[Q] 720p encoding

Has anybody yet hacked the DEFY to expose this supported capability ?
Sorry but allegedly, it is not supported.
Hardware limitations.
Wouldent it be limited just by the CPU support? If its the 3630, then it would support 720p
focus.ti. com/general/docs/wtbu/wtbuproductcontent.tsp?templateId=6123&navigationId=12836&contentId=52606
delete the space between ti. and com for the url to work. Cause im new I cant post URLs :\
Isn't 100% sure... can be a 3630 or 3610 ( with GPU )
In my opinion, motorola created a massive production 3630 is cheaper than make 1m 3610 ( with gpu ) and 1m more 3630...
And declarated as an 3610 processor to sell more Droid2/X.
It's a simply market strategy.
If a developer knows if defy have a 3630 processor and can record 720P ( if no camera limitations ), can be good as droid2/x and of course the price as much better.
the defy processor overclocks the same a DROID 2/X with the same Vsel, and the Scores are the same too...
Please gutting the phone once to clarify this...
PD: excuse my ****ing bad english.
Looking at some public motorola source code, it does support 720p. It just seems to be commented all over the place.
Also early DEFY testers got roms with 720p support ...

I think defy with 720P will be great! the defy camera quality it's amazing on android 2.1, and with froyo i supose will be AHhh!!!!!
Doesn't seem to be a huge amount of support for the phone in this forum. Not the worst mind you. Amazing phone I wish more hackers and chefs would give it a try.
Not sure about the defy camera. It's nowhere near as good as XT701 camera. Meant to be 5mp but average quality as soon as light drops.
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App

That can be the driver, or Eclair version? THe defy's camera it's better than a loot of phones, incluiding, htc hd2, nexus one, desire, wave...etc
Maybe in low light conditions, it's bad, and with Android 2.1... i supose need an improvement
Defy's camera is bad, very bad. Nokia N95 and N97 are the two better mobile cameras I have seen. Omnia cam (my last phone) is too better than Defy's one. Luckily I don't use the mobile to take photos... because I bought a reflex looking for quality.

I do own a DSLR (Pentax K20 with an awesome 50-135mm lens). I do own a Camcorder (Samsung HMX-H204). I do own (well my wife and kiddos) various types of P&S cameras. I am a picture/image/video quality freak (by profession).
However if I want to take a quick snap while I'm out there an Skiing, then NOTHING beats the DEFY's camera. It's conveniant (as you have it with you to listen to music anyway). You take a quick clip, or snap a few pictures, and send it over to facebook right away from the slopes, so that the suckers at home can see it right away. Yes, I can get better shots with my DSLR, but that is carrying 2kg extra with me, and yes, I can get better video with the Camcorder, but that is not IP67 rated.
So conveniance wins. The only 2 nagging points for me are that the DEFY could do 720p, but it's not enabled, and that there is no way to set the JPEG quality in the camera app.
Yes, all true, but comparing defy's cam with other phones... no win xD

No' that's not 100% true, if can improve the camera compression, the quality will be 10 times better.
If i compare Samsung wave camera VS Defy = Defy Wins in good light conditions.
But compared with the three other phones I had, Defy loose.

You might want to try out "Camera 360" then, which allows you to adjust the compression. However for some reason it sucks up a huge amount of power.

If you are taking picture in whiteout conditions while snowing, the DEFY wins. If you are out there and biking and it's raining cats and dogs, the DEFY wins.

Before I forget. 640x480 on the DEFY can get up to 3 mbit/sec (2.5 as I've seen in streams). The source implies that 1280x720 would be limited to 3 mbit/sec as well. That would probably impact the 720p quality substatially (or the frame-rate, as the "Droid X" only does 720p with 24 fps. So not sure whether it's desireable to have 720p ...
When it's raining, I don't go bike... Have you tried N95 or N97 camera?

[Q] epic camera app questions

im on att and just picked up the infuse. it is a very nice phone if maybe too little too late but my captivate and the i9000 have a better camera app. though the infuse has a bright led flash i felt that the captivate night mode took better dark pictures because the flash leaves a very unbalanced exposure level and funky color balance. i was wondering if the epic has a fully featured camera like the i9000 with night, backlit, fireworks, and other modes? i would use the i9000 camera but dont want to lose support for the flash. i dont mind losing 8mp mode, though im not sure i want to lose 1.3 mp mode on the ffc. the ideal situation would be a galaxys2 camera app but i dont know how to mod the apk to install on 2.2.1.
would installing the camera app from the epic give me the modes i am looking for? and has anyone ported the sgs2 camera over to 2.2.1? i know it runs on the sgs w/ 2.3.3 so im sure it's not impossible.
I'm pretty sure some of the phones have different sensors. The Captivate, i9000 and epic probably have the same back facing cameras. The i9000 and epic probably have the same FFC's. I'm pretty sure the infuse and Galaxy S2 have newer sensors that support 1.3mp on the FFC and 8mp on the back camera. I don't think it is a software patchable feature.
As far as the modes go, where should I look in the camera app?
edit: on Syndicate Rom 1.1.0 Froyo EC05 I have these modes "Single shot, smile shot, panorama, beauty, continuous, vintage, add me, action shot, cartoon"
It looks like I don't have your modes. Someone with gingerbread might have them though. I don't use gingerbread because it is horrible on battery life with the leak. Custom builds might be better but I'm satisfied with the froyo rom I use now.

i guess that answers my question. the i9000 and captivate had some great features and they eventually made there way into the vibrant but so many users feel like a flash is better than a camera that works in low light. i want both, the flash for when it is too dark to work without one but night mode for great pictures in dim light, for some reason samsung makes you choose. atleast it shoots better in the dark than an htc.

[Q] Galaxy S5 Camera on non-touchwiz rom?

This probably won't work but I was wondering if you could get the Galaxy S5 camera on the Galaxy S4 on the official CyanogenMod 11 KitKat.
The reason why I ask is because I love almost everything about Cyanogenmod but my camera on the S4 cannot focus close shots and always end up being blurry. I don't even care for the S5 features but that the camera has a very good focus. Even if not the app, is there another app I can try that works or even to just get the focusing like the S5?
My phone was bought new and I never dropped it yet it cannot focus close shots. Is this a defect? Should I replace my camera with a new piece? Thanks.

G4 / Focus is slow

Hi all,
I just received my G4 (H815), and I think the focus is slow. With a laser focus, I thought it will be really fast, but no...
Maybe I must use an other app ? But I don't found the google app to take pics...
However, my previous phone was a Oneplus X, the focus (phase detection) and pics recording was really really instantaneous, even in dark conditions...Maybe a laser focus is less good than a phase detection focus ?
By advance, thanks you.
Fred

[APP][CAMERA-MOD] Google HDR Camera [SM-G930F]

This thread is supposed to gather all the information regarding the state of the Google HDR camera ports for the Exynos version of the S7 and aid the further development.
If you don't know what this is all about please read: https://www.xda-developers.com/google-camera-hdr-ported/
Only believed to be working on Snapdragon cpus due to the use of the integrated Hexagon image processor later version indeed worked on the Exynos.
As of this year the kickass Portrait mode of the Pixel 2 was added to the mod
Portrait mode on both cameras is now working on S7 Exynos.
The stability of the camera mod currently is not very high and the resulting HDR pictures exceed the stock camera quality only in some special cases like more natural colors in high contrast scenes or higher perceived sharpness due to less denoising. Portrait mode on the other hand is almost always better than the Samsungs "selective focus".
All in all Samsung did a very good job in optimizing the camera as Sony even built the IMX260 camera sensor just for the S7. Please be aware that not all S7 share the same sensor! Some come with the ISOCELL S5K2L1 instead of the SONY IMX260. You can read about the pros and cons of each sensor here: https://www.androidauthority.com/galaxy-s7-isocell-vs-sony-sensor-camera-680266/
Almost all Google camera mods in one place: https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/
Attention: None of the mods is 100% stable, it may crash or even memory leak and thus force you to reboot your phone as it gets laggy and unresponsive
When posting please always state your ROM, kernel and camera sensor (use AIDA64 from the Play store and check under the "devices" section)
I'll try to keep this thread updated as reference as the other thread is polluted with cross talk about other devices and people not even reading the latest pages of the thread…
Miniuser123, the creator of the portrait mode for Exynos, created another thread...
