcount=3
I'm not sure if you're using Sony's flashtool... If so, then I would recommend Androxyde's Flashtool from here: http://www.flashtool.net/index.php
If you're interested in rooting with the Cydia Impactor method, you can find info on it here:

Good luck.

HTC M9 (Canada) softbrick then baseband issues while trying to root

So I was trying to root my phone. I unlocked the bootloader from HTCdev and managed to install TWRP. I selected the read and write option though I think that may have been a mistake reading some of the posts on this forum.
Anyways the next step was flashing superuser unfortunately I flashed the latest version however apparently only till 2.64 works. This caused a bootloop. As I had no ideas, I wiped my phone and installed CM13. Now my phone boots up and runs perfectly and I can install other ROMs too but one critical error is that my phone doesn't recognize my sim card. It says baseband is unknown and IMEI number field is blank if I check using the dialer. My phone is S-ON.
This seems to be a common error around this forum but I can't find a solution which helps me.
Most people suggest flashing the stock rom but since my phone is S-ON I can only flash the Canadian videotron version which I can't find anywhere. I found nandroid twrp backup here in the following link but I don't know what to do with it. I put it on my phone but obviously I can't flash it nor does TWRP automatically find it to restore it. Do I have to flash it from my computer somehow like ODIN is used for Samsung(?) phones ?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
